android -> windows phone -> android - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello all, I am coming from a HTC Titan 1 Windows Phone v7.5 back to android with the latest and greatest Galaxy S3. The reason I left android is because all the force closes, lame battery life and choppy mechanics. Windows Phone was so smooth and worked great out of the box. Also the HTC felt solid with metal backing and unibody construction.
I was excited to get the Samsung and the first app I installed was Voice because I love the voicemail transcriptions but the app hung on setup. I thought, "great back to the quirkiness of the android os.." however, I did manage to get the app to install. I do not like the cheap feel of the naked Galaxy S3 but it feels very rugged with an otterbox case. The battery seems on par with my Windows Phone but the Titan has only a 1650mAh battery which does not compete with the 2100 mAh battery that the Galaxy is packing.
Ultimately, I got rid of the Windows Phone because it had some quirks (couldn't sync exchange with a self signed cert (before you call me out on this it's the stupid self sign cert FQDN not matching up on the actually forwarded hostname) and the outgoing call quality sucks on the Titan). Really amazed on how far android has progressed since my HTC Eris (amon-ra recovery, workshed GSB v2.3.7 - v4.5 CM7 rom, conap's CFS kernal and sprint Hero radio). Customized the hell out of my Eris back when it came out 3 years ago and it came with v1.5 rom stock.
Sadly this Samsung is not has smooth as the HTC with Windows Phone v7.5 but it's comparable with the android JB v4.1 update. I played with a handset at the ATT store with v4.1 (I guess one of the employees rooted and dropped the rom on there) and it was really fluid. I hope to have as much fun with the Samsung as to my old HTC Eris.

Yea... even on a slightly older phone like the Motorola Atrix (which in no way is an outdated phone... just kinda neglected-ish), JellyBean is a treat to use.

Is the desire for me?

I currently have the HD2, and whilst it's a great phone it's starting to annoy me with how many glitches there are, and how many times it crashes and I have to reset it. I have all the cabs running to prevent this such as memmaid, but it does drive me mad sometimes. The other thing is the lack of apps, having come from the iphone. The 2 things I absolutely love about the HD2 though is the gorgeous home screen (the reason I haven't even looked at windows 7 for it, sad but true) and the size of the screen.
What I would like to know is if you can get the home screen of the Desire to look as stunning as the HD2, what features does the desire have over the HD2, and how good the apps are on android phones? Can you get similar apps to that of the iphone like yell.com, ebay apps etc as well as games? Would I miss the larger screen?
I'm toying between the desire, and waiting to see what the iphone 4g is like when it is released, but they would have to make a lot of improvements on the iphone for me to consider it. I would very much be interested in the Sprint HTC Evo 4G but it appears as though it won't be available in the UK
I come from hd2, now im very happy with desire, all its working as desired and no cabs needed
I was happy HD2 owner. Switched to Desire. I see it this way:
HD2:
- unstable, after 8 years of developing WM (thx microsoft).
- manufacturers mistake causes most devices to develop a "ligter spots" on the screen due the digitizer is coliding with actual display.
- Soft plastic body it deforms on impact.
- laggy touch imput
-+ Is big with BIG screen
+ ActiveSync - working with no problem !
+ multitasking - multitasking - multitasking - multitasking
+ very easily customizable (WM)
+ independent on internet connection (WM)
+ most needet tools alredy integrated in stock rom (file explorer, task manager etc.) = fully usable out of the box.
Desire:
- 5mpix camera makes worse photos then HD2. its like 70% of HD2´s quality.
- only one diode.
- unusable withou internet connection (you wont be able to install anything without downloading at least some file explorer)
- battery compartment doors are stupid and they will be damaged when sim card is exchanged oftenly.
- faulty detection of headphones!!! most regular headphones will work bud no Reproductors !!! Any active HW on jack will cause Desire to act mad. Its TRS and TRRS detection problem (desire exlusive Iam afraid)
- Complicated synchronization (50% cases just wont sync), waiting for official HTC android 2.2
+ Speed of OS
+ stability is better then WM bus Iphone OS is still most stable.
+ Android OS (it is still new and under development, bud already lightyears ahead in front of WM)
+ Google Market lots of apps in one place.

It would be rather pointless if it was, since it is a CDMA/WiMAX device and there are no networks in the UK that support either of these for telephony (though I believe there are some small WiMAX networks for local wireless broadband in places).

Why have this as a particular plus point for WinMo, when Android multitasks too?

Just a thought:
I came from 3gs to desire and consider it better, actually so much better that it makes you wonder just what apple will come up with. Apple are used to having a market to itself and a widely accepted "best" phone of its kind. That has been blown away by the desire (my opinion) but I do wonder just how good the 4g will be against such competiton as the desire on android 2.2. I just cannot imagine apple accepting defeat by releasing something only as good or not quite as good as the desire. It would mean a uturn on flash and maybe some new tricks. I bought my phones outright just in case apple come up with an absolute show stopper BUT it will have to make the desire look like an abacus before I'd pay the mad iphone tariff's again. Android is just to good to be slung over a barrel by apple's controlling ways and prices. Bottom line, I'm fasicinated what the 4g will offer but suspect not enough, though its only a week or so to being announced so watch the "unveiling first" then you'll most likely go get a desire. If we were months away from unvieling I'd say just get a desire. I have only one negative of susbstance to offer about the desire and that is battery life. If you used only as a phone and text then of course its fine but using its capabilities I find its worse than iphone on battery but I can live with it via usb chargers in home, car and work.
Apple?
Apple is out of the game.
All they ever try and do is put bigger storage, and a slightly better camera to make a fatter phone.
It's the same old since the start of the iPod.
They won't come up with anything new, and the whole idea behind the iPhone OS is what holds it back.
As long as you stick with an OS that insists that access to everything is done by shortcuts on your homescreen (and yet still not multitask the way it should), it's going nowhere.
They're trying to do the Windows/Mac thing without the menus.
Look at it this way. I don't have a single icon on the desktop of any of my computers, but still I can access anything I want just as simply, or even see what I want without clicking anything. (a la android + widgets).
Apple made it so you can't see a thing on your home screen, except maybe the current date if you have your calendar icon set to display it.
I speak from experience here, I started with WinMo, and couldn't handle it, I moved to the iPhone and it was a heap of junk, gave it away (free) weeks after spending several hundred on it. Moved to the Xperia, WinMo again, it was nice, but still lacking, even with developing WinMo 6.5 ROMs etc. Then I came to the HTC Hero, amazing phone, best ever I'd say. Then came along the Desire and blew it out of the water. Lets just say, I'm Android for life now, until the next big startup comes and knocks it off its podium.
That being said, if you like customization without the trouble, the nexus is also a nice device, if somewhat slightly less capable than the desire, but it will always get the latest first.
I tried the desire out instore the other day, and I have to say I prefer the HD2. The Desire has some nice features, but I wasn't wowed by it. I've read reviews about how good screen is and I have to say I was very disappointed. Yes it was more colourful/vibrant than the HD2, but it's nowhere near as crisp imo.
I'm not wowed by the new specs of the iphone 4 either, it's a slight improvement on the 3Gs, but not exactly groundbreaking and only just catching up with other phones out there.
So I'm at a lost as to which phone to get, the only other phone that looks interesting is the Samsung Galaxy S, but I haven't tried one yet, and it's only on vodafone.
I think I'll just keep the HD2 and go on a sim only contract until something takes my fancy

LOL.

going back...

currently with ATT and i'm available for upgrade in early July. and seriouslly considering going back to the Iphone. especially with the new iphone 4 and it's specs. unless ATT manages to pull a monkey out their **** and actually get a NICE and usable android phone. and i'm pretty sure i could talk an ATT in-store rep to get a manager to sign off on even early upgrade date. they're pretty flexible here.
i loved the Tilt 2 when i first got it...as with most users. i tried to stay away from hardSPLing and adding custom ROMs but the stock was just TOO slow and buggy. figured custom roms would help. negative...although faster and less bloated..they presented even more bugs, freeze ups, and random issues. and YES i've been through and tried out more than enough ROMs..all Task 29ing before each ROM. i've never had so many issues with previous phones. hell i've never had to reboot previous phones period.
Windows Mobile phones are just as buggy as their desktop counterparts..Windows XP, Vista, and 7.
and you Apple hating / Iphone bashing die hard WinMO and android fans..gotta admit the specs on the new iphone 4 are pretty damn impressive. i dislike the iphone OS...even as smooth as it is. but with multitasking now implemented, HD video recording, video editing right on the phone, facetime chat, an LCD display 4x better than phones out on the market now, larger battery and longer battery life, and a tougher sturdier design instead of the curvey plastic.
i know the wifey is ditching her Blackberry Curve 8900 for the new iphone when it comes out. so i'll have a chance to play with it before making a final decision. keeping my fingers crossed for a new android phone though, or get the iphone..hang on to the tilt 2 and keep an eye out on the android porting project till it's fully functional (sound, camera, battery meter...everything) on the Rhodium, and have the best of both worlds.
till than..i'm just gonna have to put up with this phone for another couple more weeks.
See ya!
My TP2 has been running a custom rom since DAY 1 without any headaches.
If iPhone is for you, go for it. Nothing wrong with it, but for my needs it
has features I would never use. I use mine for a TELEPHONE, IM, email
a photo here and there, and the weather radar. If you are into music,
heavy video and a locked down you do what we say OS, then the iPhone
is for you.
Bugger that!!!!!! I'll take the music, heavy video and an OS that's completely customisable, easy to get apps for that don't require me to use the iphone's store and a good all round phone...
There are plenty of good, free apps available for the WM OS but using Ipstore its a bloody nightmare. Especially in Oz where the data plans generally require you to give up extranneous body parts and take out a lease with the devil on your soul...
having a rhodium, BB curve and iPhone 3G myself i have to support anyone that is switching to the iPhone.
it is by far the best device on the market... and the gap gets bigger with iP4.
there are some good points in using a BB, but the OS looks/feels like 1994 and even the 3rd party software needs you to be an all out poweruser to get used to it.
WinMo still needs a stylus. period. it looks ugly and is buggy as hell. almost nothing in WM 6.5 feels well designed/crafted. tbh, using it (including most 3rd party software) feels like using linux systems of the late 90's, but without most of the benefits.
well, i use my rhodium for business purposes, cause we have an all out MS-software system at work. but the day i get a chance to use an iphone at work (ie. the day they pay for one + the data plan), i'll switch.
android is without any use atm, but it has a high potential...maybe the highest of all current systems.
choosing a smartphone for me looks like this atm: iPhone >> BB >> WinMo > Andriod
choosing a work smartphone is a lil different: iPhone >> WinMo > BB (no Andriod)
i know there are a lot of different opinions, but this is my point of view and i have a lot of good arguments for every bit of it.
PS: WP7 will not run existing software (afaik) + wont run on any current device. the end of the WinMo platform... welcome andriod!

hi i had a htc hero and desire and an iphone 3gs ..
switched yesterday to htc hd 7 ......
i will see, if it was the right choice ...... but i dont compare these 3 os ... cause win 7 is like a baby .. verry new ..
but remembering this fact, the k
I switched from an Android phone to WP7 last week.
The main reason was speed/responsiveness of the os; I never thought android was particularly slow until I used wp7. I do miss some of the apps I had on android, but so far the speed, ease of use, and overall feel of wp7 is more important to me than any missing features.
It's only been a week, so that could change; I tend to get bored and change phones fairly often. I don't think I'd go back to Android though, I wasn't loving it. I loved the palm pre I had before my android phone, If HP puts out some sick hardware in 2011 I could be tempted to go back.
I switched from an iPhone 4 to an HTC Surround (still have the iPhone, so I can switch back and forth), and I'm very impressed with WP7. Although there's a lot missing, everything there is so detailed and polished that you don't think about what you don't have. Also, I was surprised by the quality of the screen, considering I was coming from an iPhone 4, which is widely considered to have the best smartphone screen. I didn't notice a decrease in quality, and the colors actually seem more vibrant on the HTC
My previous phones were: Nexus One, HTC Hero, Blackberry Storm 2, Nokia N900, Palm Pre, Acer Liquid, iPhone 3GS, HTC Dream. So I'm switching handsets and OSes often but I was in love with Android, now I think I'll stay with WP7 some months. At least until we get cut&paste + multitasking.
The problem is that I'm in love with the HTC HD7 and the Samsung Omnia 7 but I've got a Trophy (happy with my Trophy but I want 4").
I like the responsiveness (smooooth!) of the UI and also the multimedia capabilities + Zune Pass
im switching from android 2.1. Mainly because just want to try new platform. so far i like WP7. even with all its short comings.
One thing I personally feel is that somehow WP7 feels more like a phone, while android feels like super mini tablet. not really sure why.
I also love the speed and responsiveness of the phone. definitely better then my old android maybe. although to be honest hardware difference might also played a strong influence.
I have my Iphone 4, my Optimus 7 and an Acer Liquid. Can't stan the lag with Android so it's rarely used my Iphone 4 is used solely for my iTunes library now (basically iPod touch) but this is only due to my lazyness in switching my library to Zune. Once I do that I may just sell the iPhone. We will see after the January update.
I have the epic 4g, im switching because i dont like android and wp7 looks like something new and fun
My wife had a G1 (white) and she now has a HD7. She liked what the Win7 had to offer and Netflix was a plus for her. I had a G1 (black, rooted) and now I have a G2. Im sticking with Android because it gives me plenty of options.
I have been a Windows fans for some years, but I am now an Android user. I Tested the HD7 at a HTC roadshow last week. my feeling to WP7 is that it is far from the current standard of a smartphone. it lacks of a lot of elements to be a "all-in-one" device.
I will keep my Android for some while.
My girlfriend got a galaxy S vibrant and my buddy has a Nexus One. My other buddy has an Iphone and after playing with all those phones, I went and got a HD7.
I will not be looking back as I am a patient man and trust that MS will make those updates work for us.
I mean, they managed to save Vista right?
Switching from a Vibrant to an HD7 myself soon. I'm getting it mainly to test some applications I've been developing. But the speed and UI, as well as unified updates has pushed me over the edge.
i switch from android (samsung captivate froyo). i like to tinker with new OS. i love them all. ps, for those with so call lagging android, they don't know what they're doing. switching to wp7 from my captivate was a step down especially in apps and speed.

I had a samsung galaxy s (running 2.1, rooted, with lag fix) before switching to WP7. Granted there are a lot of things android does better than WP7, but it doesn't come close in terms of speed - even with the lag fix.
This is my opinion anyway. So in your opinion I don't know what I'm doing?

then why did I have to root and install a lag fix on my buddy's vibrant? He couldn't understand why his real android phone worked worse than my hd2 running android from the card....
well i switched last just yesterday from iphone 4 to hd7. I must say i'm very impressed. It is fresh take on any OS and for what it is worth it beats all of them hands down. Ok it doesn't future some bits and bobs but mostly they well come with an update.
I switched and I am eagerly waiting for my venue pro. going back to android from wp7 I found myself growing impatient and frustrated at android's seemingly snail pace and lack of fluidity in the ue department
the ability to try programs, the zune experience, and the overall ue experience really makes for an excellent OS and microsoft should be proud of their progress thus far
Switched from an iPhone about a week after launched, I got a new Focus. Truth be told, when I went to the AT&T store (only went because I actually lost my iPhone) I had planned to buy an iPhone 4, but decided to look over the WP7 phones in person. I'd read some reviews that praised the OS but otherwise essentially said "wait for the update," but once I got my hands on the device and was able to play with it side by side with the iPhone 4, there really was no contest, and I bought the Focus.
So far WP7 isn't perfect. I'm sure we're all aware of the obvious features missing, and the fresh, new app store is far from what Android and iOS offer. But that said, there are so many things just *right* about WP7 that I really can't complain, especially hearing that the first update coming in January should fix a lot of those minor issues.
I look at the bright side of the platform's "newness": I've got lots of goodies to look forward to. It's just like when I first got an iPhone, except faster, sleeker and far more useful
Currently an HTC Hero owner (android) planning to switch to DVP WP7 sometime next year!
currently on android (htc desire z), will switch to wp7 when there is more support for the OS. From what I've seen though, wp7 is making a lot of progress despite being in its early stages. Hope MS can give consumers an OS that will leave me with no regret when I switch over from android.

Those of you that own a Galaxy-Nexus; are you happy ?

Curious the opinion of real owners of a Galaxy-Nexus, are you happy with your purchase ? Is it your favorite Android phone of all time ? I know only the European owners can tell me about the phone, which is slightly different than the CDMA version coming to the U.S., but overall do you like the new Nexus ?
I am looking to possibly leave the U.S. carrier Sprint, I have their Galaxy S 2, rooted with nice ROM, LOVE this phone, but hate Sprint service. Last few Sprint phones my Wife and Brother have as well, the worst network this year, 3G speeds in Chicago are like 1x Edge speeds at best, texting and receiving pictures is a pain, half don't go through, dropped calls have been happening more often the last couple of months.
So I might make the switch to Verizon, everyone I know with Verizon service swear by it as being rock solid, #1 call service, no dropped calls, very solid network. I use my phone a lot for business, and need a network that is faster and more stable.
And I am a huge Android fan, owned both the Nexus-One and Nexus-S 4G, and those were my favorite Android phones at the time I owned those. But Sprint is killing me.
It's a very solid device! You won't be disappointed!
Yes.

I have had my SGN for a few days now. I got it from Expansys, who provided extremely good service in getting it to me! I am still learning how to use Android (this is my first android so it is slow learning ).
But the large, bright screen, ability to enlarge text (so my weak eyes can read it), ease of use, is a winner for me. So far, I have not run into any problems, so I am real pleased!
Extremely happy! I've been on android since getting the G1 on day one. This is by far the best device I've ever owned. You can look at all the youtube videos and reviews you want but once you get the phone in your hands you'll be blown away!
Love the device.
Hard to know whether it's ICS or the phone itself which stands out. ICS was very good on the Nexus S, but only really played with it as an SDK port. Hopefully will have chance to play with my old S when it officially gets ICS.
The screen (despite the weirdness on low brightness) is stunning, the OS is incredibly smooth and slick - it impresses me MUCH more than iOS which I've always loved for it's transitions and smoothness. Web browsing is also excellent - incredibly fast. Call and Audio quality are also excellent
The only drawback is that it's a little on the large side (sometimes hard to grab the notification bar with one hand)
I've come from the Nexus S, I'm not sure a GSII (once it gets ICS) would be much of a noticeable/fantastic upgrade though. Maybe more a sidegrade - although the shape of the GN, lack of hard/soft buttons & Screen curve do make it look massively pretty. It's also MUCH less common than the GSII & comes with pure Android - definitely a plus!
You won't be unhappy upgrading from a 2.3.x GS2 but as soon as the ICS official or custom ROM's hit it may well be a closer call!
Have had my GN for 9 days now and loving it. I have no regrets on buying it and highly enjoy both the hardware and vanilla android.
I do see what people say if the screen brightness is really low its doesn't look that great but I typically keep my screen set at 50% so its not a issue for me.
If I had to really point out a single thing that is probably the biggest drawback is the damn speaker is so quiet its basically useless unless your in a quiet environment. Driving down the highway with the music on quietly (drive a 08' bmw and its quiet inside) theres only a couple ringtones that are barely audible. My iphone speaker was loud enough to hear in all but the loudest places.
galaxy nexus
Love the screen love the size, the Chrome type browser is fantastic, however there are issues, why would you launch a new phone with no manual.Customer care at Samsung are unaware of the model of phone. The bug volume bug is now fixed but there is no flash which is ridicolous one of the primary reasons you chose android. Also the phone dialler ui is crap its all over the place and its complicated just for the sake if it.. Iam used to htc phones and in my opinion the tweak to the original ui is just the most simplistic thing to use..
I LOVE it! Especially when you can go to Wal Mart and get on a T-Mobile $30/m prepaid plan that gives you unlimited data and texts and 100 minutes with no contract, you'll end up breaking even in no time from Sprint.
It's not perfect but it's a fantastic device. Easily the best I've ever owned. Very happy with it.
I only wish they included gorilla glass. People can laugh at gorilla glass all they want but the fact for me is, my nexus already has 3 scratches on it. While my 1.5 y/o vibrant still looks brand spanking new.
Some who are coming from a GSII are disappointed. But that's really a lateral move, so otherwise, quite fantastic!
Very zippy. A great improvement over my N1 in terms of speed and function. Though I will miss the illuminated LED trackball.
What about voice/call quality!?
For example - huge improvement with a Razr over my ole' Droid Incredible.
What about the GNex?

my experience i find it better than the nexus s...
I had a galaxy s II and I enjoy the nexus more..
The Galaxy Nexus feels a lot better in the hand.. and I love the display and I particularly enjoy the lack of capacitive buttons on the front. Just staring at a 4.65" monolithic display with nothing to break up the sleek look.
Ice Cream Sandwich is really what brings it all together for me, though.. it's such a huge improvement over gingerbread.. it's hard for me to use the gmail app on gingerbread now..
This is easily the best android device I've ever owned.. even though the Galaxy S II has better specs, this device feels like it is in another league to me.
How are the network/wifi speeds? Is it 4G capable? Still trying to choose between this and the LG Optimus LTE.
I am really considering getting a Nexus to upgrade from my HTC Desire but I'm not sure if I should wait for a mobile phone with better hardware specifications (e.g. Quad-core processors) to be released if that is the case very soon or if I should just go with the Nexus.
I think it would be a big upgrade from my awesome Desire. The idea of a stock Android Google/Samsung phone makes things very exciting, as well. The only thing holding me back are the reviews going on about how the Nexus is the best Android phone on the market but isn't good enough to be a flagship phone because of it's hardware but it appears to be a wonderful device.
Did anyone here that owns a GSN come from a phone like the HTC Desire at all? I am trying to figure out this years Christmas gift to myself, you see!

UPGRADE I had an Inspire (a model up i think) and this phone is a HUGE upgrade! besides there wont be another nexus device for a good while yet so you will have less development options on them.
overall yes.
I'm looking forward to a lot of apps being updated to function on ics.
I don't get the same speeds as I was pulling on my skyrocket, but I would never know if I didn't run speedtest. My google music and everything else runs fast and smooth.
no regrets...
I'm very happy. The only bad thing abt the phone. It's written Samsung at the back...

tempted to cancel my note 7 order

Watched multiple videos comparing the snapdragon vs exynos version and the snapdragon version lags like crazy. The iPhone 7 also totally destroys it at opening apps speed. I've always had Android phones but I'm feeling very hesitant to cancel my order. I have an s6 right now and I hate it. Horrible battery, wobbly home button, and it lags etc. I'm not sure I trust Samsung anymore. Seems the note 7 has the same horrible ram management issues. I called Verizon and spent $200ish to upgrade to the note 7 and they want me to send in my s6. What a mess. I already ordered a case and screen protector. I'm just not sure what to do now.
My (snapdragon) replacement is working great and I am not worried if iphone opens an app a millisecond before my note 7. I haven always had android and always will.
I just purchase what fits my needs regardless of brand or OS. In general I dislike Apple at present as the screen tech is lagging so far behind not to mention its even 200€ MORE than the Note 7. I use the S-pen so the Note is for me on this occasion.

get the device that makes you feel proud, happy, and overly satisfied, thats it, I would never feel fine with a girlish looking iphone crap

Here's something odd. I got one of the first of AT&T's first batch on August 14th. I exchanged it today for a green battery replacement. Configured the exact same way the new one is noticeably smoother and snappier. The previous phone would get jaggy when scrolling and transitioning every once in a while but not regularly. It had the latest update AT&T pushed out after launch (itself an iteration ahead of T-Mobile) which is the same firmware that came pre-installed on the new one. The only difference was the 132ishMB update that made the battery green which I installed right after getting the new phone. So either: A) something I did configuring my old phone slowed it down, B) there's a h/w or s/w difference between the two, or C) there's more to the 132ishMB update than turning the battery green. Regardless I'm even happier than I was with the original death defying phone.
Let me try to help here.
Ill go over my device history quickly.
I started with pdas in 2003 and then windows mobile. I was using an HTC Kaiser when the first Iphone came out.
I switched to Android with the HTC Desire in early 2010. I have mainly been an HTC guy since then with the Desire HD, One V, S, X, One M7, M8 then M9. I have had other devices as back up phones.
My son had a Nexus 4, HTC M8, and now a Nexus 6p
My Wife had an Iphone4 and Ipad 2 then discovered Android with the S3. She upgraded to the Note 4 when it came out. I bought my Mother in Law the Note 5.
My first Tablet was the original Samsung 10.1 then the Nexus 7 and now Nexus 9. I use an Ipad at work as an "EFB" (electronic flight bag). That is what we use for all manuals and plates. I fly the Airbus for Air Canada.
So yeah, I'm a big techie an a "fan of technology". I have mainly been an HTC fan but have experience with numerous other brands including Nexus handsets and Tablets. I feel I am qualified to give an opinion as I am fairly unbiased. Okay, that's not quite true. I am a huge HTC fanboy (who is currently using a Note 7).
So, why did I switch? I'll tell you.
1. Screen size.
Yup, biggest point.
2. Screen quality
Nothing beats Samsung here. I prefer my M7 screen to my M8 or M9 truthfully (colour accuracy) but the Note series (or Samsung in general) beats the Nexus 6p.
3. S pen
My Wife doesn't use hers. I have missed mine since retiring my last stylus phone the HTC Touch (Vogue). Loving it again.
4. Camera
Not the best, but the most consistent. Anand Tech's latest review said the M10 beats the S7 and Note 7 but hey, not by enough of a margin for me.
So, why didn't I wait for the Pixel phone? Quite frankly 5.7 inches of full on screen (no software buttons) makes a huge difference over 5.5. Also, I am willing to bet screen quality is better. Did I mention the S pen?
What do I miss? Well HTC has nailed touch response. The M7 was good, the M9 was the best. The Note 7? Meh. Not bad at all but HTC has it beat. And....Sense. Touchwiz has grown up, but sometimes the changes feel like change for the sake of change. No thought behind why. Sense just makes sense.
But, I love the Note 7. Hands down the best smartphone I have ever had. I am thoroughly enjoying it and I am sure you will to.

I'm loving it.. Seriously... I'm already getting more than 6 hours SOT first charge.... Amazing huh? No lag whatsoever and hadn't got got at all... Even while charging and being on Skype video for an hour. I haven't even disabled any bloatedware yet. There is an update ready though. I hope that doesn't mess anything up.

Or D) the old and new phones are the same (apart from the battery), and a small number of both batches have lag problems for yet-unidentified reasons. You could have gotten one of the bad ones first time, but the second one was good (as the odds favored it to be).
I had a serious UI-lag problem with my first phone too, but not with the replacement so far. It did take a few days for the problem to show up on the first one, so I'm not ready to celebrate quite yet.

Numerous people have said this.
I still have both and decided to rapidly open and close apps using multitasking, copy and paste etc. I have done this same "test" many times comparing HTC models to one another.
I can subjectively (because jamming with ones fingers is far from scientific) say touch response is the same. Apps seem to open the same but general UI speed seem more "fluid" with snappier animations. Also, I have yet to suffer keyboard lag in the second. The first would manifest itself if say Showbox was downloading videos while responding to a text etc. None here.
Some tips beyond the regular developer options and changing animations to 0.5. Use package disabler pro and disable that cheesy cheetah mobile interface (device maintenance). You will have stock battery and storage options, and the entire UI speeds up.
And before anyone asks, device maintenance was enabled on both and developer options stock settings for my "test".
Edit: received my new phone on the 15th so more than enough time for "lag" to kick in.
Edit2: Barry I quoted you but the tips are obviously for the OP.
