[ROOT]Triangle Away - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Since they split our forums up again I just wanted to post a link up for this. Reset your flash counter on ICS. This is actually confirmed working on CM10 as well(I've personally tested with success along with others who mentioned it in previous posts).
Not my app just linking to someone elses for those who are not aware of it and are concerned about their flash counter not saying 0. All credit goes to Chainfire

if you used odin to flash anything (which 90% of us root users did) it counts on the binary counter.
you only need to rest binary if you are doing the following...
-return phone to sprint for repairs (maybe they would catch it, maybe not)
-returning phone to samsung, (who does that???)
other than that, no reason to do it.
I can confirm it does work on tw based roms.

Thank you very much good sir. I thought that this was like a new thing that Samsung added that we can only flash a certain amount of ROMs before the phone locked or something.

Thanks for posting this. It's been confusing as hell migrating to the S3, especially when people use different nomenclature in each thread.
I mean, I have heard "flash counter," "triangle counter," "binary counter," and "custom rom counter" used in the same paragraph. When I first started reading through the forums, I thought there were at least two or three counters! LOL!
Hoppingfully yours,

Flashable ODIN tar to Stock

I was curious if there was any plan on making a flashable tar for Odin to return the phone to stock just in case you are unable to get into recovery and are trying to recover from a softbrick. Also would probably be the easiest way to get the phone ready for any warranty issues! Thanks

I'm sure if y'all donate and help bubby323 get his phone he'll put up the tar file.
He already did almost everything else without a phone.

No doubt. I'm very hesitant to begin rooting/roming this bad boy without a good stock rom to revert back to JIC.
That post was from October 25. Fyi. Not all of us can donate after spending 600+ on our own phones. Not being negative, just stating that this message can be read by other devs to get their attention. Why is everyone here focused on one dev when there are a handful now who are more than capable?

Yeah, that post is from October and he still don't have the phone even though he was the first one here and has done A LOT already without the phone in hand. If you don't know then don't chime in. You want something, well you gotta give something in return.
There were plenty of bounties going around for different devs and they got there's within a week even though they hadn't done anything yet for the phone.
I know there are a handful that are capable, but it's obvious they haven't done it yet, Have they?
FYI it was a suggestion for you to donate not a demand. You were asking to get a file and I pointed to the best way to get it.

It was just my opinion dude. I never asked for anything, just bumped the thread. it's unfortunate that he hasn't had enough bounty to get his phone while others did, but we still got a great ROM and kernel from them. They didn't run away with the money. I appreciate what bubby has done and have nothing against him. My statement about not being able to donate was just to share that I would if I could. I am aware I am not being forced. there are great devs here and wish they could all have devices to help us move forward. All we can do is wait, not rushing anything, but raising awareness for other interested devs that could help Bubby.

DONT WANT A BRICK? Check here

As of right now, the roms for your S3 are not meant to be used on other S3 variants. Bricks might happens or a soft one might happen. Before flashing a Rom make sure you are in the right development section an you read the entire op, twice. Until other devs or experienced users find a way to make them cross compatible, please refrain from using other carriers S3 roms.
I am working on this so that all roms will work on all carriers

That's slick!:good:
hard brick - a pretty paperweight (tonight)
should have been more careful, soft bricked the phone, 2 times trying to change the dpi.
once trying to flash a rom - the rom flash, took it to QHSUSB_DLOAD mode, not impressed but i'll take this downtime as a time to relax.
Another way to avoid a brick; Don't use a mod, theme, tool or ROM until it's confirmed by multiple people in the community that it's working properly. Read the last 3-4 pages of a thread

I agree with you, I ended up with a soft brick stuck at the samsung glowing logo after trying to unroot because I got a crack the front plastic near the headphone jack. I managed to reset the flash counter and install the rom but odin failed at the end. Now I'm hesitant to flash another ROM. Anyone else here waiting for JellyBean Rom? Definitely take your time and always make sure your computer installs the drivers before doing anything! I got BB to exchange it for me since they couldn't get it to boot and the mystery crack wasn't my fault. I only had it for like 3 days IN A CASE TOO. Happy Flashing dudes.
I'm just glad i saw a forum for the gs3. I would've bricked my phone after i got it.
Another bricker my own fault went to unroot to take in for service and went and loaded a wrong .tar file of the stock system. Anyway...not looking for sympathy..just wanted to say thanks for the forum that gave me the tools to fix my mistake

Addition of the Canadian Carriers to this forum

To Canadian owners of the I747 GS3, welcome to your new home! XDA has officially added your devices to this forum! As such, let's all work to make the moderators' and developers' jobs easier by doing the following:
Threads: Would all of you who have started threads in the previous forum that relate to Rogers, Bell, or Telus, please indicate in bold in the thread title that it should be moved here and specify which section you want it moved to.
Update - 07/30/2012: There are still a number of Rogers/Bell/Telus specific threads in the old section without any direction to move them. If you are the OP to any of these threads, please edit the titles to reflect which carrier and section they apply to so that they will be moved to the appropriate new section. Time is running out so please do this asap, as per this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1803287
Development: Being added to this forum does not mean that anything has magically changed from the previous forum relating to compatibility of your device. If, for whatever reason, an AT&T mod was not safe to flash before, it is still not safe to flash! Continue to read the OP, search, and post in the thread, if you are unsure whether something is safe to install on your device. You alone are responsible for the health of your device, so please exercise that responsibility fully.
If there is anything else that you feel should be added to this thread, or you have any questions, please feel free to either send me a PM, or post in the thread below.
This change was definitely the right decision, as most of us are already spending the majority of our time on this thread, given the almost identical nature of our phones. Looking forward to working with our US GS3 colleagues in building the great community this has the potential to be!
Excellent, thank you!
OP updated, please update titles of threads from the old section you want moved asap.
So far I see no problems with AT&T mods and rogers. Some minor issues. But would be nice to have our own section

That is correct. I updated, no problems, through kies. I then re-rooted using the Samsung Rom toolbox to flash cwm through Odin, and superuser through cwm. Finally, set the trip counter back to zero with the triangle away app (you can get it through Google Play). The whole process was flawless.
Update upgrades us to the latest modem, LH1, way faster lte speeds. Also some other minor ui changes to the stock messaging app and browser.

What! So upgrading will lose root access?
What per se is Samsung Rom toolbox if you don't mind me asking, is that JRummy's Rom Toolbox you're referring to?
Sounds like a bit of a process, I was so proud of myself to finally tackle installing cwm via adb. Now that was all for nothing?! Dang...care to post a few more details and links for those who are still a little shy of turning their phone into a brick? Pretty please.

Just root it using Odin and Chainfires auto-root method, I'm not familiar with the custom kernel as yet, so I won't comment on that. Once you root, you still keep all stock functionality, just have administrative rights, so to speak. If you're not too familiar with rooting, flashing, etc.. I wouldn't recommend starting right now with the Note 3, still early in the aftermarket development stage..

Considering all of the challenges that people have faced with Fierce bootloops - and for a while no way way to fix them, this is a situation where you would do very well to do some reading before you do anything. There are two root methods currently both are outlined in the Original Android Development Section for the TMOBILE NOte 3 - you can download everything you need from there - and I think it would be very helpful for you to read thru what others have done and experienced before you do anything - then you can make your own decision about which root method is best for your needs.
I don't mean to sound sanctimonious or anything but if there ever was a time that reading thoroughly first was a good thing to do - this is one of those times..good luck

What did my post have to do with your asking for a link? Well, I didn't want to be this direct but If you simply opened the Original Android Development thread and took less than a minute to read, you wouldn't need to ask for a link. You would see that there were two threads available that offered details that would give you exactly what you wanted. Two different ways to root.
In fact, in less time than it took you to write your post and wait for an answer, you would have had exactly what you were looking for.
My response to you was a gentle reminder that reading is a good thing.

The fact that you took all this time to write all that and ridicule me is ridiculous when it would have been easier for you to have just been nice and post the link like the last guy did. .. Sorry I didn't see it however easy it was, but that's why we are here to help one another. ..so please next time either don't comment at all and let someone else who wants to help, help, or just help someone out. ..It goes a long way and makes this place more civil. ..

I am sorry you felt I was ridiculing you. That was not my intent at all. THis forum is loaded with people who have have had major issues when flashing a recovery which is often the next step after rooting - there are more reports of people who have had to return their note 3 to TMOBILE than I can remember seeing on a single phone in a very long time. My Suggestion for you to read was purely intended to help you - it is easy to let others do the work for you - when often trouble could have been avoided by being more educated. What struck me as odd was the fact that it was so easy to find the link you were looking for - if you only opened one section of the forum in the Original Android Development you would have found it. But that is besides the point.
My comments were always supportive - and intended to help you. Period. I am sorry that you are so caught up in the " I want what I want when I want it "- that you can't see that. XDA is a forum designed for people to learn more about their phones and to ultimately try to get more out of them than you can get in a Stock phone...I have been in your shoes before and done exactly what you did when asking for a link - and have gotten a similar reply to the one I gave you. I am grateful it happened to me because it forced me to take a step back - do a little reading - learn more about the challenges others have faced and in the end, avoid those same problems myself.
Once more, I am Sorry you feel I was ridiculing you - couldn't be farther from the truth - I wish you well and hope you enjoy your NOTE3. Have a nice day my friend.

I may be wrong but I thought that using that option in Wanam Exposed was cosmetic only. It changes that to Official in Settings - but doesn't really effect how your phone is recognized as being 'altered" - LIke I said, I might be wrong, but that is what I heard. You might check with someone who knows more about this than I do
Good luck

That's what I thought also but when I tried to go to the ota update setting it told me that this is a modified system and when I use that module then it told me that there was no further updates... so I guess that made it work. ..
