I used to charge the battery with USB but lately, I've tried with AC adapter. Then, I started having lag.
Is it better to use USB? Is there any harm in charging directly from electrical outlet?
or just use one method to charge? Cos I sometimes use both alternatively..
I don't think the lag you felt was caused by the different charging methods.
Both methods are completely safe and you can use them interchangeably.

Hi all,
During my recent trip to India, my arc's charger got fried during a power surge (EP800, output = 850mA). i went looking for a replacement but I only found the CST-80, output = 700mA but this makes my arc's screen go wonky. [The screen becomes totally unresponsive; the screen jumps; it unlocks by itself; screen powers on even if I switch it off by using the power button].
I'm currently using my laptop's USB port to charge my arc but as you all know, it takes longer to charge.
With my usage, the battery is exhausted by night. (I don't get the fantastic battery life that many claim).
My question is whether I can use chargers from different companies (with different outputs)? For example, the Nokia charger has an output of 1000mA; the Blackberry charger has an output of 1200mA. Even USB adapters (eg: Capdase) have an output higher than 850mA of the GreenHeart charger I received with my phone (EP800).
I would like to know if there's any harm in using one of these chargers? Can it harm my battery and in turn, my phone?
I hate to bump up the thread but I would really like some feedback on using Nokia & Blackberry chargers on the arc.
Can it harm my battery or phone in any way?
Just asking as I'm pretty sure that most of you would have at least one of the chargers.
Any and all feedback is appreciated.

I've used wall chargers from a variety of companies with varied outputs from 500mAh to 1,000mAh as well as the "Super Charger" USB ports on both Asus and MSI motherboards that have double the standard USB wattage (1,000mAh) without issue. Sony's own car charger, the AN-300, which I use daily is 700mAh.
The charging circuits in the phone should automatically regulate and stop it from charging when it's full. Charging shouldn't affect the phone's operating unless you're using an overvolt kernel or other CPU modification such as SetCPU.

I've used a LG Pop charger (700mA) for 20 hours in total at least, and my phone was perfectly normal charging, only the charger made some annoying noise (not very loud and not continious), but both weren't damaged in any way.
I think that lower Amps won't do any harm, for higher Amps I don't dare to make a guess.
I use a htc wall charger for my neo and my arc, it is 1000 mah, no problems up to now, the only thing mAh does it influences the charging time

I appreciate the replies guys. I think I can safely go and buy a higher mA charger.
I was mainly worried about leaving it to charge over-night (as that's what I normally tend to do).
i lose my charger too, and with other charger my screen get funny, the tactil gestures work wrong, theres is a problem with my arc?
Anyone else notice that our Nitro is rather fickle about the power source it receives?
If my battery is completely drained, it MUST be plugged into a higher power source than USB (so far a wall charger that ouputs 750ma works) until it gets an initial charge (usually needs at least a couple of %)...Then it will accept charging from USB (USB provides 500ma).
I can tell when it's in this "state" because it remains dead if I plug it into USB and then if I plug it into a wall charger the touch buttons at the bottom flash for a few times and then the LG logo pops up and finally a charging battery icon comes on. Considering this sequence, this seems like a functionality of the phone. I wonder if this is common, my Nexus One certainly didn't have a higher-initial charge rate requirement when the battery was dead.
I've experienceed the same scenario.

I only have chargers that operate 1.8amps and higher.
As the battery is an issue the higher the amps the faster it will charge

Well I did notice that if it was on usb...and I had bluetooth...gps, and wifi...plus running some apps and stuff...the battery actually continued to drain I think they have the usb thing as a safety measure...for some reason...I think it's odd...but meh
try a usb cable that has 2 jacks plugs to connect to tyhe computer. These cables are often supplied with external hard drives as they they require more power than can be supplied by just one usb connection.
I was also having the problem of my p-930 discharging while plugged into compute usb jack - even when screen off nad only in charge mode. I have since bought a dual plugged usb cable and it charges now. Although I haven't tried it from a completely discharged state.
my spectrum is the same way.. i can charge it with usb.. but it takes about 15-20 minutes to get enough charge to turn on

This! I only charge with a wall adapter now. I had a hard time charging it until someone here recommended this to me.
Something seems to be wrong with my charging port, lately its been charging at a slower rate and at times when I use my phone while charging, the percentage actually drops. I am using the standard OEM charger and also once in awhile it wouldn't charge and I would either have to fiddle with the plug or restart my phone. Anyone know what the issue is?

Some basic stuff, just to eliminate the usual suspects before going any further:
1. Have you tried another USB cable?
2. Have you tried another charger?
3. Have you tried another USB cable AND another charger?
Of course, it may indeed be a problem with the port on the phone. But in my experience, USB cable is the most typical reason for weird things going on with charging, as well as data transfer...

Yes, I've probably tried over 5 different usb cables and chargers from friends and around my house, still the same problem. I'm thinking it may be the port.
So far, in the past months or so, my phone started acting up with the charging, then my battery died and could not power up my phone unless charged, replace the battery, charging issue was still there and now recently charging slower plus my microphone is dead. I wonder if how hard would it be to replace to port. Trying to prolong this phone until Z4 is out.
As asked in the title. Does it matter what charger you use? Can I use a 1A charger or does it need to be 2A? My phone has been rebooting and overheating I think it's only on a certain 1A charger. I applied the thermal mod and it was fine until i was charging it up with said charger. Is it just coincidence?
What I have experienced with mine is that, it does matter what charger you use. When you use a different charger it might seem okay for some time, but overtime you will start to see the effects.
Any way to disable rapid charging?
I have a generic USB extender and used it to extend my charger cable by a couple of feet. When the phone showed "full charge in 5 hours" I realized it's making the charge speed extremely slow. The USB cable is a regular sized USB male on one end while the other end is a regular sized USB female. You could use that to slow down your charging to about the speed you'd get by charging from a USB 2.0 connector on any PC/laptop.
One the same note will using a standard charger from other cell phones (that I have like 300 of) and the cable that came with phone cause any problems or just charge slow. I travel a lot and have several USB devices I bring and don't want to bring multiple chargers if I don't need to.
Thanks.
It will just charge slow.

You need a compatible charger for it to fast charge. Using a regular charger wouldn't put it in that mode. I wanted to know if there was an option to turn it off with a compatible charger.
Why do you want to turn it off.
I could swear I saw something in the framework to disable fast charging but I'm not 100% sure.
I'll try to remember to keep an eye out for it after the December updates drop from Google and I have to redo my framework mods.
As far as options in the GUI go, I don't recall ever seeing any option to disable fast charging.
To answer another question, someone may want to disable fast charging to ensure their battery lasts longer (short term + long term). Or to prevent overheating when charging in the sun. And other reasons too.
You could always buy a MicroUSB to USB-C adapter. Or the phone may have come with one too now that I think about it.
Then use an older MicroUSB charger to charge your phone.
Charging via computer is only like 500mAH compared vs. 2000+mAH charging from the stock charger.
Count me amongst the club who would prefer to slow-charge my phone overnight at least.
And possibly slow my car charger down to maybe just 1000mAH to prevent overheating while the phone is docked underneath my windshield under the hot sun.
