[T-mobile]Chainfire's Mobile Odin app testers needed - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899
Chainfire just posted that he is looking for T-mobile testers for his mobile odin app. For those who don't know what this app does, you can conveniently flash stuff on your phone through the mobile odin app. The best part of this app imo is by Chainfire's own words, "Flashing with Mobile ODIN does NOT increase your custom kernel flash counter or make the yellow warning triangle appear". So anyone who wants to know more info about the app and/or want to test please head over to the thread and contact Chainfire. Thanks.

Interesting

Free bump. I think anyone rooting or interested in development should hop on this beta test. Good for the forum.

Mobile Odin v3 is out! Support added for most north American models, including Canadian three.

Its cool that he has mobile odin out, but I, along Im guess most everyone else, wish he would work on flash counter reset. I understand his frustration, but Im more than willing to pay for his work.

Mr.X in the TMobile GSII forum has made a reset zip you flash in cwm.I'm not sure if it will work for GSIII,but it's a start I guess.I have used it many times, works great.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

Note for those that will use this. On Canadian firmware, not sure about others, seems that you can not flash firmware while keeping epic team cwm. Unlike on i9300 where it goes smoothly, It will fail to flash csc for us. The reason, even though signature check disabled, for some reason epic recovery still checks it. You have to flash stock recovery for the whole thing to go smoothly. Then because you're still rooted due to everroot, you can reflash cwm second time around with mobile Odin without tripping counter.

Count me in!

I have used it but only to flash recoveries. It works very well. Try the Lite version.

What exactly are you flashing in Odin (Mobile or otherwise)? Most Roms only provide zip files that are flashable in custom recoveries. Odin is mainly used for switching recoveries. If you want to switch recoveries that often, Naddict always takes the latest and makes a flashable zip directly from the recovery itself. If you want older, he might make one for you.
I've flashed everything with it. Modems can be fickle but I find putting it on root of SD card works well.
Mobile Odin is great if you wish to keep stock recovery and flash stock tars while remaining rooted. Not everyone wishes to have a custom recovery or ROM but would like to use root apps. Believe Mobile Odin author is one such person.
I've used it since it came out. Never any issues.
That's kinda what I want to do is try some different modems and update my prls. I'm running the latest synergy r484 and the 3g/4g can't make up its mind and my service bars aren't consistent since the update. I've used the previous rooms by synergy and never had this issue. I don't know what they changed being somewhat of a noob to rooted customs. Thanks for the insight I'll keep researching.

-noob question- Is it possible to root/flash roms with out a computer?

Sorry if this is covered somewhere else, I searched but did not find anything. I might be just searching the wrong topic or lack an understanding of these processes in general (lol, which I am sure I do anyway). So I have rooted and flashed custom rom's on other phones but always with the help of these amazingly easy to use how to threads and programs via a computer. Well I find myself in a situation with a kindle nook, Ipad, gs2 and my gs3 but no avaialable computer handy. I was wondering if any downloads have this ability to root/flash with out the aid of the comouter. Any help here is appreciated even if it is to just tell me this is a silly question, but hey if I didn't ask I wouldn't know and you all have been so much help in the past! Thank you

You will need a computer to root the galaxy S3, but will not need a computer to flash ROMs.

Me either, but I searched and found 5 threads about this subject and all said the same thing, Mobile Odin needs root to function.
Mobile odin does need root. Fantastic app though! Never heard of any problems at all with root66 and mobile odin. Never had any either and Ive used em both together and separately many times!

Ya I'll rephrase it since it is untrue, wasn't sure what I read in the past.
Was just thinking bout it and the only issue I could think if is if you try to use everroot and root66. But I'm pretty sure chainfire thought of that and coded MO accordingly. Never tried doing that though.

[root] samsung galaxy s3/s4 (qualcomm)

I have heavily modified the MotoChopper exploit by XDA member drjbliss to handle the new changes to file permissions in JellyBean 4.3+. Because this tool is based on MotoChopper it will likely support the same device list that MotoChopper supports however i have only tested it on the T-mobile T999 & T999L and the i337 .
If you would like to test it on other devices it should be fairly safe to try as it should either work or fail, of course testing anything like this is always at your own risk and i am not liable for any damage to your device, self esteem and so on. If you do test it on your device, please report your results here so that I can try to fine tune it if need be.
For this current version you will have to have TWRP installed on your device.
if it works for you don't forget to hit the thanks button! enjoy.
all instructions on how to use are inside the tool. this is for windows users only.

So sorry I need to edit the main post, I have been working on so many different projects, we did not test it on the M919 it was actually tested on the i337. If you are talking about the flash counter though this will not trip the flash counter, however flashing twrp will trip the binary status, and possibly the Knox counter, I need someone to test it, but I can't tell you how to correct it if it does trip it.
i guess what i should say is that while i have not had a confirmed success of fail on the m919 i have provided the tool to a few who have not been kind enough to report its status

So now Sammy has a flash counter a Knox counter and a binary status? Next thing you know their entire kernel is going to be some kind of counter.

The funny thing is when they switch to that tizen bs they are probably going to require the phones to root in order to switch like Ubuntu for the phones.

I will put it this way, since I did not take into account Knox being an issue , I will say that yes it will probably trip the Knox counter, but we won't know for sure until someone is willing to try it.

No it will not erase the data on your phone.
The step by step instructions are inside the tool, if you need instructions on how to flash TWRP to your device via Odin you can find them in the forums. I would include them but it is really outside of the scope of the tool, while the tool requires TWRP to work TWRP is not related in any way to the tool, the tool is simply TWRP dependent.
It has worked on the i337 already, whether or not it works on mk2 has yet to be determined, however the tool is designed in such a way it will either work or fail, if it fails it will not harm your device.

How to revert from 4.3 BACK To 4.1.....no brick!

If someone could show me how to post a link that allows you to flash TWRP onto 4.3 then you can kick Samsung's generic version of Ft. Knox to the curb. I have the one click Odin file on my phone..... Just don't know how to get it out to everyone else.

Wow I can't believe no answers yet.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Really? You need a link to TWRP recovery? Or "a link that allows you to flash twrp"? I'm confused. :what: You can flash twrp on 4.3 through odin. But if you flash TWRP that trips Knox, and even if you somehow flash back to 4.1.2, you still have a voided warranty. So why not just flash a touchwiz 4.1.2 rom (not through odin). Unless you found a way to go back and get rid of the bootloader? I'm sorry I'm just confused. But if you need to post a link upload it to a host. Then share the link.
If you need a recovery might I suggest this one:

Good catch. He just created this thread by itself after asking the same question in another thread. The other thread that he posted in was a response to someone hard bricking there phone trying to down grade the bootloader. I assumed he got an old bootloader you work. The way he worded it in this thread does leave it open either way.

Yeah sure bro. Here's the link to the NE2 (4.4) Full restore which will give you a good fresh start.
Just unzip and load through Odin with the PDA tab and you should be good to go.

And my daily on 4.4 right now is Jlmancuso's community rom which doesn't give me any problems except emojis dont work and custom ringtones but I dont care too much about that.

Dead on. Flashing thru ODIN is easy. But, if you have questions, post and someone should answer. Just remember, don't try to go "backwards" without seriously considering what you're doing....

May be the same one but not sure. It has worked for me many times, Although im rooting a stock rom for Sprint, I always go back to an Updated stock rom before I ever flash any custom rom.(samsmobile or samsung-update for sprint L900 stock roms).
Hope this helps.
I had the same issue (su fc, no root) so I went into philz recovery and reapplied root there and it worked.
