Hi guys,
hope I can post this here. Part of android development but if not please move
I'm using a ROM that has sense in at the moment. The issue is that I can connect to my Access Point but I can't browse the internet. This was also the issue on my Stock ROM.
I then tested a senseless ROM and the wifi works 100% (wifi also works on several other devices. My HTC does work when I connect it to the router itself and not a access point.)
So this comes then down to software. I did read a bit and looks like it might be fix-able by changing the kernel a bit. Is it possible to take the "wifi" part of the senseless kernel and put it in the Sense kernel
What is the error?
You can change roms, you can change kernels, but if you just want wifi working it would be best to debug it with the stock kernel in case you get stuck later...
Do this: Dial *#*#4636#*#* -> Phone information -> Run ping test. Then post the results.

With any rom, including the Stock rom, I can connect to my access point but then I can't browse using my phone. My laptop, blackberry and HTC Sensation works 100% with the same connection.
When I flash my HTC One X rom with a AOSP (think it's that. The rom without sense) then my wifi connects and I can browse.
I installed terminal emulator and I can ping other devices on the network including the access point but not the router.
I did dial *#*#4636#*#* and Run Ping Test.
Ping IpAddr: Fail: IP Addr not reachable

Whenever I use a custom aosp kernel besides cm stock kernel I am unable to connect to my home's hidden network. I cam connect to protected, but not hidden. This happens on salvage-zen, zendroid, & salvage. However, once when i was using salvage 1.3 it automatically connected to the hidden network I had tried before. I have no clue what the problem is. Any ideas?
Probably something is missing from that custom kernel. Just revert back and try something different.
Using my HTC Evo phone which I'm using Xda app to post
Maybe let the kernel developers know.
K i'll alert the salvage-zen team
Moved from Development section and added more information.
I have a Desire with customized Rom with Data2Ext. I can connect my WiFi. But when I go to somewhere (let's the WiFi disconnect) and come back, my Desire can connect to WiFi without any problem but I can't access my network.
More information is as below:
1. from my pc, I can't ping to my phone.
2. the configuration seems good in my phone(busybox ifconfig).
3. from phone, can't ping to the net gate.
Andriod 2.2
Baseband: 32.54.00.32U_5.14.05.17
Kernel: 2.6.32.15
Internal Version: 2.29.405.5
I tried to shutdown the network interface and to bring it up again to see if some issue happens during starting up. But I couldn't shutdown that interface.
Everything is ok if I turned off my WiFi and turned on again.
Looks like some settings were not reseted when connection was back.
Anybody can help me in this case?
Try a diffrent rom. One without D2EXT etc. Use a almost stock i.e. Leedroid.
So you can be sure that its not about your hardware.

Actually, this version is a almost stock ROM. Maybe it's something related to router definition.
I will try another router to see if the problem still exists.
does your phone acquire an address from the router? could be a lease-time issue, or DHCP issue

For the 1st question, my answer is yes. I could see the address and I also could see the route via terminal. But from my phone, I could not able ping to the network gate.
Lease-time issue, it could be. Don't know, how to confirm that?
DHCP issue, seems not.
Now i know theres hundreds of threads about 3G problems and im hoping this one doesnt get over looked . I recently in stalled two custom roms on my evo ( cyanogen 7.0.0 , and miui 1.1.25 ) wiped chaches factory resets etc. on first installations but for some reason my 3G is not being recognized or even showing up when i am using the custom roms. The only way i can use 3G is when i restore my phone back to my stock rom..... can anyone help me fixing the issue ....please. if i can get my 3G up and working while im running my custom roms it will make everything so much easier, instead of having to restore my stock rom when ever i want to do anything on my phone outside a wireless network
oh and kernals etc. are stocks that came with the roms.no customization has been done to the roms themselves.
has nothing to do with the kernels
you have to get msl reader and set your 3g up i think there is a thread in the developer section on it...let me see if i can find it
OK HERE IS THE FIX,
PHONE MUST BE ROOTED
PHONE MUST HAVE SENSE ROM ON IT TO FIX THE PROBLEM
download msl reader from market,
open msl reader,
write down msl code
open dialer
dial ##3282#
when asked for code or password enter the msl code you wrote down
select edit mode
select EVDO
select preferred mode,
set to automatic.
save exit reboot,
load rom of choice
and VIOLA YOU HAVE 3G
CHEERS AND GOOD LUCK
Well for CM7, are you sure you data is enabled? Sometimes tis off when you boot the rom. You can check in mobile data under wifi settings.
while that is true roxxors, since the OP stated two different roms giving him trouble and not having trouble with original load, the problem lies in how the roms read 3g...we all know that sprint roms LIE about 3g...and cyanogen actually reads actual signal...however until that EVDO change is done his phone will never get 3g on any of the cyanogen or miui or even aosp roms....
hi guys, go easy on me its my first post
love the website the guides have helped me to successfully downgrade, s-off and flash custom roms to my dhd
I searched for the answer to this question but couldnt find anything. Is there any plan for custom rom developers to fix the 2.3.3 rom wifi compatability problems with speedtouch modems, as this is the only reason i cant use 2.3.3 based roms? (a lot of people have this problem with the stock rom but it is also in leedroids new one, android rev. etc) Would like to ask this in the android dev section but i need 10 posts for that.
Thanks for the help you lot have already given me, and i love the video!
Steve
Hi, welcome and congrats on your first post.
What specifically is the problem with the wifi? Is it specific to a type of authorisation (WEP, WPA/2) issue or something else?
thanks
this is a link to a detailed description of this exact problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1063103.html
i really dont expect anyone to go through the hassle of reading this, so summarized it says that ever since the gingerbread 2.3.3 update the phone is capable of connecting to all modems, but cannot transfer data on certain ones (such as the speedtouch modems)
I found a good post on this in a german forum a couple of weeks ago but i cant find it now, (i'll keep looking) but it said the problem was that some modems transmit with n and some with b or something like that. and that the only answer was to wait (ages) for a stock rom update (2.3.4?) as 2.3.3 isn't compatible with these types of modems
i would have expected this had been solved in the custom roms though
this is a qoute from the link below
"It turns out the Be Box router which Be supplied, which is a THOMSON ST585v6, is not compatible but also other versions of THOMSON routers as well."
ptth://vvv.htcdesirehdforum.com/htc-desire-hd-troubleshooting/wifi-issue-with-gingerbread-update/ (change the ptth to http and vvv to www) i cant post outside links
Ok, just read through that thread. What model of Speedtouch router are you using?
One workaround is to use a static IP. Have you tried this? I can help you set this up if required.
HTC seem to blame this issue on Google, as an Android issue. Not sure about that as any ROM that uses Gingerbread would exhibit the same problem, which isn't the case.
modem is a Thompson Speedtouch ST585 v6
Thanks but i have already tried and the modem only works with dynamic IPs (tried to solve it with a static IP for ages with my dad but it didnt work xD)
This qoute from dioky on page 4 of the link below states (i'm pretty certain) the problem: (i clicked the thanks button for this answer)
"Hi there,
I have the same WiFi problems as all of you.
Furthermore I can confirm that changing ROM (ARHD or Leedroid) won't help, if you stay with Gingerbread versions, that is.
I found out that:
* Data won't flow (although connected fine) to SpeedTouch WiFi access point (b/g).
* Data won't flow (although connected fine) through D-Link DAP1360 .
* BUT: does flow (and connected fine off course) through Belkin G Plus MIMO access point (g)!
I have rechecked it by reflashing back to ARHD 3.7 returning to ARHD 5.1.7 and ARHD 5.1.4 and LeeDroiD 3.0.3.
Which in all, makes me conclude that there definitely is something on the software side concerning compatibility!
For now, I will return to ARHD 3.7 Android 2.2.1 until solution is found.
Regards,"

Does anybody know if the Rom devs.plan to solve this (or even know about this problem)?
any ideas peeps?? this is a major problem for me
You want to try giving a static IP another shot?
i'm pretty sure it wont work as i tried to solve the prob like this but whatever i did i couldnt get it to work. but i'll give it another shot. another idea would maybe be updating the modem drivers if there is such a thing?
What is your routers current firmware version? And is that a branded router?
i really have no idea. i'm a total noob with routers
can you tell me an easy way how i could find out?
Sure, are you using your PC to access the web at the minute?
If you install TeamViewer I could show you.
?????? What is that ?
Its a piece of software that will allow me to remotely control a computer.
I can confirm that I have this problem with 2.3.3 and my Thomson/SpeedTouch 585v6 (FW 6.1.4.3) too.
It seems to connect WiFi fine, even assigns an IP but nothing actually works.
Solution for Wifi problem 2.3.3
Hello!
I have the same problem on my DHD with 2.3.3
Before there is an permanent fix for this You could manually configure the IP adress in the phones Wifi and it works great.
You can not use the DHCP in the phone.

I should have mentioned that I actually have a HTC Desire (not HD). But the ROM is a 2.3.3. It actually assigns the IP via DHCP just fine.
I have already tried manually assigning the IP address (and other fields) but still no luck.
There are those who can connect with a manual IP and a few, even after assigning it manually, still can not connect.
i tried using a static IP but it doesnt work..tried for days now
sounds like i am one of the few it doesnt work for after assigning manually...
i am a total noob but i was wondering if it would be possible for a custom rom dev to take the wifi drivers from froyo and use them in a gingerbread based rom??
UPDATE
I called up my ISP requesting a newer firmware for the 585v6 router (although I know it is no longer supported). Anyway, without any hassle at all, they gave me the newer: TG585 v7 router with firmware 8.2.23.0 (pre-installed).
This connects without any problems to my 2.3.3 ROM (RCMix 2.0).
Hey guys,
I tried searching and could not find a similar problem.
Since getting the new rom I have noticed that my wireless router has been experiencing connection issues. all my devices show connectivity but i dont have access to the net. Anyways i decided to have a look and the android is creating multiple Ip entries on the router with the same mac address and everytime I turn the wifi off on my phone the problem does not occur.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Have you tried going into development settings and turning of Android Debugging or ADB over network? Just a suggestion, not sure if it will work.

nah cant be that, I had them turned off already.
Thanks for replying anyway. I searched google and its a pretty common problem with no concrete solution, might need to flash the rom again.

Why don't you try binding the MAC Address to a static IP so it's no longer able to create multiple entries on the DHCP Table?
tjturko13 - have you tested to use another standard 802.11 Modus - instead "n"? Just switch it at your phone or router.
What router do you have? Can you update the firmware? ^^

i dont think my router allows this, the only option I have is to specify if I want to allow mac filtering.
Have checked out my last post about the wlan-standard?
I found also another thread about a member with wifi problems after updating his rom. He didnt flash the new boot.img - but dont know if it was the solution.

thanks ill check out that thread,
at the moment my router is set to just g
its a isp provided cablel router that does not let me mess around with FW but i have checked and it seems to have the latest FW
where do i get the boot.img file from?
Did you get your new rom over the air? (Stock rom)
Or did you flash a custom rom?
You have to give us more software informations about your rom. Is your device s-on or s-off?
Stock rom you need the right RUU exe file. Just doubleclick - yes yes yes
Custom rom you need to download the custom boot.img.

There is an update available. I saw another post of an user with wifi-problems. He flashed the update and the problems were solved.
I've also noticed, that the wifi might have some problems with some channels as you can see here:
Broken:
bluetooth - works in beta 7. Broken in beta 8 +
Working:
Wifi Tethering
camera - not perfect still buggy
Mic
accelerometer
audio
bluetooth
wifi - may not support some channels
hw acceleration
buttons
lights
gps
gsm
lots more

I'm sorry for you.
- You could even try to change the wifi-channel to 1, 4 or 6 and disable wifi-security in the second attempt for test only.
- Try also to set a static ip in your phone (for your wlan).
- If you are bored you can reset the whole router to its factory defaults and leave all standard. Just enable wlan (and the isp connection) - but dont change the default ssid, wlan-security or channel etc.
Otherwise I have no more ideas.
With google you can find dozens of users crashing their routers with android or ios phones . Good luck dude!

Ive had this problem to since switching to 'randomblame's kernel based ROMS (jellytime CM, jellytime aokp and jellytime by PACMAN - Paranoid, CM and AOKP).
Apparently it is a kernel issue and the only thing you can do is some of the things above or here
I was here hoping there might be a fix... I tried static IP, changing the router channel, WIFI never sleep etc etc etc.
The only workaround I found so far was to turn off wifi when Im done, it only seems to break when the phone is inactive for 5 minutes +.

Exact same problem here. It took some time before I figured out that my phone was overwriting my gateway's MAC address, but I finally saw that message from another machine in my network:
Code:
arp info overwritten for 192.168.1.254 by 91:31:58:5d:e8:34
1.254 being my gateway's IP. I also tried giving my phone a static DHCP entry but it just didn't change anything. Any useful sysctl maybe ?
FWIW, it seems I "fixed" that issue by making my routers MAC address association permanent on my (manageable) switch. That obviously don't fix the real problem, but does not shut down the router's NIC. FYI, on a GNU/Linux machine, this is done with the arp command, i.e.:
Code:
# arp -s 192.168.1.254 00:ca:fe:ba:be:00
192.168.1.254 being your router's IP
