Hi,
Just got an AT&T Captivate Glide, and am planning to root the phone soon. However, before I do so, I'd like to get some sort of official confirmation that the 2.3.6 OTA update will actually get rid of the CarrierIQ that AT&T embedded into the stock 2.3.5 kernel. I know that once the phone is rooted, applying the 2.3.6 OTA update afterwards will not remove root (at least according to some posts here at XDA), so I am not concerned about that.
Nothing official that I've read online anywhere about the 2.3.6 OTA update specifically mentions that CarrierIQ is removed. Otherwise, I will apply the Rogers kernel which doesn't have CarrierIQ. Can someone please confirm that the 2.3.6 OTA update definitely removes CarrierIQ?
Thanks!
Pls. Search in the forum, before opening new threads.
There are several posts which have discussed these topics

This update is now mentioned on Samsung's website. It says it does the following:
Updates to support CMAS (mentioned earlier - disaster alert system)
Removes CIQ
Updates Android to 2.3.6
Fixes an Exchange remote wipe bug

Thank you for the links. However, those are the ones that I've already read a while ago. Those two pages have absolutely zero mention about CarrierIQ being removed by the 2.3.6 update. This is precisely why I started this thread...to get some sort of official confirmation from either AT&T or Samsung that this update does indeed remove CarrierIQ.
If anyone has any official information, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
Bump...anyone? I still can't find official confirmation anywhere that the 2.3.6 OTA update removes CarrierIQ.
I cant really answer your question, but someone know where to get the orginal zip file? signed for the android recovery 3e?
My Note 2 has been updated to 4.1.2 last month. And this morning it got another update from AT&T. After the update I checked the version number, it's still 4.1.2. Don't know what's going on. Anyone else has this experience? I played around and didn't notice any difference in appearance or performance.

I got one too but I'm running SkyNote so I'm not sure if I should accept either..
Latest OTA update from ATT is MA4. Updated kernel which includes a security patch for the exploit issue. In the past, you had to be completely stock to successfully take the update (stock rom/recovery).

I got it thanks. There's a mention on the other forum that this is a security patch for the chip.
Hello i just bought this phone and i know it is rooted. How to check what rom does it have.It asks me for a update ( im on 4.1.2) what version will it update me too? And will i lose root? All answers apreciated. Thx
Bro,this is the development section so you shouldn't have created a specific thread asking any question, the Q & A section is meant for that.
Anyway the answer your queries:
You can find the name of rom/android version in the 'about device' section of settings.
The update may be a maintenance update. Also the update depends on your region/country.As the latest official firmware for note 2 is 4.1.2 so it will remain that only.
Also you advised not to update a rooted phone,it may mess it up and you may lose root.It would be good if you stick with the current firmware or download the latest from XDA,flash it,then root it or find a prerooted one.

Just click on that...and it will load a page with Samsung agreements about software updating....and there will be a check box to tick that you agree....Once you tick it and proceed ..it'll look for updates...and itll say ..can't update because your device is modified...and nd that's it...The update icon won't appear on your status bar again. ..hope this helps
Hallo guys & gals, I wanted to ask you guys about monthly Security Patches as Google has made bound all the OEMs to release monthly security patches for their devices. In this regard most of the devices are getting monthly or at least once in a couple of months but my Honor-6x is not getting any OTA update since April 2017.
Do you guys have any idea or does any body have any Honor 6x with a more recent security update patch?

Honor 6X is getting updated to latest patches every month, currently it's in August Patch 2017...!!!

Every month lol. The best Joke i have read.
Well, it depends on the region, US models are rarely updated (unlike EU and Indian variants)
I saw in your signature that your phone model is BLN-21. Could you check if your build ends with B360? If yes, an update should come out soon but meanwhile you should be able to force it, by going on system update > tap on the 3 dots in the upper right corner > download latest update (if the option isn't there you cannot force it yet)
As you can see in these screenshots, in the 1st system update says that there aren't updates; in the 2nd, the option mentioned above is the first of the list, and finally in the 3rd i can download the update
Whoops i forgot the third screenshot, here it is
Well guys as you can see in my shared screen shot my device is on B361 of update level and the region is actual Pakistan which falls under middle east region. Now I actually created the thread to make it sure, whether my region is getting updates or not?
And thanks, @RedSkull23, I have tried your suggestion but as you see my device is already on B361.
I think my real problem is the update via firmware finder, and that's why my device isn't getting OTA updates. As the below screen shot reveals my device is on B361 but the security patch is 5 April 2017, and it is the time when this update was released and I updated my device through FF, since than I have tried a lot but I couldn't get any OTA update.

When I still had my 6x, the patch would come about 10-15 days after Google released it. Couldn't say it's timely, but it indeed come monthly.
Btw, I have a Chinese model 6x.
Monthly in China ? And others can go to hell ?
I had to push B365 after about 3 months after B360. Others don't get it at all.

Can you check or, do you remember if previous build number matches with the number of your actual build, or if not? If they doesn't match, maybe the FF update you did has moved you on a different build number, and so your software update won't find nothing because that's the latest package of your ACTUAL build, instead of the previous. Personally, i get confused every time that i finish to speak about FF updates because with all that packages stored and selectable, the number of possibilities that could provoke an issue are too much to be hold in mind at the same time
You are absolutely right FF has its very serious pros & cons. And yes, I think I remember the previous build number of my device, it was B360 and I did a full package download and dload upgrade on my device, and I also remember I was too much enthusiastic to find a sulotuion for the FM radio problem, yet in vain.

If update size is 200-300 mb then no, it will have the twrp recovery. Make sure you have stock recovery before trying OTA update

My phone just notified me of a software update. Anyone know where I can get the detail on what's in this release? I've been to the AT&T site but it still shows the December update as the latest:

It's just more security updates, nothing major.
