I'm buying a galaxy nexus in Canada from kijiji (a private listings site). The seller claims that the phone is only 5 days purchased, and factory unlocked, also sealed. How can I tell if the product is genuine? without opening the box.
There should be a sticker/seal on the box. However, I was able to open mine (direct from Google) without breaking the seal. The phone should have both front and back plastic on it as well.
Any way to tell if its been opened before? or registered under an account from the serial number?
Open and boot it up. Scroll around a little. You'll be able to tell if it's real.

How much is he asking for it? Normally if you purchase something and don't need it you return it, unless he bought from the states for $350 and is selling it for more up in canada.

I know on CDMA Android phones of you go to settings> about phone, you can see a phone number there. If it's 0ed out it's new. If not, it's used. Not sure if this applies for GSM phones too.

I am thinking about getting this phone but I am not due for an upgrade yet, so I have been looking at eBay and noticed people actually putting up unopened boxes of this phone. How are people doing this? I know people would sell their upgrade phone online, but I thought it had to be activated for 24 hours, so the box would be opened. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Just want to make sure I won't be having any problems if I buy one. Thanks.
What version are you looking at? I don't think you have to activate a Verizon phone when you buy it. I never had to

I am looking at the Verizon version. Hmm, so is customer support full of crap when they say you have to activate it?
The only time I have been told I had to activate a phone while upgrading was when buying through wirefly.. but it could also be that people are opening extra lines on their accounts and getting the phone at a discount and selling it on eBay.
Ok thanks.
I bought a galaxy nexus from best buy (bell)
And my phone keeps getting random reboots. Do I go to best buy or call Samsung?

when did you get your phone? If it is within best buys return policy window, take it to them. If not, you can still try them or Bell.
Look for one of the stores with a technical support area and they can either replace your phone there or at least get a new one ordered to you.

well I'm in the UK so what I say may not apply here
I ignored my carrier and went straight to Samsung.
I'd go to Best Buy.
Hello, i've been using a tmo SGSII for a while.
I was going to change into GN when it comes out for TMO later.
but it seems i've been waiting forever for it, and i'm giving up.
I'm trying to buy a unlocked GSM version of GN.
i'm thinking of buying GN from here
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Gal...4353?pt=Cell_Phones&hash=item2c642a7221#rpdId
just because it's in US, and it'll be easier for me to sent it back if there's any problem.
Do you think it's okay for me to buy GN around this time?
or should i just wait for the SGSIII in... like Q4? (i don't mind buying both of them)
plus, i heard unlocked gsm GNs' are OS locked, where you cannot upgrade the software via OTA.
is this true? or this doesn't matter? would i be able to get an OTA without any problem? or do i have to use a 3rd party program? or i can't simply do it?

Sorry, not true. Just because you're buying it from a seller in the US doesn't mean that Samsung Europe will honor your warranty. If you want a guarantee (or as close to a guarantee as you'll get with a grey market device) of having a manufacturer warranty, choose a reputable US-based importer (not a random eBay seller) that will help facilitate the warranty exchange with Samsung. Samsung Europe will (most likely) not deal with a US customer directly because the phone is not sold here.

That's your call. No one can tell you what you want or what to do. Read up and make a choice.

This is not true... Not sure what you're talking about. The entire point of buying unlocked phones is so that you can still receive the updates OTA without waiting for carriers to approve them. The Galaxy Nexus receives OTAs just fine.

i'm not talking about a warranty. i never get warranty, for anything. i take care of my electronic devices well (more like worshiping god lol. every single one of electronic devices that i ever had lived way over their life expectancy)
i'm talking about the amount of time for the phone to get to me. it should be way faster than from the overseas, correct?
also, it says i should get my money back if i return it within 7 days, and only one or two day is needed for me to figure out if there is anything wrong with the phone.
also, feedback of this seller is quite good
oh, can you tell me any reputable us based importer just in case ?
how does this look??

(√°б° )√ Y U NO BUY AT AMAZON?
But seriously: if you ask such a question in a galaxy nexus forum everybody will tell you to buy the GNex you should decide by yourself and your needs and not by that what others tell you (free will you know? )

Well its more of a question of buying a phone with out the original box, there's a cellphone store near my home they have a few galaxy note 2 for sale, according to them its brand new, but they either have no box or miss matching numbers, my question is how do they get these phones? I already bought the n2 at a tmobile store and I sold my box to that guy for $20.

Agreed. If I dont break the seal or see it done infront of me thats a used item. If they wont sell it used, take ur money elsewhere.

Have close friends at cell phone stores that hook me up. Cell phone stores with lots of traffic sometimes take the phone out of the box and use the rebates for other customers or whatever reason so that's why they take the box (since it has the serial and necessary items needed for rebate). They usually only do it for long time customers and close friends. Since they have a good amount of traffic and since the Note 2 is also relatively new they have a high chance of people buying the phone without opening/renewing contract. Like others say, inspect the phone thoroughly and bargain since it's open box to make sure that it's a good buy.
I'm looking at a used T-Mobile Galaxy Note 3, unlocked, tomorrow.
What should I look out for, so I don't get landed with a problematic unit?
It's had a fall, and the seller had the screen replaced. Front camera is not working.
It's very, very affordable, and I'll never be able to buy one at full price.
I just don't want to find out that a whole bunch of other hidden stuff is not working, after handing over the money.
And the Note 3 is pretty complex, compared to my old Dinc2.
Is there a "test mode", where hardware errors would show up?
The front camera replacement is really cheap, and I'm handy with fixing things, as long as I can find a good guide, so I'm hoping to end up with a fully functioning phone at the fraction of the price.
Of course, there will be no warranty, but at least I won't have to worry about Knox and can root the phone.
The biggest thing I can think of is a blocked IMEI. You should probably have the exchange done at a T-Mobile store and have them check it. Also have them note it in your and the sellers accounts that ownership has changed so he can't call tomorrow and claim the phone stolen and get it blocked b

Thanks! I'll definitely meet outside a T-mobile store!
There are too many dishonest people selling stuff on craigslist, unfortunately.

Also be sure to confirm the seller has paid off the device if they stop making the payment after selling it to you the device will get blacklisted.

Just make sure there is no EIP left on the phone and also have T Mobile transfer the IMEI to your account there and then. Also for the test do type in *#0*#
Meet INSIDE the store please. And make sure its not a fake by verifying the serial number in settings and also back of the battery.
