Posting this on behalf of rob43 since I'll be compiling the Toro builds for him. His original thread can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1729942
This ROM is based on CM9 with rob43's status bar implementation called "Salad Bar". Nothing else will be added or changed outside of Rob's changes. Anytime he posts an update, I'll compile a new build and update it here. All credit due to Rob43 for his changes and of course the CM team for the rest.
So what's salad bar? It's essentially a combined status and navigation bar. Navigation bar buttons follow the stock layout (left is back, center is home, right is recent apps). To expand the notification tray...hold and swipe up. Salad bar can be toggled off and on from Settings.

The nav bar is combined with the status bar. I updated the OP with a little more clarification.

I believe the issue in your second shot (with the contextual menu) is known already. I don't remember if it's something that was intended by rob or if he's going to fix it in the next build. I guess we'll see!
I've seen the bug in the first one but orienting the screen around or performing a reboot makes it go away. Not exactly sure what's causing it.
I've also noticed that this ROM is continually turning my Bluetooth on. Such a weird bug, lol.
Edit.
Wow I'm really diggin this idea may have to flash this and give it a run!

I've seen that bluetooth issue as well. It seems rather random.
Anyways rob has incoming changes for the next build in the next couple of days. I'll be posting a new Toro build shortly after.
Some awesome new features:
- Gestures left/right for each button
- Jellybeaniness - See*http://imgur.com/2wN1Q
- adjustable height

Interesting stuff, I'm gonna keep my eye on this one. I'll at the very least wait until the next build and see if some of the bugs mentioned were fixed.
So the clock is actually the home button? Pretty slick.
I'm keeping my eye on this one once it hits 4.1

If all goes well, there will be a new build with the following changes incoming tonight or tomorrow.
- Gestures/Long press/Press customization for all bar buttons are now added*http://i.imgur.com/FkmO5.png
- Bar buttons default to: previous track when swiping left, next track when swiping right, search when long pressing recents (everything else is as the previous default)
- JB styling
It'll be the last changes rob will implemented until CM10/Jelly Bean is ready.

You can't if you're using the toro version. Mooem7 had the gracefulness to port the original maguro version to toro. Once the toro version is updated then you should be able to.

From what I understand, yes. But it's made for maguro (GSM) so you might need to make some modifications to get it to work? Could be wrong though, haven't done much building myself. Check the original thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1729942
It should have the information you would need to to grab the source and port it over.

Actually there's not really any modification on my part, essentially when you compile CM9 or even AOSP, you can specify which build you require so it includes the correct binaries and device specific files. It's a bit more complicated than that I guess but I'm not really the right person to explain it.
Anyways, I loaded this up and it seems to be working good. Let me know if there's anything wrong and I'll report back to rob if there are issues.
Oh and another note, these will be the last changes before JB. Next update may or may not be based on CM. Rob43 was thinking about implementing salad bar based on AOSP instead of CM10 (that is until CM10 is ready for nightlies).

Been on this ROM for a day, and it is very quick. Nice to see some original ROM elements. Can't wait for more features to be implemented

30 minutes with the rom and this is what I have to report so far:
1. Very snappy.
2. Original Rom settings, very polished!
3. Better clock widget.
Bugs:
1. Play Video seems to crash every time.
seems different from other ROMs, gonna flash it now
I'd love the option to be able to reorder the navbar buttons - is this possible?
This is gonna sound Mega noob... but I really want to download this, only thing I need to know is what is the difference between the toro and maguro download links? Both are 1.01?

Apologies. About ten second before you wrote this I figured it out as I swore I had seen it somewhere.
Looking forward to trying this
Great ROM. Has the necessary customization (for me) available, smooth, well laid out, obviously a lot of work went into this. One thing I do typically miss when I try out other ROMs however are Quiet Hours +/- Profiles.
Quality ROM, and a more than worthy alternative for fine ROM connoisseurs.
Voltage Control dont work for me!
I use popcorn 8.3

hmm.. stupid question gets a stupid answer. yes, you can try, no one is stopping you, its your own choice. BUT, 1, chances are it wont flash/youll get an error, 2, if it does flash you will most likely brick your galaxy note. you can not flash roms from different kinds of phone, they are not compatible.
I just flashed it an I like the salad bar. :good:
The only thing I didn't get at first was that I have to swipe up on the bar to get the notifications.

Not yet...working on it. This one is not going to get the rapid updates as the last one...but they will trickle out from time to time. Working on power widgets and themes first...and lock screen settings and options. Then nav bar settings and status bar settings.
Nice, thanks for your hard work man!

First first first ?
Is there a transparent status bar?
Howdy,
Thanks for your work. I have a few questions, if you care to answer. If they seem like newbie questions, that's because I am a newbie.
When you describe your ROM as 'lightweight', what exactly do you mean? What has been taken out of Google's code that makes this better than aosp in terms of battery, performance, stability?
Second, Google's official list of Nexus images doesn't have LMY47I for manta yet, only LMY47D. Are they delaying release because it isn't finalised and bug-free yet? In that case would it have been better to base you ROM on the released version?
Third, afaik franciscofranco hasn't released his lollipop manta kernel yet, so which kernel are you using?
Lastly, I'm on the stock LMY47D, rooted. Your promise of battery, stability, performance seems attractive. Games, movies & web are 99% of what I do on my N10. Do you think I should switch? I'll need to decide for myself, I know. Just asking your personal opinion.
Cheers, and thanks once more.
Thanks guys for bringing Chroma to our Manta. Already installed, it's a smooth sailing. Paired with Khaons kernel is flying. I can't find any bugs so far... Oh...now it's hard to choose what layers to install

Sorry it took long to answer, been out and about with no service.
Chroma is based on aosp with some bloat removed (mostly outdated aosp apps) and lightweight code for features (no big bloated code )
Google releases don't matter because we have the source code for lm47I (which was mostly sim code changes so those don't apply to tablets)
This doesn't have Franco kernel (other devices with chroma have it if a current supported kernel is available), this uses the prebuilt stock aosp kernel for now.
As far as battery, stability, etc. Fixing bugs in aosp's code improves these. Performance is achieved by bug fixes and a art conpiler trick (the optimizing apps at first boot) that force more into the ahead of time cache files
Can anyone confirm audio working? Not getting any sound through the soaker speaker or headphones... I'm at work, try to do a log cat later

Maybe it's just me, but after going through the set up and about to restore my apps, I just keep getting "unfortunately Google Play Store has steopped". This only happens after I flash GApps, until then the ROM is stable(ish)

It's a problem with the GApps. Apparently a number of GApps are having this problem when using the new gapps.
To workaround the problem, go to Settings > Apps > Play Store and clear app and clear cache.
Or use older gapps, I mirrored the old GApps https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934551489
