How to keep apps in memory? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Is there a way to keep apps in memory?
I have a Galaxy Nexus which has a lot of ram. I only use some minor applications but it seems the system kills the processes which are only several mb all the time.
When I check my free ram its mostly half empty.
Is there a way to tell android to keep an app in memory?

Anybody has any way of doing this?
I'd like to keep my game in my RAM so that i dont have to load it every time i wanna play it (which is oftenly)
Any apps that can select stuff to keep in RAM?

That's not how multitasking on Android works. First of all it's the apps choice what it does if you bring it to the background (if it gets suspended or is left running). And then there is Android which will throw out any background app, that is not taking the necessary steps to prevent this from happening, pretty quickly if it is using to much cpu time/RAM. So games won't run in the background by design, not much you can du about that.

Give this a shot

There was an experimental feature going of not killing anything unless you kill manually
There is some leg work involved to get working on jb... but V6 has been around a while and I've run it in one form or another(lots of options) on every android device I've owned since I learned of it.

Play store always jumping back to top

Am I the only one who has a problem with this? It's really getting on my nerves that after I looked at an app in the play store I click back button and I'm back at the top of the list and have to scroll all the way back down to find the next app...
Is there a workaround or fix? I can't be the only one.....

Nope you are not the only one
I don't think it stayed like ever

That's how it is, unfortunately.

Yeh, it's one of the things that makes Playstore so frustrating to use. The other is that you can't sort search results by criteria like number of stars, permissions, cost, popularity, compatibility, etc.
I heard something about an apk called "play legend" it allows you to see which apps you purchased like in GB but i dunno about this issue
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
dito man its a great app but can still use some obvious improvements. Sorting and saving where you are on the list being at the top.
Seems like the fixed it with the new play store update. I love Google. I complain and they immediately fix it....... At least this time

Yeah but it's been like this since the playstore was released. I believe the old market had the same issue, but I really don't remember.
Mine too, definitely annoying when browsing "My Apps", and I have to scroll all the way down again.

[Q]my ram crosses 318mb/351 mb.all the sounds of my phone disappers

i have a strange problem with w.whenever my ram crosses 318mb/351 mb.all the sounds of my phone disappers.i cant play music, video,no locking and unlocking sounds.i have to restart the phone again.this happens atleast once every day.any thoughts on this?
OK....my best guess is it's the phones way of protecting it's "core" functions. The ram usage has reached a point where there is a danger of failure of its prime functions and it is attempting to divert ram from other non essential services. First thing you've got to do is find out what's eating your ram. There are apps available that can supply this information though I don't know what they're called as I've never had to use them (sorry) Are you using a lot of apps that run in the background to bring you notifications etc? If this is the case and you don't really need the app, delete it....simples.....
There is also a setting in CM9 that allows you to turn off background data if you need to keep the apps......give it a go and see....it might be all you need to do
From my Galaxy W on CM9 and CWM6 with Tapatalk 2
Other things to try.....
Keep the number of home screens to a minimum.....
Remove "Widgets" from your home screens....
Apps like Facebook, eBay, amazon, PayPal, hmv, game, email....basically any app that takes you to a website.....they ALL use ram and they will ALL restart if you close them......they can ALL be deleted and replaced by bookmarked web searches that can be pasted to your home screen....sure you won't get a notification if billy has commented on your status, or if you have an unread email, or if that item you're watching is ending soon, but if your phone works better as a result....who cares lol.......
If you want to take it further than that, root your phone (if you haven't already) and install Gemini app manager.....you can use it to prevent apps from auto running and using ram.......

yes stock rom
That'll be another reason then.....ur stock OS has all sorts of bloatware (social hub, music hub, games hub, maps.....) all of it using RAM.....another thing to watch for....3rd party launchers (go launcher + addons).....very RAM hungry....ROOT your phone and freeze the bloat.....you WILL notice a difference.....you don't even have to install a custom rom, though that WILL help too.....

hello mate. it can be very frustrating for the app to load a long time. sometimes, the app itself is not stable enough. lots of people complained about the android facebook app. just read it at playstore and look at their comments.. that could be the main factors to yr problem. try updating yr app to a newer version or revert to the previous versions of the app. hope it helps. cheers..
The latest version is quite speedy actually..

ok, it must have been yr 3G network. maybe yr 3G provider caps at low speed... try checking with them.
hi,
yeah i also have this problem in germany.. but really just with mobile data! me and my friend tested it with mobile internet. It did NOT load. Not on my handy, not on his handy. Then he turned hotspot on, i connected to it. now, with hotspot (-> wifi again, but over his mobile internet that didnt load facebook app therefore) it worked more than well.
I guess just a bug with the mobile Internet but I guess it was fixed in the last update tho.
I have a work around. USE facebook via your browser. The interface is similar to the app and it definitely loads faster than the app. It also allows you a few other features that the app doesn't (bugs or design... I don't know... Fb app has always been ****e).

Hoe to free up memory ram and optimize device performance

Guys, is there anyway i can do to make my galaxy nexus faster or hoe to clean up more RAM By using default or old way from the device itself?
Cause i feel im not install lots of app and not running lot of them but its a lil bit annoying cause my phone run a lil bit heavy than usual even I've restart the phone already.
Please need your advance suggestion n guide. So far what ive done is close the app one by one and i notice there is no galaxy nexus. Firmware app that can kill all apps simultaneously.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Don't interfere in androids multitasking. Closing apps that were intended to run in the background is only going to slow your system down overall.
Your best bet is to either make the switch to a more streamlined custom ROM or consider starting fresh.

That's not the way Android works- it seems that you have your phone confused with a Windows PC. Killing processes to free up ram is counterintuitive and serves to slow the device down. Free ram is wasted ram in this case.

freeing ram??
ok if you insist, go to developer options, scroll to "background process", change it to 1 or 2 or 3 or 4
you can also enable "force gpu rendring"

Op, at this precise moment I have 5 home screens full of widgets, and "only" have 172MB of free RAM.
It doesn't lag, it's still snappy. And I don't kill apps. Android kernel does that for me. This isn't Froyo or Gingerbread anymore.
Fine-tune your governor settings.

You might consider switching back to 4.1.2. As far as i have heard all Galaxy Nexus models suffer from poor memory management in de 4.2.x Android versions, often leaving with less than 50mb of free RAM. I personally have this problem and I'm about to switch back. I'm just researching which ROM to get and not lose too many functions.

How to downgrade
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
You should just factory reset and let the phone manage ram how its meant to. Having more free ram may cause a placebo effect but were not talking about windows here...used ram properly is more effecient than unused wasted RAM.
If you want to downgrade search for factory images.

Might as well try the V6 Supercharger http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18703418 run it using script manager from Play Store, other instructions are in the script itself.
It has made my phone quite smoother /4.2.2

Ram management issue

Hello
I've got pretty strange issue with my phone running 4.3. Usually it works fine, fast and stable, but after some time (sometimes it's 2 days from start , sometimes it's 6 days ect.) something bad happens . Phone is more laggy and multitasking is very weak. I had this issue on crossflashed 4.2 too, I'm not sure about 4.1. BTW If it works normally settings shows around 300-200 MB of free ram but when this happens it's around 100 MB or even less. After reboot it works as it should work. Anyone got this issue? Is there any fix or I need to switch to cm?

Always my free RAM is between 100-150.
no lag at all (keeping in mind that I am using XM)
I am using clean master to get more RAM (Closing unwanted processes). there is a lot of apps available @ store
As per senior members word's, Android doesn't need a task manager, as it will close applications by your available RAM.
I have at least 350 RAM free, at all times.

Sorry for my absence xD I've forgotten about my thread.
I've given another chance for 4.3, clean install with root. Unfortunately problem still exist. I know that isn't a high end device but I've got second, even slower device that works better. Yes, I've got some ram hungry apps but only a few (facebook, messeger, swiftkey that's all). I've got only 30 very basic apps installed and I've disabled some unused by me sony apps.
Task managers.... no it's bad idea. I've got two other android devices and they work without any task killers, I never clean recent apps too.
But the most strange thing is that sometimes it can work fine for whole week and sometimes it slows down after two days.
Thanks for your replays.
Use Fly-On Mod for android 4.3 it will solve your ram management issue, added battery backup is bonus
Init.d/busybox needed
