[ROM][OFFICIAL] CyanogenMod 9 Nightly Builds for SGH-T999 - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

CyanogenMod is a free, community built distribution of Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) which greatly extends the capabilities of your phone.

This is the official nightly build of CM9 for the Galaxy S3 on T-Mobile. It's not a final release yet, but it's perfectly fine as a daily driver.
Known issues being worked on:
* LED is a little derpy
* Camera occasionally freezes
Install instructions:
1. Install ClockworkMod Recovery for "d2tmo". Sorry, CM cannot provide support for other recoveries, although they may work fine.
2. Get.CM for "d2tmo"
3. Reboot into recovery and install
(or just use ROM Manager)
Google Apps are not included in this ROM. You'll need to find those yourself if you want them.
This build is nearly complete and should make it into the 9.0 final release on time. We are also actively working on CM10 for this device, builds available soon! Enjoy!

Yes !!!
The godfather had landed !
Any chance of you guys including some kind of file explorer ? Pretty please Steve...........

Wondering if Data transfer between Phone and PC is fixed or if just affects everyone differently.

All is right in the world again.
Thanks Steve. Flashing the latest nightly now

Steve said in the unofficial nightlies thread that he fixed MTP in the 0717 nightly so flash away!

Its the last entry in the change log at the bottom.

On my Nexus S, it was always recommended to do all the wipes and flash the ROM and then while still in CWM, flash the gapps. I see different instructions here and there for the S3, like flashing the ROM and then rebooting, then going back into CWM to flash gapps. Any advice for this one? Thanks!

Flash rom + gapps + kernel(if you want to). Don't need to reboot first and flash gapps.

I can confirm MTP is fixed in the newest nightly! :good:

im on the latest nightly 20120717 and MTP isn't working for me everything else seems fine tho

MTP is working fine for me.
The only things that are kinda buggy - camera with focusing, the LED light, and the way the phone handles notifications when you are listening to music.

ok so mtp works fine for me when i use my nephews windows computer but when i use my mac it doesnt seem to work

MTP never worked on my mac. I had to download Android File Transfer and install that on my mac and put the phone on PTP. Idk if PTP works with the newest nightly cause I have yet to hook my phone up to my mac.

Wonky CWM?
So, I've been testing out all the ROMs and nothing beats pure google (debloat all you want, touchwiz sucks ass). So I've been testing out the CM9 builds. I noticed that no matter how many times I'd flash gapps (the 20120429 version) it seemed like it wouldn't take. By that I mean that other than Play Store and sometimes Talk, no other Google App would appear. It's not a big deal because I have TB of all the apps I use, so I'd just install them from backups.
BUT, on the newest nightly (coming from a wipe after rerduM), I noticed that my widgets did not show up. Not one of the widgets associated with the apps I had installed from TB were showing up. So, I thought I'd wipe again and try it. Still the same. Has this happened to anyone? Am I missing something here?
Also, is there a way to clean out the /system partition? Doing the factory reset is fine and manually formatting /data too, but is it possible and/or advisable to wipe the /system partition to sort of "start anew" with no artifacts from previous ROMs? Do installer scripts do this automatically? If so, why do I still see some setting from previous installations when I wipe and install the new nightlies?

Are LED notifications working properly yet?

Eh, sorry. I just looked up someone reported they aren't working correctly.

How many of you have gotten your IMEI's deleted after flashing the nightlies?
I'm really tempted to flash (I haven't even rooted my phone yet), but I just want to make sure I wont lose that number.

you won't lose your imei
Bunch of conspiracy theory nonsense. Backup the folder if you are the paranoid type

This has already been stated over 100 times in the cm10 dev thread. you should probably go look over there dude.
Seriously? I couldn't find it -_- well that's great this is my dads phone too, so now I gotta go back down to cm10 -_-
Heads up going back to cm10.... Restore from a backup if possible. If you just flash using a cm10 zip and 4.1 gapps you may get an AOSP keyboard FC loop. Only way around that, if it happens, is to reflash stock with ODIN, do a factory reset and then flash cm10.
This has happened to several people, myself included, I just used my TWRP backups and it worked perfectly.
Side Note: If using TWRP restore, you will need to use the built in file manager and copy your /sdcard/0/TWRP folder back to /sdcard/TWRP. 4.2.1 modified the directory structure to make way for multi user support.

I actually did that but I was able to adb push the new gapps to my sd card and install them. Oh wait read that wrong nevermind thanks

[Solved] Flashed cyanogenmod, stuck on boot screen

Hey guys, I'm really new to rooting, flashing roms, and Android in general (I've used iOS since 2007 until a month ago... please have mercy on my soul). I have an AT&T GN2 that I would like to remove the bloatware from, hence why I began investigating rooting, but it's snowballed into my desire to try out some of the amazing ROMs that the developers here have produced. Since the Note 2 uses the Exynos 4, I rooted using the ExynosAbuse exploit and downloaded Titanium Backup to freeze the AT&T apps. So far, so good.
However, I am wanting to get into how to flash custom ROMs, like CyanogenMod, so I downloaded the CWM RomManager and flashed the CWM Recovery. I downloaded the CyanogenMod 10.1 release for the i317 model (here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024495) and the latest gApps package (for 4.2.1), and flashed both from CWM RomManager. When it rebooted, it showed the CyanogenMod boot screen, but it appears to be stuck there. I'm not sure what to do at this point, and am hoping I didn't brick my phone. Is there anything I can do at this point?
Use the three button combo to get into recovery, should be volume up, home, and power, and then wipe data or install a stock rooted ROM. That should help get you to a bootable stage.

When I booted into recovery, I got the CWM recovery (which is a good thing, I suppose). I wiped the cache, and then installed the CM 10.1 zip and gApps zip. However, I think I still need to wipe data/factory reset, right?
So, at this point, I've:
1. Rooted the device using Chainfire's ExynosAbuse apk (super easy).
2. Installed RootChecker (success) and TI backup (froze bloatware apps).
3. Downloaded CWM RomManager.
4. Flashed CWM Recovery.
5. Downloaded CM 10.1 port for i317 (the AT&T GN2 model) and the 4.2.1 gApps zips.
6. Chose to install ROM from SD card in RomManager, added both CM 10.1 and gApps, and only selected install (did not wipe cache or user data at this point).
7. Received blue CyanogenMod boot screen... excited... but it remains on the boot screen. Sad face.
8. Removed battery to power the device off, placed battery back in, and then booted into recovery mode (CWM recovery).
9. Installed the CM 10.1 zip and gApps zip from SD, then wiped cache.
10. ???
Wipe data factory reset. Wipe cache/dalvik. Flash cm, flash gapps. Reboot

Okay, I booted into recovery mode and fixed permissions... the keyboard still crashes, which means I can't type anything. Do I have to do anything with the kernel? I didn't wipe the dalvik cache, should I have done that?
EDIT: wiped dalvik cache, didn't do anything... apparently, this was a fine release so I'm not sure what could be causing the keyboard issues.

So what ROM are you using? I just picked cyanogenmod because I've heard of it before, but I would like something that works. Is there a way to add another ROM onto the phone's storage, as I don't have an SD card... And since I can't type anything, it's not like I can download it from the phone's browser?

Plug it into your computer and see if you can mount your internal sd. If you can download a new rom to your computer and transfer it to sd. Did you make a backup before flashing?
Im just running stock rooted for now.

Well, I'm downloading CleanROM right now. I also downloaded another cm 10.1 file just in case, perhaps it's because I downloaded it on the mobile Chrome browser that I'm having problems? I also downloaded a kernel from the thread to help with performance. However, if I can't get these on the phone, it doesn't matter. Since I'm on a Mac, I have to use Android File Transfer, and it isn't registering my phone, unfortunately. I may have to go out and buy a cheap SD card and throw the files on there. It may not hurt to have one around, anyways.
Text yourself the download link to CleanRom.
And chrome shouldnt have made a difference. I take it you didnt make a nandroid backup before you flashed cm?

No... I thought that a backup of the original ROM was made when flashing CWM recovery, but I am a noob and that did not happen. Unfortunately, the browser doesn't even work! So I cannot text myself the link for the download. I should be able to flash a zip file from a micro sdhc, right?
Flash the right GAPPS, the crashing keyboard is a symptom of incorrect GAPPS. The December one is for 4.2.1 only, which is what CM10.1 is based on. Make sure you flash the right GAPPS with the right CM version.

Oh... crap. Is there any way I can get the correct gApps on my phone? Ugh... I'm going to have access to a Windows machine today, so I can download the correct GAPPS and put them on my flash drive. I can still put it in USB debugging mode, but will the PC recognize it? Android File Transfer software for Mac does not recognize the phone any more, so I'm a bit limited in what I can do. Unless, like I said before, I can just pop in an SD card with the correct file.
Just grab goo manager from the market and dl the correct gapps to your phone. Either that or use your phones browser. No need for a pc. Boot in recovery, wipe cache and dalvik and flash correct gapps. Should be gtg.
Edit: just saw your browser isn't working. Goo manager's your best bet. Could always try another browser from the market as well. Good luck.

Running ASOP ROMS on N7105 Intl but lost camera functions

[AOSP - damn typo!] Hi, hoping someone has already experienced this or can point me to the right thread
I've flashed, reflashed, redownloaded, flashed again (full wipe via twrp, daverik/cache cleared each time) with
rombox, carbon ROM, pa3 and liquid smooth - all of which are great ROMs, but my camera won't work on any of them.
Restored original backup and camera then worked - reset/wiped and reflashed and camera gone again
Tried camera MX app, getting a camera error with 'restart might fix...' but it doesn't
I'm using the t0lte versions, as available in goo.im
Any ideas?
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda premium
Further - I download end several different gapps packages to test if that was the issue, with no luck.
Also tried flashing the android 4.2 camera .zip that I found here in the forums - about to try manually installing that instead of flashing.
Weird that no one's come across this issue? I watched the n00b video when I signed up he he, can't be the first to have the camera bomb out
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda app-developers app
Does anyone know which .apk files relate to the camera?
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda app-developers app
I would bet it's a driver problem, so what I would do is this...
* install a stock ROM
* root it
* use titanium backup and backup everything including system apps
* back up the kernel - or download a stock samsung one
* install the new ROM of your choice
* install Ti backup
* restore the camera app from Samsung and any likely system components
then try the camera
if it doesn't work, try installing the stock samsung kernel

[Rom] [4.2.2] Xylon 05.22.13

Second time compiling for this device, I am sure there will be errors/issues...
Xylon AOSP
Download : Xylon(k) 2.7.7 - 05.22.13
Standard gapps package is recommended. BaNkS gapps package is also a good choice.
I do -not- own this device so please be patient. This was not pretested in any way this time, so please report back promptly about any serious issues so I can try to get them resolved and so other users don't have to suffer the same fate.
for more information on the rom, please visit http://xylon.androidvenue.com or look at other xda xylon threads for pretty pictures and such.
This is -not- straight from source, there are many manual edits(additions, changes, removals) done after the rom is finished building before I upload it.
Thanks to the Xylon team for the sources.
Thanks to Chainfire for SuperSU

I wasn't able to download anything from the market either. I used latest Gapps for JB and also tried BaNks. It recognized that I had 20 apps to restore and even showed progress bars for downloading, it just never did. I did full wipe both times I tried different Gapps pkg. If I could download anything at all, this would be my daily. Blazing fast. The smoothest rom I've seen on my ns4g.

let me guess. were you on wifi? because i just tried again on regular 3g-4g and they all started downloading.....s-l-o-w-l-y... And then when i turned wifi back on they all stopped again. Turned wifi it back off and sure enough the progress bar started moving. I can download other things via wifi dropbox links etc, so im pretty sure its not the wifi here at home. Plus my laptop is on wireless and can dl stuff, but for some reason the market on the phone wont let me dl anything over wifi. very weird.

thanks man.would a logcat be helpful in this case?
Couldn't hurt. And I'm open to suggestions on how to fix things and potential improvements. I am by no means an expert or real dev and as said before not owning the device makes it even harder to test out potential fixes. You can either pm it to me, or post it in this thread. Probably the thread way would be better so other users could potentially help out.
When reporting issues, please only do so from a clean install and not after restoring data. Also mention the gapps used.

Regular apps are installed apps from Google play or a 3rd party app store. System apps are apps that are installed in the system partition (come with the phone.) Restoring data from most system apps can cause problems (I have yet to find an answer is to why.) From installed apps, not so much.

Dastin, thanks for your hard work with this Rom/Phone. Also, I know your a busy guy with school and your girlfriend and other phones you develop with. I just wanted to say, you're a blessing to us Epic 4g Touch users. Thanks for pouring so much time and hard work into this phone. Much love to you. I'll make sure to donate to you when I get an income, as I am a Senior taking full time PSEO and never had a job before.
Long story short, I love what you're doing with this phone. I really enjoy your roms you have created! Much love to you bro!
Great job!:good:
My phone keeps trying to locate GPs though I turned gps location off. Any idea how to stop this?
Also, cool rom dastin!
Great ROM, I loaded this weekend and love it. Everything working great so far! Thanks!!!
I have to say thanks for this rom. I just loaded it this morning (along with the blasphemy kernel). So far it's running great. No reboots, lockups or any other issues. As a side note, I have been having trouble with the phantom menu and search presses on other roms including stock, all stock based roms, and every other AOSP based rom I've flashed. I've had to disable the soft keys and enable the navbar on all of them to fix this issue. I don't know what the difference is but this is the first rom I've flashed that actually worked without the phantom key presses. Thanks again. Looks like I've finally found a new daily driver.
Does anyone know if dock audio or speakerphone work with these builds? Prior jelly bean builds lacked functioning dock audio and the mics didn't pick up audio correctly in speakerphone mode such that callers report not being able to hear you loudly enough.
how do i find out if i have the kernel with the MMC-SUPERBRICK-BUG?
i am on stock 4.0.4
Thanks.
4.0.4 has the brick bug, to flash this you need to use a safe kernel

You have to use mobile Odin to flash the safe kernel, what I use is the el29 direct boot kernel from here : http://www.rwilco12.com/downloads.p...ls/Recovery Kernels/GB/Noobnl Direct Boot/TAR

Does this just replace the kernel? All my apps and data should still be there?
Yes it replaces your current kernel, but you won't be able to boot back into the ROM once you flash this so make sure you have the files ready, another thing is that you need to back up your apps and data because you need to erase your data to flash the ROM, I would invest in titanium backup, if you can't afford it use helium.

i am confused. I will be in the current rom to flash the kernel using mobile odin. How is it that I wont be able to boot back into the ROM? Do i need to flash another ROM after flashing the kernel? what ROM did you flash after the kernel?
El29 direct boot kernel is a kernel for just flashing Roms.once you boot into it you have to flash a ROM.if you don't and choose to reboot system it will just reboot back into the el29 kernel.so you have to download the ROM you want and gapps if using a aosp ROM.now using an aosp ROM you need an ICS modem.

Don't unzip it. Just use Odin to flash it.
I don't think 7zip can handle tar files.

Dont take this the wrong way, but you are not ready to be flashing this rom. You really need to check out the other forums on how to correctly flash for this phone. Especially since you are on 4.0.4. One wrong move and you will have an expensive paperweight on your hands.
Go do your homework and ask these questions in Q&A thread. You will get lots of help there.
