OnStar RemoteLink - Epic 4G Apps

I don't know how many people use the OnStar RemoteLink app, but I have used it since I bought my new truck in December. Those 0% interest deals were really good to me! The app use to use Google maps to send an address to your vehicle. Someone somewhere decided it would be a good idea to get rid of Google maps and replace it with Bing. I swore that I would not upgrade to the latest version that uses Bing. However, the app now throws an error when opening, and is forcing me to upgrade in order to continue using it. Does anybody know of a way to keep the version that uses Google maps running? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Google Navigator

I have been playing with Google Navigator (not Google Maps) from here http://www.pdafun.net/index.htm
In it there is a download for off-line use option, but only for registered users.
Are you a registered user? Does it work?
I have access to wifi at work and at home, but in the car I don't have access to the internet, no 3G, edge or anything.
The trial version appears to let me draw a box around an area to download but then I am asked to register, US$60. Well if this works I will gladly buy it, if not it's not any better (for me) than Google maps which is free.
Thanks for any help or experiences.
never heard of this..... will download it and give it a try... im running ig8 and its flawless for me... the lag is maybe 20 feet off... i pass intersection, and the gps is passing it soon after... but ill give this a go
If you want to prepare Google Maps offline and and take them on your next trip I rather steer you towards GPSTuner from Hungary, a very professional solution, and in some app stores available for around 20 dollars: http://www.gpstuner.com/ Version 6 coming soon, but likely no free update due to major improvements
App store with special: http://www.pocketland.net/product.php?prod_id=13384
Google Navigator also has voice instructions a-la Igo etc. It's a lot more than offline Google Maps.
I have had an email back from the author, it does require a network connection to plan a route. So even if you could have the maps it doesn't work like a fully offline route planner. That for me is enough not to buy it.

[Q] Bing maps no longer doing map search/navigation?

Hello, does anyone know if Microsoft has turned off support for Bing Maps and Navigation in the Windows Mobile app? I found that starting late last week, Bing can no longer find anything when searching for addresses or businesses in the maps section of the app.
Searching for an address/business in maps returns the error "Sorry, we can't complete your search. Please check your connection and try again."
Searching for an address or business in the navigation section (Endpoint) returns "Sorry, we couldn't find this location."
Trying to navigate to a favorited address returns the error: "We were unable to generate your route. Try again?"
Using an HTC Touch Pro 2, WM 6.5 App, Sprint is the carrier, Bing Mobile version 5.1.2010.6280
I think everyone including MS is trying to bury WM 6... so this does not surprise me.
As far as navigation I would try and find a copy of Garmin XT. The only reason Im still using my Tilt 2 is because of the no data plan required GPS G-XT. Its truly amazing

I used bing navigation two days ago and it worked fine.
Sounds like you need to do some housecleaning on your device.
Also, I suggest you update QuickGPS then after that soft reset and then after rebooting completely open the bing app and try it.
Obsolete

might just not be working in his country or region?
bing not working
same problem here.
i get: "Sorry, we cannot complete your search. Please check your connection and try again"
with any search string.
I'm using a HTC Touch Pro2 on sprint.
between opera, Bing, and SERO I really didn't see any need to upgrade my phone. but losing Bing really reduces the functionality of my phone.
Yes, I have re-installed Bing, updated quick GPS.
The same thing has happened to me. I"m using an HTC Touch Pro 2, WM 6.5 App, and Sprint is the carrier. Bing mobile has worked for me for about a year, all of sudden last week the Navigation no longer works, can't find any addresses. The Map works and can "Locate Me", but I'm unable to get driving directions.
I noticed that Navigation is grayed out in Bing Settings. Does anyone know a resolution to all of this? Thanks
Microsoft is really trying hard to eliminate WinMo from everyone's memory...
Have you guys tried Waze...?
Waze seems nice but it keeps crashing sense on exit. If I can find a workaround I'll definitely use it, although I will miss the voice search Bing offered.

Waze doesn't have voice search? I guess the voice search I use in Waze is provided thru the OS not Waze itself... Never used Waze on WinMo, only Android and iOS... Sorry.
Have you tried disabling Sense? I know, it's really the only thing that makes WinMo bearable...

using the task manager to kill Waze avoids the problem.
I might give Waze a shot. I've actually been running Android on the phone and using Google Navigation and it has been going pretty well. Voice search works real well, and Google Nav seems just as good as Bing at navigating around traffic. Biggest complaint at the moment is that Qik doesn't work on it, but it hasn't worked on Windows Mobile in over a year, so no big loss.
Android is a bit slow at times, but so far has been pretty damn stable. Most of the apps I've tried run decent enough. No games of course.
The biggest draw back of Android for me so far has been battery life. Some times the phone can easily go overnight without a charge, and other times it eats up the battery in 3 hours of no use. Seems like some of the third party apps don't properly close out when you're done using them and prevent the phone from going to sleep mode. I think I've managed to figure out who the trouble makers are (one was a garage sale app), and haven't noticed any problem with any of Google's apps or the major third party apps (Tapatalk, Facebook, Pandora, Opera).
Overall its been a very positive experience and instead of upgrading to a new phone I'm seriously considering continuing to use my TP2 but with Android as the primary OS for as long as possible.
I just have to keep reminding myself that playing the latest Angry Birds isn't worth $20/mo extra, and that while a better camera would be nice, I don't NEED it.
There are still a lot of Windows Mobile devices out there. In fact some carriers were still selling them less than a year ago. I know Microsoft sent an email out concerning closing the Market Place for Windows Mobile users, but I don't remember getting anything on Bing. It's funny how they don't support their own people and end up driving their long time users to other apps and OS's (ie. Google Maps/Android). Is there anywhere where you can at least ask the question of what the issue maybe and if they plan on fixing it.

You can try tweeting them I guess... Social media has made large companies respond to small issues before.
I don't think Microsoft will really care about any issues with WinMo, they want you to buy a WP7 phone. They continue to support WinMo, they're basically continuing the loss of revenue.
I can guarantee you I will not be buying a Windows 7 Phone based purely on the way MS has treated WM users, especially after promising that they would continue to support WM.
Also, here's a post I made about this at the Bing forums and the response:

Short answer, MS turned off the token service the app was using.

I figured it was something like this. Thanks for closure, even if it's not the kind you were hoping for...
Android FTW
This is lunacy! Bing mobile was the only reason I still have a WinMo device. Does MS really think by disabling Bing mobile is really going to make me by a Win 7 phone? NOT! Guess where I'll be going next? Not MS because of the heavy hand treatment.
There is no harm in letting an app continue to work. We've all expected no more updates, but disabling = alienating. This is the last straw, bye MS!
With all that said, I've been trying alternatives for navigation and Waze seems to be the best free. Google maps is OK, but the GPS is not accurate and the text is super small to read so not really useful while driving. I found others that seemed promising but just cant get them to work. I'll stick with Waze for now until I get an iPhone or Android.
This is so unfortunate since Bing mobile was by far, better than any navigation app (including TomTom), even on the iPhone (my wife has an iPhone so I've tried others). I have no idea why MS keeps shooting themselves in the foot. Get a clue MS! This is why you are so far behind everyone else! Its not your technology, its your execution!
Try loading Android on your phone. I've been having good luck with Google Navigation, it bypasses traffic like Bing does, and its search is much better at finding destinations.

The release I linked to there is stable and most everything works. The only "trick" I had to learn was to put WM into Airplane mode before launching Android.

this is crazy, first myphone then marketplace now bing. what the heck. for tyhr first time im actually considering moving to android. ive been playong with waze and it is an awesome idea but the navigation is not comparable to a standalone gps where bing was almost. The fact that i could do voice searches actually made it better then my old garmin. I was gonna update my dad to a smartphone and give him an extra tp2 figuring he could really use a gps. Now that sprint forced us to update too a current plan im gonna try the sprint navigation. I went to see your post and microsofts response but they seemed to remove it. what did they say?
Weird, wonder why they removed it. Guess they were getting flamed by angry people after their response.
Basically someone from MS said that he wasn't familiar with the Bing app for WM, but that they'd recently turned off the "old" token service. So if the old app used those tokens to communication to the Bing servers, it wouldn't work any more.
And again, I'd suggest loading Android on the TP2 and trying out Google Navigation. It has a voice search that seems much better than the Bing app for voice recognition, and much better at finding locations.

VZ Navigator

I have a fair amount of searching and not found a workable solution. I personally don't use it but the wife refuses to use anything but VZ Navigator. Problem is as I understand it rooted roms don't contain certain GPS-related files required for VZ Navigator to work. I believe it has something to do with aGPS drivers. Does anyone know how to get it to work on a rooted Inc 2? As a corollary question if I do get it to get work will I thus have f'd up Google Maps/Nav/GPS?
Thanks.

Google navigation is free and works rooted or not. I know that's not the answer you are looking for, but it beats the hassle to get VZ Navigator to work.
I totally agree which is why I don't bother myself with VZ Navigator.....but the more important hassle to me is trying to explain AGAIN to my wife why VZ Navigator doesn't work and how to use Google Nav. She's not particularly tech-savvy. (e.g. wireless router = "that Netgear white box thingy")
Have you tried GPS Status & Toolbox from the Play Store? Free app that I used to use on my D3, which had absolutely terrible GPS in my opinion. It can download aGPS data.
Smack a ***** and show her Google maps/navigation.

Some Apps just aren't available?

Hey all,
Verizon LG G3, just purchased a couple of days ago. I'm beginning to notice some apps that simply aren't available on the App store. Most notably, ESPN Sportscenter. Anyone know why, and how to fix? I read somewhere that it could potentially be because the app isn't compatible with the Quad HD screen?
The app itself is highly likely to work fine, the issue will be that the Play Store entry will need to be updated by the dev effectively ticking a new box to say that it works on the resolution of the G3.
That is all they need to do.
Best way to do this is to email to ask them to do it, although you might find that larger companies just ignore you, but we have to try.
I had the same problem with MS Office so I looked on the internet for the apk and it installed works fine.
Same thing happened with the DNA, but much more apps. It'll take a few months for some.

My Xperia play Has internet but can't connect to any servers...

I just got a new xperia play from hong kong. Its a R800A and its connected to koodo. The only issue is the fact that I can go on the browser but almost every site is blocked/cannot be connected. This is the same situation with every other internet app especially the preinstalled ones like Market. No matter what I do it says something like "Cannot Connect to Servers, Please try again later" It has me so upset and no matter where I go on the internet there is not a single person who can help so I'm making this report and hoping someone can help me.
To speed things up I live in Canada and I can call and text without issue. But when I go to the internet I can't do anything.
Thank you for reading if you have any information on what i can do or what will help please reply and help me
I just bought a used R800X and was wondering the same thing - Wifi doesn't work anywhere except for the stock browser. After some searching apparently Google Play Services support for Android versions under 4.0 was killed off earlier this year.
So if your Xplay is still on 2.3, you won't be able to use the Market or pretty much any app that uses Google Services. You can still sideload apps that you've backed up with Titanium on another device or just install some APKs from the net. If you really can't live without Google Services look into getting a custom ROM based on 4.0+.
My R800X has some dumb issues in regards to the bootloader so ROMs are pretty much out of the question for me, but I was still able to get it rooted and install a bunch of emulators. Hopefully you have better luck. Cheers mate!

Thank you! thankfully I'm bit of a nerd so I went online and force updated the app store to the latest version and now I can get basic apps. Down side is that it keeps breaking and crashing every few minutes so I'm going to uninstall most of the unnecessary apps and see if that will help fix most of the issues with crashing. Also the fact that most of them are always running in the background doesn't help xD.
I also have planes to overclock using my sd card. like take some of the memory to boost my phones power
I had a bit of the same but I managed to get it rooted and my bootloader is unlocked. Thing is most links (like it has been said) has been killed off. But I need a custom rom for the phone...it’s getting me really mad. Suggestions? Help? Please?
For custom ROMs, it's gonna be a crapshoot going through all of the threads and looking for links that are still hosted online somewhere. /u/ TheNameBrand had some success with installing CM9 recently, but ran into wifi issues or something. Here's the link if you're still interested: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024782
If you end up sticking with stock and don't have the Market/Play Store running, you can download the latest 2.3 compatible version of the Play Store here: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...-2-02-release/
