AOKP - wifi + exchange prevents sleep? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hello All,
Noticed the following, and was hoping somebody could shed some light on what I'm seeing.
I noticied ~10%/hour battery drain after flashing AOKP M6. Better Battery Stats showed the Exchange Mail Service as being the primary culprit (60.4% on wakelock), and GSam Battery confirmed the exchange service was keeping the phone awake. I have the mail service set to check every 15 minutes. (Tangent - what happened to Sync Scheduling, where you could specify sync frequency based on day and time?)
I used the power saver options in the rom to disable WIFI and 3G radios when the screen turned off, and battery drain plummeted to ~2-3% per hour. Battery stats confirmed the phone was now sleeping normally. However, now mail syncing is using up celular data.
I then modified the power saving settings to keep the wifi on when the screen is off (but still turn off the 3g radio), and to prefer the wifi network for sync data. Power drain increased to ~7% an hour, and battery stats confirmed the phone is no longer sleeping.
To recap:
Nothing tweaked = no sleep, exchange service the culprit
Wifi and 3G radio disabled = sleeps normally
Wifi enabled, 3G disabled = no sleep, exchange service the culprit
Are there any logs or screenshots or anything you guys would like me to provide to back up my observations? Tests occurred over one-hour periods throughout today. No other activity during these tests (phone was kept in my pocket).

How`s my battery life ?

I just got the Desire last week, and trying to get the most out of the battery as I can
I have the ROM from HERE:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741775
I have the nexus 1 animated wallpaper ON
Screen brightness on AUTO - but timeout=30secs
animations ON
Back-ground data + auto-sync ON
`Always-on Mobile Data`-under Networks is ON
network is WCDMA ONLY - to try stop it from hopping from G 3G H E etc etc
etc.
Data roaming is OFF
Bluetooth OFF
WIFI OFF
didnt use blutooth or WIFI at all in approx 18hours of battery discharge.. for the first 10hrs approxit was idle (overnight) the was light web browsing etc, NOT wifi, just 3G browsing/sms etc
Is this any good?
when the battery is LOW i get a screen showing the battery stats but cannot find that screen when Phone is fully charged ??
cheers
You're alright, I kill mine for either 12h or less, like 6
3g browsing, few calls and some play with the ui
Auto-sync is a real battery killer. Do your updates manually or switch off network connection when you dont need it (with apndroid or similar). Idle battery usage should be about ~1% / hour.
The display(amoled) when in use uses a LOT of power. Keep it as low as possible.
Try to check from time to time if any apps you've installed has any wakelock -bugs. When the phone doesnt sleep with the screen off, the battery usage is way off, like 30-40% idle overnight vs. ~8%.

Why would having WiFi turned on kill my battery?

I have a Verizon G4 that is not getting the great battery life many speak of. I've tried a lot of things...only syncing the bare minimum of stuff (gmail, calendar, contacts), running Lux for auto brightness, used Access lock to turn off most all permissions in most all my apps, disabled/turned off most LG and Verizon bloat, and still I end up getting only 6 to 8 hours before the 15% battery warning, with 30 to 40 minutes screen time (I've been scared to use it more). GSam shows nothing eating up my battery except for Android System, which is typically using 35% to 60%, with all other apps showing minimal usage. My cell signal is strong everywhere I am, as is my WiFi signal.
So, today, on a whim, I decided to turn off WiFi when I got up and unplugged. Now after 8 hours on with 1 hour screen time, I've got 70% battery left and Android System has only used 17%. I consider this GREAT! Ultimately though, I need to get WiFi back on due to data restrictions.
Why would using WiFi be killing my battery? I did notice the day before that, even though I have "Allow WiFi scanning" un-checked, my WiFi screen was showing "searching" every 10 seconds...forever. That seems very battery hog-atious, but I've been told that it's normal (even though it doesn't seem normal to me).
Does anyone know why WiFi is killing my battery or if there is any troubleshooting/testing I can do?
Wifi can be a hog as it is constantly searching for available and open wifi signals. Depending on settings, even while the screen is off it is pinging around looking for open signals. That can kill a battery. In the past, we have had mods to reduce the time between checks from say every 10 second to every minute.
As a rule of thumb I NEVER run wifi unless I am using it. Same with Location or BT for that matter. Hogs always looking for signals.
Disable Wifi Scanning in advanced wifi settings.... I would also turn off google now and limit syncing of google stuff.. I actually have auto-sync off...
A LOT of it can also have to do with the particular Wi-Fi source. At my work, signal is strong, but there's something about it that drains my battery about fifteen percent per hour, even when not in use. And this is across my current g4 as well as my galaxy s4 and s5. Once I get home and connect to my home Wi-Fi, I regularly lose as little as between 0 to 1% over 6 to 7 hours overnight while I sleep. I've started using my laptop (which also uses the work Wi-Fi, but remains plugged in) as an ad hoc Wi-Fi source to which I connect my phone, and that drops my battery drain to about 3% an hour.
Edit* I also leave absolutely everything syncing all the time. Regardless, I lose extraordinarily little (~1% overnight) on home Wi-Fi.

[Q] My Sprint S6 get's terrible battery life

Now.. I'm on my phone a lot normally. I text, and use FB messenger, and a lot of Google Now. Because my phone battery dies so quickly, it sits plugged in a lot, and I don't use it nearly as much as I'd like to.
If I am using my phone a lot, I can take my phone from 100% to 15% 3 times in a day.
I factory reset recently, and just let my phone sit with nothing but Google Messenger and Facebook. It still dies from a full battery in ~4-5 hours, without me touching it. Thing is, all the battery stats show less than 5% usage. And there's no crazy crap like games, etc running. I can't figure out what's eating the battery.
I just put the phone in Airplane mode, and enabled Wifi. I'm getting all my emails, fb messages, gmail, google voice, so on. Battery only went down 30% in 28 hours. I turned off airplane mode (it's not connected to Sprint at the moment, I took it off the account), and I have an Airave...battery dropped 15% in about 30 minutes. Went back to airplane mode with Wifi on, and back to a really slow drain.
Right now, I'm planning on packing up my phone tomorrow and sending it to Samsung for a battery replacement. Because my standard 2A-5V can charge this phone from 10% to 100% in an hour...which isn't right. Not the original QC2.0 charger.
Update: I turned off airplane mode again, and the phone is steadily losing 10-12% battery an hour.. and there's nothing running. It's sitting face up on my coffee table.
What can I do to stop the battery bleed? It's completely stock, on the latest update from Sprint, with no root.
I got an RMA from Samsung to send it in for a battery replacement.
Attached are screenshots of my battery stats. It just makes no sense. Even after a factory reset, not everything using the battery is reporting to that page. The sharp drops in battery are from when the phone is not in Airplane mode (only wifi on)
I've got the same issue. No better than 7-8 hours of standby time. My cpu will also heat up to 160 degrees while running very basic apps.
Any guesses on what's wrong? What have you tried?
turn off:
mobile networks > Connection optimizer
wifi > always allow scanning
these worked for me. hope helps you too.

Yes this is a battery hog for sure shut off that Connection Optimizer, also I set my screen brightness to auto (little check box after the slider) and I noticed a big difference in battery life, I use to crank up the brightness and battery would drain fast, I been on 2 days now at 79% battery..... also not sure but I shut off notifications everywhere too, I don't need facebook telling me everytime a monkey posts on another monkeys wall every 2 minutes, that helps on battery drain as well.
ditto.
This has gotten much worse since I updated to 0I1 rooted with unikernal v9
Also for some reason now... even though both the connections optimizer and wifi scanning turned 'off'-- wifi still keeps randomly turning itself "on" frequently. That with the incredibly poor battery and overheating is frustrating.
Good for you
I had the smart connection optimizer, and wifi scanning off. I also have the wifi location scanning thing turned off.
None of that helps.
My phone is on it's way back to Samsung right now to have a new battery installed.
At this point, I'm pretty sure it's faulty hardware.

Wi-Fi won't shut off, and it's by far my largest battery user.

I've got a brand new unlocked Moto Z play with the Offgrid battery mod. This morning I was disappointed to see my wifi, despite being disabled, had nearly drained my battery mod. I have the wifi configured to only maintain a connection while asleep and plugged in. The toggle for background location via wifi is absent from the advanced wifi menu.
Why is my wifi constantly on, despite it being toggled off?
I've attached a screen shot of the battery screen.
Edit: found the wifi scanning toggle in locations. I've just switched that off.

That's strange. Android Marshmallow comes with Doze functionality, and if the user is not using or moving the phone, it cuts down all background app activity that may eventually drain your phone, thus preserving your battery. You'll still receive notification about emails, and messages in social apps, as they're considered priority, if I'm not mistaken.
I'd say the source of your mod losing battery is your cellular reception. By the print you've posted, the Cellular Network Signal bar is most of the time red, orange or yellow. Poor cellular coverage eats up your battery.
I thank you for saving me the trouble of creating this thread, also did turning off the wifi scanning help?
keep wifi during sleep?
Wi-Fi has been switched off most of the day, wifi location scanning is disabled, and wifi connections while asleep are set to never. Still, it's almost ALWAYS on. Even when my ATT connection is strong it's still sucking down my battery. Wi-Fi remains my largest drain. Larger than cell standby, play services, and the screen.
Edit, looking at my images again, it appears my Z Play is treating the battery mod as a charger. Once the main battery drops to 80% and it switches to the mod battery, the wifi never turns off (despite my settings).
I also have similar problem with my moto z play. I haven't used wifi but still showing top ahead of others. Pls help to resolve this issue.
I had a Moto X Play before for a good while. this problem also showed up there (on Marshmallow as well), but I did find out my battery did not actually get drained, it was a reporting error in Android.
I am not sure if that is the case here with you, is the total battery life definitely lower or is it hard to tell?
Battery is still good but it could be better without the wifi drain. Mine is also more than the total energy the screen consumes and I have battery saver on with wifi location scanning off and wifi on only while plugged in. Not sure what would cause this.
Well, this is interesting. Flew to Boston today around 8:30, and as you can see, toggling airplane mode for the relatively short duration of my flight seems to have fixed my wifi drain. Although the phone did reboot in my pocket around 1530. At the time of this screenshot my internal battery is at 80%, and the battery mod is at 55% with only ~2.5 hours screen on time.
Out of curiosity, when you go into settings>location>3 dot menu>scanning, is wifi scanning turned on or off? Not sure about exact menu location as I don't have a Moto Z play, so working off a custom ROM on my Moto E2. Not sure if it would make a difference, but....
Wi-Fi location scanning is disabled.
Interesting, 24 hours after my flight (both legs visible in the chart) I'm showing no more wifi drain. This is with ~3.75 hours SOT. I am disappointed to see the Offgrid mod lost ~30% over night though. I'll still easily get 2 full days out of one charge, but I was hoping for 3-4. Hopefully Nougat's improved doze helps.
I am thinking my phone is also suffering from the same issue. Take look at my other post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69486349&postcount=77
Mine is even worse. Even when i activate the airplane mode, wifi does not turn off. It is open literally 24 hours. Seems like it drains the battery but I still have 9-10 Hours of SOT, depending on usage this can go up to 13-14 hours.

Didn't work for me, but I stopped caring. I computed total power usage, wifi does not seem to have that portion
Guys, you must confirm if the WiFi actually drains that amount of power. 8/10 times it is a reporting error in Marshmallow, experienced it myself as well. Gsam battery monitor could tell you more.
This solution is for the MotoZ, a similar issue, maybe it could help us a little

IMS wake lock drain

Hi, I recently got my S9 but however lately I've been getting idle drain. With mobile data off, I lose about 2% every 2 hours and with mobile data on, I lose 4% every 2 hours. I have GSam installed and used ADB to give it permission for battery stats. Below are screenshots
http://imgur.com/gallery/5c4Q4j4
It seems to be from IMS service. I read that it can be from either WiFi calling or volte. I do not want to turn off either. Had anyone else experienced this? I still have good battery but this idle drain isn't normal. I haven't left my phone overnight so I guess I might try that tonight and see how much it drains
Hi there,
I am re-opening this old thread since I am facing the exact same behaviour with my new S10+. Due to IMS wakelocks, my battery drains 30-40% overnight (while I'm sleeping for 7 hours). If I put my phone in flight mode, it loses 1% overnight. Did you manage to find a solution afterall? I really hate having to put my phone in flight mode every night. Thanks in advance :highfive:

Did you ever find a solution to this? Experiencing same problem now ...
Hi ... did any of the posters above find a solution to this issue ?
I am stuck at exactly the same problem: The phone (S9, stock-rom) drains approx 20% over night, doing nothing. Reason (according to GSam Battery Monitor) is the high power consumption of Apps > Android-System > 48 mins (264 count) wakelocks caused by ImsService.
If you look at the picture of batter usage in Gsam you clearly see, the phone stays active all night and barely sleeps/dozes :-(
What I already tried, without any effects:
- clearing cache of all "IMS*" Services in App Manager
- wiping cache partition
- disabling AOD (Always On Display) and VoLTE Telephony
- removing and re-adding google account
I am a little clueless and would like to avoid a factory reset as especially all those nasty "push-tan applications" will most likely need a re-authorization :-(
I'd heavily appreciate any hint.
After a long journey it seems that I found a solution: At least on Android 10 there seems to be a bug in google location services. If you disabled location history, the API requests are still made but get stuck each time (every 60 sec.) and keep the phone awake instead of returning to sleep.
The "bitter" solution was to turn on Google Location history again ... and suddenly the drain ends, as the detection and transmission of the location is ways faster, than letting the die in a timeout ...
