Notification Issue - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

After getting the latest update of JB 4.1.1 on my Galaxy Nexus, all notifications like facebook, twitter and Google+ are not working. I checked individual apps and setting for those looks fine to me. Even I checked Setting>Apps>notifications for these applications and notification is ticked. Don't know why I am not getting any notifications.
Did any other face this issue after the update?

I had the some problem today morning. I just removed and reinstall the Twitter app, Facebook app and FB Messenger app and notifications are back. I am not sure if this is a result of the update to Jelly Bean, as I had some issues on ICS too. Anyway, the above solution worked for me.

Did you get it using the clear Google framework trick? If you did then that's the reason why.

Facebook notifications

Hi folks,
Got the problem above, used to work fine but the notifications don't show anymore... Already logged out, uninstalled and installed updates, cleared cache and also tried the Blackberry workaround... Still no luck...
Any suggestions or ideas I can get the notifications work?
My girlfriend has got the same phone and hers is working fine..
Please advise

mine stopped too around juli 29th, my guess it's a server side issue, it happened before in the past.

This may help you with your issue

Check that Google Talk connects to the Google Servers - you don't need to use it - but all push notifications will stop if Google Talk cannot connect to the Google Servers.

I removed the permissions on facebook (the website) for sense and deleted all data for all 3 friendstream apps, after a while I got one message, unfortunately it was the last messege I had already recieved. I really believe it's a serverside issue. I have seen this before, also with other 3rd party FB widget....

To rule out a push notification (C2DM) issue - you need another app that uses Push Notifications - like Twitter or something.
Got Twitter and that doesn't give any notifications either...
Do you think factory reset will help? Don't want to go through that do formatting, installing apps etc for nothing..

OK - so try the following:
Open Google Talk - Sign Out. Sign back in.
Check Android Settings > Accounts & Sync to see if there is a problem with the Sync service.
Check Auto Sync is switched on - and try toggling it off and back on.
Reboot the phone.
For info - I am getting Tweets and Facebook notifications fine here - so there is nothing wrong with either service.
Check the links above, you might receive some types of notifications but all, it's a confirmed server side error
Ah well guess I'm gonna need to wait till the next update is out...

I don't know, really....if you check their bug tacker it could be all sorts of issue where messages made from certain apps don't trigger notifications, there are many different types of notifications, some migh work, some might not. I got using facebook via mobile apps (htc, samsung other 3rd party apps)since 2010 and it just happened a few times before and then after a while it will start working again.
If you want it working use the official facebook app, it usually keeps working until the problems are fixed. If you have cleared the data for friendstream and facebook, removed the right of the friendstream app and started over there is nothing more you can do
I am using the official facebook app (came with the phone) and never used friend stream or tweetdeck..
I have done a factory reset and also disabled friendstream but still no notification... Rage !!

This is crazy because my phone I receive notifications from Facebook app and the twitter app it didn't when I got the phone but I disabled all notifications in app and then enabled them

Group MMS and Other Hidden Gems in Android 4.2 (on a Galaxy Nexus)

Well, There's a working Group MMS option in the stock messenger. Oh my GOD is this great! :good:
Anyone else find anything worth reporting?
Miracast is obviously not included on the GNex ROM as I doubt it has the hardware to support it.
I'm not sure if it was there before but I noticed that you can disable system apps now. Just go to Settings -> Apps -> All and select an app from there. If its a system app, the "Uninstall" option becomes "Disable". In my case I'm not using Currents and Google Talk so I had them disabled. Now they are hidden and don't show up in the App Drawer.
*EDIT: NVM. Apparently "its been there since forever" as the guy below replied to me.
*EDIT2: Ok. I've read that the feature to "disable" system apps was slightly improved in 4.2. Before, you need to uninstall updates first before you can disable a system app. Now you can disable system apps directly without the need of uninstalling the updates first. That was the reason I thought disabling system apps is new in 4.2. When I was in 4.1.x I just see the "Uninstall Updates" button.

You also have the following options for when to daydream; while docked, while charging and either.

I was just going to post about this. Lol.
I think there are minor aesthetic changes, as well. When you are in messaging, compose a message and are choosing a recipient from your contacts there is now shading underneath the box with the recipient. I don't think this was in 4.1.2 or lower. The font also seems a little bolder in the messaging threads, most notably for me with the font being set to small.
Does the group messaging work with other platforms (iPhone, Blackberry, WP7/8)? In other words, did they finally decide to bake in threaded MMSes into 4.2?

When someone sends you a fb message, you'll get the chathead notification on your home screen. If you want chatheads to work with your texts too, go into the settings for fb messenger, and press sms/mms, and select the option to use messenger for sms. Now you'll get chathead notifications for texts too.
I hate to admit it, but this is actually really cool. Only thing missing is MMS support, which i don't use that often. I really like how in the pop-up you can scroll back and read the previous messages. Best pop-up notification for SMS on the market IMHO.

It should have MMS support, its listed in the settings, though I haven't tested it. But yea, its definitely slick. I'm glad they chose not to force you to have home in order to use it. Very smart decision on their part

I'm running the vanilla version of MMuzzy's 4.2.2 ROM. It is pure AOSP. I am wondering if it is an issue with the android version and not the ROM. Since all the phones that FB home is compatible with are 4.1, maybe chat heads in messenger just won't work on anything 4.2 based. Is there confirmation of it working on any 4.2 device? I'll try my N10 later tonight.

No update from fb app on notification bar.

When I am on stock touchwiz rom, I get every single update from facebook on notification bar. When I installed a custom rom (Infamous), no update from fb on notification bar. If I launch the app, it shows me update in it but no sign on notification bar. I cleared cache, reinstalled fb app, check auto sync etc etc to make sure it works. But nothing changes. As soon as I flash back the nandroid backup of stock tw rom, fb update works like charm. What's wrong with the custom or deodexed rom then?

I'm not rooted or anything but when I first got my phone yesterday I kept getting a notification to log into Facebook to sync it to my phone. When I clicked the notification it opened up the browser to Facebook and wanted me to let some sort of Samsung app connect to my Facebook. I assume that is what was syncing your notifications. I didn't connect mine to sync so I don't get notifications so I can't verify.

Yeah, unfortunately, I concur. I also was planning for this to be a more unified client than it is. Instead of merging the hangouts and SMS threads it keeps them separate. I was expecting it to be like the iMessage client for iOS: Data message unless the recipient doesn't have the app or you have no data connection, SMS for the rest

Come on folks, obviously the new Google apps are making use of the API's in 4.4 that aren't going to work properly on 4.3. This is the reason even something like Maps has different current versions floating around depending what you're running. There's going to be bugs just side loading this from a system image especially for a new app like hangouts that's now being deeply integrated into the system in 4.4.

I'm sure we're all quite aware of that. Thank you for pointing out blatantly obvious things.
No one here is saying "WTF Google why you no make teh hangoutz werk for mah Note before official release?! "
We're merely conversing, seeing if these problems are shared by all, or just some. So pump the brakes and cool your jets.
The simple fact it works
Flawlessly on my wife's Galaxy S3 and not my Note 3 makes me curious and eager to see if there are tweaks on our end that can nudge the software into a happy place.
That being said, constructive and helpful people who manage to find workarounds or anything helpful to get their MMS working without crashing the app, hop in and share!
