Housing Moding - myTouch 4G Accessories

Hi everyone,
just found this on Ebay, housing for Mytouch 4g...just wondering if anyone already changed it on his phone ! The white one look really better thant the stock black housing
http://www.cafr.ebay.ca/itm/Replace...539068?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item2c66c1d13c

You would have to be mega, ultra careful with the tiny ribbon cables and such. Also, the stock battery cover is metal for a reason, so you'd probably want to get the right battery cover.

It has several contacts points that act, I believe, as ground for several components including the screen.

I had changed mine it's pretty simple just take time

[Q] Replacement Front Housing Parts?

Does anyone know where I can find replacement parts for the front housing.
Really just the silver trim is scratched up and I want to replace it. Can't find anywhere that's selling it though.
Global parts (FFC vendor) has a lot of different parts for I9000 that fit ours. I wasn't looking for the bezel but I was just their looking for a replacement plastic cover for the circuit board which I messed up putting the FFC in.
Yeah but it comes with the i9000's buttons on the front >.<
Vibrant front housing:
HERE
If you're just looking for the trim piece, my only advice is to keep an eye on their Vibrant page, could be updated later, who knows.

Yeah if you can get the I9000 housing for cheaper, by all means do it. I doubt the trim piece is any different.

Its for a Fascinate, but he specifically shows removal of the trim (around 1:30 in the video), and I cant imagine it would be too wildly different.
Big fan of your AOSPish roms, by the way.
o.o the Fascinate's bezel appears to be attached to the back housing ? O.O
Vibrant seems to be quite a bit different:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOvt6atrin8
Seems near impossible to get to that bezel lmao... Maybe I'll just use some sandpaper and sand it down lol
this work?
Is this what your looking for? just the bezel?

I'm worried that the bezel itself isn't a separate piece and the Galaxy S's different buttons will make it incompatible lol
I believe it is one piece. Some posted pics a while back. Try searching bezel.

Changing HTC One X housing from Grey to White

I bought a grey One X, but decided that I should have bought the white, and so I purchased the rear casing and sim card tray from ebay.
All installed perfectly and my phone is working without issues, however the thing that did hit me as strage was after rebooting device with the white casing on, the handset reported a software update for the device (not an app update) of which I said ok.
Can't see any difference in what it reports in About this phone in regards to Software, and so was wondering is it possible that by changing the rear housing it also changes the CID of the device ?
Using CID reports HTC__001 ??
I know this is probably a newb question, however this phone is my first serious Android device other than my old Nook Color.... So if i'm making gaf's please excuse them.
Thank you.
Cool to know that you can change the outlook like that. Might want to buy one back just in case i want to try grey or white gets dents. Thanks!

Could you please post a few pictures of how your phone looks with the new housing? Preferably from the front, rear and side.
I've been considering something similar as well. Glad to know it can be done.

I'll upload a few for you shortly. Though it just looks like a white one X
Here you go folks.
Basically genuine HTC housing replacement, very simple to do. You have to order the sim card seperatly so make sure you order one at same time.
The phone pops out of the housing with a little bit of prying and put a little bit of sticky tape on the volume rocker and power button so that they dont drop on the floor when you remove your phone from the housing as otherwise you could end up missing a little part.
The trickiest part is popping out the speaker from the old housing and dropping it into the new. I used a pin to pop it out of the hole it sits in and then just dropped it into the new housing.
Squeeze your phone in and it will click into place. remove the tape on the outside holding the volume rocker and power button and hey presto new phone
And if I can do it, anyone can
Cool, thank you!
Is there any tutorial for the replacing?
How much did you payed for the case and the sim tray?
Link to where can I buy one for my one x?

Also note the back cover has self adhesive areas that need exposing before installing, and the inside of the camera lens has a blue plastic protection film that needs removing. Because it is clear plastic covering the self adhesive areas it can be missed and your back cover will not be fitted as well as the original.
Self adhesive areas are:
1) The whole area that essentially covers the battery has a plastic film cover that needs removing to exposed the adhesive.
2) The USB hole has a raised support that has a small plastic strip that needs removing to exposed the adhesive
3) At the bottom left and right sides of the back cover inside edge are small sticky areas, again the plastic film needs removing.
In terms of software updates because the back is changed, it was just a co-incidence, the back cover has no intelligence in it to alter serial numbers etc.

Phil

Yep great advice
It's easy to see where the self adhesive areas are simply because of the bright blue sticky plastic that was on my white case/housing inside.

Yes I would think the white is much more obvious. If you have a new grey back, the film doesn't stand out at all.

Where did you order your parts? On ebay I could only find parts for e720 (or something like that, the chinese one x)
If you are opening your device, I would highly recommend that you read the Official HTC WiFi antenna repair guide as you might want to add those strips in to strengthen the contacts.

Bought the phone on impulse second hand for a good price,. So saved €289.99 off the regular sim-free price on expansys.... When there was that much of a saving, I wasn't going to argue about the color
(checks Expansys pricing, actually it was €309.99 price difference between what I paid for the grey and the white sim-free model there)....
Just a bit of info for you regarding opening up your One X (housing removal). This is part of an email reply that I received from HTC warranty in the UK, when I asked about opening up my One X to check something.
We would not advise you to take the phone apart as this will invalidate your warranty.

Replacement back cover

Hi Guys,
From youtube videos (I know great source of info) it seems that removing back cover on HOX is quite easy.
So two questions come to mind first one no one makes entire back cover replacements in many colours?
Also anyone know where I could get the least original white back cover?
I want to sell my HOX and camera lens is scratched. Does not interfer with pictures due to location of it but still.
Cheers,
Luka
I found a lot of them when looking for a black and white one.

it's not that simple!!
at first you will void your warranty as soon as you detach the cover...then believe me that it's very difficult and you could damage the inner frame or other components, since there's a lot of glue that make you feel the phone very solid in your hands...
but believe me that it's a real pain to change the cover...the most difficult part of opening your phone...
however you should do it just if it's stricly necessary imho...
Nah it's really easy. Takes 10 mins to switch over. There is no glue really. For the most part it is clipped on.
I say go for it. I got my white original cover off ebay for £30.
my camera lens also got little scratched. Is there any chance to replace it only? anyone with the same problem?

I repaired my touchscreen and my htc was full of glue and sticker anywhere...it was the hardest part for me to detach the cover!
However could you tell me where to buy a black one low cost and new?

squeak
My One X has a creaking corner, where the original back cover seems to give in a little. Any guesses if getting a replacement (because the camera lens also has a few scratches) would help? Maybe the fit would be better... or is the creaking problem something related to how the phone itself sits inside the cover, and getting a new back would be pointless?
Has someone experiences with cases from Hong Kong?
They are cheaper and include the SIM Tray...

After putting the whole thing back together, doesn't the phone start creaking, especially at the bottom part?
No
Opened mine 2 times and the bottom fits better than when it came out of the box.
Only opened it to clean the camera lens from inside and always used the same cover it came with.

I just replaced the glass on one wed and the adhesive will mess up when u heat the glass and seperate it from the screen. I cleaned it with alcohol after i rubbed it off with my fingers. Im not sure what others are using to hold the glass down but i used double sided scotch poster tape. I folded half a half then once i stuck it to the glass i cut what was left on the edges. Then when i put it back together i heated around the sides with a hair dryer (same thing i used to seperate the glass from the screen) to heat the glue on the tape and rubbed the edges. I did that like four times just to make sure it stuck. It held rly good and the screen was very responsive and is still working great. Just be sure when u seperate u dont rip the ribbon at the bottom where the home button is. Good luck its not that hard to do just go slow seperating so u dont trash the screen.

Mine was dropped and shattered. There are a few very small blue tint marks on the screen now. Im guessing that means the actual lcd screen is damaged?
I think I can live with the tiny blue areas. I would like to replace the glass though.
Any to stay away from?

Theres a thread here of an adhesive that has to go between the glass and lcd or you can possibly damage the lcd if you press to hard.

Note II Bezel Mod??

Have been thinking of trying this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZuYzQrIHjA
Has anyone tried it and have any info on how it looks and whether it has stayed as good or corroded/got worse over time. From the video it looks really nice but not sure how it is in real life. I don't really like the look of it currently so am willing to give this a go if I get positive feedback.
Do it anyway - you can replace the bezel fairly easily right?
Yeah true. . But still don't wanna ruin it if it ends up turning into a mess
I actually was thinking about removing the chrome entirely by either using this method or by using sand paper, just not sure how that would turn out to be since i havent seen anyone else doing. I think for starters ill try this out tomorrow as i truly dislike the chrome look plus its a good time to cover up those scratched with more scratches.lol. Thanks for this video.

I did it and it actually looks really nice. And also seems to improve grip slightly hopefully it'll stay looking this good.
I used the green part of one of those washing sponge things. Don't apply too much pressure, start very lightly and work up the pressure when you feel confortable.
By the way, with the method I used it doesn't have any scratches at all.. just that lovely brushed chrome look.
okay couldnt wait so i went ahead and did it.

Its alright tbh. Thing is I always have the Samsung Protective Cover+ on coz without the cover the phone just feels flimsy and very delicate. But yea otherwise the bezel is still better looking with brushed metal look. I would only recommend to someone who already has a scratched up bezel.

How about painting the bezel before brushing? What do you think? Is it possible? My devices bezel has some white points where the grey paint is gone.

I wouldn't recommend painting over the existing chrome paint as it would be uneven and not really worth all the trouble especially if it already has some chipping. However, you could try plastic/rubber spray paint you can easily find at the hardware store. You can always take those things off easily leaving the chrome paint intact. Another option is to completely remove the chrome paint with perhaps a nail polish remover or something; you'll be left with a nice uni body like polycarbonate housing

That, I tried. But after I created a 1 cm white opening the fact suddenly hit me! Removing the paint on the buttons was not so easy and some grey paint would remain.
