Can I get a new "Paint Job" on my phone? - Thunderbolt Accessories

I don't know what this guy did, but it had to involve summoning an evil demon:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424697
As for me it doesn't work. I used up & up nail polish remover.
Should I use paint thinner or is that too dangerous for my other components?
How about painting this phone?

Painting the HTC Universal's housing

So... I've purchased a Vodafone v1640 from eBay a while back.. and I'm sick of the silver housing! I'd rather have a white or black housing, so I plan on opening the sucker up to paint it! I'm pretty sure I have no warrenty anyway, as I purchased from eBay and am not on a Vodafone plan (Cingular here in the USA)...
My question is... what's the best type of paint to do this with? Any special sort of paint?
Or, I guess, if there's anywhere I could buy different housings for it, pre-painted.. that'd work too.
Any input at ALL would be greatly appreciated! ;D
I want some infos too on this case for a new housing because black housing for Universal looks the best.
From my experience of disassembling the HTC Charmer, I think the HTC stuff are kinda tightly fitted, it might not be that easy to have it painted. I mean, I'm not sure how good you are at painting, but for the paint job I did (on other stuff, toys, cars, shelves, not the phone, yet), I usually end up with a thick (relatively) layer of paint on it, which I think may cause problem when you try to assemble the phone up again.
So, my advise, make sure you can really do a skin tight paint job before you try it on the phone, as it seems that it is really difficult to get a spare casing for HTC stuff.
BTW, you may want to look at some of the web site for PC modding, where they tend to mod their keyboard and mouse, giving them new paint job, probably such forums will have experts on the paint that you should be using.
you might have to experiment a bit if you haven't painted before...
The most impoportant thing is to find a dry place with no humidity.
You can get the retouching spray for cars called deco paint. It will work well.
p.s. IMO black housing will look good if you have a black keyboard.
Hmm black keyboard...
very good point.
i once painted my dreamcast controller black 8)
just used a normal spray can for it (didn´t have an airbrush at that time yet)
works very easy:
- open it up and remove all things you dont want to spray
- clean everything very good (with terpentine/gasoline/ammonia for example)
- let it dry
- spray it (very thin, because you don´t want to make drops of paint on it) from about 15-20cm away (any closer and it will be more difficult to avoid paintdrops and keeping the paint thin
- let it dry in a clean enviroment
after a few months of usage the paint will shine on spots where you hold it much...
so you might want to spray some colourless shine stuff (sorry: don´t know the name for it in english, it is ´lak´ in dutch) on it after the paint is drie to have the color remain the same way
or you could just touch it everywhere so the shine is everywhere
heh, it's close in english, it's pronounced 'lak-ker', spelt lacquer
Anyone have any luck with this repainting the case idea? Any pictures?
i did my old mpx 220 before black cases were out, i used a special, plastics spraypaint from krylon. flat black ,and clear topcoat. i dont have the pictures anymore but it was nice. just take your time read up on painting . thin light coats and follow the directions on the can.

Debadge Phone?

What's the best method to remove the Operator logo off front of phone casing?
My opinion is to use some Brasso and rub it off.. It will take a bit of rubbing..
I would not use anything as abrasive as the sugar method.

Have you debadged your phone via this method?
Had heard of the sugar trick but wasn't sure what table sugar was anyway?

With the sugar method, you tape around the area of the logo, and you moisten regular table sugar (same stuff you use on cereal, oat meal, etc) and rub it on the image...
This method is really no different than sand paper.
Brasso is much less abrasive, but serves the same purpose...You could also use scratch remover for cars, etc..
Any method you choose will more than likely create a shiny spot where your logo was..
i say just remove the actual aluminum panel and use sand paper on the whole surface, that way you get the same even lines and you simply glue it back on. No biggie. Then again, all this work to remove a logo?....nah.

Housing wihtout Camera Hole

Hi folks,
due to security reasons i am not allowed to use my loved artemis inside my company.
Do you know a new cover without the hole for the camera?
This is the only way i can get access with Artemis and not beeing fired.
greets,
neil
not sure there is one....
BUT you could always take the housing apart and make a cover for it yourself...Just remove the clear one and replace with some thin plastic covering...
just an idea..
than I still have the text "2.0 Mega Pixel" on the device.
Our security guys won't accept that.
lol... well, you could paint it over, then use some superglue to permanently glue some sort of plastic thingy (maybe something like a fake plastic diamond of the similar size) to over the camera whole

[Q] How do I make a new volume button?

I managed to semi-break my volume key and i want to make a new one before it breaks fully. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to make a new one because I am a complete amateur at this kind of thing.

You could buy a new one and replace it? Look at this link: http://is.gd/LqdkBU
Epoxy Putty would be your best bet. I've used it to fix snowboards, games consoles and loads of other stuff. It's great because you can mix it to suit the application. For example, when using it to fix a snowboard I needed to maintain a little bit of flexibility to move with the snowboard, so I used about 60% hardener and 40% adhesive. To build a replacement button you would probably be best with a 50/50 mix.
Once you have it roughly the same size you let it harden for 24hrs and use either a Dremel / exacto knife and sand paper to shape it perfectly like the original.
Finally, some white primer, silver spray paint and clear coat lacquer will finish it off. For best result sand it lightly with fine grade sand paper between each coat of primer and silver. Then apply clear coat, leave to dry and polish with a cloth.
Just Google Epoxy Putty and you will be able to find it under many different brand names. Most hardware stores should sell it too.
EDIT: Haha, or you could buy a new one as linked above

[Q] Replacing the housing

I am thinking about purchasing a complete housing package for my EVO and replacing it all(LCD/digitizer are clean, but housing is really beat up(cracked all the way through to the screws in some place). What dangers would come with doing all of this myself? Would I need a heat gun if I am not messing with the screens at all? I've looked through the teardown instructions and kind of just don't know at what point all of the housing is out.
Basically my question is this.
What tools would I need for JUST the housing?
and would there be any huge hardware damage risks in doing this?
I am planning on using this phone until the LTE phones roll out on Sprint and then going from there. So if there is much risk, I probably will just stick it out.

I watched a video of someone replacing the screen on a htc evo,he used a little hex screwdriver and an exacto knife, there was alot of ribbon wires and clasps to undo,it looked pretty complicated,if you're like me,you'll wait, lol.Heres a video.... http://youtu.be/tdSIVMQ-G08
It's probably not worth it the risks outweigh the rewards if everything is still okayy hardware wise id just invest in a good case would cover up your scratches and potentially stop more from happening I've had an otterbox since I got my EVO still looks pretty much new under the case

If you want to avoid having to use an exacto knife, risking that the lcd will break from removing from front housing, you could try to buy/order the front housing/lcd/digitizer fully assembled. Then you would only need the rear housing and battery cover. If you're are mechanically inclined, it's not that difficult.
Six T5 screws to remove the back housing, one screw holds the board to the front housing. Remove the bottom 2 flex ribbon cables.
