[Sprint] how do build numbers work - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I'm on l710vplen
This is different from the s1 and 2
It used to be XXxx
XX=month xx=day
Now I have no clue

Lf2 is the first ota, then it went to lg2 roughly only a few apart. The kernels will tell you the build dates.

[Q] Q About Modems

hi
im looking to find out how to tell which modem to use and if the baseband has to match the kernal version and really which modem to use.
model
sph-d710
baseband
s:d710.10 s.ek02
kernal version
2.6.35.7-sph-d710.el29-cl852097
build
starburst 1.5.12
hardware d710.10
from all the videos i watched the baseband and kernal ek or el numbers were the same. idk if they have to be or if i did somthing wrong. right now everything works but the 3g speeds are average 100kbps down and usally have 2 bars.
any ideas would be greatly appreicated
thanks
scapcom
also if you need to host a file i got a ftp just send a message for the info
You can flash any modem version you like. Kernel doesn't need to match. Mine does but that's beside the point. El 29 modem is fine IMO but some report problems with it. Try them all out to see which works best for you.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
No you can use any modem you want.....it just depends on what works best for you
.....personally I am all el29....but some people swear by the older modems.....just mix and match till you find what works best for you
Edit.....aww ya beat me to it lol
Sent from the near past
Thanks ill try them out

There is a app network signal info that will give you the true readings of DBs ... Install it and see which modem gives you better signal strength...

So from the specs I wrote the modem is the ek02 right

Yes your modem is ek02 and your kernel is el29. Try and flash the el29 modem since that is the.most recent official build.

[RADIOS] CWM/TWRP Flashable Radios SGH-T989/D [2013.04.24] TLMC4 New Added!

Listed below is the collection of radios compatible with the SGH-T989..
I am not responsible if you flash these radios/modems and break something.
all .ril files have been removed, some scripts cleaned up. I have tested all of these and can verify they are working on both ICS and JB.
// How to install //
Code:
1) Boot into Recovery Mode
2) Flash radio .zip
3) After flashing is completed, reboot.
// Troubleshooting //
Code:
Getting complaints of echo on the other end of the line from callers?
If you are running a CM based Jellybean ROM chances are you need
to navigate from PHONE > SETTINGS > (turn on) Enable noise suppression.
// Firmware Naming Conventions Explained //
Code:
Example: UVLH1; Breakdown;
First 2 letters are the network carrier codes; IE: UV (T-Mobile, USA)
Second 2 letters are the year and month the firmware was released;
[I]The first letter determines the year, the second is the month:[/I]
Letter Year Month
A 2001 January
B 2002 February
C 2003 March
D 2004 April
E 2005 May
F 2006 June
G 2007 July
H 2008 August
I 2009 September
J 2010 October
K 2011 November
L 2012 December
The last number. This is a number (sometimes a letter) at the very end of the
firmware, which refers to the release number of the firmware. If the release
number is higher than 9, it will be letters, so A = 10; B = 11; C = 12 etc...

Maybe for radios of the same phone you can signify what order they were released. People are going to ask which is better regardless, but this might lessen the amount

Just makes a radio work with any build, be it GB ICS JB.

Nope, it's completely a compatibility issue. Though I do second wanting to know what the advantage of having the proper RIL for a radio might be. Back in the day (on my older Android phones), there was always disclaimers saying you had to match RIL to radio. There was zero talk of not having them though.
OP thanks for list. Maybe you can list the release dates of the radios.
Can one of this radio can be use on At&T SNotes?

Model Number and Info
I have the same phone through alltel as well so his info would be the same as mine.
Model is SCH-R760
Running 2.3.6
Build is GINGERBREAD.XARFF24
I don't think you're going to be able to use any of our ROMs. You're hung to have to wait until something is built from source for your device.

Unfortunately this forum / ROM's are for Model #SPH-D710. Sorry!

port sprint jellybean offical update ?

tmobile offical update for jellybean wont be until the end of 2012, so cant we just port the official jelly bean update from sprint? cause basically the sprint gs3 and all other carriers are the same internally except for the radio. so as long as we just flash the rom without the radio, we should be good ? i have no idea. idk. just a thought
I'm sure someone will try it out soon, but I'm pretty sure you can flash Sprint and att roms no problem

I've read only att roms are safe to flash for t mobile s3
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I believe all the carriers have pretty much identical hw except the radios. They most likely have the same partition mapping and so its probably ok to flash anothers roms.
That said, I would NOT do this without solid confirmation. Its basically an educated guess on my part. (A day or two ago someone said they flashed a Verizon rom and it worked, but again, I wouldn't take my or their word for it alone)

Ktoonsez built his touchwiz kernel off the sprint jb source so I'm with doc on this. It's most likely safe. I'm hoping T-Mobile will release their source soon.

Someone in general clashed Sprint and Verizon ROMs just fine. The only issue was getting radios to communicate with the software. I believe they got everything working on the Sprint ROM but Verizon had extra authentication methods.

There are unconfirmed reports that we'll get Jelly bean by the end of november which is really only 4 weeks from now.
Or we can be impatient and want it now.

graffixnyc released a modded version already. I'm working on a straight stock port of it but haven't had much time with it so far. (It boots and runs but I need to do more to it) I should get some time I can spend on it later today, I hope!

The OP could be telling the truth, but till a credible member verify this, I'll question the validity of his/her post. Still, even if it turns out to be true, It remains to be a question whether a sprint rom is flashable on ours or not.

You can flash a sprint rom just fine. will stuff not work without modification? yes, but you will not brick it.
Now, if you flash an international rom to a US variant you will brick because the partitions are different. But everything is the same on the US variants. You do have to change things in the build.prop and make other mods to make it work on GSM. The only thing bad would be if the sprint rom flashes a modem but that wouldn't even brick because you could just flash the correct modem
I also want to mention I released a straight stock port on the ATT forums. This release will work for tmo as well. You just have to change the build prob stuff to show it as a t999 instead of a i747
All the S3 from US carrier have the same hardware. It could be ported just that the radios will have to be changed. I wont doubt it if they do it :good:
OK guys no more talking, that's the official JB for the sprint version, ported for the T-Mobile
Check out. Working great on my phone.

If it comes out for the 7105 yes, you would need to flash the Tmo modem but other then that it should work. Now if it is for the 7100 then no it wont work.
7105 = international LTE
7100 = international GSM only
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2
Im positive we will get aokp & cm10 once source is released. Our notes are too new yet, give it time. Im betting by early next year we will have something.
i was just getting ready to flash the lastest n7100 nightly and looked here again just to see.. glad i did.. would have been a pain to odin back to stock and start over.
Yea I tired flagging the nightly and it killed my baseband. I just restored from nandroid and it worked again.
It was so nice to have the speed and look of AOSP on this phone though. I really can't wait until we get AOSP ROMs or until we figure out a way to port N7100 ROMs.
