I'm thinking of buying a tmobile s3 off ebay, but I have a few questions about fraud. If I buy a supposedly new phone, can the seller report it as stolen after the 45 day buyer protection period expires? If the seller does do that, am I screwed? Buying from ebay would save me around $150. Thanks!

Help anyone? Would I be safe I asked for a copy of the receipt once the seller ships the phone? Or can they still report it stolen and I'm out $550?
Anything is possible. If you are worried and want to be 100% safe buy from tmobile. I am there is already another thread of reports of someone buying 3rd party and having issues with

Try swappa. Its safer, but I've sold phones on Ebay before. Everything went alright, I'm sure it'll be alright if you get one from Ebay. You can always filea claim if anything goes wrong, I'm sure Paypal would help you even passed the 45 days. Try getting one from a trusted seller too, with good rating

Thanks. Looks like swappa only offers the same protection as ebay. I'm thinking that if I get a copy of the receipt from the seller, I should be fine. Hope so..

Don't do it. Both GSM carriers, T-Mobiile and At&t are now blacklisting lost/stolen and insurance claimed phones via the IMEI number. They use to not do this before, and you could just pop in your SIM and the phone would work, but not anymore. Now GSM carriers have joined Verizon & Sprint in blacklisting phones.
Don't risk purchasing from e-bay or craigslist.

I'm wanting to pick up the unlocked version of the Galaxy Nexus. I will never give Verizon a penny, and I've read it works on both ATT and TMobile 3g.
I was thinking Amazon, but I don't know how the warranty and things will work. So, for those people with the unlocked version, where did you buy it.

You've got 5 minutes to buy from Daily Steals (above post)
I bought from Negri Electronics and it's been great.
In case you missed the dailysteal, try looking for on either eBay or Amazon. Try auction or whatever works for you. I won one auction for $585.05, so you should aim for that maximum amount. Or based on my calculation, you could wait another month or two and the price will go down to around $500. Good luck !
Got mine from Germany, Coated me about $538 with 2 cases and a screen protector.
If your in the states i order mines from Amazon.. choose One day Shipping.. got it the next. You could get free two day shipping also.. Its only $594
Click this link. All my friends bought theirs from these guys
If I had one bit of advice it'd be to discourage from buying on eBay or craigslist (or similar) if you at all care about warranty. I know it sucks and you'll hopefully never have to do it, but ordering from an importer will give you some peace of mind knowing you could send it in if you needed to. Importers have it for under $600 nowadays. Depends how much that's worth to you.

A better deal than dailysteals and that deal expired I believe. If you ordered a Galaxy Nexus from Newegg less than a week ago, you can try talking to customer service and see if they will drop the price to match with the coupon. In the past, they've done price matches if they changed the price within a week or so of your purchase.
Awesome deal.
Too bad it doesn't work on the white.
I hope this stays through the weekend
It's awesome, i have been waiting for such a deal somewhere
thank you so much.

Newegg is very reputable when it comes to good packaging in a well manner. The promo code is LIMITED and will not always be there. I would say just buy it, if you have a problem with it.. you can contact their customer support which is excellent.

Well considering 98%+ of the feedback are generally positive. I wouldn't worry too much about it. As long as there are no physical damage on the phone and the seal is on the screen, it doesn't matter.. just do a factory reset. That's just my own opinion but for some people this can be the deal breaker because a welcome screen wasn't displayed
Do not buy from newegg. I bought mine from them in dec. with extended warranty. Phone broke in feb. The phone was covered by neweggs 90 day warranty so i had to send it to brainstorm co. for repair.Brainstorm is where newegg gets their phones from. Called brianstorm 2 weeks after i sent the phone they told me it would be about 2 more weeks. Called newegg to see what they could do for me, they told me there was nothhing they could do because they dont have control of another company. So today i called brainstorm 25 days since i sent the phone to them, they had no clue when phone would be ready I asked to speak with manager was told there was none. Called newegg again they told me i should tell brainstorm to send me my phone back without repair so i could send it to extended warranty co for repair. What the heck is that! Anyway sorry for the rant but i will never buy from newegg again. Buy from Amazon.

Really? lol. You're kidding about NOT buying from Newegg because of this? Newegg is a excellent company when it comes to buying from their website and they're recognized for their fast shipping and great customer service.
Buying a phone from Amazon will bring you in the same situation. The best way to get a Galaxy Nexus (GSM) is to get it through Negri or Expansys.

I hate starting new thread.. but I searched and couldn't find anything.
Anyways, I'm looking into an S3 Refurb from ATT Online. Gonna turn in my HTC One X and get the Refurb (same price). But I wanted to know..
Do the Refurb models come in the Samsung S3 Packaging and all, or is it just ATT Packaging?
The refurb Captivate i picked up 2yrs ago came in generic att packaging.
You shouldn't try refurbs most of them have probs, try craigslist cheap prices for a new phone.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
Refuebs would come with warranty and I think they are 99 on contract now...
Vs craigslist 500 and no warranty and possible reported stolen and banned imei
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
Nothing wrong with buying refurb. 90 day warranty. My Captivate (as is Mrs Mike's) is a refurb. if you have to exchange it, it's the same process as with a new phone. And, if you do have to exchange a new phone it's usually a refurb that you receive (unless the device is so new that no refurbs were available). And the replacement phone has a 90 day warranty on it.

For me, Craigslist or Ebay.. But Craigslist is really really.. It's 50/50. I would rather pay more and just buy at a retail store or someyhing. So many people getting their phone's IMEI blocked after buying from CL and stuff. Try Swappa

+1 for swappa. I bought a TMobile 7.0+ and an i717 off there with no issues. I'm looking for a white collar collar job this fall when I finish working beach volleyball and I'll probably be buying a Note 2 off there.
I've bought a couple on local craigslist for $400 in like new condition. They do pop up from time to time. It seems the going rate in the Ventura area is $475. I stumbled across a Verizon one for $350. It had chewed up chrome bezel and battery door. I spent $25 on replacing them and got $500 for it. So don't be afraid of body damage as long as the glass is in good shape.

been looking and have found some a lil bit lower.. im actually looking at two right now
1st) is a Sprint Gnote2 already flashed to pageplus ( which is what i would do with it if i get it anyways) for $220
2nd) is Tmobile Gnote 2 clean imei for $300
cant decide
one hand one is cheaper and pageplus works off verizon towers which would give me good reception wherever i am but fastest data speed is 2mb down .. pageplus plan for $70 with 5gb data is the plan i would get on this...
the tmobile is more expensive , i would get the $70 plan have unlimited data but some complain about call quality and coverage and i use phone for work so not sure... tmobile data would obviously be alot faster and you could talk and surf and the same time which is not a requirement but a plus..
still trying to decide ...aaarrggghhh
Check Amazon every once in a while for deals through personal sellers. For ex. I got a brand new unopened and unlocked iPhone 5 for $480 shipped about 3 months after release just because of how cheap it was.. Used it for 3weeks or so and turned around and still sold it for 788 on ebay

Anything on Craigslist/ Ebay/ Amazon for really cheap- Less than $400 or so, I would consider suspicious. Especially the ones that look really new. Some people claim on insurance and the one they are selling you is the one they probably got off of insurance by ripping someone else off. Ebay is a little better because they have buyer protection- but still, it's only 30 days and the original owner can report lost/stolen, claim insurance after 30 day period.
Bought a Note 2 for $500 brand new and a week later, got it blocked.
I have heard that if you meet with the seller at a Tmobile store, they'll be able to switch over the IMEI- but make sure it's not on a payment plan or you'll be screwed even if you switch over the IMEI..
I'm on AT&T here in the United States and I have purchased the Unlocked Galaxy Note 7 Dual Sim International Version (HERE)
The seller stated that it has a 1-Year Samsung Warranty, as all Samsung devices should have. But, being how expensive this phone is and how the gorilla glass 5 is apparently a scratch magnet, I was considering purchasing not only a case, but a protection plan. Who has experience with 3rd party insurance and protection plans? Any recommendations or experience?
I only know of the following:
SamsungProtectionPlus (only if I purchase from a Samsung authorized retailer)
SquareTrade
Mobile Rhino
Though I've never personally used them, I've never heard bad things about Square Trade. I have several customers that have needed to use Square Trade and have always given positive feedback on them

I would go Square Trade too. I've never used them for claims but never felt like I would have an issue if I needed them. I did add this phone to my carrier insurance which is more expensive deductible wise but also covers loss and theft. Perhaps ATT has something similar?
Sent from my SM-N930P using Tapatalk
I had Square trade for the note 4. When it was water damaged they told my they could only send it of to be fixed as they did not have any replacements. If it couldn't be fixed they would pay their determined amount. Not too bad overall but you could end up waiting a week or longer. Customer service is little hard to understand at times.
It took about 2 weeks to resolve my daughters claim.
That plan was 6.00 per mo with a 75.00 deductible
Also they DO NOT cover theft or loss

I just emailed their customer service and they told me that they do NOT cover international phones. I really loved their prices and philosophy on warranty service.
Try www.worthavegroup.com They are an independent insurance company, not one of the big guys, but I know they cover smart phones. They are big in the institutional world. They are the only ones we are allowed to use to cover our kids school assigned technology. (My kid has an iPad given to her by the school and if she breaks it we owe the school $600) It has a $0 deductible on the ipad, but the smartphones have a $50 deductible. Not too bad.
Several of the kids have shattered screens, and there have been no complaints that I have heard.

That was my dilemma. No insurer's want to cover international phone especially if they don't have manufacturers warranty. Even upsie said the same thing. They have so many positive reviews that I risked it and trusted them. They said I would get it by Friday and it turns out I won't have it until Monday. It's shipping from Singapore, so maybe they want us to ship the phone back to Singapore and then they would warranty it? I'm interested in that. It seems to me like the international version of the phone cannot be warrantied at all.

Here is the reply I got from squaretrade.
" Thank you for considering SquaeTrade.*
SquareTrade does cover cell phones purchased brand new as long as the warranty is purchased within 30 days of the phone's purchase date. You can also switch to SquareTrade if the phone is insured through the carrier's insurance at the time you purchase our plan. Having said that, B&H is one of our resellers. If you are planning on purchasing the phone through them, it is highly recommended you buy the SquareTrade plan through them as well.*
You can simply request one of the representatives there to assist you with locating the best plan for the phone and they will be able to do so.*
If you have any more questions, please feel free to reply to this email. Otherwise you can also visitsquaretrade.com/help.
Thank you,

So we should be safe I hope.

They are kind of contradicting themselves. Because Samsung won't warranty a phone bought out of country. I wonder if they are assuming that B&H as a reseller always has phones that have manufacturer warranty.
