I'm a little surprised nobody has mentioned the factory cable in the accessories section. For anybody doing anything more than using the Kindle Fire in the stock configuration, I think the factory cable is a must-have accessory. It makes so many tasks so much simpler to perform. Getting out of bootloops, flashing a ROM for the first time, or unbricking... they all get reduced to at most 2 or 3 steps... all without any need to troubleshoot. If everybody had a factory cable (and knew how to use it) before they started tinkering with their device, the general section wouldn't be packed full of help requests.
For those who are unfamiliar with the factory cable, it's a special USB cable that will put the Kindle Fire directly into fastboot mode when it starts up. This is important because the hardest part of fixing most problems on the Kindle Fire is first getting the device into fastboot mode. Even in the worst bricking incidents... if you have any working bootloader, use the factory cable to get into fastboot, flash a new bootloader/recovery/ROM, reboot and the thing is fixed. The less familiar you are with how all of this stuff works, the more useful the factory cable will be in your toolbox.
You can make your own from a generic USB cable if you have a soldering iron and some time. I personally could have gone the DIY route, but I decided to purchase one from a fellow XDA member. He makes them himself and really takes pride in the quality of his products.

He said he ran out of parts to produce more and was waiting on supplies. He also said in a different thread that he was in the middle of a move, so I guess he's trying to get everything in order before starting up again. No reason you couldn't send him a PM anyway and get in line.. I'm sure it will be anytime now.
heh yea.. i Pmed him i think....I send the pms but I don't think they are going through. kinda weird because when i check my inbox. it doesn't even show sent messages. so i dunno.

By default, outgoing PMs are not saved to the sent box. You either have to check the box down at the bottom for every message you send, or there's a setting you can change somewhere in your profile.
Why wait? They sell the same cable for 6 dollars cheaper on ebay.

I'm not trying to be a cheerleader for SkOrPn's products, but for one thing, the eBay listing quotes 20-25 days before delivery. Even with SkOrPn's production delays, I'm guessing you'd get his before you get that delivery from Hong Kong.
However, the more important point here is that numerous XDA members have vouched for his product quality and customer service. If for some reason that cable from China doesn't work out, you'd be sitting on your hands waiting for it to get shipped back (likely at your expense) before they'd send you a replacement, or fronting another $9 in the hopes that the next one works. I had a similar experience with another gadget I ordered from China and not having it work. Other users in the KF forums have noted that SkOrPn has gone out of his way to make sure you are happy with your purchase.
Of course, how you spend your money is entirely up to you, but if I was in the market for one and I was given the choice, I think I would choose to spend the extra $6 for the peace of mind and insurance against potential frustration... to each his own.

Received my cable yesterday (ordered it when I made that post on the 11th of April). Works perfectly well.
Thank you for starting this post. I've been seeing "factory cable" everywhere on this forum and didn't have a clue what they were talking about. I just figured it meant I had to buy a cable - not that what the cable itself does is special!
Glad I used the search feature, finally, to find this out.

Yup, I just ordered one, 9.99$, 1.50$ shipping to Canada. It may take a while but it's cheap. Cheap enough to take the risk. The alternative is 47$ for the 3ft cable. The ebay one is only 2.5 ft, but that's better then the 1.5ft one.
Can someone look at this and tell me if the cable included with this deal is a "factory cable"?

Thank you. I wasn't sure because it said "sync/charge" cable, not just cable. Glad I asked so I won't waste my $$$.

I highly recommend buying the cable from SkOrPn. I bricked my KF and was too impatient to wait for the cable from China off of ebay, so when I ran across these forums I immediately ordered one from him. Ordered on Monday and had it by Thursday. It doesnt look homemade and worked great. Thanks SkOrpN!
I also bricked my Kindle during rooting. Using TWRP I accidentally wiped the system after I installed stock firmware so there was only stock bootloader. I had a cable that I purchased form DealExtreme it turned out that the plug can be easily opened so one can solder the 4-th pin to +5V.
If someone is willing to wait few weeks for the delivery this is the link for a cheap cable that can be easly modded to be a factory cable.
I can't post a link but do to deal extreme and search for sku 48924

Your very much welcome.... The ONLY real difference between mine and the ones from China is I actually test mine (three times during build) and the chinese slave labor do not bother testing because they know there is only a 10% chance of shipping a bad one. Why spend money on testing equipment and more slaves?
USB booting is easier than going and buying a factory cable IMO. I did it yesterday and it was much better than buying a cable and waiting for it to come in the mail.

Well, you're certainly entitled to that opinion, but from what I've seen on this forum, it's not one that's likely to be shared by most users. For most people, having to open up the case, risk damage to the device, and violate the terms of warranty is going to be beyond their comfort level. Besides, my suggestion is to have one around in case something goes bad, not order one after the fact. Just as people use a case to protect it before accidents occur, having a factory cable shouldn't be all that different. If you had one around, you would never consider USB boot to get into fastboot mode except as a last resort.
Hi! As the title indicates, I'm looking for a dock for my Kindle Fire. One problem: I'm outside the US, and none of the suitable docks on Amazon can be shipped to my European address. No, not even the one where it doesn't say so - I tried it, got an error later on in the checkout process.
All I really want is a dock to put the tablet in so it can charge without yet another wire that I need to dig out of the pile every time I use it. No need for syncing or speakers, just charging. Does anyone happen to know where I might find one that ships to the Netherlands? I'm aware that there are services to relay packages from the USA to elsewhere, but I'd rather keep the overhead low if I can.
Have you only tried amazon.com?
What about trying different vendors like newegg, or even just doing a google shopping search for Kindle fire dock?
Heh, I may have been slightly idiotic in assuming that only Amazon would be selling Kindle accessories. Newegg doesn't ship internationally either, but I'll definitely have a proper look around later. Thanks for the wake-up slap.
has anybody with proper cables tried hooking up the gnote2/smartdock to a motorola lapdock? that would be friggin' awesome if the lapdock completely works with a hdmi cable and the keyboard/trackpad if functional with a usb from the smartdock. i really have no interest in the smartdock as i have mhl already so the smartdock would be redundant for me in the few situations i use mhl but if it works with the lapdock then a whole bunch of possibilities arise and my laptop would probably never ever leave the house.
so anybody know, tried, working on it, interested etc.? i was planning on selling my atrix/lapdock soon but seeing i need to order a couple things from samsung this week i am thinking of trying it. the thing is though, the smartdock has been unavailable on their website and $100 is too expensive for me to just experiment for hahas. if it becomes available and i can snatch it for $50 with a half off coupon then i will order the other cables necessary to try.
I would be interested in this as well. There is another new thread asking about it (though yours in newer).

Thanks. Didn't see that. Problem is finding a smart dock now. Amazon has no stock. There are 2 on eBay at let me empty your bank account prices. Samsung has no indication if and when these will be back in stock. So now the question remains... anybody want to sell their smart dock for a reasonable price so I can test this?

Supposedly the dock will be back in stock mid February. It is likely amazon will have it a few days before Samsung's website has it though. Don't ask me why.

Hello everyone,
I am new to the xda forums (Well, new as in I've just registered), but I've followed your tutorials on how to root and install Android on KF2.
Unfortunately for me, and for a whole bunch of other people, this hasn't worked.
I'm stuck at a red screen. Yeah.. Sucks. What's worse? It's my brother's kindle. He wanted me to install android for him. I keep telling him everything is alright, at the moment he's stuck using my Iconia tablet and my PS3. I want to return it to him good as new ASAP.
I want to buy a fastboot / factory cable for my kindle in order to reset it. However, the only places I can seem to find it is eBay / some guys here on the forums.
My family have an account on Amazon.co.uk, and I have some money left over from christmas. I was wondering, that if someone is currently selling Fastboot / factory cables, could you please put it up on Amazon? For example, on this link:
If someone could put it on Amazon uk for the one time, I will be very grateful.
I am only 15, and I need this cable asap. We have a family credit card and so hopefully I can buy it when it is available. I am sure that there is probably a lot of people in the same position as me, and having it available to buy on amazon would help so much.
(I am from UK, so please make it affordable for me (as well as shipping) otherwise I won't be able to buy it..)
Thanks for reading guys, enjoy the rest of your day
I tried contacting Amazon support. They said I could get a free kindle exchange, but I am two weeks out of my warranty. BOO HOO! D:
Try skorpn. Dude is legit and ships international.
