Hey all,
Need some help figuring this out. Im running TN ics goodness, no matter which version or kernal i get about double the awake time as screen on time. Cpu spy doesnt always agree with the sys battery stats for awake time. Also, better battery stats doesnt highlight a certain problem, although i havent researched much on reading the wakelocks and process stats.
Where should i start? What can i post to get some help?
Look for apps syncing, and when wifi is on I find my phone stays awake more, and thats with all syncs off even.
Also there are so many things that can cause wake locks, I even stopped using tegrak on ics ( several reasons) but it kept cpu on about 2% more. Some apps you may not use everyday may also do this. Its hard to narrow it down 100%.

I'm getting a major battery drain from a kernel Wakelock, and I cannot figure out how to fix it. I've tried reinstalling the ROM, to no avail. Using Eclipse.

I have the exact same 7 causing all kinds wakelocks over the last week. I've tried everything to try and figure out what the hell is causing it to no avail. If you figure it out, please let me know! I'm begining to think it was an update to an app that started causing this to happen (even though no apps are shown)
try disabling autosync and see if it works,non gsm version?

Power manager service is a combination of all wakelocks in userland, meaning it combines all wakelocks caused by you (music, phone calls...etc), the others (minus alarm rtc which I'm not sure of) are all related to having the phone USB mounted which I'm assuming you have.

I don't know what USB mount means, but why would there be a wakelock for usb when the phone is not connected to a usb cord?
Also, I've tried turning off sync, and the phone still has severe drain. It randomly fluctuates between losing less than 1%/hr to 6%/hr+, even when the phone is idle and sitting in the same place. I've noticed that there are quite a few times when the phone is awake, even though my screen is off and I'm not using it.
If this is an app causing the problem, how do I diagnose the issue? Shouldn't it be showing up in "battery" under settings or as a specific wakelock in Better Battery Stats. I used to easily get 2 hrs of screen time on CDMA LTE, but now I'm lucky if I can get 80 minutes.
I thought it might be the battery itself, so I went out and bought a new one. That was a waste - same issue.
Any insights?

I think I finally fixed my issue. I don't know exactly what it was but it had something to due with the following: Open Latitude and sign out (apparently I was logged back in after the last maps update), kill facebook everytime I close it (keeps way too many services open even though I don't have it to sync), enabled and disabled sync, bt, gps, 4g, uninstalled voodoo mods, re-disabled maps from autostarting, made sure I was logged out of talk, and also logged out of google +, some combination of the above fixed it for me.
I'm willing to bet it was a combination of maps, talk, latitude, and facebook since I tried most of the other things prior to the above. I updated maps and facebook the same day so it could be either of those.
None of those are the issue for me. I completely switched out my ROM and went down to a barebones number of apps. Still having a major issue with the exact same kernel wakelocks. I literally did not touch my phone overnight, and it still lost quite a bit of battery.
How come nobody seems to know what the wakelocks mean from my screenshot posting? This is impossible to diagnose.

having the same issue. My battery life would be nearly ideal without this wakelock and the "modem_usb_gpio_wake" problem using up the battery. Using AOKP build 35 with lean kernel
Is this not the correct forum to post in? This question has been asked numerous times with the Galaxy Nexus, but nobody had given a solution.
My phone drain is terrible with these kernel wakelocks, but nothing fixes it. I've tried numerous other kernels with the same result. I've killed all my apps. I'm stumped.
What could possibly be causing this out of the blue?

Recently, I updated my Galaxy Nexus to 4.1.1.
I found that the battery drains. Battery level went down 1% per minute.
I did not meet this problem when I was using 4.0.4
How should I fix this problem?

Hmm.. same here. Battery Life was better on ICS, that I agree. But JB is really awesome! Anyway, about your problem, I suggest making sure you kill your apps more frequently (Going into MultiTasking and just sliding them all away). This seemed to help me.
I have been trying to figure this out for days. I've read countless threads with no luck. I've got no mhaic , videos or pictures on my phone and its still using a lot of battery. Willing to offer bounty for a proper fix

Just the worst advice ever. You don't need to manage your tasks. If you've got an app misbehaving that's causing drain, you need to uninstall it and use something that's coded properly.

Well that's true. Sorry if I said it wrong. But yes, some apps are coded horribly like Facebook and cause terrible battery drain. So, just uninstall it.

I don't own this device but my battery was draining so fast and I flashed ,, pimp my rom,, and battery lasts for about 2 days (earlier it was barely 1 day)

Search the forums and download better battery stats - you can also purchase the paid version from the play store - Run that for a day or so and it will tell you what is eating your battery.
Also, some more information (screen captions, your 'average' use, ROM, Kernel, etc) could help this thread a bit as well.
If you have a rogue app that is causing drain, better battery stats will help you find it.
After I got a program which tests mp3 files and removed all which had errors the media scanning stopped going on forever and killing the battery. I don't know which program off hand but I bet there are several free pc apps to test mp3's online.

This does not kill apps. It merely removes them from the Recent Apps list. If you want to kill apps, you have to go to the Apps manager in settings and force stop. Or use apps that offer such functionality like Android System Info.

I also have this issue, but force stopping the medisscanner (or related apps) resolves it temporarily. I'll try the mp3 validation suggestion
Solving of Battery drain Issue
Please check on your device on app which using most of the battery. I used GSam Battery Monitor so that it will shown me the most usage of apps consuming the battery. Just tap on it, tap "manage" then tap on "Force stop".
This accually required on every charge, restart or playing / downloading a media files. Some people suggest clear data on media storage, however, it clear all your custom ringtone and others too. By doing Force stop, nothing will be affected....

Hey guys, I was getting terrible battery life when the phone is idle. I looked into it to see what was going on. First off, I am on the stock rooted deodex'd ROM that scrosler posted. The biggest problem was an app I installed called Light Flow Lite, it controls your LED. It had over 6 hours of wakelock today. Removed it, not worth it at all.
The second thing I found that was interesting was after that, the phone STILL wasn't hitting deep sleep. I poked around in BetterBatteryStats and didn't find anything in there that would explain that. I then ran a "top" (in terminal or adb shell, type top -m 5 -t). Everything looked normal, nothing crazy. But I turned the screen off and let it run for a few seconds. I got a massive spike in CPU (anywhere from 15-35%) for system_server with the thread "WindowManagerPo" (which is likely short for WindowManagerPolicy).
I did some searching and it turns out that there is a bug with auto rotation that causes this. Essentially, the sensors don't stop looking for orientation change when the screen is off. I found reports of this in the Nexus S forums, GS3 forums, etc. This leads me to believe it is a Samsung kernel issue, since that's the least common denominator when it comes to the phones that had this issue. If you don't use auto rotation, you probably aren't encountering this issue (but keep reading for some good info below!) But I use auto rotation, how can I fix this?
Download an app called Auto Rotate Auto Lock. This app will turn off auto rotation when your screen turns off and enable it back when you turn the screen back on. This looks like this should really help to combat this bug and it handy for people like me who like auto rotation but don't want to have battery life suffer from something as stupid as this. I have verified that my phone now does enter Deep Sleep easily, and it hadn't hit that all day!
I also recommend an app called CPU Spy Plus (XDA thread). This app shows some very valuable information about your processor. You never want to see "Deep Sleep" under Unused CPU States as this means your phone isn't sleeping and is wasting battery!
It would also be good to download BetterBatteryStats (XDA Thread). This will help you nail down battery drain that you won't see in the stock Battery graph found in Settings. Things or importance are Partial Wakelocks and Alarms.
Monitoring these apps can really help you to increase your battery life on your phone. If anyone else is having bad battery life when idle, please try this out. I'm sure this will help you Feel free to ask questions, I will try to answer them as best as I can!
I have autorotation turned on but not the face orientation sensing. I haven't noticed a significant battery loss, at 19 hours with 10 left according to battery spy, but I'll give this a try and see if it increases it any.
i'll give it a shot. i was wondering how at work it would drain 2-4% an hour but at home with a crappy signal i'd only lose 6% all night.
at work it's in my pocket and at home it's stationary.

I have noticed Google Talk drains batteries when your signed in. By default your phone will sign in. If you don't use TALK, sign-out of the app and you will see increased battery life. Your wont ping the internet as much which saves batteries.

I haven't tried that app yet, however I have definitely noticed an improvement in battery life by disabling auto rotation. Thanks for the info.

after a bit of troubleshooting i found that battery monitor widget pro was the cause of my drain. after removing it i went from 2 to 3% an hour to 3% overnight. this really sucks as i love the info bmw colleects. this is the only device i have that suffers drain from the app.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have heard so much about the great battery life, but that has not been my experience. I had a Note 1 and I had no problems. With Note 2, the battery drains to about 1/4 after about 7 hours with limited use. I have turned off auto rotation, lowered the screen brightness, changed auto check settings for email, and don't see much difference. In addition, it seems a shame that I should have to figure out ways to use fewer functions to make battery last for phone calls, since I never had to do that before. Any ideas?
Thank you for this info. I consistently get a full days charge of of my phone but was pretty clueless when it came to what was draining my battery. I've used the rotation lock app and will report my results to see if I get even more remaining battery each day.

As viperboy mentioned, BetterBatteryStats is your friend. It really will help you figure out why your phone isn't sleeping like it should. It definitely takes some time to monitor and figure out what the readings mean to help point you to the apps or settings that're affecting your battery, but well worth it. I also like having a better understanding of how things work on my phone.
i did a double check on battery monitor widget pro and it started draining my phone again. as soon as i uninstalled it everything was fine again. this is with both cleanrom and blazer. i'll just wait til official support comes and try it again.

Have you tried the Perseus kernel? I hear the battery life is improved with it. So may be it doesn't have the rotate issue.
I've been using cpu sleeper and I easily get about 30 hours. Looks like the new apk fixed quad core. So when the phone is off it only uses one core and shuts down the other three and lights them back up when you need them.

That app is unnecessary. Pegasusq governor already does that by default. Goes to 1 core and 200mhz when screen off, at least that's how my Note 10.1 was. I assume it is the same here since the International GS3, GN 10.1, and GNII basically share the same kernel with a few minor differences.
I think I may try the perseus kernel today to see if it improves battery.. I haven't heard it does.. I just been seeing people do that benchmark stuff with it

Interesting... I have a script that reports on CPU freq and, when plugged into USB (maybe the wall charger too, didn't check), it appears that the kernel runs cpu0 and cpu3 all the time, even when screen off. With the phone unplugged, it went to using only cpu0 but didn't cap the freq. It was spending a good amount of time at the higher frequencies even though I had nothing running.

I installed the app to turn the rotation off when the screen is off so far everything good but when I get a call this goes crazy because the screen goes while in call. I know this because I have an smartwatch which it has a notification app and every message that the phone has my watch vibrates with that message and I had a call few minutes ago my watch started vibrating non stop until I hang up.

First time I see it today, so I searched and I see you have the same problem.
Today is the first day I've been on 3G (no LTE in my area) all day, with WiFi disconnected, and BetterBatteryStats shows FastDormancy and mdm_hsic_pm0
Causally related? I am fairly sure FastDormancy is causally related to the 3g stuff, but not sure about mdm_hsic_pm0 - it's possible?
I'm on the i317M, though, so maybe that could help us troubleshoot.
Yes, I have indeed seen other reports of mdm and FastDormancy occurring simultaneously, but I don't have FastDormancy at all.
I have been unable to find any info on mdm since this post. There are a couple threads like this on other forums, so far none with answers though. It appears it is occurring with the GS3, as well.
If anyone else has any info, it would be much appreciated....

I am getting the same thing which is driving me nuts. I loose more battery overnight while sleeping then during the day when I sporadically use my device due to this.

i'm having this wakelock as well. can't find any information on it...anyone else?
People are saying in another thread that it's the "l2 hsic" for jellybean and it has to do with charging. One possible solution is to wake phone and go to home screen before unplugging charger. Also pulling battery for a couple minutes may help.

i still have this wakelock and cant figure out what is causing it...
I Disabled Fast Dormancy and that wake lock disappeared.
I'm not sure if we can get rid of the mdm_hsic_pm0 one.

Just a hunch, this might have something to do with location or GPS. My wakelock with this doubled with GPS on for the day. While I had roughly the same amount of wakelocks from the Google maps location updaters.

any update on this? Recently happend to me and i went from 38 hours battery life to 18. Now granted yes thats still good. Nonetheless i want this to stop.
I am getting this same wakelock and it's seriously getting on my nerves. My phone rarely ever gets to enter deep sleep because of this. Is this related to certain ROMs or is it effecting all note IIs?

Hey guys I'm from the Verizon Note 2. I actually made a search on Google this morning and it led me hear. I recently noticed a decrease in my battery life and seem to have the same problem as you guys, mine only caused about 35mins of wake time yesterday but if we could remove it the better for all of us.
There's also stuff I'm not really aware of if I can freeze or trash it all together. I'm new to this battery stats app. I added other pictures of possible stuff killing my battery, it seemed ebay mobile was a contender as well so i trashed it lol. I'm also on a custom ROM.

Probably the single.best thing you can do for your battery is to get. Google maps to stop reporting your location all day.
Go into the settings of Maps and disable reporting, unless you need it for something of course.

Which as far as I can tell has nothing to do with this specific wakelock, which sometimes causes my phone to never go into deep sleep.
Yes, maps is obnoxious and causes plenty of its own wakelocks, but if mdm_hsic_pm0 is keeping my phone awake 100% of the time it's pretty irrelevant.
