[Battery review] Hyperion / Anker / Mugen - Galaxy S III Accessories

initial look
-the package came in yesterday, very well wrap, as well as most MUGEN battery. Charge the battery for 14 hour as per instruction (atleast 12)
-battery definitely heavier but not uncomfortable heavy its actually quiet the contrary, feels very firm on the hand.
-battery came in at 60%
Benching
-both core lock to 1.8
-screen on full 100% brightness
-ambient temp 72-77
-navigation on, tune in radio tune to 192kbp channel
-wireless on (discover mode)
-bluetooth on (discover mode)
will compare over the weekend as this process could take an entire day.
initial benching Look at page 2
Benching after charges
-Judgement: Guys i realize i dint have one of the app running hence thats the reason why the battery time was so high, but after a week this battery only last 2 hrs and 15 minute under hard benching...is it worth it? i dont think so.
-buy or no buy? better find something else

will do one today, still have my S2 so i will post it up when i get home. as far as link goes, you can get them on ebay or amazon.

Yea, the Hyperion works very very well & so does this setup:
http://www.wirelessemporium.com/p-1...ase-for-samsung-galaxy-s3-black-2400-mah-.asp
I have one of each, the helios is different in that it is thinner but longer & adds to instead of replacing the stock battery.
I like the helios because I can use the stock light battery with my Rock Quicksand case until it dies & then just snap the helios over it. The stock battery recharges from the helios.

My Hyperion battery was horrible, lasts me half a day, i returned it to amazon.... the OEM battery and the anker i got is similar... both have 30+% left at the end of the day

My lte siii gets 4 hour screen time and doesn't die. That OEM battery.

That's the interesting part. After battery calibration, I would love to see true performance on a completely stock phone.

OEM result are in....will post when HYPERION is completed

I picked up a cheap OEM-knockoff for quick-switches and emergencies. I love these super extended batteries (I turned my old Pre into a hockey puck of death with it's extended battery) but without supporting NFC it's a no go for me. I'm really hoping these third party manufacturers realize how much they are missing out on by not including an NFC antenna (I would gladly pay 10-20% more for NFC if they offered a real double-capactiy extended battery as well).

Test
-stability test running at clock 1.8ghz both cores are on, performance governor set
-Tune in radio were streaming 192kb station
-brightness is full on, 100%
-Wifi were on but not connected (discover mode)
-Blue tooth were on but not connected
-ambient temp is 74 degrees
OEM
disregard unuse in the begining. it was very slight, if you want you can call it 1 hour and 47 min
Hyperion
*FIRST ACTUAL FULL charge
roughly 25% more capacity
hyperion capacity roughly 2625Mah
more test will be conducted once i fully charge the Hyperion battery, factory recommended 3-4 charge before full performance on the battery.

lol yea good point...plus it really add heat to the phone...your basically charging that thing as you go, two battery feeding off of each other, the combine heat may cause problem for the phone or the user. i had one of those before and its not worth it IMHO

OP, I know this is off topic thus the request. Is there one out there, if not, can you put up a thread on TM speed test using your S3?

I did a litlle review of the Hyperion battery. I know you said no tweaks but here's the time I got with heavy use but I tweaked the hell out of it.

It's definitely a 3500mah battery. Just an typo I'd assume.
The back is thicker than the phone.. no thanks I will just continue to carry a spare battery.
These kind of batteries suck. If you need a decent backup just get an external battery. You can get an 8900mAh external that will last you more then you need. I always use mine when going on hiking or longer trips.. Generally where you would have a backpack of some smaller stuff. You do not need something like this for a days worth of common use.
I had one of those for my hero, get a big boost in life,. I went a three days without charge
What the hell is the point? I am getting nearly 20 hours of life out of my stock battery with two days of business use, and wifi. That looks awful as well.

You must not really use your phone like I do. Started at 8 today and its now 11 and im down to half battery even with overclock widget clocking it to 200Mhz when the screen is off
I bought one of these when the g1 came out and it gave me about 2 days off the charger. But im not sure how well this is gonna work with this phone. I really want to know how it worked with people who bought the smaller battery
If you dropped down that much you need to check your syncs and what using data. Is your phone set to cdma? I'm at 87% with 5 hours off the charger. Might as well solve whatever is eating up your battery first.

I take my phone off the charger around 6 every mourning and I don't lose the first bar till 1030 or so.that's with lots of text, internet, and some phone calls. Not a complaint here
I remember everyone was talking all this hype about the extended Seidio battery for the Mogul... I bought one... and was completely unsatisfied, I sent it back in, the mfg, acted surprised and sent me another one.. .Honestly even the replacement was exactly the same.. The Stock OEM battery lasted longer, and was more reliable.
Unless something has changed with Seidio since then, (which I highly doubt) I won't be "upgrading" my battery -
- I'm with the other member, I'de be more inclined to get some kinda external battery, or something. Too bad the USB connection changed on this new EVO 4g.. cuz my IOGEAR AA battery emergency charger is SICK! hmm.,.. actually i'm going to look for a USB converter, so that I can keep this iogear around.
Woah! I've been waiting to finally see the design on this as I've owned Seidio extended batteries in the past on other devices. The design on that back is a definite no go for me. It's horrific! I just can't F'up a rather well designed device with that hunchback. No way!
will people start complaining when they want 3 days of batter life? And do you guys not go home at night or day or evening (depending on when you work) to charge your phones? my phone with heavy use last about 8to9 hours.. and light to no use 20hrs.. i charge it every night..
i have the same battery used for the hero from seidio, so i hope they give the option to purchase just the back battery door. If not, i will have to wait for nakedcellphone from ebay to get his Mugen extended battery line (which have very decent door designs) and he sells em separate.
No need to drop 60 again, right?
had one for my htc diamond.. ive been checking the site everyday for that.. the back is bulky because of the battery size but like whoever stated.. you can go nearly three days without a charge depending on use.. i love those batteries
Wow. I guess it works for some. Personally I keep a micro usb cable at my desk at work. That + car charger and I'm never far from a source to charge my phone

Andida Battery 2000mAh killed my phone .. I had to take my phone to SSC

Andida Battery it kills my beloved SGS2. Guys Please be careful and do not buy this battery
I was happy today when, I received Andida Battery. I took out my back cover and I installed the battery. I tried to turn on my phone but it did not start. So I taught that the battery must be empty, so I plugged my charger to charge the battery. But it failed to charge. I installed original Samsung battery back, but the phone did not start at all. I was so facking annoyed. I went to Samsung Service Center, I told them my phone suddenly stopped working, without mentioning the cause of damage. They checked the phone, it took them two hours, then the technician called me and he said that the battery sensor indicator chip is damaged in the main-board and need to be replaced. He said they will order the part from Korea and it will take around 2 weeks to arrival at least. I was happy that they will fix my phone under warranty.
Edited :- Real photo of the Andida Battery 2000mAh uploaded. I was so upset and not in mood to take a photo of Andida Battery I own. I google it fast and attached it on my post that why in the photo it stated 1450 mA and For Oppo a100.

OH Man. Seem like this battery does coz hardware damage in most SGS2 when installed. I think battery sensor indicator chip is actually the chip which indicate battery status level. thats why your battery stats get screwed up.
Why do you say is an 2000mA battery when on the blister clearly states that's a 1450 mA one (even less than the original). ?
I don't get it. I only see "For Oppo a100" from the pic. Is there state anywhere its for I9100?
And the Chinese in one of the label stated the battery is insured, maybe U can claim them some money.

I really hope it doesn't spoil my phone though... I rooted it so chances are there's no warranty if I bring to the CSC. I don't really use the Andida battery often anyway. It simply serves as a backup.

Hi,
I had the same issue with mine but i hotswapped that batteries around. i.e. andida to samsung back to andida and it started to work again.
at the moment i have the andida one in my phone but try swapping it around and see if there is any issues.
Q) would your phone still be covered if my phone was rooted with custom rom?
PS: and i bought two of these one for me and one for my nephew.

thx for reminding, but i prefer to buy a external charger rather than an extra battery

hi there the spider-foot battery is safe. been using it as my main battery and no problems or whatsoever since 3 weeks ago
Have been using this battery for awhile. No major issue with it. Just that while stating 2000mAH, it's not really performing better than the stock battery. Worse performing actually.
Avg after a day's use ( light usage ), the Andida's remained only abt 50%-60% juice, while the stock can still retain abt 80%.
Another quirk for Andida, after charging to 100%, when I pulled out from the charger, it'll occasionally drop to 97% immediately.
Well, can't expect it to be better since it's so cheap anyway. At least it didn't blew up on me lolz. Nevertheless, had been using the stock battery since it performed better. This Andida is just a backup for me now.
Btw, TS, just curious, did u pull out the thin film that covers the metallic contact points? I read that some pple forgot to remove this film, and they thought the battery is a lemon =p.
the only one i can rely on is the original samsung extended battery (2000mAh). It's a little bit fatter (1mm more) but great!

[Q] Mugen Batteries for I8150

Hello
Anyone knows it "Mugen Battery's for Samsung" have battery's fits our SGW?
I was looking for something like 1800/2000 or more, as long as i don't need to change the battery cover.
"mugen-power-batteries.com/samsung"
They have 1600, 1700, 1800, 2000 for Samsung but i don't know if they work in our phone.
If you have other suggestions please share ;D
Search for "Mugen Power 1700mAh Extended Battery for T-Mobile Samsung Exhibit II 4G / Samsung Exhibit 4G / Samsung Conquer 4G / Samsung Transform Ultra / Samsung Transfix / Samsung Gravity Smart / Samsung Focus Flash [HLI-T679SL]"
It should fit.
I bought this one..
Fits our phone and is 1900mah
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200694662848
I doubt it's really 1900...

They have a sticker for 1900mah and they are really 1000mah...
How long have you being using that? can you put a pic with your best graph of the battery usage?
Ok guys,
So then this supposed 1900mah battery. I've noticed a clear difference in battery life since I put it in.
Here are some battery screen shots

And the chart...
These were taken at 45%.
I've used the phone as much as I would on any normal day.
Charging is fine and standard not faster not slower.
I don't expect to be lied to about what is actually in the battery when buying, so I have to take it for granted that the battery is in fact 1900mah. Though I do understand that there is a chance the battery is a fake. At £8 it's a no brainer.
All in all, I recommend the battery.

I can imagine this might be the case if you spend most of your time in a location that has a good wireless signal but a crappy mobile data signal => with wireless enabled, the 3G radio won't keep wasting battery life by trying to connect.
Similarly, if you leave wireless enabled when you're not connected to a wireless network, it will drain your battery because it keeps scanning all the time in the background.
That's my understanding anyway...
I can relate to the concept, it's my understanding too
Any how with 36% still left to go this is what the chart looks like now...
Staggering difference between the two days....
Id still recommend this battery however.... I get more than I did on stock
Sent from my GT-I8150 using XDA App
My battery (Stock) is doing around 2 days.
I don't play that much, an i have almost everything off during the night (sleep time).
i think that wireless is a big battery killer if you have it enable but not connected.
If its connected (not searching) doesn't make a big difference on the overall consumption.
On the first night of my battery cycle,
i have around 15 to 16 hours and around 62% left
on the next morning i have 3% to 5% less so i do a full day (24h) on around 55%
i end up on 15% to 10% on the following night (1 day, 16 hours) and around 5% to 7% on the next morning (2 days)
I think it all depends on what you do and what you have on... overall i think the stock is ok, but i would prefer having one a bit bigger (1800 +)
Anyway ty for the input m8
Oxyfly, sounds like you may not use the phone as much as others.

Is the 2300 a Galaxy S II battery? That's what I'm seeing in some goog searches. Looks like their replacement for ours is 1850. But if it fits, hey.
Lucky you, i had to stick a piece of paper on the top left of my battery pocket in my phone in order for the contacts to align.
There's actually a thread about this battery here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445938
So far I'm getting a little over 24 hours with little-moderate use on ICS passion.
In the wide majority of test I've seen of Andida batteries, they always add somewhere between 30-50% of their actual capacity. In short, just about every third party manufacturer overrates their batteries and only the OEM numbers are accurate

Lucky you, i had to stick a piece of paper on the top left of my battery pocket in my phone in order for the contacts to align.

I have the same with the Andida 2300 battery and my Vibrant. I cut some of the envelope it came in, doubled it over and put it along the side of my battery. A snug fit, for sure... but its working great. Worth the $20 imho.
only on second charge and getting over 14 hrs and still at 50%

I already have the samsung 1800mah battery. Is it really worth it to get this one?
Didn't work
I never got it to work in my phone. Finally got my phone to come on with this battery but when I plug the charger in my phone restarts. I have not been able to use it yet.

Apparently some people can't get the contacts to line up correctly and the battery doesn't work out for them.. so it might be a gamble for you.
1800/1500 = 20% increase
2300/1500 = 53% increase
I'm pleased with the batteries performance and understanding of the issues related to fitment. For $20...it was well worth it to me. My phone can stay away from the charger throughout the day.

I understand on paper it should be a 53% increase compared to the stock battery, but is it showing a 50% in reality? I know samsung batteries are legit and should be close to the labeled mah rating. I don't know a thing about andida. I just don't to end up with a battery that might not even fit and is only really putting out like 1900mah.
This is a huge improvement for me. My phone used to be dead after 10 hours unplugged.
Another oddity since putting in this battery, my GPS started to work and lock on again... maybe the pressure it puts onto the phone helped the contact...weird positive side effect for me (I've not bothered to do the GPS contact fixes yet)
Sorry I don't have the fancy Battery stats screens that others seem to have :\
My 2300 andida is running about 14 hours as well. I can get through most of the day without thinking about my charger.
I'm on ics one comsics rc3.1 and I get more than 36 hours on light use, more than 24 hours on moderate use and like eight hours on real heavy use. My heavy usage usually involved full account sync and surfing the web on the mobile network non stop with screen on 75-90% of the time.

i'm on passion, i might have to try out one cosmics if battery life is that great..
Even of the contacts don't fit, you can put paper on the top left corner of the battery socket. And somehow, the battery doesnt need the paper later on. I think the battery gets "used" to the battery socket...

This is my number 1 deciding factor for this phone, given how poor the life is of the S6 and S6 edge. The rest of the phone for both of those was incredible - if the battery life on the Edge+ is decent, then Samsung have almost won the year.
I am hoping it will get through a day on 4G. Waiting for the device to ship
please post on screen

I had the regular Edge and this phone blows it away in regards to battery life.

I really love how detailed the battery information is. When charging, it tells you how long you have left until full charge. The battery screen shows an estimated time and gives you options for power saving. I haven't had a situation where it was even close to dying. The only reason my battery is consumed so much is because I have bad cell service at my apartment.
I think This really would have been longer, but I hooked up to my laptop for a few min to install I drivers and set up sidessync.
Not bad

+1 to this. I switched from the regular edge to the + and the battery lasts way longer. With the regular edge, I used to have to charge the phone in the car on the way home from work. Today I left work and I still had 63% left.

This is my 2nd verizon phone. Samsung said the battery on my first was bad. I think this one is too. Battery life really blows compared to my iphone 6+. Is it bad or am I mistaken?

I currently have regular edge with 128gb of memory. I also have the green colour which I just love. However the battery is just killing me. I have to charge it basically every moment there is an opportunity for it or otherwise it will leave me without phone somewhere.
Why do you think that the battery is THAT much better? the battery capacity is just 400mAH bigger and the screen size is a bit bigger so it should compensate some of that. Ratianally thinking the battery should be only ~15% better but it is more than double.

I can't say for sure as I have only had the phone for about 5 days. Maybe it is the extra 400 mAh. Maybe it's just because I'm comparing a 5 day old phone (with a fresh new battery) with my several month old edge that had gone through countless charge cycles... I can't say definitively why the battery lasts longer until I've owned/used my + longer. All I can say is that it seems like a big improvement over the regular edge.

you should try to turn off the NFC or the bluetooth those things, they are battery killers. And try to use some of app to limit the background usage. It will works
Hi Chewing Gum, I've actually heard not to use task killers on the Edge + as they aggressively kill apps in the BG. I use BT for my watch so can't turn that off. And NFC is super minor. I don't want a phone where I have to turn off everything that makes it a great device so I can use for 20 minutes. Appreciate your thoughts, tho.
Any other ideas?
Does the battery really suck? I hope not.. I just bought mine.. I sold my OnePlus 2 and got extra money to buy it. I'm used to have a battery who lasts a long time with around 4h screen time
I can leave everything on my iPhone 6 Plus and use it heavy all day and still have charge left by the end of the day. This is what annoys me about Android, it's badly optimised where battery life is concerned. Hopefully M fixes this but I doubt it as L was supposed too. Annoying!

I'm getting 13 hours or more with over 5 hours of screen on time. I'm happy with that. I'm rarely going to be a way from a charger for 14 or more hours at a time. So for me this phone runs great! If I hit a charger hear and there where I can (in car, at my desk, etc..) I will likely never run out of battery. I use most of the phone's features daily. Not sure what is killing you guys tbh
