I picked up my GSIII yesterday and was wondering what method of rooting I should be using.
Thanks!

Thank you, I think triangle away is working now so it shouldn't be necessary to use that method.

Ya its up to how comfortable you are rooting with adb. If not just use the easy method and triangle away after.
I have Sprint used the original method day 1 and have now Triangle Away back to 0.

I'm so sorry to bother you and thank you in advance for your taking the time to read this. I flashed the EL29 kernel for my epic 4g touch through ODIN. After it exited download mode, the splash screen now says that samsung gt-19100 with a yellow triangle. Is there a fix for that?
You can get rid of the triangle with the triangle away app from the app store, or by getting a usb jig. Rwilco's awesome website gives the step by step process.

I can't even get boot. I just now got into recovery. It installed Rogue ET recovery, so I'm gonna see if backing up my rom will work. Thanks!
Update
Was able to get back into the phone after flashing in a rom, but splash screen still says gt-19100.
You'll have to buy a USB jig or update to ICS and just use triangle away.

Yep, triangle away only works if you on ICS. The triangle is samsung's way to show an unofficial kernel was flashed to the phone.

Thanks! I was able to get it back to stock EL29 and get rid of the triangle once the kernel was reset.
Glad it worked for you.

Just in case
This is why I always keep a stock GB (or ICS now I guess) ODIN image, nothing like good old stock to keep the soft bricks to a minimum

No kidding.
I soft bricked my phone last night by flashing a mod on a wrong rom so I had to unroot and then root it again but now in download mode it says I have two custom binaries. And now my recovery is all jacked up. So what do I do? How do I delete it?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
First go to the stickied thread named SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 QCOM TOOLKIT V2.3 under the development forum and download that. Use the toolkit to Odin to stock (using download mode on phone)... Then use it to root and custom recovery... Once the phone is working and rooted, download triangle away from the forums and that will reset your counts
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
I am already rooted via odin so downloading the triangle off will fix this count and will it fix my recovery being finicky?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
Triangle away will fix the binary count. You could probably also use the toolkit to re flash recovery if you're sure that's all that's wrong with the device. I tend to be more cautious but I am a part time dev so YMMV

Triangle Away fixed the problem and I reflashed my recovery. Now everything is running perfect. Thank u very much. I need to be more careful and I guess this is my lesson haha. Thank u again. I'll hit u up with a thank u.

I had the same issue. I just got my S3 yesterday and rooted it within an hour of having it, following QBKing's instructions. I should have read a little further and didn't know that it increased the flash count. I used Triangle Away and it worked great. Counter is at 0 now.
Rooting my at&t Galaxy s3. When i get to busybox installation step it says I'm not rooted. I flashed CWM and installed superuser zip Have superuser app in app list. So what am i doing wrong?

Hi there. Rooting has a bit more to it than installing SU from recovery. You should head over to original development and use the CF auto root method by chainfire. That should get you where you need to be. Just remember to reset your flash counter when you're done with triangle away. Hope this helps.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
You need the supersu app instead of that superuser, especially if you are on Jellybean. You could download and flash it from CWM from here.
http://download.chainfire.eu/315/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.25.zip
Or, you could use CF root, but I don't think that it is necessary.

ok so went and used the tool kit and it worked like a charm. I just got my GS3 yesterday coming from my good old cappy. I'm gonna miss her! So Just a simple root will require Triangle away? I thought only flashing a ROM would tick the counter.

It was that way on older devices, but now the counter ticks when you use Odin, which is what the toolkit uses to root your device. Hope this clears up any confusion.

I will always recommend supporting such a loyal developer, however, it's available free for XDA members on the main Triangle Away page

i had my phone rooted before i had to send it into the factory for warranty work. I get it back and do a clean wipe as i did before i sent it in. I have rooted it according to odin but then it says its not rooted.
I have tried every method that has been on the sites and have spent the last 4 hours trying to get my phone to root and nothing at all.
I tried to root on different pcs with odin and still not a damn thing. I searched and use the guides on the site but the phone wont take a root for anything. sense i cant get it to root anymore should i sell it and buy a new one? IF anyone has ideas im open to it. pic is me trying to install cm.
What method u using?

So did you flash the rom from the link? Rom there already root injected and you can also use Odin from link provided.

Post what ROM you're on.
Triangle Away says it's always best to do it on a stock ROM.
Had the same problem, but there is a guide in the general section on how to unroot..... by DJ intrique (hope I spelled right). I followed that and worked beautifully.

Backup your current ROM.
Flash back to stock ROM and stock kernel. Even the debloated stock ROMs you find in the dev section should work,
Run triangle away.
Verify it worked.
Restore your backed up ROM.
Should take 10 minutes for this whole process, not counting the time to download the stock ROM.
Sent from your phone. You should be careful where you leave that thing.
So after all that can I go back to my custom rom doing a re store?

Yup.
The counter only goes up when you flash something through Odin. If you reset it to 0 and flash 500 things from Recovery, the flash counter still stays at 0.
So if I wanted to Un root and return to stock how would I do that without tripping the flash counter don't I have to Odin?

Flash stock in odin.
Root.
Run triangle away to reset counter.
Uninstall triangle away.
Open SuperUser and click the untoot option.
Reboot.
You now have a stock phone.

You need the stock kernel & stock recovery I believe. CF Auto Root gives you just that and makes the process very simple.
