[Q] Let's fix the tonal balance of our display!! - Samsung Captivate Glide

Since when I got the Captivate Glide, I have noticed that the screen color isn't simply saturated, but its Amoled tend to a green tonality. Today, while browsing Voodoo Project's website, I discovered that not only the problem is common to all the Samsung Super Amoled devices, but, furthermore, they have been working out a solution for the Samsung Galaxy S and its siblings. Now, I am not sure if that exact mod can be ported on our Glide, and how to patch the kernel with it. I am trying to get in touch with the main developer (mostly to ask him about Voodoo Sound and how to mod the kernel)... Anyway, are you guys aware of any other effective methods to fix the colour balance of our telephone?
Cheers,
Tony

Use voodoo color... should be able to

Vibration and Sound

Hey guys
What a great phone and good looking development is happening, but one problem compared to my old San Francisco, The vibration isn't as "vibing" as it but i've used apps that use vibration and it can vibrate quite alot, any way of changing the vibration level? also Like others Sound on calls is very low, any fix yet?
Any ideas?
Thanks
Jamie
I don't know the answer.....
but as a former Blade/OSF owner, I am interested to know how you rate this device by comparison....
Wasn't the Blade just so easy to customize? and, with a load of Custom ROM's, so easy to upgrade, etc.
Sent from my GT-I8150 using Tapatalk
The Blade was quite easy to customize and yeah it was all easy to use and upgrade, but mine had some issues with it before I got my Samsung W rendering the SF useless :/
But Im amazed my how quick development for the W has come along, and I think the W is better than the blade but my only wish if for more RAM in the Samsung W

Playstore Galaxy Nexus - Thoughts after 1 week!

I am just listing down a few thoughts for prospective Galaxy Nexus buyers, its not a review but my finding on what the Galaxy Nexus does well and what it doesnt!
I am confident that most of you have read every online review of the Galaxy Nexus by now - starting from http://www.theverge.com/2011/11/17/2568348/galaxy-nexus-review
So I will try to make it short and based on my personal experience. Mostly it will be compared to iOS/iPhone 4 as it is the viable competitor in the market and what people most definitely want to know about!
Just to give a brief about myself: I work as a Communications Specialist for a global logistics company (one of the top 3). My first phone was a Nokia 3310 - from there I have used mostly all the milestone mobile phones released imo (Including, SE T610/S700i/W900 - most of the N-series, Complete iPhone lineup, Compete Nexus lineup) I had to mention these just to ensure my credibility
So here goes:
Screen
The Good
Pentile vs. RGB - I am quite picky about this - I hated all Pentile iterations of screens till now - Yes the 720p resolution is sooo packed that you will not notice the pixels - it is as good as Retina. Colors are beautiful, vibrant and bright. So if you thought that you will miss your sharp retina display moving to Galaxy Nexus, its not the case.
The Size: if you are 6 feet and taller - this is a perfect phone for you.
The Bad
1. Grains on darker shades, I do not agree with most here who say grains exists in low brightness. I feel grains are there, its a default fault of the screen, you cannot get out of this, it gives a light textured look in darker color images (grey/blue) no matter the brightness. If you have a white background (as with websites) - grains are not visible if you increase the brightness to midway and above. If you are coming from an iPhone 4/4s, you will be impacted as I was - but I lived with it for the phone offers much better options than the iPhone 4 for me. I would also not categorize the graininess as a major issue on a daily usage, unless you are extremely picky but just knowing is still a pain.
2. Color tone was slightly off at default - to the more warmer tone
I had to root my phone only for fixing this issue - I installed franco's kernel and changed the color tone (using his update tool from market) to a slightly more cooler blue. Thanks Franco!
Speakers/Voice/Call Clarity: This is a "Phone", right?
The Good
Clear sound, beats iPhone in my opinion and is louder for the internal speakers.
The Bad
External speakers are not loud by default. There is an easy software solution though, installing Volume+. Volume+ really made the external speakers loud, even louder than the iPhone's I would say.
OS
The Good
Fantastic. Android is alot smarter now with ICS, it is faster - near blazing. One should realize, installing a thousand widgets and themes does not help the cause - my feedback is based on rooted/stock (w/franco kernel). if you play around and install various Roms here, you most definitely will complain regarding compatibility issues, over all snappiness and performance. I suggest dont do it unless you have nothing better to do all day! App switching between multiple apps is brilliant - swiping away or moving to the next is made so simple. Brilliant work hiring the webOS guys, Google!
Moving from iOS - Do not be fooled by people saying its not smooth as iOS. For me Speed is more important than smoothness and ICS is definitely FASTER than iOS. Its like, closing a window in MAC/Windows, you can either take 2 seconds to close it with a nice animation or in 1 sec, it just closes within blinking of an eye. ICS is sharp and quick. Now it might not do the animations/transitions in a SEXY WAY (so cool APPLE) - and you might feel lags while swiping between home screens (personally I havnt, yet), but you do not have to wait at any given time. I remember switching between apps/phones/contacts in my iPhone requires a slight wait - though smooth transition, in ICS that wait does not exist. You will enjoy the experience. eg. The ICS Music app is smoother at viewing album covers than the laggy coverflow implementation in iOS.
The Bad
The only small gripe I have is with the Phone app! It has improved significantly from gingerbread with the whole swiping from the Dialer to Recent Calls and Contacts/Frequent Calls. "Favorites" are setup in such a way that they take up a large portion of the screen realestate (for what good reasons ?:S) and all the contacts follow after them.
Browser
The Best
The best browsing experience on a mobile device I had in this generation of devices. The screen size is a major player, previously on my iPhones, I would just browse if I was in a desperate situation such as finding a review, text being so tiny - but with the Galaxy Nexus, you feel like browsing the net when you have time in hand.
The Browser itself is much better than Mobile Safari in every way (performance/tab switching). You will love the experience moving from iOS!
Apps
I was never a heavy user of apps, so I will not compare iOS and Android eco-systems as such. There is no doubt iOS has more sexier looking apps/more polished but android is catching up. If you are coming from iOS and a heavy app user - this might not be the most convenient move for you, my personal suggestion would be for you to wait till iPhone 5 is released please. No TheGood/TheBad here!
Battery
The Bad
Unfortunately, there is no TheGood section here, obviously the battery google/samsung have placed in here is not adequate for a device with such a large screen. You can at max survive a day (using facebook/browsing/gmail/twitter). I am not sure how long it will survive with locations/geo tracking on though. 1 day is good enough for me, so not sure about you. I keep my screen brightness to 65% bright. The battery life on the iPhone 4 is relatively the same.
Camera
The Good
It takes really quick shots.
The Bad
The image quality is not upto par with the iPhone 4, let alone 4s!
File Transfer/Mount Storage Device
The Good
You can delete/update/change files on the go while connected through usb so that you do not need to unplug and remount the storage in order to view the files on your phone.
The Bad
If you want to view/transfer files from your Phone to a Mac, such as the case with myself, I needed to install an Android File Transfer app to edit/transfer files to the phone. This is painful if you want to plug the phone into another Mac (you will have to install that app again on the machine). For PC, I believe no such app needs to be installed though.
An alternative to this is using the AirDroid app which allows you to access your files/folders/contacts and much more through wifi. A great free app indeed, thanks Alkidweller for pointing it out!
Overall Verdict
The Galaxy Nexus is a great device, it has some issues most definitely (grainy screen/mediocre battery and camera). But the ICS shines, the large screen realestate, fantastic UX coupled with an amazing browsing experience is worth the upgrade from an iPhone and with a price of $399 it gives the most bang for the buck, compare that with the $650 for iPhone 4s.
- Two modifications I used were - Franco Kernel & Franco Updater App, Volume+
- For Mac Users: Android File Transfer App/ AirDroid
Here is a snapshot of my setup - ICS stock just works!

Great review and I have to say I agree with most. However, I just have to correct one thing. Yes, it would be easy to include a 'smart dialer' but as you know Android aims to be completely open source. This means that everyone should be able to build his or her own system. But smart dialing isn't open source! It's patented and can't be freely distributed. So Google have good reasons for not including that feature...
Great review, its like the rest of them.

Re: File Transfer
Don't know anything about a Mac, but as for the file transfer thing, have you tried AirDroid in the Play Store? Should work. There's nothing on the computer to install.
It uses WiFi to talk to your router. On your computer you open a browser and go to the (local) ip that AirDroid displays, enter a pass code and it displays a nice looking interface to your phone. Transfer files, play music, send and receive texts, install and uninstall apps.

I use a similar app for file transfers on Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit called Wifi Explorer Pro(there is also a free version, but if I use an app a lot I always but the pro to support development), because setting up MTP in Linux is a bit of a pain. Hopefully future versions of Linux will support MTP out of the box, but for now this is the way to go. I thought Ubuntu 12.04 was supposed to support it, but I have not successfully been able to use it.
Thanks OP for the review. It's nice to see someone post an honest and candid review based on their experiences and feelings while using the device, rather than just mindlessly comparing specs. I must say that I agree whole-heartedly on most of your points.
Overall, this is a fabulous device. It has a few shortcomings, but they are easily overshadowed by what it does well. And I've also used my mobile browser (Chrome) far more on this device than I ever did on my Nexus One. The crisp display (and large size) makes it actually useful for browsing the web.
Rather than AirDroid I like the samba file share app.
Windows, mac, and in most cases linux, have support for it built in.
You effectively have direct access to the file system, which includes being able to e.g. edit files without having to download them and re-upload.

I think franco's kernel that you are already using has built-in volume booster.
also mind sharing your custom color values ?
Great review, I have to agree with pretty much all of it. Though on the battery issue I'd recommend getting the extended battery (GSM can't comment on the LTE version)
One thing you didn't mention were the onscreen softkeys, I was wondering what you think of them? I've had the phone since Dec and I don't want to ever go back to a phone without them now

the franco's kernel volume boost was not good enough unfortunately, so I had to move to volume+, I suggest you give it a go if you are not quite happy with franco's built in one.
Here is my values for "colors multipliers" (I intentionally avoided the RGB Gamma Tweaks)
Red: 195
Green: 211
Blue: 278
I have not played with it much - I am sure if I put more time into it I could get a better combination. Let me know how that works out for you.

I still can't get over people saying the speakers are quite mine is loud. and ill have to test those settings for color. Also have you had a chance to play with the ip4s seems like your review was all based on ip4 just wondered if you like this over ip4s as well.

I HIGHLY recommend WiFi File Explorer.
Start the app, then browse to the IP address. Of course you have to have WiFi. Or WiFi Tether...
This is a great way to get files to and from the device without screwing with cables. It is also a great way to get a file from one Android device to another without having a PC to play middle man. This is also great for roms that don't have a file explorer cooked in by default.
Also with the Battery issue, I would also give the Nexus a +1 for it being removable and able to use an extended battery. I have an extended battery on my Verizon Nexus (2100mAh) and the thickness isn't noticeable (+1mm) but it extends it a few more hours.
As far as the Gray Banding... I'm at a loss. I DO know that the Nexus One had this issue too and it wasn't the screen problem but rather Google slimming down on the colors as a speed boost. I mean who needs millions of colors just to change a setting? There used to be a test like the browser would band... but the gallery wouldn't. After enough ruckus they upped the color count and it fixed.
I also think the reason for the banding is low quality images. I believe there is a hack around here that replaces the banding background with high quality images and it goes away. Who knows. It could just be the screen color limitation (16-bit vs 32-bit)

Yes, I had a 4s for a short while (less than 1 week) before I switched so I am basing most of my experience from iphone 4 which I have used over the last 10 months.

Should I get a Samsung Captivate Glide (i927)?

Sorry if this has already been asked, but how is the Samsung Glide? I have been using an HTC Status (ChaCha) for years, and just recently rooted. I liked the form factor and keyboard, but the internal memory was miserably limited, even after rooting and getting rid of bloatware, moving apps to SD, etc. The sound from the speaker was pretty poor too (I am aware that Beats audio can be installed to rooted phones ... have yet to try that) and putting the SD card slot underneath the battery is awkward. I have gotten a handle on Android's strengths and weaknesses (Gingerbread) so I will have a better idea of what to expect for my next phone. I definitely prefer a physical keyboard, and most Android based phones do not have one, or have poor specs. The Captivate Glide seems to measure up. I have read the specs GSM Arena gave on this phone, and it seems pretty good. It claims that it has Flash. Is this Adobe Flash, or something along the lines of HTC Status' Flash Lite? I definitely want Adobe Flash support, even if Adobe plans to end future support. I have an LG Neon lying around, a basic phone with a slide out keyboard ... it was okay, but for some weird reason only recognized one key input at a time, which made playing video games like Galaga miserable, even though the graphics were quite close to the arcade. I need to be able to press more than one key input at a time! I am also interested in Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean, neither of which would likely run very well on the Status, if they even can run. I have read of Glide users having a lot of problems with ICS. Should I wait for another phone with ICS preloaded, or just wait for a better Glide optimized ICS or Jelly Bean? Finally, how easy was it to root this phone? Rooting the Status was a real pain, as the HTC Dev software was getting me nowhere, by claiming the rom version is not supported ... even after the AT&T update. I bought the XTC Clip and couldn't get it to work, until a friend of mine got it working right (stick the flex cable in real tight in the SIM slot) and put on CWM and SuperUser. Somehow it did not unlock the carrier though. Anything like this for the Glide? How is the battery life?
Hello DearestLeader (that's an interesting choice of nickname given the origin of the devices being discussed!)
There are a few threads reviewing the device. I've played with one prior to giving it (SGH-I927R) to my girlfriend, so I won't be able to comment on all aspects of the phone.
If you're buying outright, another, more expensive (500$ outright) model that might be worth looking into is T-Mobile USA's recently announced Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G (SGH-T699). Same screen, worse camera (5MP versus 8MP for the 927), DC-HSPA 42 instead of HSPA 21, and a Snapdragon S4 Krait SoC instead of a Tegra 2. And it does support AT&T bands as well.
The ICS update for the Glide was just pulled from Kies, which indicates another build is on its way, likely fixing the issues reported here.
Rooting is easy: switch the phone to download mode, install CWM with Odin, install superuser zip of your choosing.
Unlocking is easy provided you're rooted and know how to use a hex editor.
If you're with Sprint, they released a new qwerty physical keyboard android called Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE. Comparable stats to our glide but it does have ICS preloaded.
I came from a Sony Ericsson k850i and couldn't live without buttons so I grabbed the Glide. It had a rough start not being as popular as other devices. We didn't get an official otterbox case or get official cyanogen mods but in the last few months, devs/testers/community really banded together and we have quite the support. We may not have ICS 100% but the hardworking devs and testers will take care of that. JB seems like a dream but who knows, someone just may surprise us.
Like Darkshado said, rooting & unlocking is fairly easy. There are many guides in the development sub-forum. Battery life was crap on gingerbread but improves quite a bit when on ICS. The only problem I've ever had was very minor GPS finding issues but I don't use it extensively so it was negligible.
With the ICS update, the Captivate Glide is a spectacular device. :good:
There were several major issues with Gingerbread (compass orientation incorrect, general lag and instability, poor bluetooth audio quality and battery life, etc) but they've all been resolved by the update and the community.
The screen, while not the highest res (800x480) is AMOLED and looks great. The CPU, while not quad-core, is still plenty fast, and it has 1gb RAM. Onboard storage is pitiful, but add a 32gb SD card and swap /mnt/sdcard with /mnt/sdcard/external_sd, and your primary storage can become up to 64gb.
It's not LTE, but it is still pretty quick. On Rogers in Canada I get ~5mbit/s down and 2mbit/sec up, which is totally respectable.
It's also a very cheap device now, since it is somewhat dated. Honestly, I can't recommend another keyboard phone more highly.
My $0.02.
bottom line, captivate glide is best phone available with physical keyboard.
even before ICS, i was highly please with the performance.
camera pics are GREAT
until they come out with a quad core phone with a physical keyboard, the only other phone i'd consider right now is a galaxy note.
i love this phone :good:
Thanks for the replies!
I will have to stick with AT&T, as I am on my mother's plan and not only she but several other people I call or text regularly are on AT&T too.
I did try out the phone at the AT&T store and it was nice. However, the sales rep said units sold after August 26th will not run Adobe Flash (the in store unit did not have it but was downloadable from Google Play and ran great). He did have people returning units for lack of Adobe Flash (I do not ask if these folks tried rooting or if they even bothered to download from Google Play). If Flash is good to go, without rooting (have to wait to see if there are no defects lor serious flaws like frequent unexpected reboots before rooting, as my warranty would be void) then I am getting one.

Worse case you could probably sideload the Flash apk onto the phone.
Remember that root's not supposed to void your warranty, there were some XDA portal posts about this iirc. Either way its nothing that a DIY stock re-flash wouldn't solve.
I have to stick with AT&T for the same reason. I love this phone though, but I just can't get used to the physical keyboard. My girlfriend texts and uses my phone sometimes and she loves the physical keyboard though. Overall its a good phone and I would recommend it to anyone wanting an android with decent specs.

I have the unlocked (and of course rooted) Samsung Galaxy Captivate Glide that I picked up used (but still in very good condition), and I can tell you that purchasing the phone (either old or new) is worth it, IMO. I like the fact that this phone have the hardware keyboard, decent organic LED screen, dual-core superscalar out-of-order Cortex A9 processor, and good 8MP camera. 4GB on-board storage didn't stop me from getting it. Loving this phone.
There is also few Android phone with the same hardward keyboard setup - try browsing through your favorite PC part internet store like Newegg as they sells both locked and unlocked smartphones nowaday too.

You can also buy a Bluetooth keyboard that's originally made for ipods that I seen once, they work for Android too I'm sure if you really want or need a keyboard. I use my touchscreen more personally than my slider, except on chrome for some reason has a bug? And let's me use my screen keyboard maybe 20% of the time.. odd but lol

I came from HTC g2 phone t-Mobile. I got this phone used off ebay in great condition. The company I work for is on att and I wanted a physical keyboard. Not too many to choose from. I use both on screen & physical keyboard equally. Rooting was a snap and am so happy with ics. Before ics I used dman's Inception v2 rom and loved it. Now I'm using nardrom 0.4 and hope dman comes out with a v3 rom. I'd recommend this phone to any one who likes the choice of a physical keyboard.
If you need a physical keyboard, GSM service, and want a powerful phone, there really aren't many other options. I say get it, I love mine.
I've been wondering about this myself. I love the Epic 4G, but I don't want to go back to Sprint, and I'm not too thrilled with Cricket (I don't love them nor hate them, they'll do for now). So I figure, get a Captivate Glide, unlock it, and go to Net10 or Straight Talk. The Captivate Glide appears to be a sort of unofficial successor to the Epic 4G, so it seems logical. Plus since its GSM I can take it with me whenever I travel outside the United States.

Depends on the Rom you are using for GPS. I have found GB to work great with the GPS but ICS is a little lack luster as it connects but only after about 10 minutes. Please be patient as a lot of people have mixed results and I am curious with CM9 or possibly CM10 with GPS once those roms are out of alpha.

Ah okay. See the most I was going to do to a Captivate Glide when I get it would be to root it. So basically if I root it I should go ahead and get a rom, preferably the one you mentioned (GB), until something better comes along. I have no problem waiting, and if GB is a good fix in the meantime, well problem solved.
GB is not a rom per say but I meant Ginger Bread which is what it has installed by default. There are many GB Roms available I recommend OSIMOOD but I am sure many will recommend others. I have never had an issue with GPS on any of the available Gingerbread Roms. Only people that had issues with GPS and GB are not in North America and then you will have to do some tweak for it to work. Some have got that working and some have not. I am sure that is where you saw many posts on GPS for the glide having issues. Just go back and see those posts as to where the people are from. ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) on the other hand has some issues where it can take a long time to connect but as I said before some people are working on this.
JB
I use gps all the time on my Glide. The most issues I've had is a few time I've had to turn gas off and back on 2 or 4 times in a row.
But that only happened a few times in 5 months.
This ia using both the stock GB and the stock ICS , and after rooting ICS.
Overall, i would give GPS on my Glide 9.5 out of 10

I see. So when I get a Glide, I can either leave it alone (let it stay on GB and not update it to ICS), or root it to stock GB. If I do the latter then I can get roms made just for the GB.

What phone to get after Desire?

I had HTC Desire for nearly 3 years, and it is a great phone, but I think it is time to upgrade, because:
- it is annoyingly slow with my regular set of programs installed, even on fastest available roms
- it doesn't have kernel 3.0, and because of that JB roms have shortcomings
- a little bit too small screen for GPS navigation
- really crappy camera
- somewhat short battery life
Some time ago I had a chance to look at Galaxy S2 in person and it looked like a perfect phone (at least for 2 minutes I had it in my hands).
Somewhat bigger screen, more internal storage, kernel 3.0.
I use custom roms, so big development community is important for me. I have been spoiled by Desire as it (still) has a large one.
Galaxy S2 would cost me around 170-200 euro to get it.
Should I take that, or look for something else in this price range?
My requirements:
- larger screen (not necessarily much larger)
- android (duh)
- solid build quality
- large development community
- noticeably faster CPU than Desire (Dual+ core would come in handy)
- microUSB
- good/very good camera
- good battery life
- price up to 200 euro (used)
- would be nice if it had FM transmitter (not receiver) but it is not necessary
- it must by BLACK or therebout
I also considered s2 but there's one serious setback to it. Namely, the screen is amoled and without pentile matrix.
What's bad about it you ask? pixels that are frequently used lose color and items that you have on screen for most time are somewhat paler than the rest of the screen, and you can see their shadow for the whole time, ppl reported that with all amoled displays and non pentile of s2 is even more susceptible to that. That happens even to devices 3 months old, depending on how heavily they are used I guess. You can google it to see for yourself, just type galaxy s2 amoled burn in. There are also few good YouTube vids showing that. Items that you usually can see are burned in status bar, soft keys from your most used app, keyboard, alarm icon and "fully charged" sign across the screen as during night charging the phone lights up when battery is full and keeps the screen on until you turn it off or unplug it/on some ROMs at least, stock including/.
Is Desire not affected by that?
Then what else would you suggest?
Only first edition of desire pvt1 I believe had amoled screens, the rest are sporting slcd which is not organic and does not suffer from this burn in effect.

Go for SGS2+. It is newer phone, available almost at the same price as SGS2, probably have warranty and no burn-in effect of any major cosmetic wear.
But I think there is no black variant, but dark blue.
Price is 200-230 EUR.

S2+ makes no sense, is more expensive than regular s2, has same screen with same setbacks and worse gpu, videocoreiv vs Mali 400.
Sensation seems good, but I've got no experience with that phone.
If you want a dev community supporting your device, avoid htc phones. HTC is terribly slow when it comes to releasing updates and sources.
If I helped, hit the thanks button!

I disagree with you. But again, it is on him to pick something that he likes. We are here to suggest him.
I like HTC Because of Sense, speed (on some new devices) new features big rom list's etc. I dont like samsung bcs every new phone (LG,ZTE,Nokia,Sony, and many more) are copy of Samsung,Same android UI, same phone design i will say. JUST A COPY .
HTC Have some original from begining of production for me that is a great and like i sayed i will suggest you to buy some HTC Model (HTC One X, HTC Sensation.not new but very good, HTC One v (it is not so special but it is very good, speed, and it is very Cheap)
But if you want to buy some other phone mark Yes i will suggest you to but SGSII or SGSIII Mini. Mini have small Display but have great camera great speed great support and what is importatt you can find it for 170/80 Eur
If i helped something to you give FIRST THANKS to my profile
+1 for the sensation, i baught mine used for 100 euro and its like brand new, i got it off a guy cheap coz it was stuck in bootloader lol, i got it home, flashed a ruu then s-off & rooted and it has great dev support, loads of sense roms, 3.5 - 3.6 - 4.1 - 4+ and now waiting for team venom to release sense 5. Also loads of JB - AOSP roms and 4.3 JB roms, really is a great phone with good hardware to handle all roms.
About sensation, the newer roms have working camera/video or is it stuck with that issue like our old desires?
And how do you cope without the trackpad, I tend to write lengthy emails/forum posts and it's a great tool when I want too correct something, yet no other phone has it. does it mean trouble for guys like me?

everything works, and i never really used trackpad on the desire.
I would never buy sensation. Death grip issues and dust under screen glass is way too much for me. Sgs2+ is ftw in my opinion.

Meh, I am stuck.
I read around here that s2 display is horrible when compared to s3.
s3 has even cheaper feel, and is 100-170e more expensive
Sensation is useless to me.
Price of S4 is absurd...

What bout One X/S? In ireland they going for bout 175 - 225 euro, good all round phone and fairly solid.
One S would be good bargain, but no official 4.2.2 for him. He is eol already, unfortunately. One X is expensive, like S3.

My friend is selling his One X for 200 euro in mint condition, he dont use it, its just sitting in his drawer. I was gona buy it but i always wanted a sensation lol. If ur interested i could say to him, he has it a while so maybe i can get it cheaper for u. Postage would be round 10 euro. Let me know
P.S - im not dodgy r that, user k3lcior had no gps antenna so i gave him mine from my desire (coz my desire is dead), free of charge, and i posted it to poland.
well if I may make a suggestion, I would say get the Nexus 4
Pros: (according to what you listed)
larger screen and clearer screen
will always have the latest and greatest Android OS since its from Google
I don't remember the build quality on it but I know its at least better than the desire
haven't checked the dev support but since its a bit more open.... should still be better than the desire
very fast 1.5GHz quad-core CPU
microUSB
8MP camera and a 1.3MP front cam
decent 2,100 mAh battery
and most importantly it comes in Black
Cons:
its $300 which about 224 euros (so slightly over budget although sorta worth it)
no FM trasmitter
limited storage and no SD card expansion
so really its an amazing phone, its mainly only brought down by not having an SD card slot but if you find the 8 or 16GB models fine then I'd say go for it.

[Q] Note 10.0 2014 Visible Digitizer Matrix

Hello everyone. I have been reading forums on this website for a long time and I must say there is tons of useful information over here. So thought I should become a member too.
Recently I Bought Note 10.1 2014 Edition LTE version. I was expecting it to be much better that its really is. The display is nice but there is lag on this Tablet. It stutters during web browsing. I have a note 3 also which is much smoother although it has 1.9 Ghz Exynos processor as compared to 2.3 Ghz on this tablet. Anyways I have read on net that may be its because it has double the amount of pixels on display as compared to note 3 therefore it has some amount of lag.
Ok my main question to you guys who already own this tablet. In reflection of light I can see the Digitizer Matrix all along the display. its a bit annoying looks like faint sctraches on the screen. I have used many android devices but never experienced anything like it before. while looking as it directly with no light reflection it is not visible at all but even in faintest light reflection is starts to become visible even with the display on
So is it normal or a defect?
Help would be highly appreciated.

Have you used a device with an inductive display before? It puts out an electromagnetic signal which detects the presence of the pen. That's why the display looks different. I've been using mine since November and have never noticed the grid in everyday use. As for lag it pretty much went away with the 4.4 update. If you're already on 4.4 and the display grid is going to bother you return the device while you still can.

The visible matrix does not bother me too much when in use. The display is still beautiful.
I am still on 4.3 coz 4.4 is not available in my region yet. Lets hope once the update is made available in my region, lag will reduce.
The gaming performance however, is better than on note 3.

4.4 is rolling out painfully slow. What region are you in and what model number N10.1-14 do you have? Chances are you can safely download and install a compatible region's ROM without changing the status of your device or tripping KNOX.

You can download the HK 4.4 ROM here.
http://samsung-updates.com/details/30043/Galaxy_Note_10.1_2014_LTE/SM-P605/TGY/P605ZSUCNF1.html
Many people on the forum are using ROMs from other (but compatible) regions because 4.4 hasn't been rolled out to their specific region yet. I'm using a Panamanian ROM on a SM-P601 from Trinidad. They work fine. There can be some oddity (I still have lock screen widgets which I shouldn't and don't have Daynote when I should) but everything else works as designed.
If you've never installed a non-standard ROM on your device do a Google search on "Odin." It'll link you to s/w you need to download and provide you with instructions. I can answer any questions you might have. There's little risk and it doesn't affect your device's status (it stays "official") or KNOX. For me, 4.4 was like getting a new tablet.
Yes I am sure 4.4 solves many issues. I will try the above instructions today. thanks a lot and best regards.

Hi due to political instability in my country, my office is off nowadays and I finally got some time to update my software.
I installed P605XXUCNF2 version which is from NEE region. At first I was not sure but then the lag and stutter in my tablet forced me to go for it.
Downloaded from this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-10-2014/general/sm-p605-p605xxucnf2-firmware-t2810048
Like you said Barry its literally like having a new tablet. The lag is gone and overall it has become really smooth.
Thank you for your advice without which I would never have found the solution.
God bless you bro.

i just thought i'd pitch in, theres a setting in chrome you can change to eliminate that lag - it just doesnt allocate enough ram for the resolution its rendered at by default.
Wow another thread about lag..I have had this tab since Dec 2013 ..Never had lag, no issues ever... I have a life, so I don't sit and stare at the tablet all day and pick at it. It's Android . And Sammy it will have some issues...There are quick easy fixes for the mysterious lag people are complaining about. This is the best tab out for this year..The Tab S is the same tab minus the pen..it only has a better screen ..but that could be debated as well.

The amoled display will considerably increase battery life and will have better contrast. Its a huge improvement.
Other specs of tab s is same as note 10.1 as far as I know.
