hey guys i dont know if this is normal but my GPS tends to take a long time to lock in Telus stock rom. I know you can use fasterfix app but that means i would have to root my phone and so far i dont see the need of it the phone is great no issues at all and the battery is great too 2 days with moderate use. please let me know if you have found a solution without rooting. thanks a lot guys
Att version will give you a3 meter lock in about 15 seconds. Sounds like you may have a bad unit.
if you check your gps settings let me know how long does it take for you to look for location with and without "use wireless networks". if I use wireless networks then yes it takes a couple seconds but if i do not use that option then it takes a significant longer time to lock on just GPS
let me know thanks
That was without wireless networks.
My Rogers SG3 i747m WITHOUT A-GPS from my cellular connection locks GPS outdoors in around 20 seconds to the accuracy of 3 meters according to GPS_Test.
Indoors, it can take about a minute..

Hello again Reg/Software techies!
Is it possible to make a Reg tweak / software to auto detect Wifi ?
so that i wont have to set it up every time?
10x in advance,
That would be lovely...
There are tools available to turn it on/off at certain times of the day - but I guess, without it being "on", it can't detect the presence of a network, and thus it is a catch-22.
Best I can think of, is for it to be turned on every x minutes, and set to disconnect if it isn't connected to a network for >1 minute - thereby it would keep cycling around, but you could feasibly walk into a WiFi area and not pickup signal for as long as "x-1" minutes. Lets say you get it to check every 10 minutes, you could wait as long as 9 minutes after walking into a hotspot before it picked up the signal and stayed connected.

That's a really interesting thought. I wonder how well that would work (at least in terms of saving battery).
What I think the original poster wanted, however, is to give the Universal the ability to automatically connect to each unsecured network that it finds without any user intervention. Battery life aside, you can leave WiFi on all the time, but if it detects a network it prompts you before it connects.
Brett
Brett knows what I meant
although - it would be nice to tell the device:
search for an unsecured wi-fi connection every 2 minutes.
if it disconnects - in another 2 minutes it will search another connection anyway!! 8)
(as for batt. life - true. HOWEVER- if its a prog. that does it, it doesnt have to be ALWAYS on...)
Well, is there such a programm or option for this?
any 1?
Hello, I just upgraded from an Evo Shift to the Epic Touch and absolutely love my phone. However, one thing has not been working as expected. On my Evo Shift, I was able to obtain a coarse location fix solely using the mobile network (e.g. GPS is turned off, and I get a 2000ft accuracy general network location). This was great to use along with tasker so that I wasn't having to consume so much battery to get a general location.
However, with my Evo Shift it seems as if whenever I attempt to obtain a coarse general network-based location, it either does not give me a fix at all (your current location is temporarily unavailable) or gives me an incorrect location. When I turn on the GPS itself, it gives me pinpoint fine location, but I'd rather not have to keep GPS on all day in order to have tasker turn on my wifi. As far as settings/mods, I am running stock EL29, rooted (with no modifications), have "Use Wireless networks" checked in location and security settings, and normally turn off wireless when I'm not home.
Thank you in advance for any thoughts or comments.
Bumping this in hopes of an answer or at least some insight.
I know that there are a lot of threads that provide GPS solutions, but those seem to be regarding how to get a GPS lock, not necessarily issues with aGPS.
Thanks in advance.
I just checked maps quickly.
GPS on: 10m accuracy
GPS off, wifi on: 20m accuracy
GPS off, wifi off: 1800m accuracy
Seems like it's working as it should. I'm on Caulkin's EL29 Rom, with EG30 modem. Hmm.. why am I on EG30 modem.. all this flashing back and forth I never checked last time I went back.
my aGPS shows 2700m accuracy.
the center point is also 15 miles southeast from my current location.
WAAAAAAAY to inaccurate lol
The other day I drove 30 miles away and Llama never changed my cell mast. I also work 10 miles from home and my cell mast never changes. So Llama is unusable for me as well. (Since my phone evidently stays on the same cell tower no matter where I go in the salt lake valley)
Hello, thank you for your responses. Since my last post, I followed the fix specified in this thread, which resolved the issues I was having even on a stock rom. IN addition, it did not seem to negatively affect fine gps location, which was ok before.
With that resolved I actually moved to Caulkin's EL29 rom (for battery reasons), and still was able to pull both coarse and fine network location, so all is good.
I guess the resolution is if you can not pull coarse network location via cell tower triangulation (essential for either Llama or Tasker), either use the fix at the following link, or try another ROM:

Hi all
Wondering if anybody can recommend any signal monitor apps that work properly with the One X. Almost every single one I've tried fails to report loss of signal, and those with access to signal strength data or graphs show a continuous -99dBm.
I had one that was working (Traffic Monitor by RadioOpt GmbH) but an update a couple of weeks ago took the QoS monitor out of both the free and paid versions.
I have an extremely frustrating problem with regular signal dropouts of anywhere from a few seconds to multiple minutes with my One X, even in locations that show three bar signal much of the time, without me moving the phone. Disabling and reenabling the radio seems to restore service almost all the time. I've also had one total dropout for a 24 hour period which even enabling then disabling airplane mode didn't cure, which was fixed with a reboot. I'm trying to troubleshoot where the problem lies; other phones don't show great signal in the same location either, but they work just fine.
Unfortunately, I've lost the only tool I can find that will show a graph of signal strength or even alert me when my phone drops to "emergency service only".
Anybody? I'm still battling problems with my phone, and it would be really helpful if anybody could chip in and say if they've found a single app that can monitor GSM signal strength on our phones...

Thanks, I've tried that one and it gives me a continuous -99dBm, regardless of whether the phone claims to have five bars or no signal at all.
I use this, works fine

I wonder if the OP's phone has an issue (conflicting app?) Just that those mentioned all work with my HOX
Just got back from a trip to the UK and the entire time I could not get a gps lock, it would not pick up even one sat. I was using the phone on wifi there and had maps downloaded so I would not need a network connection. I used gps test and a few other apps on the market to get it going. I tried re flashing blazer 4.1 and new kernels and modems but nothing would work. Got home today and I got a quick lock in the house in seconds .In England the phone would not pick up one sat even after 15 minutes of being outside with it actively searching.

The GPS on this phone won't lock unless you have the cell radio turned on. It might need access to towers as well, I forget.
After the initial lock, you can turn off the cell radio and it'll continue to work.
Hello all. Hope someone can help me. I have 3 pieces of T210. I have tried 4.2.2, 4.4.2 and 3 custom firmware. Im very surprised because the wifi signal is not stable even if im 1 meter far from wifi router. Tried to many kind of routers, Mikrotik, ubiquiti, cisco. Another problem am facing is the WDS option (roaming). when im on a WDS network (2 or more routers) the tabs need to many time to switch at the best signal about 15-20 sec or more. I have tried some apps saying improve wifi switch but no results. Can anyone tell me if there is any kind of modification to android to increase scanning time (or let it always on) even if the device is on standby. I don't care about battery life. Thank you for reading.
