Hey, just wanted to say hi to my new classmates. Just traded my Photon4G for an Epictouch. I would also like to ask yall to help me out with getting all the goodies on my phone. I am naive with sammy(ODIN). Ive only own HTC(RUU) and Motorola(SBF). If you have the time to link me to root,CWM and the best Rom in your opinion I'll return the favor by hitting the thank button. No need to be a jerk and ask me read. Thanks.

One things for sure, you'll never have to worry about different bootloader versions, degrading or anything. Odin will let you go to any damn version you please
Ok im rooted One question...I'm on EL29 and to install CWM following the guide you provided it only includes EL30,FB17 and a couple others. Which one do I odin to?

Look for the EL29 restore thread. After the restore instructions are instructions and a link for the EL29 kernel repacked with CWM. Sorry xda app is fc'ng when I try to copy the link. Stay away from ROM manager and CWM touch recovery. If you're going to flash cm9 make sure you flash cm7 from Rootzwiki first to get the original CWM recovery.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Also, if coming back from ICS to GB use sfhub's EL29 restore method. It's the safest way to revert and you can restore a GB nandroid once you reinstall the repacked EL29 kernel.

Be very careful when you come back from ICS to a non ICS rom. Many bricks have occurred! Read the instructions good.
Good choice on ditching the photon and coming to the good side!

If you are just starting out I highly recommend that you follow qbking77's work he will help you with his video tutorials. I owe that man my life lol.
Just got mine today -- had my NS4G stolen last week and had the option to switch, so I did.
I just need to get away from Touchwiz. As far away from Touchwiz as possible. May throw AOKP on as I'm familiar (used it on NS4G and also on GT10.1).
Any other suggestions?

Do NOT flash new ICS Leak, you will brick. We have had one hard-brick/hardware issue (don't know which one). I repeat do not flash. I myself encountered 8 soft bricks.
Anyone with a confirmed working flash out there?

Wait not all sr roms work with your phone? Why not? Every rom should. But if there is a difference between your phones, i suggest holding out. I am not sure if your phone shares the same compatibility like how ours and telus are the same. But anyways, you guys should definitely wait before jumping the gun.

I've been around for a bit from the tmo dash to the touch pro to the evo and soon to the epic touch. I have a few questions which i hope some of.you can help me with. Does this have the same weak radios and horrible battery of the ns4g? And what's with all these build numbers fh this and that? What would changing the modem do? Is cwm still the most popular recovery? And finally, it has ics on it so will I be able to root?
I have been trying to read but I'm getting confused. I was able to only update the radios, rom and kernel now there are all these options.
Thanks in advance for any useful info

Just look for the newest one download the .zip and flash through recovery. It all depends were u live radios r different for every phone a new modem might not work as good as a old one so just download a couple and which works better.

I got this from a friend who is getting an iPhone. He just had his S2 replaced like a month ago so I get a new phone for cheap. Im holding out my upgrade for a quadcore phone. I refuse to go with the LG only because I dont think the developer or factory support will be there. This should make my wait more bearable with my huge leap from NS4g.
I have jelly bean right now with everything working ok (except the massive battery drain) on my NS4G. Anything close to that on this phone? How is the developer support? Im coming from a phone with ok support and maybe like 3 choices that are updated consistantly.
Yes all modems are compatible with any rom and we have cm10 and aokp versions of jellybean. The brick issues are much much less now that we developers have identified the problem and made safe recoveries. Don't flash anything in stock recovery.
I'm new to the gs3 just moved on from the HTC sensation. I have a question. Can we use the same roms from the international gs3 on this one? Sorry if this has been asked just couldn't find it

No

Only flash ROMs made for the specific carrier. If you flash an international ROM onto a T-Mobile galaxy s3, your phone will be hard bricked and the only way to unbrick it is to get it JTAG'd, which can cost around 60$.

U can't flash any of the international version roms, but the stateside variants are flashable..
sent from GS3 disguised as a GNote2
most ATT roms should be directly compatible with little effort for our tmo GS3. However, do not flash an ATT modems, that will brick your phone for sure.
I also recommend you use TWRP, seems to be less issues with it. good luck and welcome
I suggest you stick to flashing only what you find in this forum. At least until you have had time to get used to your new device. You will run into quite a few conflicting reports on what does or doesn't work well with this phone. Give it time and you will figure out for yourself which are right and which are wrong.
We have plenty of roms and a number of ports from the other carriers so it really shouldn't be necessary to go flashing anything from somewhere else.
Use the other forums for reference, ideas, and learning more about your phone. If you find a mod or app you want to try, just ask if your not confident about it.
Good luck and welcome!
Oh, just fyi, the reports about the i9300 and i9305, are correct! Do NOT flash any roms or mods built for those! Guaranteed Brick!!

Hey guys. I have an altell galaxy s2 and i have absolutely no idea why this thing is still running 2.3.6. As far as i can tell, its most similar to the epic touch 4G. Im just wondering if any of you guys know how to go about rooting this phone and what Roms need to be flashed to it. Any help is greatly appreciated. Google searches have really done nothing but confused me. Most of them lead to post where people complain about the phone not being updated.

Yes. It's the USC variant. I'm assuming Alltel is using the same one.
AFAIK that variant isn't quite the same as our E4GT. I know there was some ROMs by a former XDA member who's name shall not be named or you get an instant permaban from XDA... not really but it adds a cool drama effect right?
