Guys I tried updating to ICS using the method in the first post here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1768479
OK guys I'm a little worried
I downloaded the file re-named it to "update" went into recovery and it asked me if I wanted to updated and i hit the up key for yes.
It says it's downloading and I have a green android and it's telling me "do not turn off target!!"
This has been going for over 30 minutes.......I'm getting worried. Is this normal? If not how do I fix this?
Not sure if this matters or not, but my phone is currently not activated on any sprint phone #. I'm getting ready to sell it.
Noob/Rookie/Retard mistake
I was pressing volume down and power to go into recovery.

Hey all,
I've been having trouble updating my Epic 4G Touch to the OTA update that's been recently rolling out.
After it has downloaded, the screen displays a green android robot, with a triangle next to its head containing an orange exclamation point. It remains frozen on this screen until I hold the power button, at which point it aborts the installation.
I've tried many things to fix this because it has happened 3 times, including doing a factory data reset, and formatting my USB storage. However these haven't helped.
Has anyone else had this problem, or know a solution?
Thanks!
BTW - I'm not rooted.
You r rooted and can't do an ota update because u do don't have stock recovery on your phone. So at this point just update the phone your self. U will find the new modem in the dev section. Please remember to us the search button this question has been asked before

Yeah, I've noticed this problem for rooted users, but it's strange, because I've never been rooted.
Sorry can't help u then. Good luck

Im having this same issue.
My samsung epic 4g touch has a softbrick issues after starting an over the air update Samsung Epic 4G Touch Software Update - S710.10S.FH13 (MR 4) on august 24th. The message that shows up on the screen after the firmware failure is "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. please select recovery mode in kies & try again." Everytime the phone boots up it goes directly to the same firmware error message. I have tried to use Odin 1.85 to reflash back to Gingerbread 2.3.6, but Odin would freeze at the installation of modem.bin. Now the kicker is that my phone has 1 hairline crack, which voids the warranty on the phone and they refuse to look at my phone at all. If anyone have a website or retail service that can fix this issue please let me know. I would like to say thanks in advance to any advice or guidance you can give me in order to fix my phone.

I just received a notification that an ota is available. (FH13). I am running blue kuban w/fh13 modem. If I keep clicking "install later" at the prompt will that keep from installing the ota? If I reboot at some point will the update install automatically? Don't want it at this point in time.

Came home last night and the wifes phone is stuck at the Odin Mode screen. Try to power it off and on, remove battery, nothing works. It will only go back to the odin screen.
I don't know what happened, but I can't get the phone to do anything.

Can you push anything by Odin? Might want to try a full package and see what happens.
Also, what happens if you hold power + vol. up for 30 seconds?

Took out the battery for a while and was going to Odin it at work. Got to work it booted up fine. Charged it up to 80% and everything looked fine and it was showing it was on FF22 (I think thats what it said)
Started playing with it, seems the home button keeps thinking it is being pressed and held down. Tried to reboot, it came back up with 2% battery.
Something is very wrong...
Really messed up when i tried to root my phone with THE SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 TOOLKIT [SNAPDRAGON EDITION]. I'm sure i followed all of the directions to the letter but at the end of the flash my phone rebooted into a "soft brick"(Black screen and solid blue led) .Hindsight is truly my ex and I just know i should've flashed cwm before attempting the root. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please dont tell me i effed up my christmas present before i could even put a new rom on it..
Edit: Using the toolkit I can still get into download mode, and (I think) I flashed cmw onto my phone. Although Im unable to enter cmw manually and I can only enter cmw by rebooting the phone through the toolkit.
If you still see lights opened like an LED then you arn't hard bricked which means there's still a way out.
ODIN! thats might help you out bro

Don't worry, the same thing happened to me when I used that tool to root my phone. First off, don't freak out, its fixable. If you turn your phone off, then press and hold Power + Volume Down + Home, you should be able to get into download mode. If you do, just use this to flash a rooted version of stock onto the phone and go from there. If it won't go to download mode for some reason, come back here and let us know and we can go from there.
Hey there guys- pretty sure this isn't already posted, but apologies if it is.
Anyway, I bought a used NoteII recently, and there seems to be some weird stuff going on. I recently tried accessing download mode, but each time I do I get kicked into the stock recovery. (There's a little android on it's back with a red triangle with an exclamation mark on it if that helps)
I've also tried using Kies to restore, but after using Firmware Upgrade and Initialization, it says that my device doesn't support that.
Any help is appreciated!

Nope. Nothing. Still get the Stock Recovery menu.
All I want to do it revert back to stock.
From the stock recovery menu, I can apply an update.zip; could I just flash a stock zip?
If you have an external sd card, yes.

You might also try the tool found in this thread. It will get you back to stock and can help you move ahead with rooting etc when you decide to again.
Hi Everyone
Im panicking at the moment that my phone might be bricked.
Ive been running Resurrection Remix 4.0.6 for a while now and today the new 4.0.7 was releasted. So I downloaded it and the GAPPS onto my external card like usual. I flashed the ROM fine but then realized that I hadn't printscreended the way id configured my 5 screen with all my apps. I couldn't remember how I did it so I decided to restore my nandroid backup, printscreen my screens, and then put the new ROM back on again and then configure my screens to the way I like it. But after restoring my nandroid backup, TWRP said that there was no OS installed. I then tried to restore again but it failed instantly. TWRP then said the phone doesnt seem to be rooted. do you want to install Supersu to root it? I clicked yes and then the phone turned off. I turned the phone back on and a screen came up saying do you want to install a custom ROM? I clicked yes
and now its on this black screen with a green android man on it with a caption underneath saying 'downloading'. It says in small red print at the top that it is in 'odin mode'?
But I have no idea what its downloading and from where? As surely if theres no OS then I havent put my wifi password in or anything.
Its taking ages so I dont even know for sure if its doing anything. Im pretty certain its stuck. But if I do a battery pull my phone will be bricked.
Can anyone please help me solve this issue? I would be extremely grateful.

You are in "download mode" which is used for flashing with ODIN. Turn off the phone and restart it by holding power button, middle button and volume up. then try reflashing your rom in recovery.

You are welcome, hope it goes well
Just a FYI: rebooting with the combination of power button, middle button and volume down goes into "download mode" where you can use the program called "odin" to flash your phone. Just so you know... google ODIN for more info if you are interested. It's usually used to properly flash a newer version of android, say when you want to upgrade from Ice cream Sandwich to Jelly Bean... etc
If it helped, just hit the thanks button

Yes, I have used ODIN previously on my phone. I should have known the difference between getting into download mode and recovery mode, stupid mistake. Thanks for clearing it up for me. Ive now flashed the new ROM I was trying to put on in the first place and everything is working great. Yep, Ill click the thanks button
And now delete this thread ! The thread title is extremely stupid.
It was your lack of knowledge which almost ruined your phone, not TWRP.
I can't believe that you even managed to flash anything onto your phone. Do you even know what TWRP is ? No need to answer...
