My SGN was unlocked and rooted, and had superuser and CWM installed! I downloaded Jellybean from here and flashed it using CWM and that worked great, except now I have no recovery. I can reboot into Jellybean OK but it won't go into recovery & CWM no longer functions. What can I do to get into recovery?

I get the Android with the word Yes! Then if I arrow down to recovery, it reboots and go to a little Android with a red exclamation mark.
"I downloaded Jellybean from here"
What Jellybean? Stock? Custom ROM? What?
If you installed a stock Jellybean image, you won't have CWM anymore, you'll have the stock recovery (Android with red "!"). If you have a custom ROM, you should have CWM still.
with a root explorer app, go to /system and rename recovery-from-boot.p to recovery-from-boot.bak and flash CWM again.

Have I lost root? I can't see anything to do with system files or I don't know what I am looking for. I am using FS file explorer or Astro file manager. and can't get to system directory? What now?
GSM stock rom 4.1.1, still have CWM and it runs but it won't perform any tasks!

i just flashed cwm to my gnex with rom manager after rooting the phone (without unlocking the bootloader). when i try to boot into the recovery, i get this picture of an android with its chest open and an exclamation. i would assume that the recovery partition was not flashed correctly? are there any suggestions?
thanks for your help in advance!
That just means the recovery was not properly flashed, what you are seeing is stock recovery. Try again via rom manager, or do it manually using fastboot.

Not true. If you have root, you are good to go.
@OP: the reason CWM is not sticking is because you updated your build with an OTA (or link). When you do this, the update adds 2 files to your ROM that re-flash the stock recovery on every reboot. You need to delete them and re-flash CWM.

You still can boot into CWM Recovery without deleting or change the filenames..
Just before you want to boot into CWM recovery...from CWM App..clck flash recovery..after that click Reboot into recovery.. doing these 2 steps..you will get booting into CWM Recovery yet not losing the stock recovery..

Yup, you can do that as well. But you would need to flash CWM every time.
Not sure why you are so concerned with having a stock recovery though. The "I want to be able to get the next ota" reason doesn't make any sense at all for these reasons:
1) The link for the next OTA update will show up on XDA before you get it. So in this case, you need either CWM or root to install.
2) Irrespective of whether you have a stock or custom recovery, you will receive notification of the next OTA update regardless. If you have the stock recovery, just click install. If you have CWM, start ROM Manager, install the stock recovery, and then install the update.

Im trying to flash CWM via the app and it says it does not have access to those privileges. any help?
EDIT:
I went back into Terminal and flashed it via fastboot, seems to be good! I installed superuser via superboot,
EDIT:
I have CWM on the phone SU everything is good, but rom manager will not download any roms and is telling me to instal CWM... confusing...
you dont have root access. google on how to obtain root access or alternatively,
go to bootloader mode
fastboot flash recovery <nameofrecovery>.img
find .img on google (clockwork recovery)
grrr i feel like a tard... i had to tell CWM i flashed it manually in the settings.

Ive got my Rom on there, I have to keep flashing CWM tho idkw... but my rom is running anyhow. thanks for the help!
theres a file that keeps reflashing stock recovery.. search the forums on what it is, i forget. its something called install-recovery.sh or so i believe
edit: navigate to /system/etc/install-recovery.sh and rename to something else or delete it..... then reflash recovery, and it should stick

As with any stock update, the JB update disables root access and replaces whatever recovery you have with the stock recovery.
The only way to root is with an unlocked bootloader. So:
1) Unlock your bootloader;
2) Flash CWM using fastboot;
3) Flash a superuser zip to get root;
4) Boot into Android;
5) Use a file explorer with root access to delete these files: /system/etc/install-recovery.sh and /system/recovery-from-boot.p
6) Re-flash CWM;
7) Done.

That is stock recovery.
If you are rooted, goomanager should be able to flash a recovery. If you are on a stock ROM, the recovery-from-boot script will replace the custom recovery with the stock one on a reboot. If you want a permanent custom recovery, you will have to rename or delete /system/recovery-from-boot.p(this is the patch) or /system/etc/install-recovery.sh(this is the script that tries to install the recovery). I am unsure if goomanager makes it permanent, I have never used the app to flash a recovery before.
Flashed twrp with toolkit, and flashed a custom rom, everything seems ok now, so if someone has problem...
TL;DR
install WugFresh toolkit, be sure driver are installed (you can test driver with 1 click)
download and flash google factory image, again just 1 click,
install new recovery, this is the third click
Thx for help

Hey guys,
I had a rooted Galaxy Wonder with a custom Rom (TouchWiz, forgot which version). I had CWM 5 and wanted to Install CWM 6 so I can be able to get the Kitkat 4.4 Rom, but unfortunately I soft bricked it. I flashed a custom Rom using Odin 4.43 Multi Downloader and it successfully passed, but with a problem, it doesn't get to the Homescreen and it keeps of rebooting itself all over again. I can get to download mode and to stock recovery. So I thought I could maybe root it again and install CWM 6 to flash the rom.
Now the problem is that when I use the stock recovery (by Holding Vol Up+Home+Power) I don't get to install the root update.zip because it reboots itself after I press the menu button (it writes something about updating then reboots).
What can I do? Is there anyway to Root the device via Odin and install CWM 6 so I can flash a custom rom?
Help!
Thanks in advance!

You don't need to root it again since it's already rooted (when you first installed TouchWiz) and it's not the cause i think.

I think your phone is still rooted that's why your having that problem.
So, your problem is that, you believed your phone is not rooted anymore?

Well, I didn't know if it is rooted or not and I don't know how to flash Cwm 6 and I can't use the phone normally since it is not able to turn on to the Homescreen.
Don't mind the older custom Rom, it was flashed successfully and I used it for more than 3 months.

Stock, but can't do anything in it. I get the White box icon with the yellow arrow and android and press the menu button but then it says updating Application then some things that I can't read because the go quickly and something about can't access (some directory in system) and Update successful and rebooting.
It keeps doing that.

this might be the cause, so we need do clean wipe of all the data/ files in your internal storage. We need to make it boot first since it's not just a recovery problem but ROM.
Do you still have the touchwiz rom in your external sd-card? If it's still there, do this steps in cmw:
select "wipe data / factory reset"
go to "mounts & storage" and format /system. This is extremely important!
under the same menu, format /sdcard0 (be careful NOT to format /sdcard1 by mistake)
install touchwiz
reboot
