Installed Sprint LF9 on Rooted Phone. No Change? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Downloaded the STOCK update from the thread in the Sprint development section and flashed through ODIN. Phone still shows that I am on L710VPLEN and Titanium Backup still works even though ODIN reported the operation as successful.
Thoughts?

It'll have to be stock recovery for it to even download to the phone I'm pretty sure.
Only a few options I can think of.
Get a stock VLALE6 recovery and install it.
Flash the stock FW and then update.
Or just flash the updated stock FW.
Has it already downloaded the ota?
It should be in /cache/fota/ if it has. It'll be update.zip.
If it did, I can help you get it installed as is. Make a copy of the update.zip if you can btw.

If you want you can try using Mobile Odin. Download the LE6 FW and choose to install it in Mobile Odin. You can deselect everything but recovery and flash. Then you should be able to get the ota.
You could also pull recovery.img from the FW re-tar it and flash with pc odin.

Always good to have another resource, but two things real quick...
He can't use this FW. Its for the T999 but since he's on Videotron he will almost certainly have the model T999V.
It does not say what build either the FW or the Recovery are. I'm guessing they are both the original build UVALEM, but it really should specify.
Thanks anyway man.
@OP
If you do have the T999V like I suspect, use the links I gave you a couple posts up.

[Q] JB Update Fails.

So I was happy to read the Tmo GS3 finally getting JB and even happier when my phone pulled it.
However I cannot get it to install.
I'm full stock ROM. I did root via "debugfs-based Root for Galaxy S III"
The first time it failed I remembered I had programs frozen.
Unfroze them, still failed.
So I uninstalled my SuperUser app and told it to remove root.
Both Root Checker and Titanium Backup show no root access.
Update still fails.
Am I missing a step here? Or am I looking at resetting the phone to update it?
Are you updating via OTA or kies. Kies works after root. OTA not so much

OTA.
Going through the settings and telling to check (pull) the update.
Was unaware root broke that :\
I take it even though I'm not not rooted it does not matter.

Ugh, I cant stand kies, personally. Never use it. Imo there is a much better, safer, nore efficient method.
You are rooted so im assuming you want to stay that way correct?
Go to the firmware thread in my sig and towards the top of the op you will see a section called root66.
Download the latest root66 firmware. Extract the file using 7zip, it should be a .tar.md5 file.
You will use Odin to flash this. If you arennt familiar with Odin, go to the 2nd post to download the latest vrrsion, 3.07. Below that you will find instructions for many different methods, find the flash in Odin one and follow the steps.
The root66 firmware is identical to the stock released by T-Mobile, except it comes pre-rooted, so you wont have to worry bout it after!
Good luck whichever way you go!

Op of that thread will tell you to do exactly what I just did a post or so ago. Just sayin that you should update your firmware before flashing custom roms.
Not required, but recommended for running the jb roms. Otherwise you dont get the full update.
Firmware via odin will update 10 partitions, custom roms only 2-3 on average.

Tried with my laptop, still failed.
For whatever reason, stock rooted then unrooted ROM did not want to be updated either way.
Ended up going with the root66 JB option and ODIN.
Honestly was trying to avoid it, but it was really no hassle and the deed has been done.
Now to get back to restoring everything.

Been searching for last hour or two and this is only thread I've found this specific topic. Just got S4 today coming from a GNex so somethings are new to me.
Is there a detailed instructions somewhere on how to do this?

Install Kies. Under Tools setting, select recovery and put your phone to download mode. Let Kies do the rest.

No. Kies would wipe it off during recovery process and install the latest firmware.

lol I've searched around too, but made my own conclusions. ahha
Not attempting to promote any particular roms but Wicked v2 is running mdl update with the mdb modem and radio and smoother than silk on s4, Revolt requires manualy updating with setuidremoval but has a great writeup how to do so as does Infamous S4, I personally can confirm Revolt and Wicked are working flawless as long as the minimal theming currently in both is fine with you.

Update With Root?

My friend has a t mobile galaxy s3. He hasn't touched the build.prop or anything. If I put him on stock recovery, can he take the t mobile update?
Is there an app that can keep his root? He is on 4.1.1.
The only thing he messed with is root so he can do certain things.

If device status in the about phone menu says Modified, then it will not get an ota update (I assume thats what you are trying to do?).
Why not just flash the latest firmware uusing Odin? Better than an ota imo.

By flashing a stock rooted rom in recovery you are only flashing the system partition.
To get the full update you have to flash the firmware in Odin. This way you get the updated bootloader, modem, and 4 other partition updates.

Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Yes, but also, if you go the Odin route, its just a single flash, plus if using root66 it doesnt make the device status modified.
The additional partitions included in a firmware package are:
Aboot
Boot
Cache
Modem
Recovery
Rpm
Sbl1
Sbl2
Tz
I believe flashing the firmware package you mentioned does flash all of them, but the only reason I can see to use it is if you want the updates, but do not want to flash /system.
Otherwise, imo, you're better off using Odin to flash the root66 package.

I was just mentioning the flashable zips because it sounds like his friend wanted to keep root and to simply update the phone.
Also, just flashing one of the already rooted 4.1.2 ROMs will not flash the latest radio (which has been causing problems such as slower data speeds and a weaker signal).

Right, I know. The ota update includes more than a rom does though, so I just mentioned it in case he didn't know
As for the radio/modem, data speed and signal strength will vary, mostly depending on location. I wouldnt say there have been problems with it though. Itll be better for some and worse for others. The only way for each person to know is for them to try it. And if you want the best modem, you unfortunately have to just test them all out. (The map in my thread is there to help with this though. You should check it out if you haven't already.)

As long as it's 100% stock, not rooted, device status = normal, and all firmware matches (kernel, baseband, sbl's, tz, rpm), then yes you can get the OTA.
If status is normal, but anything else isn't right, it can try the OTA but it will fail.
I'm just curious though, why go through all that trouble just to get updated via ota? There are easier ways such as flashing firmware via Odin. Or if you really just want to try the OTA, you can download it from my firmware thread.

I currently have the T-Mobile version with the 4.1.1 stock rom with a modified framework and root but stock recovery as well.
