Added unlimited wifi free minutes - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Correct me if I'm wrong but I was looking at all the services available under my account and saw an option to add free unlimited wifi minutes. I was already using wifi calling but that was using my allotted minutes. This one particularly says
"T-Mobile Free Wi-Fi Calling gives you unlimited Wi-Fi minutes, unlimited high speed data and when travelling internationally free calls back to the USA – all at no additional cost."

Thanks for confirming as I was not finding a lot of info on it. I was able to add it via mytmobile app and it looks like it can be done online as well. Wifi calling isn't the best audio quality but having limited 500 min this will help a lot.

I wish we could get this on prepaid. I only have a 100 mins..

Lol yeah...I have no reception where I live with any of the carriers so wifi calling saves my butt...and can't complain when its free!

Hi!
What voice/calling plan to you currently have? The reason why I am asking this question is because I was told from an account specialist that I could get the free unlimited wifi calling feature and upon making subsequent phone calls (because I was using up my minutes) to T-Mobile, I was told that my grandfathered plan (1000 minutes plus nights and weekends) is not compatible with the free wifi unlimited calling feature. Thanks!

Same here but oh well, I'm not complaining. Maybe it's a special promotion for our phones because when I first got this phone I got the "caller id" service free for the first few days.

I have this too. I had to call in to get free wifi calling as the online system wanted me to change my plan completely. Some crazy stuff. But I called and it was added in within minutes.

does anyone know if the wifi calling includes international calls?

It's free only if we are outside the US calling a US number.
Billing
There is no additional monthly charge to use the Wi-Fi Calling feature on your handset. Wi-Fi Calling uses monthly plan minutes for the following:
Calls made from the US to US numbers
Calls made from the US to international numbers (subject to international rates)
Calls made from outside the US to US numbers (not charged roaming)
Calls made from outside the US to international numbers (subject to international rates, but not charged roaming)
Note: You must disable Data Roaming when traveling internationally to avoid incurring data roaming charges.

The free unlimited wifi calling (which doesn't use your allotted minutes) nor the regular wifi calling (uses your allotted minutes) does not include free international calls. However the free unlimited wifi calling allows you to call any US numbers for free when you are outside the US(see OP).

Tethering root and data cap

So I know it really isn't unlimited data and its only 5gb cap but does that include wireless tethering for root users
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Don't know where you got that info but it most definitely is unlimited, there is no 5GB cap.
There is no cap, and Sprint doesn't know about your tethering provided you're using a Market app.

Well it using the 3g data even if its a market app and I've read numerous times about the 5gb data cap they just put in place if u google it. It says 4g is unlimited but 3g is 5gb
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
i went well over 20gigs this month using 3g and my bill was still the same... no throttling either. your fine.
There is NO cap for 3g/4g on Sprints network at all. There are people using 11GB+ a month with no overage fees(I am not one of them). There is how ever a roaming cap of 300MB.
And one more thing since I'm on a family plan I got a call asking how I already used 1gb and that we now have a 5gb data cap its all over google.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Would you be so kind as to link us to where this claim is made? I googled it and everything I found says unlimited, including Sprint's website.

nope, they did have a typo on sprint's website that said that but it was changed a long time ago. If they wanted to they could easily find out if you are tethering though.
The 5gb on 3g cap is for the data cards that you plug into a computer this does not apply to sprint phones now at&t & verizon....

as far as I can tell, its all unlimited, I had one month with almost 3gbs of roaming, no extra charge
There is no limit on 3G or WiMax data usage.
The sole limitations are as follows:
1) Your roaming data usage cannot be larger than your on-Sprint data usage, or else you will incur fees.
2) We will all smack you if you get ridiculous data usage, and Sprint then turns around and increases prices for unlimited data plans and/or eliminates unlimited data plans because of bandwidth hogs like you.
+1 There is ABSOLUTELY NO cap on phone data, only the broadband cards. I went through this last week with customer support then decided to ask our Sprint rep at Best Buy to confirm. The phone plan has absolutely no cap and if you use wifi tether they cant tell anything besides your phone is using data.
For anyone else wanting to argue this, hop on Live Chat with Sprint and verify
There may be a cap if he has a family plan. The $10 that every Evo owner used to moan about entitles us to no cap. However, Sprint has confirmed that any phone that doesn't pay this charge, including data cards, will be capped.
If his family is all on one plan, and only he has the Evo, they may be capping him somewhere.

works great with the new KL1 update. WiFi calls also have much better voice quality.
Go into my.t-mobile.com, under manage go to change services and you should see the WiFi calling option under extra minutes.
When I bought mine this weekend, they gave me unlimited WiFi-calling for free with my plan. I was a new customer as well. Got the 500 minute Value plan with 5GB of data.

I'm glad they are advertising it. Unlimited WiFi calling minutes is a great deal for us and T-Mobile (offloads the local towers, we get free minutes)
Didn't advertize it. I went in not expecting to get it and the sales person was like "So I added free unlimited wifi calling..." and I was like score, and then double score today when I saw the OTA update was being distributed. My bedroom is in the basement of my house, so this is a great feature for me. Verizon would drop my calls, or just make me completely impossible to understand to the other end of the line all the time.
T-Mobile has been the best in-store experience I've had so far between it, Sprint and Verizon.
Bought my phones a month ago and I couldn't add it online. I ended up chatting with a CS representative and they added it.
Now the wait for the ROMs begins. C'mon JUGGERNAUT!
Unfortunately, doesn't seem to be available on the Wal-mart prepaid plan.

Sprint isn't really unlimited

I just got a call from sprint customer service warning me that they were going to cut me off if I didn't stop tethering.... I did it once to allow my dad to use his laptop to take care of his bills while he is recovering from a triple bypass.. once in 6 months and I get called and warned.. talk about tight! Gimme a break sprint! What a joke! I was deciding between sprint and AT&T when I got my s3 so I may just go that route anyway if Sprint are going to be that ridiculous about it... just a fair warning. ... I was using foxfi with a Bluetooth tether to do it. Whatever you do... don't tether like that or Sprint will call and threaten you...

What this guy said. The official tether option is considered a add-on, not included in your unlimited data.
Unlimited data only covers the data going to phone not to another device.
I guess you didn't read your tos agreement.

Might be something with that certain program or bluetooth. I've tethered to the Nexus 7 for 300+MB games, and even whole movie downloads prior with the wifi tether options listed here on xda and never had any issues. What the other say is correct though, the plan does only cover unlimited data to the phone.
Fun times either way, thanks for the heads up !
Sprint is Unlimited if you follow the TOS you agreed to.

While Sprint CEO Dan Hesse appeared at Citi’s Entertainment, Media and Telecommunications conference Thursday to talk up Sprint’s new LTE plans, he let slip a change in Sprint’s data policies that could have a big impact on iPhone and other smartphone customers lured in by Sprint’s unlimited plans. Hesse acknowledged that Sprint has been throttling back speeds to the 1 percent heaviest consumers of smartphone data. While technically, the service is still unlimited, the admission leaves egg on Hesse’s face since he’s criticized the competition for adopting similar data restrictions in the past.

AIO wireless is the best bang for the buck

So I switched to aio wireless a couple months back. Prepaid service owned by att. It is the only service out there using att signal and Lte that actually gives you what you pay for. Aiowireless.com
The plans and pricing is straightforward
$55/month for 2gb Lte speed then true unlimited throttled after.
If you need more data you can easily add either one time purchases of $10/gb extra. Or you can add it as a permanent add on. 1gb extra a month for $10 on top of the 50 dollar base.
i think the best deal though is the aio pro plan for $70 you get 7gb
I personally have a monthly order of 8gb for $80. My company pays for $60/month. So I pay $20.
The customer service and support is the easiest and the best I've ever encountered. For instance they have an app that let's you overview your whole account, usage, add or change your plan, and a chat feature that instantly connects you to an aio rep. And they are ridiculously helpful and friendly.

It's a small thing.. But when i get close to running out of high speed.. They send me a text message.. And they don't tell me how I can add more gbs or give them more money.. They suggest I use wifi. Its small.. But its like they aren't trying to get you to give them more money.
I'm an extremely happy customer. I recommend it to anyone who has att coverage. And doesn't want a contract.
Anybody out here have aio already can share their experience?

Yeah but they throttle at around 1.5GB. This AIO $55 dollar plan is 2GBs.
Thanks vandam. Its true I got around 1.5gb before they more or less cut me off completely.

Been on Straight talk, Go Phone and now AIO Wireless. Gotta say I prefer Aio of the three.
Straight Talk: Cheapest(45$) 1.5 gb of data after that your slow as hell, Also don't count on customer support being there.
AT&T Go Phone: Most expensive ($60) Two gigs of data after that have to purchase 1gb at 10$. Good customer service. (con was most apps for at&t service don't work) Had to use texting option to check data usage, no visual voice mail, etc
Aio Wireless: (55$ a month 2gb of data after that your slowed down but have the option to speed back up for 1gb for 10$) Best customer support also visual voice mail and a account app to check data usage.

Well it really depends on the user straight talk is offering lte and throttles data after 2.5 gigs and it's 45 dollars and tax comes to 48 but you don't have the option to add more gigs like aio wireless and there are plenty of apps in the play store to monitor data usage or just go to setting and set the limit yourself it really comes done to the person and how much there willing to spend. So to say one better than the other is basically opinion and not really fact.

I recently moved from Verizon Wireless to AIO for my Nexus 5. The speeds I get is ~4mb down ~2mb up in the area I am located in. With the 3 days I've been with them, I am so far pleased. Great coverage so speeds aren't really bugging me that much.
The only thing I have found annoying is I have to manually enter my own APN settings to get data to work. I've attempted to create my own update.zip along with other user's zip's and has not work. (Chronic rom flasher).

Tmobile throttle unlimited data hogs starting August 17th

http://www.engadget.com/2014/08/13/t-mobile-cracks-down-on-data-abusers/
Seems like it won't affect people using a vpn, since it's all routed through 1 ip and it doesn't seem like they are determining this by how much, but if they detect you using torrent apps and things like that. Still alot of the changes T-Mobile are making lately seem to be anti consumer, ie Jump not being every 6 months anymore, trying to do away with corporate plans before the backlash, raising prices on plans, and now this. It's making me want to jump to prepaid honestly.
Tmobiles throttle is ridiculous too. Im talking slower then 1x. Ive been throttled 3 times now in the past year and the max download speed for all 3 times was .15mbps and yes you read that correctly and I typed it correctly. POINT ONE FIVE Mbps for download and thats on LTE and HSPA
