Tablet and evo? Worth it?

I'm thinking about getting a honeycomb tablet, since I'm always using my phone around the house, I feel like id get alot of use outta it. But are they that much better than the evo, is it worth it to have both?
Just a note, I'm soon going to be overseas with only wifi for a year. I'm debating Between tablet or a tv since I don't wanna take the 55" led. Mainly for PS3.
Any thoughts.

I have multiples: Sprint Hero, Sprint EVO 4G, Acer Iconia A500, Viewsonic gTablet
The Acer is the only one that has Honeycomb (right now it is running 3.1...I was trying to get 3.2 to run, but I'm having troubles with Netflix on that version). It has troubles at times with touch (sometimes I can get it to run really fast, other times I have lag). Other than that, it's a good tablet and I use it for quite a number of things (more recently, Netflix). Honeycomb, however, doesn't have nearly the apps available as Gingerbread does (not sure why...I haven't had issues with the apps I put on it). Also, careful with this one as I already cracked one by pushing on it too hard. Battery life is pretty good on it.
The Viewsonic is running CyanogenMod 7.0.3 (Gingerbread). It works really well, too. Unfortunately, it doesn't have built-in GPS, so I have to use an external GPS for it. So, I do have problems with programs that need a GPS, if I forget to turn on the external one. It's heavier than the Acer, but it feels sturdier. Battery life is good (not as good as the Acer). I use that when I need two tablets (there are times for that...just not often).
If you can afford one, go ahead and get one. I would definitely root it and put a custom rom. You'll find XDA developers are quite a bit faster in getting the latest updates than the manufacturer.

This is out of character for me and I really hate apple to hell. lol. but go get an IPad, it's actually developed lol. and better quality than the androids. I REALLLLLY HATE apple. I wish apples would all die and never exist. But oh well. lol.

I also have the Viewsonic gTablet, running GtabComb 3.2. If you tether it to your phone's wifi, it can do everything an iPad can do apart from GPS and photos/video recording... but if you've got your phone, you can make up the difference. Plus, it has expandable memory and a USB port.

I avoided apple for a long time also. I have an evo, archos70 (love it), couple beater android tablets that will end up in the walls of my house for A/V and lighting control when I get it all how I want, and now an ipad. App wise, android is a huge loser here. Once jailbroken, the ipad is pretty nice for customization. It also kills all my other tablets except the archos for battery. It beats the archos even with a bigger screen, but not by a ton.
Long story short, yes. You are used to using your phone for access, a tablett is just that much better. Any good tablet.

the reason why the IPad is better than just about all the android tabs out is because a tablet is more like a computer. That is what apple does , they do computers. so of course they would have the know how to make a amazing tablet. Android is still a phone OS. even Honeycomb is still heavily based on a phones hardware. Don't get me wrong i wouldn't buy an Apple if my life was on the line, but they do make a good tablet. I personally have a Archos 70 IT and love it. No it doesn't have a tegra chip or GPS but it does just fine for everyday use. and if you want GPS buy a key chain Bluetooth GPS receiver. they are pretty cheep and most are extremely accurate. and if you are going to be taking it with you places it is way more portable than more of the larger tablets. Or you could wait a few months for the Gen 9 to be released with, i believe but am not for sure, has the tegra chip and GPS and a few more upgrades.
But all this is just my opinion.

Thanks guys, I will not own an ipad. I agree they are nice. But that doesn't change my mind. I just went and tried a Xoom. It was nice though I'm leaning toward the thrive because of the removable battery and full usb jack.

Well the tf is less expensive, but to get full use out of the ports you need to buy the dock. I am currently in a pickle deciding on the iconia or the tf. I have a coupon for 100 off at staples if you want. You can actually find it in the iconia or tf forums. I have a thread started in general getting comparisons of both.

Not an acer fan. Really it is only the appearance of the the thrive keeping me away. It def has the most features, minus the non ips screen and the huge charger. However all the ports and removable battery are nice. How can you hard reset the others if they freeze up etc if you can't pull the battery.?
I played with them all today briefly and thought the tf felt very sturdy and had a great screen so I'm torn.

First, yes, I do think that there's a place in my life for a tablet, a smartphone, and a laptop. At first I didn't think a tablet fit in, but I'm coming around. Still, nobody's quite gotten it 100% right yet.
Lack of USB in the tablet itself is a big turnoff for me on the Transformer. If it had that, I think I'd be sold on it. It's not quite as light or thin as the Galaxy or the iPad 2 (which I'm looking at for comparison, but don't plan to buy), but it's close enough. It feels great in the hand too. I'm not opposed to buying the keyboard, but I don't like that there's no USB support without it.
The Toshiba is noticeably bigger and heavier, but the full size SD and full size USB are both strong draws. I do not like the feel of it though. The rubber back just made it feel clunky to me -- not just heavy, but clunky. I do realize that getting the full size ports has to come with some tradeoffs.
Acer is tempting, but I've never considered them a quality brand. I dunno. Design's OK...not bad, not great. The USB port is keeping me from eliminating it.
The Samsung would be a very strong contender if it had even a microSD card for expansion. USB support via an adapter isn't as nice as having it built in, but it's acceptable. I might be able to live without microSD given that it does have USB storage support, but it's less than ideal. The design is great, particularly the metallic slate version -- I know it's not really metal, but the texture feels nice.
The Xoom's not bad, but it's a bit heavy and thick. Not as bad as the Toshiba though.
Lenovo's got a pair coming, and the version in the Thinkpad line appears to have full size USB and SD. I'll be interested to see how that one turns out. And HTC's got to have something coming soon in the 10.1" Honeycomb size eventually.

Iconia a100 vs Galazy Tab 7 plus

Hi all, I'm trying to make a decision on the iconia vs galaxy 7 plus. I've read and researched too much and now am totally confused.
Can anybody who has an opinion chime in on what the extra $200 bucks get me on the 7 plus? And why u went with the Iconia?
I'm willing to root (have a rooted samsung charge) to get any extras on the iconia I need. I tether with both barnacle and wi-fi tether.
Main uses are e-reader, amazon prime viewing, word press blog, office docs and excel editing, web surfing. I'm not terribly picky about screen quality but I do appreciate the AMOLED on my Charge.
What do you think? Your thoughts are appreciated!

I have never used the Galaxy, so I can't compare. But I use my A100 for ereading, web surfing etc and I am happy with it.

Keep in mind that until just about recently, the Iconia A100 was priced at 329 and the 7 Plus is 399 so the difference hasn't been that far off.
The Tab gives you double the battery life, much slimmer device, much better screen (viewing angles and the like) and faster processor. Play with both in person.
If the Iconia at least was pushing 6hrs of battery by default, I personally would have bought one seeing as I just started getting into ebooks of late. I also do think that 399 for the Tab 7.0 plus is also on the high end, but it's a sleek device.
If you can get the Iconia for 200 bucks less that the Tab, that's not a bad deal. Just have to deal with it's puny battery.

I had the Samsung 7.0 Plus for a month, but I'm a silver member at Best Buy so I get 45 days . What's good is everything works GPS, mic, ect. Screen and battery is great too.
What changed my mind on the Sammy. No ports, peel application is useless you have to be in front of every device and it's slow, there are some glitches with the HC experience that I haven't experienced with any of my other tabs (mainly when selecting text), when enlarging text on websites it only scales to the width screen size any bigger you have to scroll back and forth to read which is annoying (the Acer will make text large and fit it to screen which makes reading websites easy), can't change the browser to "desktop" in menu only "tablet" view, touchwiz is slick but unnecessary which brings me to my last point Samsung takes forever to update the operating system. They have so many devices. Acer has only a few tablets and ghastly said ICS in January which really means end of February.
Overall you can't go wrong with either. What I like about the Acer is hooking it up to my TVs streaming movies via network or Netflix "HDMI", GPS, quick charge takes a hour. HC is smooth, indicator lights and heptic feedback, camera flash.
FYI I would of kept the Sammy but personally I deal with it not scaling print to fit screen, it just makes reading easier on small screen. So $422 to get a better screen and battery I didn't think it was worth it. Especially when something new and better will be out next year. I could deal with my $200 Acer.

No doubt I change tablets like clothes. I actually went back to BBY to take another look at the Sammy because I'm pissed with the mic quality of the Acer. Still couldn't justify it. HC is HC.

The main thing with the Samsung is the screen an battery life. The screen is something I can live with, but if I were paying full price for the A100(I got mine for $189), I would probably consider the Samsung just for the better battery and consider the screen upgrade a bonus.
The battery on the Iconia is almost laughably bad, but for under $200 I'm not too unhappy with it and I'm not sure I'd pay $300 for it. If the $250 Best Buy price stick around for a while, it would be a bit more tempting. I'd say only get the Iconia if you can get it for under $250 or less. It's a decent enough tablet for that price, but the screen and battery have no place in a tablet that costs over $300.

Add weak wifi to the list of flaws on the a100. I got mine for $248 at Frys and I actually liked it at first. The screen isn't so bad but battery was pretty horrible. My phone lasts longer. Possibly battery drain was caused by it trying to acquire wifi signal half the time. Weak wifi make using it kinda pointless if you surf a lot. Half the time it doesn't connect so its like the old day where you have to move here or stand here to get even just 1 signal bar. My phone has full wifi signal and my other 2 tablets has atleast 2 bars.
The samsung 7 plus was my original choice since I have the old 7 inch tab but I couldn't pass up the $248 price for the a100. All the extra ports I don't think is really that necessary. I do use hdmi out on my phone but very rarely and the output is isn't that great when its on your tv. I really never had to worry about it with my older 7 inch sammy tab. I do like the allshare feature a lot and it works best on my samsung tv. So that's another thing to consider if you have a samsung TV. I've tried using 3rd party apps but they're not so great.
So if can get it cheap and can deal with the wifi then you may be happy with the a100. Otherwise I would go with the Sammy.

as I pointed out in your other thread, the WiFi issue may be something with your network. You also might have a defective unit, because the WiFi is actually quite powerful. In my previous tablet, I would sit at my desk with 5-10% connection, but I am normally at about 75-80% with this tablet.

The Samsung tab 7 plus is way ahead of the a100. The Samsung have a far better viewing angle and battery life. It has the ability to decode almost all hd videos you throw at it unlike the a100.
The negative points about the Samsung is that they use only mtp to transfer data.
Longer charging times.
No micro usb port. Uses proprietary cable.
I would get the a100 if the price difference between them is set least $150.

So I went to bestbuy today to check out their tablets and I was playing with the samsung 7. It's thinner and lighter obviously but man was it choppy. I didn't check but i think its still at version 3.1. Scrolling through home pages and apps list were choppy. And also hitting the + icon to bring up widget etc was choppy. I felt like I was back to single core. Hopefully this will all go away with 3.2.1.

There is an adapter that plugs into the 7+ charge port turning it into a USB host.

Keep in mind what you were using was a display model that quite probably suffered through kids not really practicing good computer habits? lol I have never once (yet) found mine to be anything but silky smooth and snappy as all get out. This processor beats the Tegra2 hands down!

I bought a Samsung 7 plus on the day before Thanksgiving and I was surprised to get a acer a100 on black Friday for $189. The Samsung is just a hair faster in browsing but I feel that something is really holding it back; it feels bloated. I like the screen and the battery is better but my one major disappointment is the remote software that comes with it; just useless because it does not have my projector listed
The Samsung 7 plus is not worth $400 but the Acer A100 is worth $189. Actually it's the best tablet for $189. So here are my 7 inch tablet rankings.
1. Acer A100 at $189 (A smaller A500 but display and battery are the weak spots). If $250 it drops to 2nd place.)
2. Kindle Fire at $200 (Very barebones but feels very good and display is nice. 512mb is the major weak spot)
3. HTC Flyer at $300 (Like the speed and build material's. Needs to be cheaper.)
4. Samsung 7 plus at $399 (Most expensive and feels bloated)
5. Nook color used (Tab is showing it age with a 800mhz single core. Must hack to show potential.)
6. Nook tablet at $250 (Never used this one)
7. Blackberry playbook at $200 (Never used this one)

We don't have the options that others seem to. The Samsung 7 plus isn't available here yet, and I'm sure it would be easily over $400. The cheapest I could find the Acer Iconia A100 in canada is $249 and it sold out very quickly. To compare, the 16GB Iconia is only $20 more in the US compared to the 8GB but it is $100 more in Canada.
We can't get the Kindle Fire, and the Nook is not available for Canada either.
We can get the kobo vox but it's an e-reader, not a full tablet.
So in other words, we get the shaft when it comes to 7" tablet selection.

It depend on how much money u have and wanna spend. Because they have different price ^^ A100 is only 300$, but tab is 430$.
If u dont care about money, i will suggest u buy Tab+
Because:
-Better battery life
-Better screen
-More lighter than A100, more slimmer
-CPU is just higher little bit, not important so far because tegra2 in A100 still good as far right now
And 1 more important thing: Tab+ will get ICS4.0 soon, but A100 maybe not
For me, my A100 is fine ritenow.
PS: any1 have problems when using Manga Watcher??? My A100 could run it, but after I hard reset, and reinstall the app, it not working anymore, foreclose. Same problem with 1 Vietnamese app to watching television online dont know why, maybe i will hard reset it 1 more time

I completely agree with this statement! It's my experience that the Samsung ICS update will come MUCH later than sooner. Last month, I finally got the Gingerbread update on my Epic 4G (Samsung's "flagship" phone from a year ago).

yeah samsung lags on their updates, i have the fascinate and it only got one update on it. haahaaaha.

GTab 7+
Agree the A100 is a fine tab despite rather serious shortcomings (had mine about 2 weeks before returning to BB) but now that the GTab 7+ has gotten root and CWM (kudos to gary9d) the options are far and away greater than presently available the A100. Achieving root is a good thing but without a dependable method of achieving Recovery when (and not if) something goes awry one runs the risk of a very expensive brick. Perhaps it just me but I've yet to feel good about many of the vendor supplied "recovery" protocols and have always relied on CWM.

Galaxy SIII Owners with Nexus 7's?

First off, I think this fits here better than the Nexus 7 thread, but if any mods disagree, feel free to move it.
Anyways, I've had my Galaxy SIII for about a month now and I love it. I came from an Atrix and everything about the SIII is great. But I (like everyone else) got pretty excited about the Nexus 7 release and now that my birthday is coming up, I'm trying to decide if I should get myself a Nexus 7 as well.
I'm really concerned it might just be redundant. After all, the SIII is super fast and has a big beautiful screen. Do I need 2 more inches of screen?
So any SIII owners who have Nexus 7's, do you find yourselves using one more than the other? And what do you prefer doing on your Nexus 7 over your SIII?

I haven't used my Nexus 7 as much as I thought I would ...so now it's in the marketplace. My S3 takes care of everything I need. I even watch netflix on it over the Nexus 7.

i have not been using my Nexus 7 as much. The only time I use it is when I run out of battery on my SG3. I hate the battery life on this thing...grrrrr it cost me $200 for a tablet I dont need

I personally use my N7 more than my S3 just to conserve my phone's battery. If I want to game or watch a video I'm more likely to do it on the Nexus.
I use TabletTalk via Bluetooth at work and take my Nexus + USB keyboard with me while my phone stays in my office if I get called to another area. I still use both but ultimately the Nexus saves my phone's battery for calls.
If something (like this post) is quicker because the phone is already in my hand of course I'll use the GS3
Also the biggest draw for me was having both allowed me to keep one device in a (reasonably) stable state while I went flashaholic on the other

Got a S3 & Nexus7 here, but the N7 isn't primarily for my use, so I can't make an accurate judgement.
In any case, the plan is to sell the Nexus 7 for a potential Nexus 10 in October or November, since 10" makes more sense for a tablet that stays at home mostly (and the NFC is rarely used). 4-5.5" == very portable; 7" == mehportable with a screen that's not that much bigger.
I might also upgrade my S3 to the Note2, but only if they're not using the more fragile & thin gorrilla glass2 that's in the S3. The Note2 is rumored to be the first device with samsung's flexible "unbreakable" display.

I use my N7 all the time at home. Yeah, it's only 2.2 inches, but trust me, it's night and day. If you got $200 to spare, I think it's worth it.

i using my Nexus 7 less, even when i had my GS2, but we used it a lot during a recent vacation trip to watch Neflix. I prefer to use it to watch MLB games with At Bat app than the phone. I also like it's bigger screen to read on facebook or news. The KEY thing to use the tablet, is to have it next to you all the time. If it is too far, you wont bother looking for it because you have the phone always with you and it does the job as well.
I wouldnt sell it, but i can see selling my wife's (who recently upgrade to an SG3 from an iphone and it is gonna get her N7 today) for her it would be redundant. Let's see.

I bought a nexus 7 but returned it a few days later.. the screen didn't seem a big enough jump from the sgs3 to be worth carrying two devices. And I still prefer to read on old kindle style screen.

My nexus 7 saves a lot of battery life on my S3. I use my Nexus 7 to play games, read books/magazines and surf the web instead of my S3. Especially when at home. My Nexus 7 has become more of my toy of choice so I don't burn through the battery on my S3. I think its the perfect combo.

Like people say the battery on the N7 is insane, you can easily get 8 or more hours of screen time of hard usage. I use my N7 to read books, browse, Flip board, was amazing for Olympics streaming and other stuff when I'm at home or office. My phone is from when I'm outdoors.
Works perfectly and since they both run Android everything syncs up perfectly

I have both the S III and N7, on the road obviously the S III at an office, home, coffee shop, etc. I use my N7 more, the N7 gets insane battery life, example on CM10 Trinity Kernel On-Demand/Noop 15-1500 I got 6 hrs of Idle time before my battery dropped from 100-99, had about an hr of screen time before it dropped from 99-98, with my N7 if I'm not driving I don't need to look at my phone, pair it with my S III on tablet talk and I can send and receive txts on my N7 and also pick and make calls with a bt headset from my N7...and if my N7 runs out of juice well I have a TF Prime in the bag, if my S III goes down I have a Nexus if all else fails I have my power bag to charge them all lol...

I love my nexus. Especially if you watch video or play games. May not be a big difference in screen size but its definitely enough. Like some others said if u have the money get it.

bought it and returned it. just seemed redundant. but the $25 play store crredit and the books and transformers was well worth the time lol.

Running the same combo and am extremely happy. Have tablet talk set up on phone to automatically connect one I get home, and I pretty much use the nexus exclusively while I'm home. Use it for surfing, sudoku, even as my remote controller, it has even gotten me to read more haha on my third game of thrones book! I brought it on a road trip this last weekend and was surprised with how enjoyable watching tv on it was when tethered to my s3. I love this combo!
Coming from an 4s and a asus transformer I would never go back!

My N7 is my gaming device and a browser. It games like a son of a gun. Even if the s3 will perform just as well I get two things.
1. Don't have to drain phone battery
2. Its more screen real estate for on screen buttons.
I had a long battle on if I should get a tablet and honestly I do not regret the N7 but that is me personally. You have to ask yourself if for what you do it suits your needs. For instance I commute to and from college a little over an hour each way. So for the trip I can watch movies or play games and when I get to school still have basically full battery on my phone for text/voice. An outlet is not always available and sometimes my days are long so that extra battery can really pay off for my needs. Additionally I am probably going to get a blue tooth keyboard and voila a very light weight notepad instead of my laptop. When you take the train every ounce counts. Just my 2¢

I use them for different things. I love the S3 but reading book and long web pages sucks on a screen that small (I also carry the galaxy note and find it too small to read book on for long periods). Not having WAN on the N7 does force me to use the S3 or the Note to get news update. I find that the N7 is a very nice compliment to the the S3. You just end up using them for different things. Just my 2 cents

I have both the S3 and N7. I was hoping that I would use my N7 more often but given the largish screen size of the S3 and the convenience of always having it in my pocket, I usually just end up using my S3. If my smartphone only had a 3.5" or even 4.2" screen I could see more usage for the N7. But the S3's 4.8" really does give it enough screen real estate where I often find a lot of overlap in terms of usage models between the S3 and N7. Also, I'm increasingly finding the lack of HDMI or MHL on the N7 to be a bigger nuisance than I had originally thought.
So I now have a Lenovo S2110 10" tablet w/ keyboard dock on pre-order. I got a killer deal on it for $400 including the keyboard dock and it has the same dual-core krait as the Qualcomm phone! Once that arrives I'll just use the N7 as a baby monitor device for my newborn.

I have the N7 and the SGS3; the native bluetooth tethering is awesome and low on battery for both devices -- used when I'm away from wifi. My phone stays in my pocket or bag, when I'm on the bus, since I can tablet-text and interweb connect via bt. I use an app that auto-activates the bluetooth tethering service when the SGS3 boots. I don't ever have to touch the phone to tether with the N7, since it only needs the tablet side to connect.
Also, the screen size of the N7 is, at least for my purposes, far superior to a 10 inch screen, which is just awkward if I'm lying in bed reading. It is proper book-sized. Not iPad-ish posterboard awkward side-reading size.
Since I'm working on my dissertation for a doctorate in English lit (I know, snooze), I use Evernote and Drive/Docs to sync between all of my devices so that I can revise on the fly. The N7 is much better for significant revisions in Google Drive, especially since a slim bt keyboard lives in my school bag all the time.
But Grindr is creepy, with the thumbnails scaled up for the N7 screen size.

How is it so far?

Hi all, haven't got one yet and still have my n7 (2012). They're are sold out right now at my local store. My question is what the title says. How is it? I haven't got the chance to get one in my hands yet. Is it leaps and bounds better!? I've read reviews and check forums and am still unsure if I want one. Any opinions are appreciated.

Just read some of the threads.
There are some issues with the screens right now on some devices. Still worth the risk as it is a huge upgrade to the 2012 Nexus 7. No more lag, unbelievable screen, lighter, and thinner. Definitely worth the money.

Well, I usually do not do reviews of mainstream devices, since that is well covered by the "big boys",
But I was secretly waiting for an opportunity to make some comments:
In short, it is an incredible tablet.
Much nicer to hold than any other tablet I've owned/tried. I really like how thin it is, and the texture of the back.
I handed it to my son, and he loaded one of these games where you control something using the accelerometers. He has a Nook Color (With CM7), so he has a similar device to compare it too. He immediately commented how nice it was to hold and play the game.
The screen is incredible too. Way more resolution than my old eyes need, but even with my glasses things look great.
Web pages look more Desktop-like than any other tablet, including 10 inchers. Page rendering is also desktop fast. (Actually faster than this 10+ year old AMD machine I am typing on now, even with lots of RAM, and Xubuntu 12.04, which I credit with prolonging it's life this long).
WiFi, Works great with solid connections, great speed and lots of (indicated) signal. (As compared to other devices).
An iDM5 combination bluetooth speaker, and keyboard paired over BT with no problem at all. I am also using an Apple magic mouse. All re-connect quickly too.
Works (as one would expect) seemlessly with my Chromecast.
Another big plus for me was Standard USB charging. Pretty much anything charges it with no problem.
Now the complaints:
Yes, it has stereo speakers, but they are not that loud or great sounding. Using the EQ in Google Music does not help. Attempting to add Bass only causes it to sound muffled.
I have a Huawei u9508 with 2 speakers on the back, near the bottom (close together). It gives me more volume, more bass, and more stereo effect (OK, that last one may just be a perception thing).
Take the stereo speakers out of your purchasing decision. As of right now, it effectively does not have any better audio than a (than some) single speaker tablet(s).
To be clear (pun) The sound is by no means bad, it's just disapointing considering all the Fraunhofer hype.
Lack of an SD slot almost made me not buy the Nexus. I really miss it. I have a lot of things that use those cards, and not being able to just slot them in the Nexus is a big hit.
I also wish Google would stop "Apple-izing" things. Android had USB Storage mode for most of it's life. I wish it still did. Yes, there are work-arounds, and perhaps it is "safer" not to have it, but it is a clear case of "Defective by Design", in my opinion.
I miss the standard Android (AOSP) Browser and Music Player. (See these forums for installing the AOSP browser, and recommendations for other audio players.)
I do like the fact that it is (except for the Google Stuff) bloat-ware free. It is a very clean, fast, and good-looking factory ROM (I'm an Android purist.)
Also, you know that the community will support the device for years to come, whether or not Google does.
I have not tried Qi charging or NFC.
Should you buy one?
Well, you should not buy any other 7 inch tablet over this one -- I think that is pretty clear.
It is just a question if you need a (another) 7 inch tablet. In my case, I really needed a new tablet. My Archos 80 G9 was (something I cannot describe here with out getting banned) on the day it was made, and I had dissasembled it many times to fix broken USB connections, etc. Lately it would reboot everytime I squeezed the case a bit too hard.
Alternatives I concidered:
Acer A700 -- Same True HD resolution on a 10" screen -- SD card slot -- Dolby Stereo Speakers -- NVIDIA Tegra 3.
Chinese iFive X2 -- Same True HD resolution on an 8.9" screen -- SD card slot -- Front facing stereo speakers -- USB charging.
Say what you want about Chinese tablets, but the iFive X2 was the only one that really met my requirements (desirements). If you believe the iFive website, and some of the reviews, it actually looks like the build quality is pretty good. I may still buy one.

It was the first thing I noticed after opening the box and even after 1 week, I am still amazed by the weight, the texture and how fast everything is... Switching between apps is so fun now

My God is it ever amazing. Such a huge upgrade over last gens model. It is a joy to do everything with this tablet. Feels and looks oh so premium as well. Unbelievable how it costs so little in comparison to other tablets. I don't want to type an extremely long review, but even if I did, words cannot express how happy I am with this tablet.

I was convinced last year that the original nexus 7 was too small so I got the iPad mini which was great for 6+ months. After I downloaded iOS 7 I thought what a joke ios7 will be and in general for traveling the mini was a major pain(loading movies, documents etc for offline use).
So recently I replaced my mini with a note8 for 2 weeks traveling and thought this is a keeper...then the new nexus 7 came out and I picked it up with the plans to return it after some testing....WOW I ended up returning the note 8 and keeping the N7!
No regrets...love the form factor even with a few hiccups (sometimes screen will just pause for a second and rare crashes).
SO I am using my N7 so much I might sell my Samsung s4 and get something cheaper (I.e. nexus 4) since it just sits when at home.

This is my first tablet ever. And the second android device. The first being HTC Desire, which after OC-ing didn't feel bad.
But I wanted something that could deliver superb performance without the whole process of rooting, unlocking and flashing. So I bought this one, and I can say that this one's the best I've used ever. I have had my hands on those iPads some of my friends have, but they don't sound all that convincing.
There have been no lags at all that I have been able to identify. But still, I'm planning on going through the fun of rooting unlocking and flashing process. Just because I'm a flashaholic.
Regarding the device itself, I have found that the display is more blue-oriented. It has a much colder display than my HTC Desire. But it does look good on it. The data transfer speeds are superb. No performance issues so far. Battery lasts about two days, since I don't actively use it, occasional wifi and browsing, but no more than that. I mainly read books on it, and have successfully devoured 5 books in two weeks (I'm an avid reader , never mind). Others have been facing Wifi issues, but not me. Mine seems adequate. I've got a 3mbps connection in my country, which is the fastest here
There is some dust on the upper left corner, but since there are no dead pixels, I haven't returned mine for the fear of getting a dead-pixels-infected one. I use the tablet without any external peripherals, apart from my custom made earphones, which give a good amount of clear sound with good levels of bass, even without any audio mod.
I don't use the stock things, no... That's right, I've never learned how to use those For music, I have PowerAmp, for movies, MXPlayer, for pictures, QuickPic, for internet, OperaMini, the legendary ES for file browsing, and upcoming root mode
So far, all these apps have been superb in performance at least compared to my HTC Desire.
I should probably be saluting Asus and Google, for this combined effort to hand us quadcore Snapdragon 1.5 GHz, HD display equipped, nice tablet for under 30k in my country.

Thanks for the in depth answers. Went and got one at office max Friday. Last one with too plus a 20% discount from my boys at drippler.. App. Haven't even opened it yet Lol waiting on my screen protector n case from amazon. Now what to do with the old one?

Doesn't have micro SD slot.
Doesn't have a snapdragon 800.
Doesn't have 4GB of ram.
Doesn't have a 4K screen.
Doesn't come with a chicken... Every top stuff comes with plus a chicken.

Pros:
BEAUTIFUL screen. It is gorgeous and very bright. You can't really say that about many tablets. It almost reaches to the level of my old Transformer Prime at 600 nits (it's about 583 nits at brightest)
Fast. This quad core S600-esque processor is so much faster than anything I've had for mobile. It's one of the reasons I upgraded
Cheap. It's $230 or $270. I got the $270 32GB which is roomy enough for my needs.
Long battery. I haven't had it for long, but I can already tell it is going to last almost as long as my TFP.
Small and can be held in a single hand.
REALLY good wifi reception.
GPS that works very well even inside
It's stock Google and will be updated as soon as KitKat or future Android upgrades come out. Plan for 2+ years of upgrades and support.
Loud stereo speakers
Support for practically any 3G/LTE data connection you'd like in the US.
Unlocked bootloader. You can modify anything inside this tablet.
Grippy matte-plastic back.
Sexy look, IMO
Thin and light.
Bluetooth Smart and 4.0 support. This will increase in popularity with wearable Bluetooth devices.
Cons:
Small screen. I think I would be happier with an 8" screen, but it's something I can live with.
No microSD slot. This is something that I can live with, and if you want, you can get a microUSB to microSD adapter.
Non-removable battery. You won't worry about this unless you are truly a road warrior. It should last you till you want to upgrade or longer.
No micro HDMI port. This, again, can be something I live with. You can use MHL I believe if you need it.
No TouchWiz or other OEM skins. Nothing I lose sleep over, just something for those who find the skinned editions of Android better than regular stock.
No camera flash. Doesn't bother me, I don't plan on taking pictures much with this tablet.
A few launch issues, maybe. It seems to be not too big (there are many users who probably don't have problems than the people who complain about it here) and is being resolved fairly quickly.
No vibrator. My hands miss the vibrations of my TFP, but it's ok.
No longer has a secure element with NFC. This means no more Google Wallet or other NFC-banking apps. You can still beam contacts and such. Not a big deal.
No 802.11ac wifi support. This isn't a big thing yet and is still just starting to get into mainstream routers. With the life time of your tablet, you probably won't see many AC routers until 2 years from now, and you probably won't be missing much. People still use .11g standards to this day.
The speakers apparently emit a hiss at low volume due to some digital volume reduction instead of using an actual amplifier.

Drop tests show no survivals. Get a case or else, which might increase weight and size.
There is only T-Mobile offering Lte in USA. Verizon clueless on imei. Checking at&t Lte again tomorrow, but no tethering regardless.

And in some cases, even a custom ROM just holds the issue at bay for a while...

For me two things are the keyfeatures:
Price + size. I had an iPad, big tablets are not what I wanted.

I don't think there are any real cons to this tablet. Just personal preferences. Even the speaker hiss isn't noticeable unless you have ear pressed against the speaker. Overall its a very solid tablet.

I've had no problems such as the aforementioned dust or light bleeds. Rooted out of the box, put carbon on it, never had a random reboot either.

The only con so far is that I can't use my 8-bitty Bluetooth gamepad. The new Bluetooth stack doesn't support it.

Actually if your lucky like me I dropped mine today actually the screen kinda popped loose a little it cut off my heart stopped lol (literally) but I snapped the screen in turned right on I almost cried lol only thing it did was deleted some apps I had weird but no issues now and still looks new
