Hey guys. I'd really love to see a guide out there that walks you through building from source for the i747. I've looked around and found a good post by Android here, but I believe this is made for the nexus. It would be extremely helpful for people to have a good guide!

ROM compiling is fairly similar for all devices. There are plenty Samsung TouchWiz guides too. Search!

Did a search on Developing EVO ROMs and all I came up with were ROMs for the EVO. Any sites I can look at that will guide me in developing a ROM?

I searched for it on google. I suggest looking through those and see what you can find. It may be a mixed bag. Also anything you want to know you can find between google and youtube. Learned how to change my own oil and drop a transmission form there.

Thanks. I saw a link on what you posted that didn't come up when I searched. Don't know why but I was searching for just the evo and all it did was come up with roms posted on xda.
i take it you didnt search hard enuff. there is no difference in developing a rom for the evo or any other android phone. the princiables r the same.
heres some good reading for you that was posted right here on xda

Hey guys,
I thought I might get the ball rolling and throw a post up here. Was a Samsung Vibrant user before I got my SGS-II on Friday. The AIO Vibrant Toolbox became an invaluable tool for flashing/rooting/stock-flashing/etc. my Vibrant. Was wondering if anyone was working on developing the same tool for the SGS-II?
If the source is available anywhere, I wouldn't mind taking a look at it myself with one of my buddies. I'm a wireless test engineer for an Android Device that's in development and we've worked on some android housekeeping/downloading/utilities software over the past few months. Wouldn't mind trying to contribute to the XDA Community.
Either way, I think it would be awesome to have something like this with the inevitable torrent of ROMs/Mods/Roots and such that will be coming.

IDK about you, but it seems pretty clear to me that he wants the source for the Toolbox, not the phone...
Thanks, downloading that now.
What about the binaries/source for the Vibrant Tool? I know I might have to check the Vibrant forums for this, but if anyone on here is a Vibrant Migrant like I am and happens to have/know the location of the original source for it, that would be awesome.
Thanks in advance.

You're right, that was what I was actually looking for. Doesn't hurt to have a link of the SGH-T989 source readily available though either.

Sorry about that. Still half asleep. lol.
Hey guys, I posted this under android development a while back and it didn't get any attention. I was wondering if any of you could recommend me to a website or video series on learning to develop for android. I have some knowledge in Java and I want to start developing for android.
Thanks!

I'm sure there may be videos. But i used the tutorials given by google on the android dev site like the hello world tutorial and others. And if you just google android app dev tutorials you get enormous amounts of tutorials on how to write apps such as layouts, splash screens, etc. It took me about a week to get something basic going and 1-2 months to get something a little more complex. But i had a bit of college code courses. I just consumed every tutorial out there is the only way to really get it.
Thanks, but unfortunately i am in the 8th grade and at my level there is not much in the way of courses at my public schools.do you have any other sites you might recommend? I will defiantly check out the "android dev site" as well.
thanks again!
Well i only had one class of c++, but it helped tremendously. You can research online for equivalent help. Its a lot of work though. Honestly i read a million tutorials, there wasnt one single site. Just start reading everything you see is the only way. It will be sliw and tough at first but will get better quickly. Just install eclipse from android dev, then follow the hello world tutorial and install your first written app to your phone. Its very easy.
This list might help:

Thanks, I've had eclipse and made simple apps (simple counter app) for android but I wanted to further my knowledge.
Thanks for your help everyone!

Hello P930 Devs,
Thank you for the great work so far. Things seams to be pretty stagnant for our phone waiting for CM9 stable and official ICS release.
A little background. I work for a PCB assembly shop and stumbled upon the AOKPCB ROM reading through other device's forums on XDA. I would love to port this ROM to our phone however I have no knowledge or experience to do this.
I was wondering if one of you would be willing to take this up as a project? I would be very grateful and will help in any way I can. Or hold my hand while I try and do this myself (I have no idea where to start ).
I've also contacted the ROM's team for support.
Thank you in advance for anyone willing to help.
Already supported LG devices:
LG Optimus 2X (p990)
LG G2x (p999)

Thanks NO!NO!. It's good to know that some work has been done for the AOKP on our phones. However it seams that that thread/ROM hasn't had any activity in a while.
I would love to pick up where they left off. However, as I mentioned before I'm not a developer and have no idea where to start but I am willing to learn.
I am getting the hang of android but after the last 7 years with RIM im out of touch. A lot of options when upgrading and using custom roms, kernels etc.
If someone would be so kind as to help me out over PM? I have a couple and probably fairly simple to all you guys. Yes I've done lots of reading and searched the forums. Been a member for awhile.
Thx guys
