This may or may not have been noticed by everyone else but it's incredibly hard to organize my backups because cwm dates them in the 1970's. The time is also many many hours off. Any fixes or is this a known issue?

Yes it's a known issue that has not been fixed yet. I personally organize my backups in a folder describing what I have done to require the backup.
Ok cool, you can rename them as long as there aren't spaces in the name right?

After reflashing my rom I changed my SCH-R760 (US Cellular's version of the E4gT) i changed the build.prop folder to appear as a Nexus S. I know i did it right because ive done it several times before in the past, and websites even recognize my phone as a Nexus S, but for some reason I still cant see certain apps I know that I should see in the Market (particularly Gameloft games). What's wrong?
What's wrong is you're taking a phone, trying to have it identified as a different phone, and then posting issues about it in another, different phones thread.

cool story bro.
They don't have a forum ATM. They're poor nomads. I found a site for them, but it only has stock tars, miui, and cm. Here ya go buddy.

thanks again theroot youre the man. i just figured that since this is a general android question that can attribute to literally ALL phones, people wouldn't be thread nazis like whatshisface up there. i appreciate the help once again!
Hey, so I just got a GS3 after coming from an Evo 4G LTE, and so far I'm loving it. Plus, this is my first Samsung phone, my previous 3 have all been HTC. (The many versions of the EVO) Anyway I do have a few questions that maybe someone can help me with.
1. I noticed that there are different settings for the vibration. Now, when I receive a txt it seems to do the basic ring vibration. I saw that there's an option to create your own vibration, which is pretty cool, but it didn't set for my txt messaging, perhaps I'm doing it wrong?
2. This might be just me or perhaps I'm just used to the keyboard on sense, but I'm noticing I'm making a lot of mistakes while typing. Lol, it's probably just me.
3. I love how samsungs threw in a lot of neat (or gimmicky) features. However, if I'm concerned about battery are there any I should turn off (I know motion is one, but I kinda like it)
4. Out of curiosity, what rom is everyone using? I'm debating whether to stay stock rooted, although I might switch to AOKP. Lol unlike sense, touchwiz really doesn't have a lot of issue with it.
5. Now if I do switch to AOKP or AOSP how is the camera quality?
Thanks in advanced!

1. No idea I haven't been on touchwiz since i got my phone
2. I hate the Samsung keyboard I switch to a ICS keyboard that's available in the market
3. Not sure. The only motion I ever left on was the swipe your palm to screen shot and I didn't noticed a decrease in battery. As long as you clear stuff in the task manager you should be fine
4. I've been on Paranoid Android for awhile. Touchwiz isn't as bad as people make it seem just not my style. A lot of cool looking touchwiz roms
5. Camera quality should be exactly the same except you lose certain features that are only available on the touchwiz

1. I am pretty sure the vibrate pattern is just for incoming calls not notifications even if you create a custom.
2. Yea lots of different keyboards mess around with a few find the one that fits you. I am using the new swiftkey flow and will not be looking back.
3. When on a TW rom I only use the swipe screenshots and hold phone to ear to call no battery issues for me. I delete S voice completely and disable other motion controls I dont need.
4. Currently running FreeGS3 3.0 really enjoying it. I spend most of my time on CM or other AOSP roms but if you are happy with TW for my phone anyways FreeGS3 has been very solid with the right amount of features and completely stable. The Aroma installer is easy and feature filled almost idiot proofs ROM installation.
5. As he said above the image quality will be fine just loose a few shiny du hickys in the camera ui
Thanks for both of your replies. I'm going to try CM and some other touchwiz roms.
Okay I have another question to. What is the purpose of the 0 folder inside of Scdard0. I noticed that some app data like Titanium Backup is defaulting there.
yeah im new to this phone as well and was wondering the same. The storage, extsd, and 0 thing throws me off sometimes. I'll get used to it though.

True! Actually I just found out some interesting information. Apparently the "0" folder holds all the information that was in the /sdcard folder before the jellybean update. Another user found it on their galaxy nexus. Oddly enough, most of the folders in mine were empty. Titanium Backup was the only one taking up space because for some reason it backed up there, I also had around 200mb in the android data folder, but I really had a hard time finding out where, so anyway I just ended up deleting it. So far no ill effects.

Yeah, I read this in another thread when a user couldn't find anything on their sdcard
Its weird why they would do that though, maybe to separate phone stuff from things that the user puts on their sdcard? Idk
By the way, just had to say this but I love your sig, the "life would be so much easier....." part
I love to code myself and I just found that really awesome lol
Haha thanks, it made me chuckle too when I first read it.

Someone I know has a GNEX stock 4.1 Android and they want me to put CM10.1 on it. Can I install CM10.1 on a stock android gnex without wiping it?
I know i can and that it is possible, but I guess my real question is if it is advisable or if I might run into issues, FCs, etc. from not wiping? I just want to avoid having to backup/restore apps and data....On going between any other ROMs i would wipe, but I'm thinking you may not have to if coming from stock Android...?
no.. ALWAYS do a clean flash when changing android versions and also post questions in the Q&A section
It's probably not advisable to proceed without wiping.
That said, TiBu and Carbon (app by Koush, not the ROM) should get your friend's data back on the phone after rooting it. I haven't used either option, but I wish they were available the first time I ever rooted a few years ago. With TiBu you make a backup through ADB before rooting and then use "Extract from ADB backup" in the app's Menu. And I know Carbon works without root and syncs to the cloud.
Probably not the answer you were looking for, but at least you have options. GL
Thanks for the answers. I am very familiar with backups including Carbon and TiBu, as I do all kinds of crazy stuff on my SCH-i535. I was just hoping I could skip a few steps since it'd be coming from stock android. I've just never had/used a gnex before.
I've had my gnex since it was released. I finally installed 10.1 recently and wish I would have done this a long time ago. Big battery life change and quite a bit faster. Not to mention I don't have top wait for Verizon to take their sweet ass time with software releases. Must clean install though, just back up everything not to difficult or painful.

The backup won't be a problem as I can do all that, but since the phone is for a friend, the biggest problem is they won't like having to redo shortcuts, homescreen, etc.
I'll just have to convince them it will be worth it.
thanks for the input!
Tell them to dl a launcher, then save that in the backup.

Huh... Remember, 4.2.x based roms have a different file tree because of multi user support.

Sorry for hijacking this thread, but I have stock 4.2.2. By wiping you mean Android only, or every single bit of data?

I've been playing with my new and shiny VirginROM for a couple of days now, and while I am really happy with it, a friend of mine has been nagging me to try out a few different ROMs before I finally settle down for the Chosen One. So I looked around, and both AOKP and CM look interesting. My concern is that, assuming the flashing goes smoothly, I might lose some application data and/or settings. I do have up-to-date backups of my current ROM, so my gut feeling is that I should be able to recover at least some, if not all of my data, but since I've never done this, I don't really know...
Let's assume for now that I want to try AOKP. What apps/tools/guides should I acquaint myself with if I want to:
Back my current ROM up. I've been using CWM backups, is there a better way?
Restore only my apps and settings after I flash AOKP.
Titianium backup will back up your user app and settings. Never restore any system apps or data. That you will have to redo on every flash. Nova launcher can back up it's widget set ups.

I might suggest taking a look at Infamous ROM. It's based on Touchwiz, so it includes wifi calling if that is important to you. Neither AOKP or CM will have that.
Infamous also includes the framework for an app called 3minit, which allows essentially every customization option that I can remember from AOKP on my Galaxy S2 and then tons more. Dev support is excellent.
Everyone has their favorite of course, just thought it might be worth mentioning. Good luck looking around.

I remember looking at Infamous' thread here, on XDA, when I was choosing ROMs. It looked like one of the more attractive ones, but I remember discarding it for some reason I can no longer recall. I'll take another look, now that I am (a little) more knowledgeable about ROMs in general.

As was already mentioned, 99% of the time, you don't want to use TiBu to restore your apps+data. From my experiments though, using TiBu (or backing up only the data partition you used on TouchWiz) is fine to use on other versions of TouchWiz. Say you want to go from WickedV4 to BobCat from the i9505 section... TiBu app+data backups (flashable update.zips too) and CWM/TWRP data partition restores will work just fine... that is not the case if you're switching between, for example, TW and AOKP; or between AOKP and CM. Most definitely use TiBu, but unless you're going between different versions of the same ROM, don't restore your data; just restore the apps.
As for everything else, your gallery is fine.. anything on your internal memory/external SD card is fine and won't be touched. There are apps that will backup your text messages and your APN settings if need be. It's not a whole lot of hassle and, once you get the hang of everything, one should be able to have a newly flashed ROM up and running like they've been using it for weeks within about 15-20 minutes.
Hi guys.
I have seen an option for a while in the security settings to enable encryption. This sounds like a good idea to me at the moment as I'll be crossing borders next month. I want to give it a shot but have some questions for people who have experience using it.
Details: Sprint Galaxy Nexus (toroplus) running unofficial CM10.2 nightlies with an up to date TWRP installed.
First question is probably the most important. If **** hits the fan how difficult is it to remove the encryption or reflash. Say worst case scenario bootloops with only recovery access.
How much of a pain is it to flash a new nightly. My brief reading just says to mount a partition as tmpfs and adb push the zip so the recovery can find it.
How is performance?
Lastly is it safe? What I mean is are there any strange hiccups that happen that a user of encryption should be aware of?
Thanks ahead of time. I really wanted to ask because I have never seen much buzz. Especially from the root community which sorta makes sense if it adds a step for us flashaholics.
