Maybe im mistaken, but i thought in stock JB MMS, atleast in the AOKP ICS you could convert sms to mms somehow. Am i missing the function in JB mms app?

I just recently switched to Go SMS from Handscent. Mainly because it has been taken off the market. Anyways, Go SMS is fine but I have one minor gripe. When receiving a picture and opening it, it opens in its own stupid viewing program. I hate it cause it downsizes the picture super small forcing you to hit the zoom button 5 times to see it. So far I just hit the save button then open Quikpic and view it there, but is there a way to make it just use Quikpic straight from the message like all other message apps do?
Settings/MMS settings/preserve image resolution. That might solve your image size issues. Don't know how to get it to open in another app for viewing. Suppose you could long press the image.
yeah that didnt help. I see handscent is back on the market maybe i will switch back.
I use go on my EVO and I dont notice any decrease in res I long press message then save attachment to sd

Does anyone else use a custom ROM and your SMS notification no longer lights up after receiving a text in GoSMS? I used to get a blue LED, flashed ACS ICS v4, and now I can never tell when I get a text!
Thanks!

I have the same issues with my GO SMS. I'm also on ACS ICS V5.1. I think it's just specific to the rom itself. I just switched it back from blue to red led flash. It's not blue, but at least it still notifies me.

I have GOSMS and running ACS ICS 5.5. Changed my LED to blue and it lights up and flashes just fine. I'm sure it's in the settings but when I get a MMS, I recieve notification from GO SMS and the Stock Messenging app. I have GO SMS set up to turn off all other notifications but MMS still comes through on both.
Hello everyone,
I absolutely cannot STAND the stock ICS MMS.apk anymore with that stupid smiley on the bottom right corner where the newline or return key used to be on 2.3.
Example:

I can't be the only one absolutely fed up with this. Does anyone know of any good replacement MMS APKs? Bonus points if you can integrate it into the Black MMS APK I'm using right now:

I'm running AOKP Milestone 5 btw which is a build of ICS 4.0.4.

This actually didn't cross my mind sadly as I'm so used to getting everything from XDA or google and not the store!
I'm wondering if there's any lightweight keyboards that look / feel like ICS then? Because a reskin won't be enough, the actual button itself would need to have its icon and mapping changed.

with thumb keyboard i have a custom layout similar to stock but works better for me. it also allows you to bind functions to keys so that what you use most is right there. or look and see what else is available in the market... play... google store... place... thing

I've been a huge fan of the swiftkey 3 beta (link). Love the layout and the prediction engine. I'm using it with the holo theme which gels nicely with the ics feel. In this particular case, using the stock mms app has the return key in that corner, with smileys as the long press behavior for it.
That said it is a free beta that will eventually expire and the paid version is $3, I believe.

try replacing your mms.apk with this one. it is blacked out stock ICS and has replaced the smiley with newline button. just use root explorer and rename yours as mms.apk.bak and copy this one to system/app and set permissions and reboot. may be just what you were looking for.
Keypurr is the best and fastest keyboard in my opinion. You should definitely give it a try

Is there any SMS app that enables you to quick reply in the notification pull down? I understand the CM10 and AOKP roms have this built in, but is this available for Touchwiz? I tried installing the app on Touchwiz but it crashes every time i try to send or receive a MMS. Thanks in advance for any help.
Try Handcent, that's what I use.... You get pop up notification plus short view of the message in notification screen.

ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP BEFORE FLASHING ANYTHING. WORKS WITH DLK7/DLL4 INTERNATIONAL 4.1.2 AND ATTK7 4.1.2 BASE ROMS. ONLY CONFIRMED WORKING FOR AT&T!
A big thanks goes out to Adrynalyn. Without them we would not have the framework needed for all of the features to work!
Downloads (CleanROM 4.0.5 is DLL4)
ATTK7 Stock Theme -- ATTK7 Transparent Blue Theme -- ATTK7 Blue Theme -- ATTK7 ICS Theme
DLL4 Stock Theme -- DLL4 Transparent Blue Theme -- DLL4 Blue Theme -- DLL4 ICS Theme
DLK7 Stock Theme -- DLK7 Transparent Blue Theme -- DLK7 Blue Theme -- DLK7 ICS Theme
Instructions
1. Make a backup
1.5 Using a file explorer, navigate to root/system/framework and copy "framework.jar" to your external SD card. This is in case the mod doesn't work!
2. Download correct zip
3. Using a file explorer, navigate to root/system/app/ and rename "SecMms.apk" to "SecMms.apk.bak"
4. Reboot into Recovery
5. Flash zip
6. Reboot
7. Enjoy!
FAQ
Q: It doesn't work!/How do I uninstall this?
A: If it doesn't work for you then simply replace your framework.jar (located in root/system/framework) with the one you backed up before flashing this. If you want to uninstall the mod then replace your framework.jar with the backed up version, rename "SecMms.apk.bak" back to "SecMms.apk" and delete "Mms.apk" from "root/system/apps". If for some reason you didn't backup your framwork.jar, you can find it in the same location in your current ROM zip.
Q: The Quick Reply options aren't showing up in my notification area!
A: If this happens simply touch the notification with two fingers and pull down.
Q: I can't send or recieve MMS!
A: If your MMS won't send then long tap on the message, tap edit, and then resend the message. If this is still not working, try adding the Cingular APN. (See screenshots below)

I have used one on the last 3 ROMs I've used. I started with NOTEorious, then Asylum TJ, now CleanROM. The NOTEorious AOSP MMS cwm fix has worked great on all the ROMs i've used. It's transparent too. Props to cjsspape, or whomever made that file for him. it is not my work, I'm just mentioning the solution to your question.....
The only thing I have an issue with is when I tap a contact icon (within the AOSP MMS app) it says contacts have force closed, other than that it is fully functional.
Here is the link to his thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1984546
Remember, just download the MMS FIX and flash the FIX only. That is all I do.
Oh, you have to remove SecMMS.apk manually too....otherwise it will still show the TW MMS, not the AOSP mms.

I thought touchwiz did not allow expandable notifications. Why not just go to an AOSP ROM? I suspect that even if someone gets it to work, the experience won't be the same as with AOSP.

That's because you also need the AOSP contacts, which also needs an AOSP dialer, which also needs an AOSP gallery.
Thanks for this though. I will look into it and perhaps make it flashable for those who want it to also remove the secmms.apk automatically.

I use expandable notifications all the time. The only thing I want from AOSP is the messaging app and the features that come with it. I've tried a couple of AOSP ROMs but ultimately I like stock better because of TouchWiz features. I looked up what I wanted and saw progress on other TouchWiz devices so I figured it was possible. Obviously it is possible it just needs a little work. Also, if you're making a flashable zip could you look into changing the theme back to stock AOSP MMS?

Sending pictures stalls sometimes. You need to long click the message, click edit, and then send it again. If quick reply doesn't just up just use two finger and pull down on the message. It'll pull up the quick reply options. I've managed to get the default AOSP MMS as well. I flashed the fix mentioned in the second post and then booted up my phone, pushed the MMS.apk from the JellyBam ROM to system, renamed the default MMS app (Secmms.apk) to "SecMms.apk" and then rebooted. Everything works minus the small MMS issue.

I was able to confirm this works.
1. Reboot to recovery
2. Flashed the noteorious mms fix (which came with the transparent mms app and Blue icons)
If you like it, go to 3 otherwise go to next step.
2a. Extracted mms.apk from jellybam rom and moved it into system/app
3. Rebooted.
The mmsms get stuck the first time around. Strange issue, since if you edit and resend, it works.
Confirmed Quick Reply works and mmsms shows preview in notification.
Thanks!
