Revert back to other roms currently on CM10 Preview - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I am currently running CM10 but want to try different ROMs but when I load them
They just loop the Samsung logo at the boot screen and won't boot up any ideas
On how to fix this help would be appreciated
Thanks in advance

Help please can I flash another recovery? On top of the touch based one I am not sure why I can't load kyan ROMs and other ICS ROMs

Are you doing a factory reset before you flash Kyan?

Yeah, wipe everything. Format /system. Then install the new ROM.

May have to install a samsung kernal. Don't know if all of the samsung based roms come with a kernal.

KyanROM doesn't have a kernel you've got to flash stock kernel first

AOSP kernel maybe? I know some (all?) of the stock based ROMs don't flash a kernel. Just a guess, haven't gone from AOSP to stock.
Do you have a nandroid of a touchwhiz rom ? I go back and fourth to cm10 to my stock nandroid backup without issue. Try that.

What kernel did you use?

Kernel was on my mind today since I went from WanamLite to DietICS and suddenly WiFi stopped working. It was because I had flashed the faux123 kernel while on WanamLite and had to reflash it after going to DietICS. Little things I'll eventually get used to!

Yep definitely kernel, would a said so immediately as I had same issue. Always be weary of the kernel u have installed when flashing to new or different rom as many roms dont have a kernel with them. And many custom kernels will cause this issue. U got it figured out anyways so live and learn and keep it in mind for future

I bricked my phone somehow and i need expert help please.

This was in the course of over 20 days.Ok, i was stock rooted, then i flashed CWM, then i flashed AOKP Rom, everything was going smooth. Then i flashed an update to AOKP Rom, then my Data started acting up. Then i flashed Sammy Kernel that goes with AOKP Rom, My data was still acting up. I suspected a corrupt IMEI, so i figured i flash back to stock through odin using stock ATT Images, and try to recover my IMEI. So i flashed Stock ATT image through Odin, but now my phone wont go past the samsung logo. It loads the ATT boot animation, then stays stuck on the samsung logo. Help please.
The expert help you need is to do a full reflash of the phone in ODIN.
When you flashed stock did you also flash the kernel? Might pose an issue
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Try flashing the Sammy kernel in cwm. That should fix you up.

Relax its not bricked. Boot into the Samsung recovery the same way you do it to get into cmw and clear cache. It will boot.

My i747 does the same, I've tried several time with stock kernel, Ziggy kernel and kt747 kernel but I Berber got passed the logo. I tried both, cwm and twrp latest recovery. It is the only ROM not booting on my phone so I'm not sure what's up with that.

Which really stinks because I love Galaxymod but I guess I got lucky that it worked well for me with minimal effort. There one thing I've never had to do on 5 phones and wont say it for fear of jinxing myself haha

Installing AOKP on S3 with JB 4.1.1

Hey guys, I just picked up a new Galaxy S3 this morning and I'm not sure how to install a custom AOKP rom.
I've already rooted the phone, but because the firmware is 4.1.1 I'm unsure how to proceed.
Should I just install the latest AOKP rom version, or do I need to upgrade to a newer firmware while still using stock and go from there?

Should be in the q&a threads...
You'll need to install a custom recovery (twrp or cwm)
Than you can flash any ROM you want. If you want Tasks aokp just download the newest version and most recent gapps and flash as instructed in the thread.

I believe the rom I used to root my phone also installed CWM, so I should be good to go as soon as I finish downloading AOKP and gapps.
Thanks for the reply, bud.

Make sure you have the latest version of cwm. They're at 6.0.2.3 if your recovery isn't at that than the flash won't work properly.

Check out the link in my signature for backup and rom flashing procedures.
Cwm 6.0.3.1 is the most recent, not 6.0.2.3. You can find it in post #2, at the bottom. It's a zip you can flash in cwm

Success!
Ended up having to install CWM, but everything went smoothly from there and now I'm running AOKP.
Now to replace these damn unicorns on my boot screen...

Do you know if there's any way to remove the image that is displayed before the boot animation? It has a picture of some briefs and says "Task650 Kernel."

It's not really an issue, I just tend to be somewhat of a minimalist when it comes to boot logos and animations.
Either way, I don't know much about compiling kernels. And the consensus seems to be that your kernel is pretty good, so I'm gonna stick with it.
Thanks for the reply, and I appreciate your work on the rom. Cheers!

Kernel Flash

I have not been successful flashing any of the kernels. After flash phone wont boot past the Samsung logo. Not sure what else to do. Any ideas?

You made wipe cache and dalvik before flash kernel?
What kernel you flash?
Yeah did the wipe. Tried them all.
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda premium
you have to make sure that you flash an AOSP kernel on an AOSP rom, and a TW kernel on a TW rom...are you doing that?
what exact kernal are you using each type of ROM?
^this
Well first thing ya better do is see if you still got your recovery.
Then if you could, give us more details?
You said you flashed so you HAD recovery but what about now?
How did you get to where you are at?
What kernels did you try n flash?
Were you on stock kernel?
Rom?
You are on a sghi317?
Im going to assume this is your backup device your posting from?
You ...did unlock your phone right??
Lol you'd be surprised...
I would check two things:
1.Do I have recovery still
2.Can I get into dl mode
Post back!
Oh yeah I was able to get back to recovery just fine. Did restore and decided to leave kernels alone lol. I'm currently running Liquid Smooth. Never had issue like this before. Had the same trouble with Carbon and with Sean's Skynote TW rom
