Hello everyone,
I have one hell of a story to tell about one boy, two phones (the htc hd2 and the samsung vibrant), and one freakin' committed customer service team (T-Mobile's). OK, so I'll begin my story of how I ended up with a brand-new Vibrant for essentially 350 bucks. Bear with me here, it's a bit long. So, I originally purchased an htc hd2 way back in mid-June for 300 bucks on Craigslist. The phone ended up being defective because of a hardware issue, and because it happened to be under the "buyer's remorse" period, at least the way T-Mobile saw it, I was able to return it by mail for a brand new one for free. I was surprised when I called to learn that T-Mobile didn't require a single piece of information to verify that I was the original owner of the phone, all they saw was that an htc hd2 had magically been activated on such and such a date. So, I returned that hd2 and recieved a new one in a couple of days, which ended up being just as buggy as the last one, so I decided to abandon the hd2 altogether in exchange for the Samsung Vibrant. I called T-Mobile customer service today to setup the exchange for the vibrant, which would cost me 50 bucks since the hd2 cost 450 and the vibrant costs 500, and I was FINALLY told that they had no record of me ever buying an hd2 (I wonder why, lol). I then explained to them that I wasn't the original owner of the phone and that I had bought it from the original owner, but that the phone had been purchased only a few days before they sold it to me. They told me at first that I would have contact the original owner and get the 450 bucks credited back to there account. The only problem was that I had no way of contacting the original owner, and that they had switched carriers almost immediately after purchasing the hd2. After about four hours, and many many phone calls later, I called t-mobile one last time to explain my situation, keep in mind that I was totally honest the entire time, I reached a very nice customer service rep, and after explaining what had happened to me, and after speaking to her supervisor for over ten minutes, she told me that even though they almost never do this, that they would "take my word for it" and send the vibrant, no questions asked, for basically 50 bucks. I was over the moon considering that less than 5 minutes ago I had thought that I had thrown away 300 dollars. I would like to give some major props to T-Mobile's customer support, never in a million years would I have expected a customer service team work so hard to keep a a customer happy. Talk about going the distance. Well, that's my story. Tell me what you think, and what your experiences with them have been like.
Peace, bobofosho12
I got mine for $164 and i wasnt even due for a full upgrade. Got my phone around august. Even my sister which is due for a full upgrade has to pay more. So i think im super lucky except for the tax and all that

Yeah, its an online Special. However i Would Suggest your sister to call T-mobile and ask to be transfered to the Loyalty Department to get hers. because she will get a good deal as her contract is up...... They will give it to her at full Discount and provide her with a data plan of $24.99 a month. instead of $30.00 like you got... and she wont have to pay no upgrade fee's whatsoever.

Same here. I renewed my contract last year, so did my GF. We both are eligible for full discount so I jump on it right away.
I hate buying ANYTHING with a contract, I know that even though I might pay through the nose up front, i'm saving tons more than I would if I had a contract for two years. I just generally buy an "almost" brand new phone on someplace like Craigslist and then I return it to T-mobile and get a brand new one for free, hence what I did with the hd2. Just my strategy though.

I have the 24.99 data plan and i will thanks for the info
my story on getting the vibrant new WITHOUT a contract for $133. Please note, this cannot be duplicated anymore as the "loop hole" has been caught and closed. I noticed this post on slickdeals.net the 2nd day it had been posted:
http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2132124
So basically costco has the cell phone kiosk's which sell tmobile and a few other carriers. as we know, T-mobile offers and "even more plus" program with is NO contract. also as we know that if we went to tmobile and got a vibrant with this even more plus program is $500.
BUT for the first 3 or 4 days that costco sold the vibrant they were selling it for $250 with the "even more plus" plan or $99 with contract. EDIT( this $250 price was a wholesale price they were offering)
so went there and bought 2 samsung vibrants for 250$ each plus tax. ended up being about $540 by opening 2 new lines on the "even more plus" plan. note that this is different then the "even more" plan which is a contract. Even though "even more plus" is not a contract, costco would not sell the phone without an actual plan but thats ok because this "even more plus plan is no contract because normally you pay full price for the phone.
so then because the "even more plus" plan is not a contract, I called t mobile and told them that I want to cancel the even more plus plan and that I paid full price for the phone. (which i did pay costco's full price). they canceled the plans over the phone on the first try without any hassel (some people had a little trouble canceling)
So then i sold 1 on ebay for $485 including shipping and kept one for myself. After paying shipping, ebay listing fees, selling fees, and paypal fees. I came out basically paying the difference which is only about $130 for my new, NON contract vibrant
keep in mind I already have a tmobile contract from my mytouch, so i just put the sim card in the new vibrant and was good to go.
Costco and Tmobile both caught on to this within days, and now it went from 250 to 479 the day after i got mine.
so i basically ended up paying $130 for a New Vibrant, not subsidized, and non contract even less then if I had signed a new 2 year contract.
If so many people had not ONLY gotten this deal just to sell all the phones on ebay and craigslist, the deal probably would have lasted a little longer. (i just sold 1 to offset the cost of buying one for myself)
so keep in mind, this deal is now dead, and no one has had success trying to replicate it since the price change because costco and tmobile had caught on quickly.
Im still under contract with tmobile for another year because i bought mytouch last year. Wife's phone is still eligible for an upgrade I can use later this year
I got mine for $100 after $50 mail in rebate. I bought mine at Costco warehouse . It included the car charger, a carrying case and a Bluetooth headset.
still cant beleive you guys didnt just spam these forums spreading the good news on the price. so sad.
well thankfully, i got mine on bing cashback and so the phone might end up being $350 for me.
oh what i could have done with $100 extra, sigh
by the way did you need to be a costco member to get that price or could anyone get it?
I actually got mine for free, but in an extremely roundabout and lucky sort of way.
Got a Samsung Behold II with a new contract at the beginning of June for free from Letstalk.com. I won't rehash all the ridiculous problems I had with the phone, as it's fairly legendary at this point.
Had even more problems after the now infamous 1.6 OTA update, took my problems to T-Mobile corporate, and after 2 weeks worth of emails and phonecalls with their director of customer relations they basically convinced Samsung to toss me a Vibrant to make me happy enough to go away and leave them alone.
I sort of rode out the "perfect storm" here and was just in the right place at the right time. Still, this is the best free phone I've ever had!
Got mine for the same price as Alex.
i got mine for $534 after tax!
Hey just wondering if anyonr knows of any sales or good sites ti get this phone as a already tmobile customer. Thanks

I still had a year left on my SGS 4G contract w/TMO, and after talking to a couple people, was able to get the SGSII for $230 - $50 rebate. I think it was the Loyalty Dept that I got referred to.
I'm an original Voicestream>TMO customer though, if that makes a difference.
I was upgrade eligible at the moment SGS2 was released.
I called Tmo Loyalty Dept. to get a discounted price, and they gave me
a $250 Loyal customer credit and $50 MIR still applicable.
So, $350 Original upgrade price including tax and upgrade fee
- $250 Loyal customer credit
- $50 MIR
= $50 Final price
All I was required was 2 year contract and $20 or more data plan.
I've been with them for 6+ years.
what number did you call? cuz I am eligible for full upgrade and they told me 290$
1-800-866-2453
Say "Cancel" upon the voice prompt.
It will put you through "Customer Care" or "Retention" dpt.
Then, make it sure they are customer care or retention dpt.
I got the same deal as Xianzai2000. I was eligible for full upgrade ($250 credit). I got my phone for 47.99 + applicable taxes (they charge taxes on the full price of the phone, not after the credit).
So at the end of the day I paid $78 total for the phone...got free express 2-3 day shipping, no upgrade fee, nothing else.
But I did have to sign up for the data plan which was $20/month for 5gb 4g (then get throttle) unlimited plan.
Thanks guys so much for this good info I am going to call and see if I can do it
I bought an unused one from eBay for $450 shipped. And currently on the $30/month "Walmart" 5GB data plan. I used to pay ~$60/month EM+ plan. So basically in 15 months the phone will be free
Bought mine for $480 from Ebay and I'm using the T-mobile/wallmart plan and I LOVE IT.
Bought mine for $149, no mail-in-rebate at Target in-store. That's with a 2-year upgrade.
When i called they said id have to pay full price since i have the fam value plan so that sucks so i just bought it on ebay so i stay on same plan thanks for all the help cant wait to get my galaxy s2 im tired of only getting edge on my xpera play from at&t

I just got a great deal on my new GSII! Go to Best Buy and price match it with the Magenta Day event that is going on right now (for today only.) They will price match it to 50$ total (plus tax which is like 40$). Also!, there is no mail in rebate to hass le with. So you save that 20$ per month and you get to use T-Mobile's classic plans. So I pay 120$ a month for 4 lines unlimited text/web and 1000 mins
I called them and there is no way to get it less than 229. So I am going to get it from walmart or costco it's 179 there.
why is the galaxy note so expensive on tmobile 369 with contract wth
any body know where i can find it cheaper

so you will pay $500 plus tax and then you are gonna get $300 mail in rebate.. good luck. F*** T-Mobile for their stupid deals.
Just got back from T-mobile (switching over from sprint) and the Note II was 299.99 and a 200 MIR. So, didn't cost me 500, was 300 but I don't mind waiting for the rebate.

I got it too. They are not even advertising it. There were several people in store for a new phone and all of them got GSIII. The CS was surprised and reluctant to sell me a $99 Note II.
That is pretty good. Two days ago i bought a note 2 from loyalty for $200 flat no upgrade fees, shipping fees or tax. UPS is supposed to deliver wednesday. I didn't know about that deal though, that might be a little better than mine... definitely worth it though
anyone know how long the MIR might take?
Check for an affinity group
If you belong to the right affinity group (i.e., public employee, large corporate account, alumni or trade association) you might have a significant discount on top of the current sale price. Note II is available w/new contract or renewal for $49. I'm buying.
Rebates usually take 5-7 weeks

I got my Galaxy Note 2 today with the T-Mobile special. This is the math I came up with.
Suggested retail$699.99
Instant discount-$200.00
Mail-in rebate card-$300.00
After Mail-in rebate $199.99
Taxes $52.70
If you canceled early $200.00 (or what you end up paying through the two year contract)
Total of device $452.69
You must go with classic plan $59.99 + $30.00 + Insurance $7.99 = $97.98 (before taxes & fees)
Adding est of tax and fees $5.00
Est Total per month $102.98
Minus $200 within the 24 months to cover what you truly pay for the device (which they don't want you to know) $8.34 per month
What you pay per month for your plan in the end (After taking out the hidden monthly cost for your device) $94.64
Remember that you pay full price for your device one way or another.
Est of what you pay for the device and services within 2 years (after the rebate) $2724.21
$3000.00 for the Galaxy Note 2 is the about what you pay after two years. To think that this is much cheaper than Sprint, AT&T and Verizon. Ouch!!!

btw, you don't really need the insurance.
In any case, I don't get the point of this thread. People need to realize that they're paying for the phone one way or another. I just go on the Value Plan and buy my phones for $700 straight up, that way, I know exactly what I'm paying for (and it's cheaper overall for me at least)
same **** to me today i pay 400 new customer

I have a 5 gig plan...500 minutes cuz I don't make calls and my bill is 92 and change every month. That's including the price of the phone. I paid 250 for the phone, then it's 20 dollars a month for 20 months. That's 400+250=650 for the phone.
You can't really factor the cost of the plan into the cost of the phone. I would be basically paying the same as it is with the phone regardless.
And I could just go to the store and pay the rest if I didn't want to pay tax.
I'm just having a hard time figuring out how you came up with 3000 for the phone...

So I haven't seen this type of thread yet, I was at my local Walmart and the tag was there but no phone, not even the dummy. It was listed for 198.88* and the * meant with qualifying upgrade or new agreement (2yr contract). I left there and dialed 611 and asked for retention to the bot operator. Once I got through, they wouldn't budge from 149 down and 20 bucks a month deal. I've been a T-Mobile customer since it was Voice Stream and the rep noted that, but still wouldn't budge. She suggested I go third party, but even at that route, I am not eligible for full upgrade until November. I have an old grandfathered family plan and I won't ditch it for the new plans just to get this phone, I'd buy a S3 before that happened. Anyway, has anyone gotten or found any better deals, Costco, Sam's (I didn't have time to stop in while on lunch).

In your case, since its a yera before you can upgrade, your best option is to buy off contract, waiting may have a drop in price, but how long to wait. At the rate Samsung has been releasing Galaxy series devices, it will be 6 months before we see the Note 3 or S5 lol. Wirefly may have deals, but third party seems to be an alternative. And if the sales rep is nice or want to make a sale, maybe there is some light at the end of the tunnel for you.
May I ask how much you are paying for your data now? Do you have any promotions on data, like loyalty/BtV?
I'm aware that the regular rates for data under the Classic is $20 for 2GB (cheapest one). If you were put on the Bridge to Value, I believe that goes down 50% ($10). If you also got a loyalty discount like me, it is $5; and actually, that is $5 for 5GB of 4G/LTE data for each line - this is the Preferred deal through the loyalty department.
I'm asking because when I tried to upgrade our phones (we haven't upgraded in 4 years), we would lose those promotions ($5 goes back to $20). If you already pay $20 and this won't affect you, then just buy it cheap at Walmart. If you do have those promotions like me, you should have the option online from my.t-mobile.com to do the EIP plan and keep your plans and services unchanged.
Hope that helps.

Costco is $199.99 for 2 years. Unfortunately they don't have them in stock nor will they know when. My guess is May 15th, when all the 3rd party stores receive stock (keeping fingers crossed). I am actually willing to wait this time, save over $400!

If you were asking me, my grandfathered plan is awesome, I got my wife with the $20 preferred android data plan which is unlimited data with no cap, mine was added later also at $20, unlimited with a 2gb speed cap. We have my faves still (free lol), unlimited text, 1000 family minutes shared between 5 lines currently, and after the wife and I added data for just us, our minute usage went from nearly 800-900 minutes use to maybe 100 give or take. Most of my connections and deals were always done via loyalty depart, back when all the reps spoke English and were easy to deal with.

So am I. Contract was originally expiring this month (May 2013). Called them back early March and thinking of quitting early, but offered some great deals (almost fooled me!) and I extended my contract (now ending 2015). There were some hiccups along the way, concerning how I can upgrade my phone and what was offered. After multiple calls the next few days, we ended up with what I think is a good deal.
So I have 4 lines on my account.
Classic 1000 Whenever Minutes - $60 (Shared)
Preferred Unlimited Texting - $15 (Shared)
Preferred Android Web (Unlimited Data up to 5GB of 4G/LTE) - $20 ($5 Each Line)
Add a Line fee - $10 ($5 for 2 additional lines)
Loyalty Discount = -$10
Corporate Discount = -$15
_______________________ TOTAL MONTHLY BILL: $80 + taxes. Not bad huh?
I'm looking at ~$2600 (include taxes) for my T-Mo service for the next two years.
Then I have to factor the cost of the phones. All 4 of my lines were using crappy old dumb phones. We haven't upgraded in over 4 years! So we got a Nexus 4 ($350), S Relay ($250), S3 ($300 total), S4 ($650?) = ~$1600. Now I just have to figure out how to lower the cost of that S4.

That's a good deal, I think I pay 90 for the wife and I, I just added a line for $10 for my son, and I split the bill with my parents, they just have voice lines with text and myfaves. Buying the phones up front and having a plan that is grandfathered and technically out of contract is where you save in the end. Follow the unofficial tmobile blog, http://www.tmonews.com/ good intel there and updated often.
Nexus 4 and S Relay were bought in Best Buy off-contract. I got them to price match. The S3 was bought through T-Mobile, as a new added line on my account for the discounted Classic price of $149-$50 rebate. It's been over 30 days so I plan on cancelling that line and pay the ETF of $200, which brings the cost for the S3 to $300. I am planning on doing the same with the S4, but the trick here now is patience. To be able to profit, I would need to wait on the price to come down. It is still $299 with 2-year contract. I'm not even considering places like Amazon and Walmart because of other complications. They also charge their own fees if you cancel early - this is because they earn commissions when activating or upgrading a carrier's phone, thus they can give instant discounts. BB does not have this policy (as of today at least).

Like I said, if buying the phones up front just to save a bit on the monthly bill doesn't save me a lot of money in the long run (over 2 years), then it's not worth it. Plus, it's not like everyone has $6-700 lying around to buy a phone for full price upfront. I had to find the cheapest good phones (Nexus 4 and S Relay). I am also adamant about keeping my current Classic plan and all the loyalty promotions and discounts. However, for my S4, I got them through the EIP. I paid the $200 down payment including taxes, and then $20 for two years. That brings the total cost to $680 for the phone.
I can't afford to pay that whole amount right now. It's too much. I gotta take the hit over 24 months. Now, I do have 14/20 days to see if there are better alternatives. one of which is that S3 approach.

T-Mo is strict with this new deal, $149 down, $20 for 24 months.... loyalty WILL NOT discount, it is what it is... :crying:

I had grandfathered plan at $20 for 5 GB and one option in the order page was to retain your plan as is - which I did. Do not know if they would maintain the $5 - $10 plans if you select that option, but it stated that no change would be made to the extended plan.
If that was the case, you get the best of both - 2 more years at the low rates and the phone for $200.

That don't say anything, what did you pay, final bill?
Wanted to share this T-Mobile flyer - GS4 @ $99 down + 10% off on bill + no activation fees. You have to call customer service to activate and mention association with Student rate.
thanks! i'll be using that promotion i was just now about to add a line to my account...

What do you mean by "mention association with Student rate"
can you explain it a little more? i got the galaxy s4 a day before the price dropped to 99$ can i still get this discount on my phone? like a 50$ card or something and the 10% off
Wish &^*%(% TMo would make up their mind.
Right after its release they told me that their days of discounting a phone with a contract or extension were gone forever when dealing directly with them, but for now, third party vendors were still being permitted to so. Got mine from Costco because of that.
Is this with contract, or is it the prepaid thing. I have been waiting for the S4 to become $100 with data plan. We use the data and I don't see myself canceling the contract so paying $100 for the phone with data seems like a better deal to me than paying $600 plus data for the phone. Does this also include activation fee and if so, can it be waived? How much is one paying with this deal.

Just picked up a Galaxy S4 yesterday at T-Mobile. $99 down (plus tax on the full retail cost of the phone - $579 at the moment) brought me up to about $146 at the store and a promise of $20/month for 24 months. Is it just me or does it seem a lot more expensive to get a phone through T-Mobile these days?

Per my earlier post - yes. Go to 3rd party vendors. Walmart just advertised $199 with a $50 gift certificate . That would be new line or two year extension - no $20/month BS.

No. You're basically buying the phone outright, but for $99 down with the remaining 480 spread out over 2 years with no interest. If you were to buy the S4 outright at AT&T or Verizon, etc. then you'd have to pony up the total $579 right then and there.
Can't find any info on this, so anyone with personal experience: Can you take this deal if you're on the $30 pre-paid monthly plan? T-Mobile just posted a simaler offer on their Facebook page today....
did this expire?
Still think you are not getting it folks or I am missing something.
Why buy from TMo when you can get a much better deal elsewhere (unless you would not be eligible for the two year extension requirement and you don't want a new line)?
I was eligible but TMo would not deal - they even suggested I go elsewhere for the phone which I did. Then I sold my Note 2 (too big for my pocket - especially on my bike) for over twice what I paid for the S4..

Yeah, but the way the plans were before, you could pay the up front cost of the phone, sign a 2 year contract, and either get the phone without much additional cost with the plans you intended to keep anyway, or pay a $200 ETF which in this case would put you completely out of contract with a Galaxy S4 for $299. With the way things are now, you pony up an extra $280 over the course of two years (or up front, or at any point in between up front and two years) to reach the same state you could have reached for $299 + tax + activation before.

Guys, its basically the same thing. The only difference I see is that before this change happened, if you knew you were going to be in a two years contract and it didn't matter to you, you could buy the phone for $199. Now you just have to buy it full price.

You are basically right as to buying it from TMo. My point is don't - you could get if for $199 with 2 year extension but now this is down to $149 elsewhere.
TMo said they will be reining in the third party sellers soon so they can't do it anymore, so take advantage of it now.
You can find a lot more info on this deal here . Sry I didn't post that link before. this deal is with the no-contract plan (but not prepaid plan) .

I have personally used this deal with the galaxy S4 - I signed up on the phone to confirm with a rep that discount was applied properly. I pay $54.00 for unlimited talk text and 2.5GB of data + $20 of monthly payment for the phone. I have one line on my plan. Hope this helps
T-Mobile paid off my old EIP and put the 99 plus taxes on my bill coming next month. Came out to 151 down on my bill next month. Free Express shipping, and also gave me 10 dollars off a month for 6 months on my bill.
Gotta love T-Mobile. Been with them 7 years.
That was from just talking to the right rep. No specific deal
It's all about talking to the right rep. Last time I called with a billing question, I ended up speaking with someone who didn't really know what was going on instead of trying to make my case I just hung up and called back and spoke with a super helpful rep after.
