I am not quite sure how to receive commands back from the modem yet. I found several references to Qualcomm AT Commands online but I didn't see anything that would just unlock the modem.

I think you are talking about the i9300. The AT&T (can someone confirm this?) and T-Mobile versions don't have an nv_data.bin file to work from.
I'm talking about the i747
i747 can unlock using the same way as the i727 and i717
I'm using dongle, and the way to unlock is the same.

I did mine i727 with nspro
I know the boxes can do it. I am guessing they just send commands to dump the NVM from the modem.... modify it.... and write it. I am just wondering if a rooted phone can send the same commands to something in the /dev/ list.
Im moving this to the General forum until there is any kind of development accomplished.
Mark.
hope goes well...
I added information to the OP.
I'll give it a shot tomorrow and see if I can come up with anything. I might not be able to do anything but its worth a shot.
Progress?
Have you made any progress on this by chance? I have an AT&T locked i717 (Galaxy Note) that appears to have the same setup as the siii.

So, question for those more knowledgable than myself.
Would I now be able to just flash one of the N7100 ROMs, flash the Rogers radio, and the Perseus kernel and have a fully functioning Rogers i317M?
Am I missing something? I'm probably missing something right.
And I don't care if I temporarily lose LTE. I couldn't give a crap about LTE.

Andromadus version 1352932530

from : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970809
If you are looking for an FM radio, do not flash one of those
if you are looking to change your cellular radio in hope of improved reception or battery life you will not find someone to tell you which one, you will need to try and see what works for you. I will suggest starting with the latest then moving on if nothing improves.
Again, not FM! If you want FM radio go to market and download spirit or something

Not listen music that need internet access.
When i flash rom 4.1.2 i lost my fm app so i need one.
So i have to try 19 radio ?
Nope, you can cause harm flashing firmware. There is a major difference between cellular radio and FM radio. Do not flash anything firmware that is unneeded for there is always the possibility of causing harm.
Go into the play store (android market) and search for FM radio there, sport radio seems good for many but test some out and see what you like. Again do not flash firmware, download from market

Just wondering, my radio for the most part works fine. Having some WiFi connectivity issues here and there (connection drops lots of packets after a while and it's better to revert to 3G) but that could be rom-based as it's a recent thing. Other issue is the phone takes far longer than my old N1 to pick up signal again after being underground (often have to switch on/off airplane mode) and this has been this way since day 1
In any case, they are minor issues, but I hear that updating radios can really unlock a lot of the phones data speed and battery potential.
So the question is how do I go about it? Is it just a matter of flashing the latest radio? Right now I have baseband XXLF1 (out of the box) and I've been looking at this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34045210 as the latest version, how do I know if it's compatible with my particular device?
Moreover, all of these basebands seem to have CWM flash capability, what about TWRP?

I'm on WIND mobile in Canada, same spectrum as T-mobile US. If the phone is already on XXLF1, is it safe to say it will be alright with XXLH1? Aren't they both for the same devices?
Moreover, if something goes wrong with the flash (incompatible model or so) is there any recourse?

Hi OP, if you purchased your unit in canada, it is a GSM version.
XXLH1 will work, it will work on WIND mobile for sure (I am on wind too
Also the zip files will work, all TWRP and CWM are basically the same, AFAIK, all flashable zip are compatible with TWRP and CWM.
If you are unsure about which radio to flash, i would simply suggest you to make a backup, and flash the original image from google, which contains the latest radio for your device.
All images can be obtained from here: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
Go ahead and flash Takju/Yakju, it doesnt make any difference in canada as google wallet doesnt even work here. I am on Yakju, lol.

No it depends on your radio, not the version.
Like it says, at least this version, it doesn't say only this version.
Try it, if not just flash an earlier radio for your carrier, and then flash back if you like

Unlocking a Rogers Note 2 doesn't mean it will work on Wind Mobile. You will need to unlock AWS band (after you unlocked the phone). I'm actually surprised that no one mentioned this thread as it's been around for at least 8 months now.
Use the thread to unlock your Note 2 to work with Wind or Mobicity.
Thats exactly what is happening. ..it looks unlcoked but not working on wind I already tested a wind sim...would you please guid me to the link that does this aws band unlock for my note 2...

Does it have LTE?
But since the model number differs so much from the other S4 minis, i am not sure, if you can just use the "regular" Root-kit. Of course you can give it a go.

Yes it has LTE
when you guys say root kit you mean "S4mini_RootKit_v1" right? what about the recovery-clockwork-6.0.3.7-serrano3gxx.tar file? is this file specific to GT-I9190?
Wait wait wait, so there's a _different_ variant of the S4 Mini?
Koodo (the Telus subsidiary) just got this phone in the other day and I was about to swap my slow-as-molasses Galaxy Ace 2x for the thing, but am a lot more hesitant if I can't load Cyanogenmod onto it.
The few links I've found on the the model SGH-I257M say that it may be a Bell phone, due to the M at the end... but the S4 Mini listed on the Bell site has the same specs as the GT-19195/0 LTE.
Do the telecoms really sell radically different versions of different phones under the same name?
EDIT: Just confirmed with Koodo that their model is indeed the SGH-I257M.

Yes, this "S4mini_RootKit_v1" is what we are talking about. But be warned, this may not work for you.

Wouldnt it be illegal to sell it under a different name then it really is? Besides that, i only know of the Nexus devices, which are also split up into different carriers, but they've got the same hardware afaik.

So your I257M works with the 9195 roms? Is there any changes or differences of running the 9195 rom on the 257M?
Yes it works with 9195 roms. I don't really like touchwiz and I find the battery life better on cm10.2 than stock.

Awesome. Touchwiz can be solved with a different launcher but at least we know what roms we can use

I257M BELL... root... FM Radio, LTE?
Hello,
I've got Bell version of S4... I257M. What exact root method should I use? CWM?
Does I257M have FM Radio or not? It is sure not visible in apps menu. If I257M has same hardware (except 16GB of memory) as international version does it mean that FM Radio in Canadian version is not visible simply because Bell wanted customers to use Data plans + Internet radio + intentionally removed FM Radio app?
Can I flash [FIRMWARE][ROOT][ODIN] Prerooted FW SGSIV mini I9195 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2375527 and get FM Radio? Will LTE work, I am on Fido network?
Thank you very much!
Use the i9195, they work with the i257M. I257M doesnt have the radio hardware in so fm radio won't work and if you flash a I9195 rom, it will show the phone being a I9195 in the model number under Settings, and you will lose some features such as the smart gestures the the I257M comes with.

Thank you for a quick reply, Omega2513. If there is no FM Radio hardware there is no point to flash I9195 rom as current stock rom suites me just fine. I just want to root + debloat + use apps that require root. What root + CWM version should I use?
Also, where can I get a stock Bell ROM for I257M in case I need to roll back to untouched stock rom? I can not find it anywhere.
Thank you!
The recovery and root I used was http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2364980 and it was easy to use, but any root for the I9195 will work. After rooting, you can go to ROM Mangers website and get the latest CWM from there. As for a stock Bell ROM, sadly I forgot to copy mine before I flashed so I don't know where one can be found. Since this is a newer model of the mini, it may be a while before someone uploads theirs
