Can I unlock the Froyo bootloader and root?

Hi Guys, After research I found conflicting answers, so created the thread.
My friend received a used Nexus1 with Froyo already installed. Can He unlock the bootloader and root the phone? When He turns on the phone, their is no ''unlock'' symbol at the bottom. Why Google has not patched the bootloader and rooting procedure in the Froyo firmware? like Apple, everytime their is new firmware update, the jailbreak is lost and the device becomes secure.
Thanks in advance.

Here's an idea! Why don't you post this question in the Nexus One forums, since this question has nothing to do with the Desire??
Regards,
Dave
Shoot, this is desire forum, I did not realize it. Sorry. Mods, delete this thread and can some1 please answer? so I don't have to create another thread in Nexus's forum.
The reason is that Google actually tell you how to unlock the bootloader. They don't need to patch it. They only give you a warning that doing so invalidates your software warranty.
Unlike Apple, Google don't mind giving you full control over your phone.

[Q] Rooting 4.0.2.A.0.62, already have an unlocked bootloader. Help?

So folks.
Just reached home with my new phone, an Xperia Arc S LT18a, I believe.
I'm stuck with this firmware 4.0.2.A.0.62 which doesn't seem to have an easy way to get a custom ROM on it yet. Sucks that I didn't read about this before heading out to buy a phone.
I went through one of the guides here and had the bootloader unlocked via Sony's website. However, the rooting instructions didn't work. So searched further and realised the issue.
I've seen people say that they've done it by downgrading to a lower firmware, rooting it and then upgrading the firmware OTA again. Then I read that upgrading firmware OTA with an unlocked bootloader will brick my phone. So I'm not trying that.
Any help on how I could go about this? Simple step by step instructions would be very welcomed, since I don't really know much about flashing various bootloaders and ROMs considering I just bought the phone.
Thanks for reading!
there are many threads relating to this problem....plz read & search before posting....
Well i believe the answer to your questions lie in this Thread ...

Flash the zip I attached to this post through CWM. That's it, you're rooted
Thanks!
I used the above zip file, but from a different thread and got it working. Cheers to both of you!

How can I have CWM on my phone? If I will flash phone I will do it with rooted ROM not stock. For me it's closed circle because I need root'ed device to load CWM on it, and I need CWM to make root.
Can someone explain me it?

With unlocked bootloader, one can easily flash a custom kernel with CWM, then flash the zip file.

Booter Locked, 4.1.4, What are my options?

im sorry for any double threading. im just so lost on this Experia Ion and was hoping someone can point me in the right direction from where i stand with it.
1. Its locked. is there a way to unlock it even though it says Bootloader Unlocked: NO ?
2. what can i do to get any custom rom on it while the bootloader is locked or is that even possible?
3. if that isnt possible, is there a way to get a better firmware version than 4.0.4?
yes i have flashtool working with drivers i already reloaded 4.0.4 stock on it.
main reason im even wondering about any of this, is because when i make calls the MIC on it is muffled horribly. ive read the forums about the Mic rubber Gasket piece so thats my next step. but im wanting to try a newer firmware (hopefully custom) before taking the phone apart . as stated im sorry for double thread posting if there was an answer already, ive been searching for days on the threads and ahvent found much on my questions, but i did attempt my best to answer them myself before ending up here.
There is no way to unlock the bootloader if it is set to unlock = no as far as i am aware.
My only suggestion is to use a custom rom that is based on Stock and works for locked bootloaders. Any of the ROMs in the development section that are marked as LB in the title (for your phone) will work. Full instructions are there. You will need to root and install recovery to install.
Futher info on rooting is here if you haven't already done it.
thank you so much, im so used to samsungs yknow? methods are definitely different with the xperias. thanks for the direction point. i just rooted and setting up recovery i hope this thread helps others who are lost as well

r800a bootloader unlock

Ok so I read the FAQ and understand that the r800a uses a paid for unlock of the bootloader. Seems like bs but its whatever.
You cant seem to pm anyone instantly and the webpage it links to, to go about unlocking it that way just doesnt load anything really.
How can I go about getting this show on the road and unlocking my bootloader so I can actually do fun stuff with my phone and at least over clock it as thats all I really wanna achieve out of it?
Sure this kinda craps been asked a million times but when the faqs links no longer work I dont know what else im supposed to do.
Already used super one click and rooted the phone that part was easy enough.
there's a hope
Hi, i'm new, i hope i'm not breaking any rule with this.
If you got this:
Code:
Rooting Status:
Bootloader unlock Status: No
Then you are unable to unlock your bootloader without pay, but it does not mean you are not able to do fun stuff like you said , you only need to do a test point, give a look to this tutorial TUTORIAL, follow all steps, it is not necessary to sold a clip to usb, you just need to bridge the red points shown at bottom of this post POST . Now you wont be able to flash any .img in fastboot , you should flash .ftf basebands and kernels in flashmode, then flash rom with CWM then enjoy your phone .
I'm no an english speaker so i'm sorry if my english is not good, you can see THIS post which xplains better than me.
And here you can find all (i think) kernels for xplay in ftf ready to flash.
Hope i was helpful. Good luck. :fingers-crossed:

How to root Tab 3.8 sm-t315 with Android 4.4.2

Hi, im totally new to this kind of things, and i hope you can help me. I have searched for many tutorials for my device, and found a lot. The most recommended solution was to get the cf autoroot file and do the odin stuff, i think you know what i mean. But before i start on a tutorial, i have gone to the official chainfire site and theres the sentence "if you have locked bootloaders, flashing one of these will probably brick your device".
The thing is, most of the tutorials who recommended chainfire doesnt say a thing about the bootloaders, and the others have something like "after you have root acces with cf, you can unlock the bootloader by...". To be honest, i dont know exactly if my bootloader is locked. The servicenumber doesnt work. My Tab is from Telekom (germamy) and show a branding when turn it on.
So what should i do? Whats the savest way to get my tab rooted? What are the facts on this, apart from my bad englisch? Thanks for reading, hope you can help!
Cant anybody help?
