Update: NVIDIA have released the required drivers for ICS/JB.. - Samsung Captivate Glide

Hi all.
I am Galaxy R user and we have raised a petition for Nvidia to provide us the ICS drivers for venatana board so that if our manufacturers are unable to provide us ICS, our devs can make a ICS build with full H/W acceleration by using those drivers and if we will get those drivers we will surely get latest Jelly Build also (actually i trust in our devs more than our manufacturers).
This petition is not for only Galaxy R but for each and every device based on ventana board and their users suffers lacks of H/W acceleration with ICS (like Lg Optimus 2x, moto atrix & Samsung Captivate Glide).
kindly sign this petition and show your support also spread this to your friends so that they can also support in our petition against nvidia and so that we can show to nvidia that how we care about our devices and we want drivers from you.

Yay!! So does this mean our great developers can use this and make our own ICS build?

This is great news isn't it? From what I understand one of the biggest hurdles for developers is having to create the drivers for ICS/JB from scratch.

Does that mean its easier to make CM9 for our phones? If yes, then im very happy!

Great, except it doesn't look like there's any source available, just already compiled drivers...

Aren't drivers like this always distributed as binary blobs instead of source code?

Can a dev please comment on this thread - is this what you guys need to compile ICS, CM etc for the Glide or do we still need something from the stock ROM?

We still need drivers for things like the WiFi/camera/radio/etc before we'd have anything remotely close to a usable rom. It's possible to create a 4.0 rom without these, but much more difficult (read: time consuming).

ICS Source is OUT ! (Ice Cream Sandwitch) Android 4.0.1

Hi All,
Below a message from google about releasing ICS Time to DEV !

Hi! We just released a bit of code we thought this group might be interested in.
Over at our Android Open-Source Project git servers, the source code
for Android version 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is now available.
Here's how to get it:Follow the instructions at
http://source.android.com/source/downloading.html
Check out the
'ics-release' branch:repo init -u
https://android.googlesource.com/platform/manifest -b android-4.0.1_r1
That's it! However since this is a large push, please be aware that it
will take some time to complete. If you sync before it's done, you'll
get an incomplete copy that you won't be able to use, so please wait
for us to give the all-clear before you sync.
This is actually the source code for version 4.0.1 of Android, which
is the specific version that will ship on the Galaxy Nexus, the first
Android 4.0 device. In the source tree, you will find a device build
target named "full_maguro" that you can use to build a system image
for Galaxy Nexus. Build configurations for other devices will come
later.
Unfortunately we still don't have our Gerrit code review servers back
online. That remains our top priority though, and we hope to have them
back soon.
This release includes the full history of the Android source code
tree, which naturally includes all the source code for the Honeycomb
releases. However, since Honeycomb was a little incomplete, we want
everyone to focus on Ice Cream Sandwich. So, we haven't created any
tags that correspond to the Honeycomb releases (even though the
changes are present in the history.)

now let the games begin!!
Good news! Hopefully the devs can do something magic!
What does this actually mean for us DHD users? is it simply a matter of putting 2 and 2 together, and bam we have a rom? or will it take a few weeks, and be extremely difficult because I notice everyone saying this is only for the Galaxy Nexus, so it is pretty much like porting I guess?

Really? I hardly believe that.
Having the source code is very important, not everything. Release source code is for Galaxy Nexus, a different device. We need a working kernel and support for our hardware. Real devs are probably working on that now. The real work begins from here, and I hardly believe we will have something functional until CM9 starts having night builds... 1-2 months from now
Maybe we get the first nightly as a christmas gift.

[INFO] Good News Abound - The state of DEV

I thought I'd clear some things up.
If I'm wrong please don't flame me, I'm only doing my best to subdue the general discontent in [sgh-t989]/[android development]...
Steve Kondik, also known as the creator of the godfather of all ROMS (cyanogenmod) personally owns one of our t989s (source:twitter). That, combined with the fact that this is a FLAGSHIP t-mo device probably means that our phone will be supported from the day that 9.0.0 drops.
Now, let me tell you what this means.
As you all know, for a device get non-kang CM9 our hardware must be fully supported. Camera, GPS, bluetooth, egl drivers all must work.
When a huge scale ROM like CM9 is cooked for so many devices I understand it goes something like this
[AOSP modified by Cyanogenmod(teamdouce)] +
[Android Kernel, also modified by Cyanogenmod]+
[Device tree]+
[A virgin sacrifice]=
CYANOGENMOD
Now the interesting bit, is that as soon as the device tree (Eg. Specific driver modifications for GPS, Camera, GPU) includes our device the device tree can be used to power OTHER AOSP ROMS like Miui
I know that gingerbread MIUI already makes use of the CM7 device tree, so in all likelihood they will use the CM9 device tree as well!!!
So in conclusion.
-Because CM9 has a high likelihood of dropping on our devices as soon as it comes out (most likely within the next 30 days)
-Because other AOSP-Based roms depend on the cyanogenmod device tree
-WE WILL HAVE A LOT OF FLASHING OPTIONS SOON
-Probably including CM9 AND MIUI v4 <<<<--------THAT **** CRAY
Thanks for your time, hope it helped
Don't forget the thanks button feels good when you push it.
there are a lot of other devices with cm9 alpha and we are still not an officially supported device. Still unofficially being worked on

the thing is, many of those are KANGed as in not officially supported by CM team
of the few that officially are supported is Nexus S i9020 and SGS i9000
even the "classic" SGS2 i9100 is not fully supported by CM yet, there's more bugs than... well it's not usable as a daily driver
that was just before the end of last year
they might have improved it a bit by now
even the Nexus S version of CM9 is still very buggy, that's why i have the stock official ICS4 instead on my Nexus S

I don't believe in idiots, can you make them all go away?
It takes time for this stuff guys. Anyone remember how long it took to jump from donut to eclair to get a stable rom? And look how few devices there were that actually ran android. This whole "if its not done in 2 weeks then its never happening" thing is a bit unfair. Let the devs dev and those who do not can wait for them quietly.
Why this statement?
From a glaxay better than yours.
tl;dr
I am basing my entire post on the fact that Steve Kondik has our device and should theoretically be working on it.

It only takes 2 weeks to modify the stock rom or cm7/9.
Its the expectation that is built when people act like quantity is all that matters. There are basically only 2 people making roms; Samsung and CM team, everyone else just waits on these 2 so that they could tweak and modify one of those 2. The funniest part is that the use of the word "kanging" is thrown around among these other people.

I'd like to believe, I really would. And I hope this does come to fruition. However, even if it doesn't, the few ROMS we do have are pretty good, and our phone still outperforms almost anything else available right now, so I'll still be happy.
I do have one request, though. Can we figure out a way to make CM based ROMS happen without a virgin sacrifice? There are so many other things in life that require those, that they are starting to become scarce
The fact that lots of other phones have alphas and repositories available to even make kangs does not fare well for our device.

New CM9 Tease Posted by RC for p930

If you haven't visited RC's page on google+, he just posted another tease on CM9 for us and said "just a couple more buglets to solve." Cross your fingers that we're getting close.
Edit: you can append anything to the url. No placeholder.
super cool considering cm9 is not available for very many devices right now.
Currently, you can compile CM9 for a small number of devices- notably the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (Wi-Fi and T-Mobile versions), the HP Touchpad and Motorola Xoom. The next devices to show up will likely be a whole array of Samsung phones (Exynos chipset), with devices based on the Qualcomm MSM8660 and 7×30 chipsets to follow.

@scott, I don't look at CM as my saving grace for supplying an ICS ROM. There are countless others out there that have supplied an ICS ROM for various devices, some of them are actually more stable than the ICS Kang builds.
the man is evil giving us the teases....I want to be testing that rom.
a user asked him where he would be releasing the CM9 for our phone once it's ready, and he gave this:

So I say let's keep an eye on it

Yeah the P990 (G2X/O2X) has had Nightly CM9 builds for some time now.

That was me asking as I could never find any of his commits to the git repository. Still not sure if he has submitted anything yet, but I will get checking that link on a regular basis. I think I may also send a message to koush to see if he has what is needed to create CWM for our phones...
And he was replying to me - and I asked specifically about the 930. He +'d my name on the reply which is the only way I know he was talking with me...
even if cm9 for 930 publish, camera work fluently is or not is a big probrem

According to the guys at the att store...that there is supposed to be a ics push sometime within the next 30 days....at least that is what they said when I bricked my phone and replaced it...they thought that maybe I got a push already...I kind of looked at them like they were crazy...then one said to the other that he read it in their "kms" system. When I worked for sprint KMS stood for Knowledge management system...it was essentially the end all be all of all possible knowledge about a phone or company policy.
I still think this is speculation and I won't say with 100 percent confidence that either of them were telling the truth.
If At&t does push ICS out, would that make it easier to compile CM9 for the VS920 (LG Spectrum)?

Spectrum is very similar (same SOC), but it uses a different radio (to account for CDMA). So unless the AT&T version of CM9 is specifically modded, it won't work for Spectrum.

Ubuntu touch on back burner?
I was excited to try and pitch in on this but it seems like the Canonical drive for Ubuntu touch development has lost steam lately. I had read somewhere that priorities had shifted and it was not receiving the same attention and effort that it was during Q3 2013. I'm still excited to contribute but it doesn't seem like there is a lot of progress on the project on a regular basis. That could just be my impression but I don't see the progress spreadsheets getting updated for the most popular phones and tablets shipping over the last 2 quarters.
Last time I started working on this they where merging all the phablet codebase with the android 4.2 framework and working on installing their own code review system (gerrit) for phablet.
Haven't swing around to ask in the IRC but rsalvetti could tell what's the status on a phablet build for 4.2

Well, there's a difference between their official builds for Nexus devices and community builds. There's been a lot of work on the official builds lately. You can see improvements on those supported devices every day. It's just logical that Canonical cannot take care of tens or hundreds of devices. Therefore they focus on a small selection. If you don't see any progress on a particular, officially not supported device, it's not Canonical's fault.
By the way: They rather speed up development. To manage this, they even quit their cloud storage service: http://beuno.com.ar/archives/318
I talked to Ricardo Salvetti he told me that you can check out a branch of their ubuntu modified android framework with this command.
repo init -u https://code-review.phablet.ubuntu.com/p/aosp/platform/manifest.git -b phablet-4.4.2_r1
I am in the process of figuring out now how to get libhybris and get the old brunch command working.
Haven't gotten on IRC but if you get on it through the week during the day i am sure they can help us out.

That's excellent that Ricardo Salvetti gave you assistance to get going on development for G2. I didn't get in touch (not pun intended) with him yet even though
I have been on the Ubuntu touch IRC channel to try and follow current development activity and news. As for the previous post, I don't expect Canonical to do
any significant development except on the original 4 (now 3) platforms that they planned to support with corporate development. I see they have discontinued
support for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and so now are down to 3 devices. I made my comment on slow development pace since I didn't see much being
added or updated to many of the most popular 2013 phones/tablets that you would expect to see get a decent amount of community dev support. Furthermore,
since UT is based off of CM10.1 it is difficult to try and support new devices since CM10 is now basically in maintenance with CM11 receiving most of the dev
support for newer devices. I love Canonical and there commitment to open source Linux development but it just seems like the Ubuntu Touch development is
facing an uphill battle to remain relevant when newer devices are becoming really difficult to support due to the dated started point for CM based branch
development. At this point I would love to hear Canonical talk about a strategy to shift newer Ubuntu Touch development to a CM11 base if that could be
managed.

cm 11.0 is 4.4.2 the reason I had to wait for a while for development on the LG G2 was exactly that they did not supported CM11 with the command I posted before they now support CM11 Devices and I believe they moved their core 3 devices to CM11 already.
Exactly for the reason you mentioned about CM10 being in maintenance.

Well that is great to hear. I guess I haven't been following UT as closely as I probably should. I'm very eager to pitch to get some development underway on LG G2 and LG G Pad 8.3. I was just discouraged because these newer platforms all have been moving onto KitKat and UT was using JB (CM10.1) base for development so it seemed like an uphill battle even with a lot of help from Canonical devs. Since they are moving UT development up to CM11 these and other platforms should be a much easier development task since work on CM11 and 4.4.2 AOSP projects is very active, hence getting questions answered should be a lot easier.
Got the easy part done building ubuntu touch.
Now I am working on getting it to boot it is really hard since I have no way to diagnose why it's stuck on the LG logo.
Does anyone know how to build a serial usb cable for lg devices I did one for samsung and it helped debug issues in the past.

Looks like the Andropod interface can get you USB debugging. Post back if you wind up using it for UT development on the G2.

Thanks I found it when I tried getting it working. But that does not appear to mention it's for the kernel it's supposedly used for debugging applications.
Looking at the block diagram I don't think it will work since basically that device is a USB to serial command adapter.
While I need the phone to output serial (done in kernel) and to figure out which wiring is the one to read that serial output.
I could try setting up a framebuffer but i gave it a quick attempt and it didnt work.
Additionally I haven't figured out how to flash the kernel without having to use the ubuntu installer. and that means that I have to reinstall everything from scratch and that takes about 40 minutes.
If I could figure out the command to flash the kernel I could do a adb push kernel && adb shell flash kernel. And that would take 3-5 minutes.
Thank God I went with the nexus 5

Any update on this?
This still alive vs980

LG Spectrum 2 ROM Development.

I am.willing to fund a dev for the creation of a custom Rom for the LGE VS930. We have root and a way to bypass the downloader. There is no reason a year and a half later that we can't have a custom Rom.

blah blah blah
After all this time, no one has even announced a development. I think wishing for it is a dead subject. I'm going to get a Samsung since it seems that developers aren't interested in LG's

Yeah man i agree with you..
i dont want to raise a thread from the dead, but this is completely possible. lg made the source files completely downloadable for 4.1 jelly bean, and i'm going to see if i cant compile and get it running this week. we already have an unlocked kernel, so a custom rom shouldnt be that far fetched, especially considering the hardware is so similar to other cellphones with huge rom development.
if anyone could help me out, though, i would greatly appreciate it. i've never actually compile a rom from source, but i do have experience with code, and app development. I also have the actual hardware, which apparently was a huge problem for a while.
here's to hoping everything runs smoothly, and that we get a working, clean rom out soon!
here's a link to the ics and jb source code from lg. (cant i have too few posts, but basically go the the lg open source repository and search for vs930)
