Hello
i'v noticed that in some reviews the one x took photos that weight over 5mb mine for some reason takes less then 2.8mb
also panorams takes about 1mb top..
is that normal?
stock One X 1.29.720.11
Silly question really, depends on what your taking a pic off, if I take a pic of my daughter playing inside I'm looking at like 2.5mb but of I take a pic of my family outside with clouds and hills behind them with loads of different colours and shades it will be like 6.5mb

If you are rooted, which I assume you are since you're on XDA, you can install the HQ Camera Mod and get hugely improved photos from the stock app. I'm talking an average of 6-8MB pics with much less noise.

Not anymore reverted back to stock for warranty issues.
Now on stock 4.0.3.
Then an app like Camera360 would do you good
bummer..the stock camera is so good but the image quality is like 90% ..

I think more like 70%. Compression really takes its toll for speed.
you also having this problem?
im curious about the 4.0.4 stock update will it fix the camera Compression ?

I hear it does improve it a little, but apparently the leaked Sense 4.5 Camera is even better still, with much less noise and less compression. I've installed the mod, but haven't had the chance to take any photos yet to compare.

When I was running 2.1 I would get 3 to 4know picture file size. Now I have the official its .6 with stock kernel and I only get 1 to 2know photo file size on 8megapixel and high quality. Does this mean I'm still stuck on 3megapixels like what would happen if I used the netarchy 3.7.6c kernel. Please give me somebfeed back

I also just noticed this after reading your post. I don't know if its a leaked firmware problem or a root problem (i used unrevoked 3). The few pictures I took when I first got the evo had a file size of at least 2MB. In comparison my 5mp iphone had file sizes of 2MB plus. I didn't take any pics after using unrevoked as all I wanted was the wireless tether option. I updated to the leaked 2.2 now I only get file sizes of 1MB or less when I take pics at the 8mp level.

File size is determined by compression.
If the resolution is the same as before, don't worry about it.
Thanks brian. Just took another pic outdoors and it gave me a 1.98mb size. Had a buddy with an evo tata never been rooted or updated to Froyo take the same shot and his was 1.87. Made me feel better knowing there wasn't an issue with the cam.

Is it me or is the auto brightness on the screen quite poor compared to stock? With stock, I remember I could see the screen change all the time.
Also, the notification color LED looks....off. Blue is much lighter, red looks different. But blue isn't nearly at blue nor as bright.
Also the network status thing seems to change a lot...I can go from LTE to H+ to H to 3G all in the same spot within 10 minutes. While in stock it was always on 4g or LTE anywhere I went.
The notification for voicemail is un-deletable for some reason....
The call quality on CM10 is quite poor compared to touchwiz, It isn't bad, but it isn't nearly as good. It seems CM10 lacks the last settings for this kind of stuff. I am not sure if anyone else thinks so. If not, how can I fix this?
Last thing, Is there a good alternative to the Touchwiz camera? I'd love to have HDR, all the filters, and modes back from the Touchwiz camera. I believe HDR is coming in 4.2. There are a lot of camera apps, but very few have HDR AND other features. They have one or the other. Isn't 4.2 bringing HDR?
Thanks guys. So far I am loving CM10. Everything runs far smoother and looks prettier. Best of all, I'll probably have 4.2 by the time the OTA updates comes out for AT&T.
Can't answer all your questions but with regards to the camera app every one I've tried is garbage. You're better off forgetting that your phone can take pictures until 4.2 comes out.
Edit: actually every one isn't garbage, but like you said they're all missing 1 feature or another or they're unintuitive or slow.
Pro capture is decent but lacks HDR and the panorama mode is a pain to use (not as bad as stock android but it doesn't make sense the way it works). Give that one a shot.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
The reason your service is changing frequeantly isn't actually a problem or anything wrong. With CM10 it is reporting the actual signal your phone is getting. With touchwiz it's reporting what you could be connected to. Basically on your stock TW the actual signal will change from LTE to H+ and 3G to save your battery from constantly staying on the LTE connection. Your service doesn't indicate this change because that would annoy most users. On CM10 this change is reported. It's actually the same behavior of your internal radio but you are just seeing it fluctuate more as it is doing it's job to save your battery.
Glad you asked about the camera though. It's the only thing holding me back from flashing because I like to take lots of pictures and the quality just isn't there.
Anyone have some help on the other questions

So turns out that this app does in fact have HDR but it's called 'reduced noise'. So that's taken care of. The only other annoying thing is the constant popups telling you to buy the full version, but I think it's on sale for 99 cents now. Or at least it was yesterday

Interesting. How did you figure out that "reduced noise" is the same as HDR? Does it actually merge two exposures? If not, it may help scenes that would otherwise be over/underexposed, but it's not really HDR...

That is what HDR does. It over exposes and under exposed the picture at different ISO settings. It would take one picture at 200 ISO and the other at 800 ISO. This allows you take a picture where it is light where is is normally dark and dark where it is normally light. This prevents a picture from being too dark in some parts and washed out it others.

If true, that's very cool!
I've just been on a night out. Taken some pics , some good, some bad, I expect that. However!...... The god damn shutter speed is shocking, and when I say shocking I mean awful. I'd like to be able to point and shoot. Its simply not happening. Tried snap camera premium, HTC stock, Google camera, lenovo, it is down to the hardware, what the hell are they doing with this thing?
Taking a pic of people dancing is impossible, something I've never had a problem with before, even in the same venue with the same people doing the same crap dances, its woeful to be honest.
Does anyone know how to speed it up or avoid blur?

A night out like that for me means drinking, low light, and dancing means moving action. Not even my wife's Note 4 takes that good of pics in those scenarios. It has already been posted numerous times to use manual settings. Why would you ask how to control shutter speed when you are using auto? Do a little reading.

First of all I didn't say I was using auto. I said I was pointing and shooting.
Take a look at these pics. Decent light and believe me, the s5 took them perfectly.
Utterly stupid shutter speed. Unless HTC make a better camera next time.
The light was good don't assume things, secondly I only had three drinks.
Also I was not dancing, i tried manual and auto. Raw etc, all the same. Crap camera. Thought it wasn't but it doesn't compete with its competition. Poor
This is front and back cameras too, both awful.
If like to be able to control shutter speed, auto or manual
Those do look really bad, but they are nowhere near the pics I take and see others post. Those aren't even action shots. I know you have had your M9 for a bit because I have seen you posting. Has it always taken pics that bad or did you update and it borked it?

Nothings messed up, if i'm in a normal environment, good lighting etc, pics are superb, just when the light fades a bit the pics come out a bit pants.
I'm fully aware of the quote i've written before, however this is not about clarity it's about the shutter speed and the camera blurring shots, granted some people were moving however people were blurring from the slightest of movements, this is down to shutter speed.
I'll look into it myself today.
Thanks for your input all.

I haven't tested a lot of video, but I thought I read the video would be 60 fps at 1080p and 30 at 4k.
For me the biggest drawback so far has been the screen quality. The resolution is nice, but it has this weird shine effect that is bugging me. You can only see it when it's text on white, and it is more pronounced when you tilt slightly, but it is also there when you're looking straight on.
Didn't see it at first but now I can't look without seeing it and it's killing me.

Hmm I'm also experiencing alot of stutter in apps and even in settings (did several wipes, always the same). It's not that bad but it is definitely not 100% smooth. But nobody mentions it in the forums. You're the first one.
I'm comparing it to my M8, which is nexus-like smooth, with almost no stutter at all. The only app where 10 is smoother is chrome.
I think we have to wait till custom kernels pop up. I was hoping the stock experience would be 100% smooth like the nexus phones.

According to reviewers Galaxy S6 and S7 are also stutter-free. Main reason I returned my S7 is because it was so laggy. But I guess most people really don't care. Doing a little search on google I only see people who used a nexus phone complaining about stutters on devices like S6, S7, etc.
Btw I did a little test here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66729920&postcount=226
Odd: my S7 Edge is very fast and barely has any stutter etc which has surprised me. I was expecting the opposite go figure.

This is my result. In settings and youtube, the stutter is less often than yours (it happens), however Play Store is a lagging hell(sometimes worse than the screenshot below).
Not sure if it's a hardware fault or what.
As far as I know htc got their own cpu scheduling implementation, maybe that's the problem.

Considering I couldn't find any reason that this phone will perform worse than the competition, with same SoC and same DDR4 memory, the only logical explanation is that htc have a stricter frequency control (persumbly GPU) for a better battery life.

With GCam it's better, but not so good even as Nexus 5. The camera is the weakest part of this smartphone. Forget about low light shots, daylight shots are ok, no more. For this phone, Lenovo uses bad budget lenses, that ruins all.

First and second. For this price you can find a phone with better camera, but not better performance.
I upgraded from a LG G2 to this phone, and it's been a good time so far. The nexus 5 was released the same year and manufactured by LG as well, so I hope many thing would translate across, including
- A better camera. Not a very good or outstanding one comparing to the standard, it lacks OIS and the numbers are not great nor the software, but it's usable in most cases, and certainl better than what I had to deal with when running aosp roms on the G2
- Miles ahead in terms of performance. No questioning it, once I was trying so hard to get 2.8 or 2.9ghz overclock on my badly binned sd800 just so the geekbench score would touch 1100/3000 but not very successful, now I can breeze through almost any task with the most powersaving tweaks applied to the interactive governor. Although didnt help me much in terms of battery life (as I will demonstate in the next point), it's still very impressive nontherless
- Somewhat better batterylife (with potential to be more?? I dont know). I usually got 2-3 hours SoT max on the G2, and on the korean variant with 2600mah battery. Throw in some games and that got reduced to 90mins or so, which is painfully poor. Now, a lot of people with different usages had reported that they can get to 5-6 hours SoT easily, with 7-8 hours being the higher end and 8-9 hours max, but I never personally got anything over 4 hours max on a regular basis. Maybe that just me with my bunch of "Facebook" apps but it's disappointing to say the least. Still an upgrade though
In the end, it would come down to what other choices you can have and your own preference. Wonderful software can only save bad hardware as much, and this phone while having ridiculus hardware for the price, the price is so low that other parts become mediocre as well.
