You'll need to update to ICS so that you can unlock your boot loader and flash CWM.

First, download the file here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1611696 and place it on your external SD card. After this, boot into recovery and it will update. Make sure the file is named "update.zip" ("update" being the name, and "zip" being the file extension).

When you have that installed, then do as follows:
- Root your device
- Unlock the bootloader
- Flash a custom recovery - Either CWM or TWRP (it's just user preference)
See here for a more detailed approach: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1711125.

or is best to upgrade to CyanogenMod ?
Thanks a lot Folk's

Yeah, you are better off rooting, installing CWM, then flashing a ROM from there. Even if you want to use LG's official ICS, you may as well use the flashable version by HO!NO! instead of the official release, since you will retain CWM and root that way.
Ok I will install CM10 Trough CWM, so before install CWM it's not require to root the phone ?

As long as you are still on stock Gingerbread that is fine. If you update to official ICS you must go through the unbricking guide (to the best of my knowledge at least).

if your bootloader is unlocked and you already flashed recovery you just need to flash root.zip to root your phone.
root is a permission containing superuser app and su binary.
main task is unlock bootloader which gives you access to flash recovery.
you can find root.zip in mentioned thread, see attachments (just download it and flash it with recovery and your phone is rooted)

Hey, guys!
Here is the CWM 6.0.4.4 recovery for our LG Optimus G pro (e98x), both .img and .lok, maybe the fxxx need .img

If I installed cwm it gives me a boot loop into recovery. So I must install my rom via kdz tool and so I have no recovery yet. I found no way to flash a working recovery and unlock bootloader for my phone.

Not wanting to hijack the OP, but I'm trying to install update version 3.28.401.6 on an unlocked UK M8 and I'm in the exact same boat. I heard that the stock recovery for the M8 is different for different providers, so not sure now feasible it is to restore stock recovery to receive the OTA, then go back to TWRP. Is there a way to manually install the update using TWRP?

So you title the thread with your own solution as well. "Cannot install update due to recovery change..." How do I install this update? "
Obviously it would mean you have to have stock recovery, not twrp.
Flash a stock recovery, reboot, install OTA update. Custom recovery can then be reflashed after the update

If flashing stock recovery is too much of a hassle perhaps you shouldn't have started flashing in the first place, yes?
You won't be able to do OTA over TWRP, even the TWRP developers said as much.
Official Updates and TWRP
Excerpt: Installing official updates from your manufacturer or carrier is not supported by TWRP.
Period.
As for the stock recovery you need. Just copy the OTA.zip file to your PC and extract the recovery.img file within the firmware.zip file.

Yes, the main reason I unlocked my bootloader ..... was just for HK mod but then only I realized that my phone is S-ON and S-OFF is only possible using sunshine.
Ok now I have the recovery.img file for my phone.
What should I do with it ?
Using hassoon2000's toolkit select 'your own recovery' and flash that's it ?
And one more question my CIDnum is t-mob009
Does that mean my mobile is tmobile based ?
In my place we have only two carriers and we don't have tmobile, sprint or verizon here.
EDIT : @mroshaw I hope you got your answer from the post #6
EDIT 2 : @BerndM14 just flashed the stock recovery and updated my phone and happy with it
