Cannot connect to Rogers - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I recently flashed a ROM that cleared my IMEI = 0. I used to tool to restore the IMEI and verified that it has been reset. I restored the S3 to stock using ODIN but still I cannot make phone calls or connect any better than EDGE.
Can someone please help or at least point me in the right direction?

Unless they assisted you already... These guys.
So to clarify, you restored your IMEI and still no data?

Yes that is right.

Did you just restore imei only? Peoplearmy posted a program last night that generates a QNC backup that goes beyond d just restoring imei, its supposed to help restore data also. Its has worked for a couple people already.

I saw that but was a little concerned that it was only for AT&T and I am on Rogers. I realize that AT&T and Rogers are basically the same but didn't want to risk bricking any further.
I have created a backup of what I have now so I guess no harm in trying it.

I just noticed he updated again this morning for T-Mobile and bell so maybe hold on and rogers will be added. If not bell would be the way to go for the late toggle quick at&t doesn't have

Flashing stock ROM wont reset those settings. You will need to reset the activation on a stock ROM. I'm not sure of the code for that but its been in the treads a few times....
Which would be ##786#.....
Still no avail brother!

Have you contacted your cellular provider? If you changed some settings, most likely calling your provider to get the right settings will be your best course of action.

Alright,so over here in india we use nvitems (dump files) for evdo Else known as 3G. I tried everything but it doesnt seem to go back. Any way to make a phone go back TOTALLY to its 1st stage? When it came out when it was shipped? As in the whole parameters to be new. I tried flashing new parameters, prl, No avail. Just cannot see the 3g logo.
Any help?

Agreed... ankurcshah you've given us very little to go on here. You have to remember that the ET4G your using is mainly a US/Sprint base device.

As far as I know and someone else has already posted this... You can do a factory reset to bring the os back to a "out of box" state. But this in no way will effect, change or the dialer or radios. Those settings are set by the carriers.

Again, this is your original post. In it you clearly state that you "guess" you did the "##DATA# dialer code and" messed something with out my knowledge".
After rereading your original post again I'm thinking it really should have read this way...
"I went into ##DATA# and messed with some of the settings and didn't really know what I was changing." See the difference???
Those setting in "##DATA# or set by the carriers... They are there to tell the radios on your device how to communicate with and what frequency to use for the towers your cellular providers uses.
I'm going to assume that when you got your ET4G you had to contact your cellular provider to get it setup to use their service, right???
Questions:
1. If not how did you get it setup to see their towers???
2. Did they (provider) give you some kind of codes to enter in the ##DATA# settings???
3. If they did, do you still have them and have you tried that???
I've said this before... I really think you need to contact your provider and see if maybe they can re provision your radios.

Nope, I just needed the dump file for the 3g to work, 3g works on my dad's phone and it doesnt on mine. I use the same dump as his. Still? Wierd

The reset I mentioned is a "factory reset" ... But like I already posted... It will only delete all of your user data and reset settings like wifi, email passwords...
It won't reset the radios...

Restored imei but problems [update][fixed]

You would think I learned my lesson but im back to square one. This time however I did back up the file and did the restore. My problem is the connection is horrid very slow I tried some of the methods posted but no luck. I backed up the file as peoplearmy thread says to do as soon as i got the phone. Everything was fine and then i lost my imei, i so no biggie, located my backed up qcn file and restored. Afterwards i seen my 4g come up, i said cool i tried to use it the arrows would go about then signal would drop. Then when i back out of say Market app because nothing is happening the signal goes back up to full, like every time i try to download something the signal goes out, the dBm goes crazy too.

What about those of us that didnt backup a qnc or efs before root?
I've been searching all day for a way to get my 4g back after losing it following a permission fix in CWM. I love that the 20+ tutorials I read on how to root your phone never once mentions backing up these additional items. At this point, I would sacrifice all my contacts and apps just to get my data connection off EDGE and back on to 4g.

Stuck on Edge!!!

Hello everyone,
I wonder if anyone can help me. I have a rooted Samsung Galaxy S III from T-mobile, running CM 10. Since last week I've been having trouble with it after I updated the CM 10 rom. For some weird reason I cannot receive calls while I am using my data connection, incoming calls are always sent to voicemail. I tried the ##DATA# code to try to turn off the DDTM mode but later on I read that I cannot access this menu unless I am on stock ROM, I tried to flash T-mobile's stock ROM with Odin but the process kept getting stuck with no progress at all.
I kept looking and I came to the idea that my problem was my IMEI, which when I checked, was 0. I restored my IMEI and now I have my IMEI number and everything but I my internet connection is still stuck on EDGE and I cannot receive any calls. I even tried updating my modem I tried several different T-mobile modems for my phone and none of them can take my phone off EDGE.
then I tried changing the network type with the *#*#4636#*#* the actual network type option that it has selected is WCDMA preferred, I went ahead and selected LTE/GSM/CDMA but that option doesn't stay!!! I am going nuts here!!! I want my 4G connection back, I have tried everything with no luck at all.
I just hope that somebody out there has gone through this and found a solution cause I am losing all my hope and I don't want to take my phone to T-mobile since I cant flash it back to stock rom.
If anyone here could please help out I will be extremely thankful.
Thanks in advance.

It's more to it than simply injecting your IMEI. You have to inject it, back it up, and then restore it.
Well i had to enter my IMEI manually to generate a .txt to write it to my phone because the one i had before was corrupted cause it was 0.
Was thete any other step that I skiped doing?
I figure i wouldnt make a back up before injecting my IMEI manually cause i didnt have one.
Am I screwed??
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Yes, you skipped two complete steps. There's three steps, again, Injection, Backup, and then Restore. Go back to Peoplearmy's thread and follow it completely.

Only thing is that whenever i find a possible solution i doesnt fix it since it seems it is something else. I am trying now to do peoplearmy's post to see if this one does the trick. I did this method, I cant actually check if my 4g is working since unfortunately at home I always get EDGE so I will check later when I go out.
I have a question, I did check on the dialer my IMEI but I saw a picture of somebody on peoplearmy's thread and their IMEI included a /0# at the end and I realized that mine doesn't.
Does the IMEI need to have that /#0 at the end in order to work or is it ok? I just want to make sure since I can only check my connection speed when I go out.
thank you

As far as I know, your IMEI should just be a simple number. If the IMEI you're seeing on the software matches your IMEI on the back of your phone, then you're good in that department. If you also followed the steps for the backup and restore. Then you're good. The backup is important, because it allows for the restore. The restore has some (stuff) that adds all of the settings back to allow you to connect to 4G. Does that make sense? It's a three-step process when you lose your IMEI for the first time.
Inject, backup, restore. It has to be done, because the restore really does add something back to make it work properly.
Should you lose it again in the future, you can simply just restore and be right back.

My phone only roams... won't connect to Sprint

Even in places where I normally get a very strong 3G SPRINT signal, my phone will roam. Just started today after I flashed DeviantXone ROM with 3.4 Linux Kernel (test build from yesterday). Anyone have any suggestions to fix this issue? Thanks a lot.
Try restoring a nandroid, backing up your IMEI (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30682712) and then reflashing your ROM. The back up may not be needed as sometime the problem fixes itself. It's happened to me a few times and tends to happen upon first flashing a ROM but usually when I reflash all is good. However it is a good practice to have your IMEI backed up in case this happens.

That should work, and just follow the steps listed in that thread on backing up your IMEI. You have to use adb, if you don't know how to use adb, go to the Q&A thread on this subforum and read the ADB workshop thread.

This may have worked but you really should read up on backing up your IMEI, it has saved many people and if you know how to use ADB, which you should learn how eventually as it is a powerful tool, it's actually really simple.
The fact is that what you did was restore to a time when your IMEI was in a good state but in the case that all is lost and you have to revert to stock using the Odin method, then having your IMEI backed up is a good thing and again it only takes a second to do and stays on your phone between ROMs
what to do now?
I'm having the same problem except my imei isn't gone. When i go to my about phone it says my phone number is 000-000-0016, my min is 0000000016. Service state: no service, mobile network type: UNKNOWN:0 I've flashed every ROM , kernel, and modem combo possible and nothing changes this?

Roaming isn't unlimited. They terminate your contract when it gets to a certain point

Technically, we don't have unlimited roaming. According to the Sprint Terms and Conditions (a lovely document, excellent prose):
The primary use of your Device must be for domestic purposes within the Sprint-owned network. Domestic means use in the 50 United States and U.S. Territories (except Guam). Sprint reserves the right, without notice, to deny, terminate, modify, disconnect or suspend service if off-network usage in a month exceeds: (1) voice: 800 min. or a majority of minutes; or (2) data: 300 megabytes or a majority of kilobytes. The display on your device may not always be on and will not indicate whether you will incur roaming charges. You can monitor usage online through My Account. Roaming is not available with single-band phones, or to customers who reside or whose primary use is outside an area covered by the Nationwide Sprint Network. Sprint may limit or terminate service if you move outside of the Sprint owned-network.

Now, they really won't terminate you for downloading that 301 MB file while roaming, but if you're racking up Gigs after Gigs on roaming, you might be kicked off.
Just a FYI.

I don't think you're totally understanding what it is that we're talking about. Yes the phone is "roaming" but theres no network connection. In other words the phone has no service at all (thats what my problem is) but if your phone is roaming a lot, even in spots where you should have good signal then I'd look into fixing that.

A very weird problem.. I need some help with!

Ok, So I have an Epic 4g flashed to Cricket, I have made everything work(mms, test, talk, ect.) I have it on Android 4.1.2. My problem is I only get 3G and its not very dependable. I live in Phoenix, A.Z. Anyone have any ideas on what to do?

Look, I'm trying to assist you. If all you are going to do is plead for help over and over again without providing answers, then I cannot help you.
Have you done anything to the phone since you last had stable connections?

I think he's implying that that's how it's always been, or possibly that he has done all of this within the last few days. However long it's been, to me it doesn't sound like a recent issue that has cropped up.
Just my obversvation though. Unfortunately that's all the help I can offer heh

So hears what happen, I bought this phone 2 months ago I rooted the phone than flashed acouring to a tutorial I found on this site. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780742)
After that I instealed the Provision Rom
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2129233)
After that I flashed the Cricket mms fix found here
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1649508&highlight=cricket+mms)
So I did not notice the 3g to 2g/1g switch because most of the time I am around wifi.. I have changed it since then or added anything.. I hope this is a better disription...

I don't use a MVNO, so I am not sure which regular troubleshooting steps would clear away your carrier settings. (I'm thinking using EFS Clear in Odin is the only concern, but that is sometimes needed for modem issues.)
Based off that rom's thread, you must be using the NS4G modem. Since your issue is with connectivity:
Perform a CWM backup of your current setup.
Flash an Epic modem rom and FC09 modem. (You can flash the modem using CWM. There's a thread in the dev forum w/ links.)
Try testing connection again.
I'd normally tell a Sprint Epic user to boot into FC09 multiboot and update profile & PRL, but I don't even think the PRL update would work for you. I'd then say, start from scratch by using Odin to flash FC09 with repartition checked. If they still had issues with connectivity, then I'd recommend using EFS clear in Odin when reflashing either just the FC09 modem or the entire FC09 tar.
Because you are on another carrier, I'm weary of suggesting you use Odin so quickly. If you haven't already, dive into your phone settings and document your carrier specific info you changed to get it working. This way, if you end up doing something that resets your original changes, then you can reconfigure it.
So give the suggestion that is listed above a try.
Since I'm very much a noob myself, I'm only tossing this out to possibly trigger an idea for someone else: Would perhaps the issue lie in the Build.prop or one of those similar files? I've poked around so many of them I can't remember which hold what tidbits of info... I know the Build.prop holds most of the primary carrier info, but I seem to recall another one that stored a bunch of info for a bunch of the other carriers (though that might have been for roaming and may not be of any help here).
*shrug* Otherwise, I's gots nothin' lol
