I just upgraded to the gakaxy s3 on at&t ans I noticed it has the UCLI5 build of TW on it. I searched and there really isn't much info on rooting it withi ut tripping tge flash counter. I saw one method that used cf-autoroot and triangle away, but every thingbI have read seems to point to the mrrobinson method, but there is no info about what to do if your phone came with UCLI5 stock/brand new. I would like to root/flash a custom recovery because I hate TW. I've never tinkered with a phone before so this is kinda new to me, byt I have rooted and flashed abunch of roms on my nexus 7, so hopefully its real similar. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just don't want my data speeds or something messed up, because im getting around 40 mb down on my lte right now. If anyone else has UCLI5 and could help, then thanks.

why direct him away from this site? any and all information he needs can be found right here... just more work for everyone if he messes something up.
Hey guys, sorry for posting this, but im desperate and have read until my eyes are falling out of my skull. I am willing to work with any dev if they need specific work/software ran/info to make this happen. Is there, or is there not clear concise directions on rooting SGH-T889v (wind mobile variant of note 2)?
remember we use AWS for our signal, the modem stuff is all different. this is were my expertise kinda falls short. BUT I AM WILLING TO HELP TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN. As far as iv'e seen there are no current methods of rooting this phone which is a damn shame considering its horsepower. i saw the all in one toolkit for note 2's, and i simply cannot afford to donate to unlock the functionality of the update that supports wind. So only ONE guy knows how? I believe dev's should get paid and should accept donations, they are the real workers and smart guys. I don't work for free either, However this kinda defeats the purpose of the ecosystem we fought so hard to have.... open and accessible platforms were we the users are in control. By with holding the method, its no longer donating, it's close sourcing ala apple, microsoft, etc. Zero offence to that guy, id just really love to "own" MY phone. Can someone PLEASE help? pass the word? anything? a peep?

If you don't mind the flash counter, you could simply use an Odin flashable (N7100) CWM tar, push the superuser zip of your choosing to /data/media/ (linked to /sdcard/) and install that from CWM.
What I know is that the rooting part is all fine and dandy, sure its a little harder than the rest, but its okay, it not too hard. The problem I keep reading is that the ROMS aren't truly compatible with the device, as data become atrociously slow. A method one, respected fellow, recommended we take was to flash a modem that is "for" our device variant. I say that because people reported bootloops due to it. Also there's a greater chance for our device to lose its IMEI number...not sure if these problems have been resolved. But yeah your problem really isn't rooting its the whole deal afterwards, again I am going by what I've read, I myself do not wish to take the chance of it becoming unusable, so i stay far until I got time to research more and some brilliant helpful mind comes along and solves all problems.

i think thats the issue, we just generally need someone more brilliant xD as per the "gentleman" that again, suggested using the donating kit, please re-read my post. whats this business about a flash counter????
darn shame still nothing regretting purchasing this phone completely due to this :/
I used the toolkit to root my N2 (Videotron T889v) without any problems. Just used the T-Mobile option since they are the same phone, just different software. The only difference is the modem from what I've read. Rooting does not change the modem that you currently have right now. If you decide you want to install a custom rom, then you may have to flash your modem back. I am currently using Jedi X rom without any problems and I can honestly say that it's faster than stock. He also provides a link with our modem so we can flash it after the install. All the T-Mobile software has been taken out, so you won't have to deal with any of it. Here are the links for the toolkit and rom.

Jedi X rom - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1987634
There are 2 Jedi Roms available. Jedi X has the multi-window function working but no wifi calling. I believe the other is called Jedi Master and that one has wifi calling but no multi-window. I'm not sure if the wifi calling is a T-Mobile thing but I never installed that rom and can't really give much more info on it. In the end, you can always go back to stock if you're not satisfied. You can find a copy of your stock rom at sammobile. I would suggest making sure it's still available before doing anything.
As for the OP, this is my first time dealing with a flash counter although not my first time rooting. The flash counter is some type of software that Samsung puts in their phones to be able to tell if you have "tampered" with the phone's software. From what I've noticed, when you put your phone in the "download" state and install anything, that triggers the counter to rise. If you send your phone to Samsung for service and the counter is not 0, they will deny service since you would have broken your warranty. There is a program called Triangle Away that will return your counter back to 0, should you need to return the phone to Samsung. Although in my case it would only take it back down to 1 using their instructions. I finally got it back to 0 by adding an extra step. From what I've read, I think it depends on the kernel that you're using. Here is the link for the program.

I'm not an expert on any of this, just trying to help. I can say that I've rooted, unrooted and reset my flash counter back to 0 along with my stock Videotron rom.
Good luck

so you flashed the modem that ptmr3 provided for the t889v along with his jedi x rom and all good is good? no signal issues ? you get hspa+?
First Post:
I'm on Wind Mobile T889v Note 2. And I cant wait for this phone to get rooted so that I can run debian or whatever have you full blow linux desktop experience on my phone.
The current limited version of android on its own is too limiting for the processing beast that this phone is.

That is correct. Never had any issues whatsoever. Always get full signal strength, no disconnections and overall great service. As long as you flash after the rom, you will get your modem back. To be honest, the rom itself has never changed my modem, I always just flash it in case it's just reporting it as an error. In the directions it states that it will change it but I always check it and it has remained the same every time.
you mean by letting bootup and set up first then go back to twrp or cwm? and then flash the modem...my exams are done hoping to do it by tomorrow.

After you flash the rom (if you're flashing Jedi) you need to let it sit for 10 minutes on the first boot up (after the android logo, just use the reboot option after the 10 minutes). Once you've booted up and finished your setup, just go back into cwm or twrp and flash the modem.
how did you reset the flash counter with triangle away? it doesnt seem to work on my 889V

Welcome to the the dark side!!! Well the tripped flash counter is a Samsung can check to see how many times your flashed a non Samsung kernel on the phone using Odin or heimdall. Its important to have it at 0 if your sending your phone back to Samsung for repairs or if your exchanging for a new one with att.you can look up chainfire on xda. He has a app call triangle away which is can reset the flash counter.if you find his thread on xda he explains the flash counter a lot better. The only other important things I believe you should know is you can flash some T-Mobile galaxy s3 roms (search the thread to make sure tho), as you may know every phone is different so some kernels may work for you others may not and the root method is different from HTCs so read the stickes and theards or find a update to date video on how to root. I hope you enjoy this beast of a phone!!! Once again welcome

Thanks for the help, i just dont have much money and since im coming from an HTC phone i know its going to be different...dont want a very expensive paper weight do i??QUOTE=blackstar_329;39618110]Welcome to the the dark side!!! Since you'll be getting the att model look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2042775 ape made an excellent tutorial for beginners when it comes to rooting the s3. it has pictures and he even package a root kit follow the instructions and you should be fine. Before trying make sure you have a good understanding of it first. I believe it even helps you install cwm. Once your Rooted if you want twrp just download its either goo. Im or too manager I don't remember from the android market and install twrp from there. Once again if you run into a problem search the thread first because more then likely someone had that same problem or you can message me and I will try my best to help you and guide you through it. Like i said before there are turns of tuts ane vids out there to help you

The best thing you could do right now is read up and understand these different processes and procedures. There are many who don't and find themselves on this forum with broken, sometimes unfixable phones.
Look over the link in my signature. It can guide you from start to finish and ensure that you cover all your bases as safely and smoothly as possible.

Unlike your HTC you have to try really hard to brick a Samsung phone...other than that make backups of your EFS, IMEI, and keep a nandroid of rooted stock ROM on hand and you are good to go. Like more Galaxy S phones its fairly fool proof and if something happens you can get out of it. Don't flash anything for the international version. I prefer TWRP for recovery because its user interface is a lot better but to each there own.
Hey guys, this is my first post on the forums, and forgive me if I am posting in the wrong section and if I am, please let me know where to post this question, thanks in advanced.
So I am one of the very many who are unfortunate enough to have android 4.3 On my Note 2, and then I was stupid enough to r00t it. So in turn, my knox count went from a nice 0x0 to an ugly 0x1.
So i did some reading and from what I understood, Sammy can reset it themselves but say goodbye to the warranty. I just got off the phone from a local cell phone repair shop, and the guy told me that he can reset it for me for 50 dollars.
My question is, should I trust this guy and have him reset it for me? Is he actually going to reset it? Or will he just hide it so the knox 0x1 doesnt even show at all?
My goal is to simply get the phone in a state where I can get it replaced under warranty, and advice would be greatly appreciated.
Again, forgive me if I broke any rules.
Sammy clearly can reset this counter...but I've yet to see any method posted from the development community...
Therefore...I'm Leary of the promises out there...g

Yeah, I am suspicious kinda myself. I was wondering maybe these cell phone repair shops have a special tool they order from sammy or something. Cuz the guy was very confident when he answered me and said "yeah We can do that for you and restore the warranty", it was almost as if he had done it a million times.
Anyways Ill wait a bit and ask around some more, thanks for the information though
if the repair guy is an samsung authorized guy then maybe he could. but if hes not then save your money and wait till devs on here have a way to do it. this way you know your not just geting scammed.
If his company had a deal with Samsung then he can reset the knox counter. I my last meeting with Samsung they stated we would be able to reset the corporate phones we are thinking about buying for my company in our own IT department, to avoid having to send them out to Samsung.
As I have said before knox is installed to keep employees from modding corporate phones. To the average consumer it means nothing.

Okay I got s new update on the whole Knox thing.
Samsung has confirmed it can be reset. Knox begin tripped effect the software of the phone only it does not trip an actual hardware fuse. However we are now being told that we will not be allowed to have the software because it might compromise the integrity of Knox for them to let other companies have it.
Do to this I asked a few more specific questions regarding the future of the phone once Knox has been tripped.
I can confirm that this does not void a physical damage warranty unless there is proof that the phones kernel has been modified. Not sure how they could tell but that's what they said.
Also I can confirm that it will not effect your devices ability to upgrade to new android versions when they come out. However when the upgrade comes out it will not be able to install the Knox portion of the upgrade. As long as Knox is tripped it will not reinstall on the device.
I can also confirm that the device will continue to operate normally with Knox tripped. Knox is designed to keep a small portion of the device compartmentalize, once tripped it removes that compartment and formats it into the rest of the device.
This is all per a Samsung 4 Business rep as of this morning.
They were actually pretty straight forward and open about it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
Thanks for the info. But you seem to have been told 2 totally contrasting stories, which makes me suspicious.Did the guy know that most,if not all private users want to remove knox, opposed to hack it or the like. They could potentially lose more private customers than gaining ones from business sector.
It seems to me you voided your warranty when you rooted it. Every rooting thread I ever saw states this.
Yeah rooting kills the warranty, but Im hoping by doing triangle away and making everything else look official, ill try to blame the 0x1 I got on hardware issues, since I truly do have a camera issue and a network bar issue, ill just say I called a Sammy rep and they took me through a procedure and this is what happened, ill see what happens

after triangle away i made it look official as possible (attached pic) plus stock 4.3 rom, ill blame knox 1 trip it on hardware or faulty motherboard

Is this only true of the Note II?
I used the Kingo root method, went well was even able to install TIBackup and a few other applications.
However, I've looked and there are posts that "show" the Knox status in startup mode but where do I find it? IF I didn't flash a custom recovery to NOT trip knox, how do I verify that Knox is still 0x0?
I am hoping I am not asking a repetitive question because I did do a search on the Q&A forum first and found lots of posts "about" Knox and various other posts about this but, and PLEASE FORGIVE ME IF I DIDN'T FIND IT AND AM ASKING A REDUNDANT QUESTION, how do I confirm I haven't tripped Knox?
Thank you in advance.

Thank you, much obliged. I swear this was driving me nuts.
FYI, in case anyone else is wondering, Kingo works great on the T-Mobile Note 3 root and no Knox trip.
Now to remove bloatware...

i read on another thread that they worked out the security issues with kingo. i used it to root and it was quick and easy. havent experienced any side effects. it doesn't trip KNOX
I hate knox!!!
I just do not understand WHY they felt the need to put this Knox crap in the software. IJS

Be careful. I just used the kingo app on my stock note3 and it tripped my knox warranty. So be very careful. Just proves you can't believe everything that you read.

Edit: The kingo program installed clockwork mod recovery on my phone during the rooting process.

The Kingo program installed supersu on my device and that's it. I still have 0x0 Knox. So, no idea what happened with yours. I don't even think CWM is included in Kingo.

Kingo does not load a recovery, just a copy of supersu to provide root access. You did something to cause cwm to be installed. Perhaps a different process or you loaded cwm afterwards yourself?
I can confirm Kingo does not trip Knox, unless you did something afterwards or maybe you do not have original T-mo phone, I think the new bootloaders are locked and will trip flag, but I think T-mo should still be on MI7.

I thought it was weird also. But the only thing I did was verify the bootloader version at MI7 and ran the program. I watched the program run and freaked out when I saw the cyanogen robot. I didn't even have that recovery anywhere on the phone where the program could access it. I'm not sure how our why it happened. I'm new to that program and this phone but not new to flashing. I was trying to preserve all warranties and remain stock. Just wanted root. Hopefully someone will figure out how to revert knox one day.

I just read the kingo changelog and as of version 1.1.7 there are scripts added to use a custom recovery to inject root. On their Facebook page it even says to be aware of the risks involved in flashing a custom recovery. I used version 1.1.8 and at no time did it say it was going to install a recovery nor did it give me the option to choose not to. I am trying to get sold off the people that developed the app but cannot find an email address on the website. I'm glad that the program has worked for so many. Sad that it didn't for me. If anyone could tell me if I did something wrong it would be appreciated. Seems like I am the only one this has happened to.

Sorry to hear that, when I get home tonight I'll verify which version I used, but I just double checked and my Knox flag is not tripped yet. To be fair there was at least one huge warning in red letters saying I will loose my warranty and brick my phone by using this program, so I was actually sort of expecting to trip the flag. Also it seems T-mo does not check Knox flag, or at least I have not seen one T-mo customer claiming his warranty was refused yet, due to that.
It would be nice to figure out why it didn't work for you, when it worked for many others, so we can post warning.

I agree. And thank you for the info regarding tmobile. I just can't figure out what I would have done wrong. The warranty could be an issue but I'll deal with that if it ever arises. I was just trying to keep the phone as stock as possible. Thank you for your assistance.

I used Kingo 1.1.8.1835, no problems, what's your version? And how do I check if they installed CF recovery?

I used 1.1.8. I just powered down and then used volume+,power and home to bit into recovery. The cool thing out of this if there is anything, is that the cwm recovery is the touch version. I had never used that version before.

Stock recovery on mine and we used same version, strange
Worked PERFECTLY!
Just completed the process of rooting my new GN3...FLAWLESS! Now on to some custom ROMs!!! :victory:
Is there a way to undo root of in use kingo. I will probably want to take the kitkat ota when it released, but want to root to use some xposed mods till then.

I think you just hook your phone up, start up Kingo and press unroot. I have not tried it myself but the option should be there. As a matter of fact there is nothing I read so far to want me upgrade and many to not.
