[Q] No wifi/GPS after recent flash - MAC address unavailable.

Hi,
I recently moved from a rooted stock (with minor tweaks) sense 2.2. rom to CM7. Everything works great except the wifi! It only turns on (or appears to) for a few seconds before turning off (doesn't even scan) and shows "mac address unavailable". GPS also doesn't appear to be working.
I've tried reflashing everything (radio, recovery, rom) and no luck. I've read some people have resolved it by a simple reboot (or installing wefi) but that doesnt work!
Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi,
After experimenting with many ROMs, radios and kernals, I am still without wifi!
I read a post around removing the wpa_supplicant.conf file from /data/misc/wifi but that didn't work either.
Wifi only works when I revert back to a rooted stock rom.
Any ideas?

[Solved] Camera problem

Anyone have any issues with the camera app? Ever since I installed the cracked Skype apk my camera just shows a black screen. It happens on both the back and front cameras and in video mode. The hardware works though as I can review a pic taken and the video is fine its just not displaying in the camera app.
I uninstalled Skype wiped cache and dalvik but no change. When Skype was installed video calls worked just fine.
Any ideas?

Stock RMK Rom and stock camera app. I did recompile the stock HTC kernel to add TUN support, but that's it. I'll get a logcat later today.

Not sure what caused this, but here is the logcat...at least I know the hardware is good.
Any ideas? Perhaps a different kernel? Not sure why this wouldn't work as its the stock HTC code.

Looks like it was a kernel problem. I restored the original kernel and now the camera works just fine.

I am having problems with my camera as well. All I get is a black screen. How did you restore the kernel? I may want to give that a shot.

Before I flashed my new kernel I made a backup of the stock kernel - this should ALWAYS be done when doing kernel development for an occasion just like this!
I backed up my kernel in recovery by doing

cat /dev/block/mmcblk0p22 > /sdcard/stock_kernel.img
In fact you need to do this in order to extract/repack the ramdisk image if you ever wanted to modify the init.rc, etc.
Restoring the stock image can be done in the bootloader with fastboot on your host machine:

fastboot flash boot /path/to/stock_kernel.img
In addition to backing up the stock kernel image from the boot partition I always backup the stock kernel modules in /system/lib/modules in case something goes wrong - usually its getting the wifi module to load.

The camera hardware still works, it seems there is just a problem with the overlay buffer getting displayed on the screen. In reality the image is still captured and stored correctly.

Thanks for the reply. I can't even see the camera button or anything. The only thing that comes up is the white camera logo when I first open the camera app. It's probably a hardware issue for me.

As you can see its failing to load the driver and this is just under the ICS ROMs does anyone know how i can fix this thanks

what ROM did you try

Sandvolds ICS and bcm cm9
not tried tiny yet but there all same as there based on sandvolds work im guessing it could be kernel related but on rom page it says working wifi
*it did work for a while but upon reboot fails to load again

I have used both of them and had no problem,hope its not hardvare related,try to reflash or apply wifi fix from dk_zero_cool its in OP

incredibly fast rom, though the boot animation isn't my favourite, need something quieter. Will change to the cm9 boot animation soon.
Only problem I found so far is that the button to turn on usb mass storage is chopped off the screen in portrait mode.

Just noticed also, if you get enough notifications, then they overlap onto the clock

There is an hang on boot, my phone still shows the second animation. That for a couple of minutes.

well i had tested this may happen only on 2 causes
1. on flash need to wipe/data
2. dont apply patches continuously
i had tested working perfect
have a retry

The hang came after i rebooted the phone. So the phone was started up and loaded.
I go retry it.

It is fixed now.

[Q] Andromadus-VISION-22: No Wifi and no ipconfig.txt file

I have an old HTC Vision I want to use while my daily driver gets repaired. It is in good condition. It sits in a safe most of its life, and I have taken it out twice to use as a temp phone for family visits.
I used this phone well before I was knowledgeable about Android and do not have proper backups from that time (we are talking 3+ years ago). I had flash an updated ROM (2.3 -> 4.x) foolishly before my family arrived without doing a backup; the first time I did not expect to take the phone out of mothballed state. Everything worked except wifi. It always says searching for network, and no active or inactive networks are ever listed; it just hangs there. They were not using it for anything but phone calls, so no biggie.
Now, I need it. Not sure what happened I have tried flashing different variants of CyanogenMOD or AOSP from 4.x. I had the same problem persist with full wipe and resets and everything. So, I knew I must have screwed something up. Lo and behold.

So that did not go so well. I also tried Wifix 1.2 as recommended in this other thread and from a Mimcry dev, but it seems to do nothing either. First off, the permissions are bad.

So I try WiFix again, and post install it does not get better. Now I see more errors, but for a wlan0 file that exists but is not accessible (bad permissions maybe).

I have tried my Google-fu and cannot determine what to do at this point. Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this issue? Rather:
Do I need a properly formatted ipconfig.txt? Can anyone send me one?
What are the proper permissions for the /data/misc/wifi/wlan0 file that cannot be accessed?
Any other troubleshooting tips or workarounds to fix this nonsense?
Please help, this has been driving me nuts for two days and I am not that amateur!

It turns out maybe this regional regulatory domain stuff that Wifix has does work. So, two things in my case.
Was not using the most updated version of Wifix Manager. Download and install 1.32.
In the advanced settings, from many different recommendations on threads, set country code to EU to open all wifi network channels.
And now, the phone finally has wireless. I guess those error messages in the logcat led me to far astray. Everything works now.
