I have tried stock rom, CM10, AOKP, and Kyan roms and I cannot get my phone to charge. Any suggestions as to why. THis is a new phone and runs fine. Im currently on CM10 but it just has trouble charging.
Have you tried a different cable and/or a different charging unit (like plugging it into a computer instead of the wall adapter)?

Have you tried turning the phone off and then plugging it in for charging? Do you see anything this way?
Try flashing the stock kernel and the rom?

I have tried several cables now. And no difference when its off. Do you mean flash stock kernel and the custom rom or just back to stock completely?
If nothing else works at this point, i'd probably go back to complete stock (stock rom, factory reset, wipe cache, etc). If it doesn't charge after that, at least the phone will be stock to take it back for exchange.
Have you taken out the battery? Also, use the AC plug and not the computer, I have had that problem before where the phone would not charge from the PC but plug it in and charge from AC and worked best kind after that with PC
Ive gotten it to charge but it is extremely slow to charge and dies pretty quick. 10% every hour and a half or so. It is possible it could be my actual battery or some hardware? Ive tried just about every rom and kernel.

I started having a problem with my phone today after I flashed cyanogen mod nightly 114 where the usb wont recognize the phone or charge it. Also it wont charge when its turned on but it will charge when I'm using the HTC usb cable and its plugged into the wall while turned off. I have tried rebooting the phone, fixing the permissions, and going to a earlier backup but nothing seems to work now. It started happening right after I flashed.

I have the same problem. I am running CM7 RC1 and Savaged Zen SBC kernel. I thought it was the cable, but I tried many cables, many charges including OEM and get the same weird behavior. Also, I noticed if you have a good charge (let's say above 90%) and you charge it, it will sometimes charge while the phone is on without a problem.
I don't know if this is a ROM problem or not. I came from Ultimate Droid, which I didn't have a problem with, but the developer is MIA.
I will be flashing to another ROM this weekend and se if that fixes the problem.
This is pretty annoying!!
I flashed the stock EVO rom this weekend and I can confirm that the problem is a combination of ROM and charger/cables.
When I was using CM7, it didn't matter what cable/charger I was using, it was not charing. Light will come on when I plugged in the phone and it would go off in a few seconds if the phone was on. If the phone was off, it seemed to worked ok.
Now with the Stock Rom, I can charge it while the phone is on but only using certain charges (not all USB chargers work) and certain cables do not work. the OEM charger and cable works perfect, and also the OEM cable and certain chargers I have. I have also tried with other cables and chargers and it seems ok. I guess some cables are not ideal to charge the EVO. Some of these cables I bought on eBay, and they said they were supposed to work with the EVO.
Since RadioShack has now a trade program, I might exchange my EVO eventually and get the EVO 3D. It is faster, has more memory, allows to uninstall bloatware and eventually (August/September) it will be unlocked.
Well first it seems my phone is not able to charge anymore... (Not even with the .bat file it just loses power when I try that)
Some times it manages to retain some charge but it goes away really fast when the screen is on.
I have no time to flash the device due to the low battery and super fast battery drain.
The sd seems to fail randomly, some times it is recognized, some it is not.
When you plug the phone to the usb in a pc a message USB device could not be recognizes appears some times (not always).
Blinking red light some times, never goes to green, eventually goes to solid red but doesn't charge enough to flash it.
Could the battery problem be software based? Actually it has no OS, Andriod flashed, no boot and only recovery is cloclwork latest version.
Any suggestions here? Everything is appreciated since it may be dead... I want to test anything and well tell you what happened, at least use it for science =P
Go into recovery and charge from the mains with the original charger.
What happens?

I'm trying to charge it and now using the .bat method but it won't go over 3565mV which is not enough to flash it. =S Dunno if letting it connected charges even if there is no notification at all.
And I've tried that and after turning it on and checking it never goes above 3.5 and I read I needed at least 3.68, what can I do? reset battery stats? or something else? Can I charge the battery directly? like with some cables?
And also, the red led doesn't turn on. If I plug it toa pc it sounds like an usb is connected, but no led light. What can I do then?

I had the exact same prob. Change the USB Cable and/or the PC u are using. Mine was stuck at 3588mV. The cable of the SGS2 did the trick for me. It was my friend's!

That's an interesting option I'm gonna try it, but I think it may not work because I tried to charge it at work with 3 different cables and chargers and no luck still. Buy maybe it was just the fact that between the time I charged it at work and got home it discharged, I'm trying this tonight and tell you what happens.
No luck still, stuck at 3557mV and won't let me flash it.
Sometimes the phone even freezes in fastboot after some command tried.
How can I charge it then?
Has anyone had this problem before?
My phone says its charging but it discharges (sometimes stays at the same level and sometimes charges VERY slowly). I let it sit on the charger without playing with it and sometimes I have to let it charge while turned off. I have tried many different chargers/usb cables but cannot find a solution.
I have tried wiping the phone twice + I have used an ipad charging block some of the time (higher voltage and amperage I believe).
It works for a little while after a wipe but the problem always comes back. I am running the latest Task 650 rom with stock kernel...
Any suggestions? My last resort is to return it to stock and try getting a warranty exchange.
I have this problem charging in the car on a really long cheap USB cable. Are you using the stock battery and stock charger / cable?

Have you tried using BetterBatteryStats to see what's draining your battery so much? If nothing seems odd or over the top. It could be a hardware problem (battery, usb, etc).

Well my battery is draining at the normal rate but it is not charging at the normal rate (most of the time it doesn't charge at all)
I have tried the stock usb cable and charging block, I also utilize the stock battery.

Have you tried plugging it in other wall outlets?
Also, did you try charging it through your PC? (can't use Fast Charge without another kernel than Task's)

Do you get this issue on stock or other ROMs?
Btw, there's 2/20 now.

Try updating, if it doesn't work, try stock. if it still doesn't work, send it for warranty.
Try another cable or reverting back to stock. I've got 4 different Galaxy S variant phones and some of the provided cords have just given up the ghost and wouldn't charge quickly anymore. Some will work with another another and some won't. Revert to out of the box stock and see if that helps.
Mine was doing similar deal. I did the *#*#4636#*#* went to battery and found out when I plugged in stock charger and cable it said usb charging instead of ac charging. When I plugged in htc charger went right to ac charging. So I tried using a different cable with stock charger and it went ac charger and seam to fix the problem. In fact if I plugged in just the stock cable not hooked to computer or charger it would switch to usb when there was no power going thru it. Hope this helps.

About a week ago, I flashed to the Beanstalk 4.2 JB rom. And found that while running the rom, I began suffering from real odd battery patterns.
I had two wall chargers and a USB cable to my computer, when I connected my phone to them, it would say that it was charging, but instead, it'd just drain the battery.
Using my 4.1 AOKP rom simply a few days ago, I never had a problem as weird as this. All my chargers worked on my phone, including the USB.
The only time I could charge my battery properly was to have to phone completely off.
So after a week, a few days ago, I flashed the SlimBean Rom in hopes I'd get a different experience from 4.2.
Now things got really weird. The phone would start repeatedly flashing that it was charging and not charging. Battery would still drain, what's worse is after calibration yesterday, I tried charging my phone while it was off. The battery during this charging process, said it was full. So I turned on the phone, and found my battery at 15%.
But this weird behavior isn't all the time, just now I plugged in my phone while on, using my wall charger. And right now it's acting fine. The question is, when and why is it doing something weird?
I'm not sure why this is happening. Everything was fine until 4.2 a week and a half ago, now my phone is acting like there isn't a consistent way to charge the battery, it's pretty much randomnly taking power and using it while it's connected to a charger.
Does anybody have similar problems with their phone after a flashing? Again, everything was fine when I was using 4.1.

Time for a new battery. Take it out and see if it spins. If it does, your battery is bad. If not, you may have a bad flash or rogue app; try clean flashing your 4.2 ROM and manually installing apps from the play store.

What do you mean by "see if it spins?" Do you mean spin it flat on a table?
Also, I have factory reset and flashed both roms each time. Is that a clean flashing?

yes, spin it on a flat surface. if it spins like a top, its bad. if it doesn't spin, its probably okay.
clean flash (for AOSP) means:
Reboot to recovery
Make a nandroid
Wipe data/Factory Reset
Wipe /cache
Advanced > Wipe /dalvik-cache
Flash ROM
Flash Gapps
Reboot.
I have a new related question:
Is it possible that flashing a rom could damage hardware? Like the battery or something else?
The battery sometimes will not recharge EVEN when the phone's turned off ever since I switched to 4.2. It's become a phone that is insanely unpredictable.
Battery doesn't spin, it's still fairly heavy. I'm a little worried something darker might be effecting my phone now.

Not a ROM issue. I recommend using triangle away to reset the binary counter, then Odin back to stock unrooted fl24 or gb27 and seek warranty replacement.

Flashes Liquid Smooth 4.2.2 on my wife's E4GT about a week ago. She has been having the same charging problems, no issues on 4.1.2. I have flashed many 4.2.2 ROMs with no charging problems. I will restore 4.1.2 on her phone tomorrow and see if that fixes things

Same Problem
I am having the same problem with my phone. im running ReVolt JB 4.2.2 6/2/13 ...same weird flashing when connected to charger, battery only charges when its turned all the way off and plugged into a wall charger. Battery is still good doesn't spin...for me its only this rom that gives me trouble.
Everyone's has the 3.0 kernel on 4.2.2 or the 3.4 kernel on 4.2.2?
I've never had any issues on Slim Bean, Liquid Smooth, ChaOS, SuperNexus, Carbon Rom, CM10 WFTN.
On top of that, make sure you're using the original charger and usb cable too because using different types of cables
with the same type of usb port can also be the issue. ( Short, Long, MTP or PTP type for PC's only etc )
Also is your FAST CHARGE ( If supported by the kernel ) on?
Or is your usb cable / plug not connected all the way on both charger and wall port.
It could be a ton of different issues.
My friends wife had a problem when she was using 4.2.2 AOKP.
Turns out her original PLUG was the problem and she was using her husbands Note II plug just to charge the battery but
she still is using the original E4GT usb cable.

The cable shouldn't make a difference in how long it takes to charge unless it's an inferior cable. Note 2 and Epic 4G Touch are both Samsung cables, I can't imagine that they would make the Note's cable inferior to ours
Also, search through these forums and you'll find that the recommended cable for this device, actually is a Blackberry cable.
I had to get a replacement phone because my charging port was fried luckily I had insurance so the replacement phone was free. Initially my charging port was lose and the tech support at sprint tightened it up but it was all down hill from there...just an update to my previous post .... It was a hardware issue not a ROM issue.

Ok, i flash a custom ROM few weeks ago, and from that point, my M8 it's taking like 10 hours to fully charge. The ROM it's a GPE.
Beside that, i try to shut down the phone, and charge in that state, but the battery it's stil draining while it's shut down. Like, now i have 25% battery, after i move the phone, i have 15% battery. And like i say, the phone it's shutdown.
I think i have a problem with the usb port on my phone, because not everytime the phone charge.
I try with many tipes of USB, trying to connect to PC, using original AC, and all of that, and still it's taking way to long to charge.
Do you know what the problem is? Help it will be apreciated
Anybody knows why??
Try going back to stock ROM, or another ROM, to try to eliminate software as the cause. Otherwise, too many variables to know what the cause is.
If you revert to full stock and the problem persists, its either a hardware issue (damaged port as you mentioned) or charger.
Stick with wall charger. Connecting to PC is always much slower. Try another cable and charger. Stock HTC for both, if possible.
