Hello guys, I just wanted to create a little application helping you to add the Nexus like navigation bar
It's a very simple batch based application but i think it's faster than doing it manually.
Sadly I have to say that there is a part you have to work manually, too, otherwise it would recommend you to have 7zip - dos version installed.
(only adding a file to a zip, instructions are given in the application)
This is only tested with CM9 and i'm sure it wont work with any sammy-based rom.
Although i tested this application several times i can't give you any warranty and i'm not responsible for any damage you do to your smartphone.
Maybe it's working with other devices than the GSIII, but i can't test this.
If you are interested i will try to add functionalities like changing icons or amount of icons.
To get started only execute the DoIt.bat , but you have to have Java Runtime installed or you will get an error!

The tool is already working like described in this tutorial.
You can give it a try and use it with your samsung firmware, but maybe there will be complications because of touchwiz.
The risk of doing something wrong is although very small, because the tool will create a backup you can push back if something goes wrong
If you've got a question about pushing back the backup, you can pm me
In addition this tool will work with any cm9 / aosp based ics rom, gingerbread didn't include this feature in his source.
It surely will work with Galaxy SII or Galaxy SI or with any other phone running one of these roms, but i can only try this with my device.
It may also work with a touchwoz based rom, but i think it maybe will give you a compiling - error or something similar.
(Maybe with other Brand - UIs like Sense, Motoblur, ..., too)
So if you try it, please post your results here
After school i'll work on it and add the feature to choose the height of navigation bar and to choose the icons.
Nice work! Thank you for this. Now I don't have to use AOKP just to get the navbar. Navbar is very important for me, because I hate the physical home button.
It's not likely to work directly with Touchwiz ROMs though, since they don't have the resources for the navbar. Just changing navbar=false to true is not enough. It works with CM, because everything necessary is already included.

i' ll try it, thanks. But, does it work only with touchwiz or with any other launcher???
I would like to know if there is any mod or way to include ICS navbar, but keeping stock touchwiz.
The reason is simple, the flimsy home button seems to be the weakest part of SIII, the less we use it, the better.

Hi,
I've made a small change in to the framework-res.apk (and SystemUI.apk for JellyBean) in order to have the navigation bar the same size as the status bar.
This was only tested with stock JRO03C and IMM76I. Proceed with the usual nandroid backup prior to apply.
Files with .jb.zip are ment to be used with JRO03C. Those without are for IMM76I.
Put me in a boot loop on bamf rom. Yes I wiped cache and dalvic. Had to nandriod
I dont think that this will work on other ROM's other than stock(for which it was made) due to the different framework-res. If anyone tries it be sure to make a backup
Would love to get this on bamf..
There should be a way to make it work on all roms

Try using cm9s framework that might make it a universal flash for all roms

Just wondering, what exactly did you change in framework to get it to that size?
AOKP already has this feature built in the ROM for over a month now.
The reason why it's not working for you guys is because the OP states,
This was only tested with stock IMM76I. Proceed with the usual nandroid backup prior to apply.

Meaning it'll ONLY work for stock IMM76I. If you're on other ROMs, those ROMs have a modified SystemUI.APK. So it's causing problems.

It won't because like I said before, every ROM does something different to SystemUI.APK so it won't work. AOKP has this feature built in

I'm not stupid but there is a way to make it flash able for a roms, bc I wouldn't mind trying to add a link to my port if this was possible but then again I can also make just for miui

I never said you are stupid. But every ROM in the world having this small "mod" with the SAME EXACT SystemUI.APK is impossible. That's like saying that every ROM must have the same framework-jar.apk.
Various ROMs in the dev forum already have this feature. And it's even better, you get to CHOOSE what size you want it to be (46,40,36,30).
It's easy to do this mod yourself. That way you can do it on whatever rom you are running. It can be done in 2 or 3 minutes once you know what to type. GUIDE HERE.
Link to working apktool for ICS HERE. Take framework-res.apk from your rom and place it in the same directory as apktool. Type 'apktool if framework-res.apk'. Then type 'apktool d framework-res.apk', make the changes in the guide, type 'apktool b framework-res'. You will get your new apk inside that directory.

^^ either that or download a ROM with this feature. AOKP is one of them. You can control the size of the nav bar in ROM Control (you can change it back if you like as well). Very easy to do.
Don't most custom roms have this option in settings? I'm on liquidsmooth and have seen this on most of the roms I've used in the past few months. There are tons of options but I use 36px (I've used lower but accuracy comes into play).
Liquidsmooth also lets you set custom icons on the fly, nav transparency, background colors, icon colors, etc. Pretty slick.

Same with AOKP.. tbh most LS features are from AOKP's "ROM Control"
I think people are missing the point. Despite the fact that this phone is a modder's dream, there are good reasons why someone would want to keep their phone on the stock ROM (stability, not having to "re-do" your phone once a day/week, if it ain't broke why fix it) but still might want to do little tweaks here and there if possible.
Example: I wanted to see the battery % on the notification bar, but could not justify the 2-3 hours of work reinstalling 100+ apps and tweaking endless system settings on my daily driver phone just to get it, regarelss of what else was in whichever ROM I'd download to get it.
So, even though I don't plan to use this particular mod, I'm glad there are people working on tweaking stock roms and will encourage them as much as possible.
Here's a modified framework for a small nav bar for those on CM9. I have a Verizon CDMA Nexus so it should work fine on Toro. Not sure how it will fair on others...so be cautious.
I also included one that minimizes the nav bar to 0.0 dp for a full screen experience. This should keep the ICS action bar overflow menu displayed for compatible apps. Works best with LMT launcher or GestureControl.
Flash in CWM. As always, make a back up! Enjoy!
Also included a CM9 stock framework if you want to revert back.
Zephik maybe you should tell everyone one more time that aokp has it, just in case

I think you're exaggerating a bit there. I installed AOKP b31 some time ago and apart from trying out b35 yesterday, I'm still on b31 all that time before on a single flash without having to 'redo'. Also, if you're rooted you can just use Titanium Backup for all those apps. Currently running 350+ apps and using TiBu only takes 30 minutes unattended.
I agree that some people prefer stock, but those people are the ones that will never have any intention of flashing anything on their phone.

Ok guys, I am new to any android evelopment but i now have some time on my hand before starting a job developing embedded linux sytems.
So im sure many people are aware of blubbers menu button mod to remove the ics menu buttons.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582506
basically ,me included, alot of other people want different combinations of the keys.
For example
Back: SP->Back
LP->Kill App
Home:SP->Home
LP->RecApps
RecApps: SP->Search
LP->Menu
with the introduction of aroma installer it allows different configurations.
So with the help of the rest of the community i would like to create a mod which allows users to select different cimbinations of short press and long press functions for each of the three buttons. Also add an option to disable the ics menu button if desired.
Anyone that can five me a help to get staryed on this, it owuld be appreciated.

cheers man i do remember reading you saying that a while back. However 'no offense' I do not want to install your rom. I would like to be able to have a mod that could allow this functionality on ANY rom.
however i might actually giver your rom a go. im on ARHD 4.0 (been busy with university recently to notice any uypdates) and your rom certainly seems alot better since i last looked at it.

It'll be awesome to have a stand alone mod to do this, so we can use it with any rom, even stock rooted ones...
j4n87 in your experience do you think it's possible to do this? or the only way is cooking the mod in a ROM like yours?

I really do appreciate the initiative, and just like you, I do like the rom I am running (CM9 alpha 4) but would love to be able to customise the hardware buttons as I please...
Overall, a mod would allow more flexibility to users...

Hi, hope this is the right section.
I love jelly bean but i need aokp notification toggles (i could settle on CM9 toggles too, but i prefer aokp).
Already know "Notification Toggles" app and don't like it. I want something to flash.
I'd like to know if it's possible to create a tutorial to modify a rom (maybe a clean one like one of the many aosp vanilla) and add this feature.
It's true, i could ask developers, but not anyone likes true 2g-3g toggles and i think i want to start being a bit more independent..
Is it a matter of copy and paste or is something complicated?
Thank you

maybe i should try another sub forum? as request for a flashable zip mod for a aosp rom at least. though i'd like to learn..
It would be a fun project and possible. I wish I had my build environment setup I'd work on it. Just merge in the toggles code.
But why not just flash existing ROM with this?

hi roger thanks for the good news. I'd like to be able to do it myself because i want to learn something and especially because not every dev has the toggle fetish as i do (especially the *true* 2g/3g toggle) so i find a lot of interesting roms without toggles and those that have it sometimes are just too customized. I was really in love with jelly bean as came out the day after I/O, i'd like to stick to the vanilla experience with that fundamental mod i need so much. Being a medical student i spend a lot of my time in poor signal areas in the hospital and the 2g allows me to receive notifications in almost every area without draining the battery too much(which the 3g or the continuos shift between 2g and 3g does).
Is it possible to make just one flashable zip to use it on every rom?
Yes its possible but I never learned how to make a patch, only know how to build the ROM from scratch. A patch would be needed into a flash zip.
I wanted to do this cause I like aokp style toggles but nobody else does, so it would be cool to add their toggles.
I rooted my Note 2 (amazingly easy via Note toolkit, thanks), then installed Rom Toolbox and set the DPI to 180. Guess what - NO TABLET MODE! Yes, some apps were with split screen interface, but I saw no navigation bar and no unified notification bar. I am sorely missing the nav bar to the point that I might go back to my beloved Galaxy Nexus.
I guess Samsung have thrown stock Android tablet mode completely out with their Note 2 ROMs.
I can see that Paranoid Android is a ways off, and despite myself I like the S Pen and its associated features, so I was hoping to switch to tablet mode and have the best of both worlds. No luck.
Anyone have any idea how to improve this situation?
It seems like its your first time using any non-nexus phone
There is no tablet mode in stock touchwiz/sense etc if you lower dpi...
They just decrease in size, and apps like keyboard which dont have a "tablet mode" in them FC.
However in Note I there WAS a way to introduce navigation bar for stock rom too...ill post it here so please tell me if it works
Ill be awaiting your feedback :good:

How dare you , just look at my signature! But yes, after Android 4.0, I have been using Galaxy Nexus only - in between I bought a Galaxy Note, flashed stock ICS ROM on it, and enjoyed the tablet benefits. But its horrendous battery life on that ROM made me return to the GNex. I bought Note 2 on launch and am already regretting it because TW is so FUGLY compared to AOSP JB. Thanks for sharing the mod, I will try it and report back

So you are willing to go back to nexus to have the navigation bar that you miss on the Note 2 with 180 dpi? Sure ParanoidAndroid is a solution.. but that means losing S Pen functionality. Then again.. so does moving back to nexus. Might aswell stick to Note 2 legends.

bro can i know if the mod worked? so that i can add it to my jb mod collection
Stock ROMs does include some of the TW tablet roms components - for example, minimode-res.apk - is responsible for running tablet miniapps on Samm tablets. It has no reason to be on phone ROM but it is included. (Is also included in JB stock rom) Only reason why tablet mode do not work well, is some of the NOTE apks are HDPI+XHDPI, but as soon as you lower your DPI, android will start to recognize apps as LARGE/XLARGE MDPI/HDPI and there is no programmed layout for the apps to be running this mode.
See my signature, there is a hacked ICS SystemUi.apk from Tablet 7,7, which is running fine on Note1 with 213dpi and 160dpi(160dpi breaks call functionality) - mod taken from US Note1, thanks Dagr8, Wanam might be there also included, Qaazi76 for posting.... Thank to them, hopefully there will be also interest to run tablet mode on JB Note2 from devs.
After i just replaced that SystemUi on Note1, you have "microtablet" on 160dpi, with miniapps running from Note 10,1, some apps, Splanner, Email from Tablets are running....but there are some gugs. 213dpi works fine, also calls work just Contacts.apk is broken but still usable as a Phone for daily in TW tablet mode. Anyway, this is NOTE 2 related so...i believe that stock JB rom is capable to run Tablet, just needs some hacking.
So, as soon as some samsung tablet gets JB, hopefully some of the previous hackers (dagr8,etc...) will work on tablet UI for stock TW rom. Or, they may take the previous hacked systemUi as a sample, or somebody might just try to replace the systemUi from the thread just to try.
Hopefully they will work on it as i still keep N1 cause tablet mode. Sorry Samsung, but i see no sense to have big screen with big fonts, icons etc...Your stock UI for NOTEs is wrong!!!
Layout after setting to 213dpi - is very OK for the screen size (I mean Note1)
160dpi - is too small

navigation bar can be enabled by editing build.prop
add this line at the end of build.prop to enable:

I was wondering if someone could port the MIUI Power Control Widget to AOSP or Stock Samsung Roms.
I think it looks really good. It has got the same function as the AOSP toggles but if you click the 3 dots, a bigger menu opens (see screens attached).

I've been asking this for a while in different forums but it seem to fall on deaf ears. I would like to see it replace the stock power control widget that you seem to get in all roms as the miui one look soo much nicer.

but if you know what and how I am very willing to learn. :fingers-crossed:
Ya know, i have never even seen that get brought up before. It is a beautiful widget and would be great if someone can port it. Im not too sure if it is possible though because it may require the miui framework which has quite a few changes from aosp. If your interested, I have a section in my thread (link in sig) that has all (at least to my knowledge) MIUI ports to date.

hey thanks mate will have a read I'm currently using miui v5 from HERE
it's the unofficial miui v5 so as far as my thick skull knows with it's less than average knowledge of these things it should be compatible/work.
would I be right in thinking that getting the right xml files and graphics from the mihome launcher app and putting them into the rom somewhere e.g. framework-res.apk, frameworkmiui-res.apk or miuihome.apk should add the widget to the rom? or am I way off?
