I mean, what will I lose if I choose to use a rom without sense?
Do I get less battery drain?
you'll lose:
Sense Launcher, Sense Widgets - this can be fully replaced by Launcher Plus Pro, or, if you don't like the look of Sense Widgets by ADW.Launcher
Sense programs, like mail, calendar, ...
FM Radio
HTC Sync - you won't be able to sync your Desire calendar with Outlook directly any longer. You'll have to buy third party software to do this via the Google cloud or you use an Exchange Server.
Because the HTC Froyo source got released now, as it seems, you'll also be able to undervolt Sense ROMs now.
However, non Sense ROMs are lighter, more customized and contain some essential features which I miss on Sense ROMs: Bluetooth HID support.
Why get rid of sense?, its amazing!!!
you will also loose htc dialer and htc contacts
I love sense because of the widgets I keep it for that.

Agreed. I love everything about sense. It makes the phone great. If I wanted senseless I could have bought an N1.
Sense is the reason desire is the best smart phone! I would not dream having a smartphone without it...

Sense is very nice but I see that there are many roms that don't contain it. So, I was wondering if it realy is neasecery, or what is better in a non-sense rom, and if a non-sense rom is less hungry for battery
I have two Desires - one has a Sense ROM and the other is running CyanogenMod. There are one or two small things I prefer about the CyanogenMod ROM, but a great deal more I prefer about Sense, but there are others on this forum who will tell you the opposite, and be equally correct because it is just an opinion.
One thing I will say though is that you will often hear that non-Sense ROMs are "faster" than Sense ROMs. In my experience, if there is a speed difference, you can only really tell in benchmarks - in general use I feel my Sense phone is every bit as fast as my CyanogenMod phone. The same is true on battery life - both seem to sip about the same amount of power.
I don't think there is any real alternative other than trying out a non-Sense ROM for yourself and making your own choice.
Regards,
Dave
You can undervolt Sense roms of course. Also now with S-Off you can remove the Sense apps you dont need easily from the phone.
After playing with a non-Sense rom I am back to a Sense one mainly because I cold not live with the battery drain and I can now customize the Sense apps.
On Alex 1.7 and with light use I can almost go 3 days on a battery... with a non-Sense rom I could barely make 24-36h (wipe before flash and few apps installed, no sync), so it's clear in my case which rom type drains more battery.
Also this Alex 1.7 Sense rom is smooth as silk and I never get any apps or the whole phone crashing (daily occurence in aosp rom for many people?).
Aosp roms are great if you like messing around with your phone all the time, but you cant get away with the fact that Sense roms just work.
Respect to all the rom makers Sense or non.Sense.
Thanks for all the responses, you helped a lot =]

Mhh, something wasn't working properly then. With very light use I can also get 3 days battery life.
Else it's difficult to compare, because it heavily depends on how you use the phone. Playing around, surfing, ... drastically reduces battery life.
However, at the moment I use DeFroST 5.0 with HAVS kernel and the battery life looks perfect to me.

Should be fixed now. AOSP roms had a few issues, but at it seems as if they're ironed out.

Somehow true, sometimes, but sense roms also have bugs often, and a not working revision, which gets fixed in the next release.
So if you want a stable ROM use the stock. If you want some customization, use a custom sense rom. If you don't use sense features, replaced it with other apps/widgets/tools, and need some AOSP rom features, then get an AOSP rom.
i dont have a Desire atm, but i plan on getting one soon (or possibly the DHD). I like sense, especially the new one which allows you to theme it. But something i've noticed with sense compared to stock is that HTC have removed a lot of animations. Like when opening an app or closing it. It instantly opens or closes with no animation. Stock android has a sort of zoom in zoom out animations.
From what i understand, HTC have set the options to "Some animations" in the settings by default. Could someone here go into Settings, Sound and Display, Animations, and set it to All Animations and report here if they see any changes?
htc contacts, gallery , dialer , camera and video , radio, weather ,friendstream are light years and galaxies far away from the aosp android ones...
Due to massive upload of sense 3.5 ROMS, this thread can be deleted.
Too much of the same, I find personally
The WFSDEV team should work together to make one or two good sense 3.5 ROMS.
But no, what do we see, 5 or more ROMS which are almost the same.
And then they're all claiming its their own work, and asking for thanks / donations.
Users get confused, don't know what to try, ...
I claim that HenseMod is fully themed by me only, I've chosen the icons, wallpapers, fonts, ..., and I'm proud of it
The WFSDEV team isn't a team either, I asked to other team members to help me with a cwm zip and no news of it. Hate that.
So I think I will leave the WFSDEV team, nah
Cm7 & hensemod.

Here's my 2 cents:
(First of all, I have flashed and re-flashed EVERY custom ROM that I could get my hands on - from this site or otherwise - onto my WFS... here's my quick overview.)
- I currently run m1ndh4x8r's Cracker. It's smooth (like Hense), stable, and as close to stock as you can get (without actually running the rooted stock.)
- The rooted stocks are, by far, the most stable (but everyone wants an overclocked kernel, so stocks are out).
- The NonSense ROM was quite nice, but only at GB 2.3.3.
- Matteo ROM is fast, but not much else. Not a lot of internal space left, the gallery function is broken (when accessing thru the camera app) and the default font is absolutely useless - be prepared to change it) There is no built-in advanced power button menu. Bootup animation is annoying. Also, Matteo breaks the proximity sensor on your phone.
- Marvelous ROM: Fantastic (but not overclock'ed)
- CM7 is, I find, very unstable. Not to mention the ugliest ROM I've ever seen. Sure, you can theme it... but the system stuff still looks pretty gross. CM7 is notorious for it's POOR handling of graphics (but it makes up for it in speed and TONS of free internal space leftover). That being said, I could never get a decent Antutu score running CM7. Overclocked at 806 + "Performance" gov., I still can't break 1690 (about 1750 if I use "Smartass + bfq").
CM7 has a crappy camera, crappy dialer, and crappy contacts feature.
Not a fan of the launcher, either.
Also, CM7 breaks the SMS notification feature (over the SMS icon).
Did I mention it looks horrible? I'd rather sacrifice a couple meg's of RAM+space in order to get a phone that looks/feels decent and is a pleasure to use. But that's just me, what do I know.
- Hense was my favourite, until I discovered the Setting widgets is broken... and other odd quirks like the HTC Skin feature is not linked (Link2SD) properly... leading me to believe it's not quite as true to stock as can be (like the m1ndhax0r roms, for example). Hense was quite smooth and peppy. The only changes I made to that was ripping out the new SMS and putting in the old one (no one likes those god damn bubbles) and I think replacing the Market back to old version too). Nice bootup/shutdown animations.
- I even played with the MIUI "port" (well.. not really a port, but...)
This ROM has potential in that it's fast and has even MORE internal space and RAM leftover than CM7... but it's still based on CM7.
Once you taste the Sense UI, it's hard to stay away from it (for very long). But, your mileage may vary.
To summarize, I find the m1ndh4x8r ROMs the best overall (but they are not perfect... their small internal space is problematic, but can be resolved with the usual tweaks n' tricks). Like I say, I'm currently on Cracker (but always on the lookout for newer/better ROMs) and I haven't had any problems with it so far:

Currently using Hensemod because it's fast and i can play RR2 smoothly . The only problem I encountered was with link2sd. After installing 130 apps, system keeps telling me memory is low after reboot. So I switched to data2sd and everything seems flawless except for a slight decrease in antutu score, which is just fine for me as long as i can still play RR2 smoothly
I also saved a nandroid backup of m1ndh4x8r rom. It was my personal favorite before I installed Hensemod. It's really fast, i even got a higher 3D antutu score with it compared to Hensemod.
Totally agree with Tigger. CM7 is nice in terms of memory. However when it comes to graphics specially 3D, it's very poor. Sluggish when playing HD games such as RR2. Pictures taken with it's camera are so ugly i can't live with it. Installing third party camera apps did not solve the problem either. I guess it's CM7 itself.
I also tried every single rom posted here, benchmarked, installed 3d games and experimented with the mods available to enhance it. But i believe Hensemod and
m1ndh4x8r are the best.
Best JxMatteo ROM for me I use Link2SD this best choose for me. I try data2sd supported roms but my micro sdcard too slow so phone performance very bad.
Just downgraded to 2.3.3 (1.66.401.1), its the best and most stable I've seen so far.

Relevant to this thread, I just posted an XLS chart that compares (what I think are) some general/important features of all the custom Wildfire S ROMs that I could find.
It's my own personal work... so, it's sloppy, but probably still useful for anyone trying to figure out what ROM to run but doesn't wanna dive into the flash just yet. Or perhaps folks just wanna see how one ROM compares to another?

Hello !
I tried alot of Roms on my Wonder..
Honestly I stopped at F.A.W.
It's the best one for me, battery is OKEY, not goot but okey..., I don't care about the Design. BUT, I hate the GB Lockscreens..!
I hate the Code lock, Pin lock, draw lines lock (what ever it's supposed to be called in english, im german..) and slide the screen away. Samsung did a really dirty job with the lockscreens... I mean, loock at the iPhone. Im not a fanboy of iPhones etc. but sliding a Button ist the best lockscreen. Or HTC Sense, slide away a ring. Man that's what I call lockscreen..!
The ICS Lockscreen is also alright.
I want ICS Lock (or if possible, HTC Sence Lock) on my Wonder (F.A.W. Rls2 - Gingerbread 2.3.6)
I know there are Apps/Tweaks like "Hololocker" etc. But honestly they never work right for me..! The first few hours everything is alright. Later, it starts to show the wrong Time etc. AND sometimes I even need to go through TWO Lockscreens. The standard GB one, and Holo Locker...
And in fact, this is really annoying me. I hate TouchWizard and the general "Samsung Style", and If I knew this before, I would have bought the HTC Desire S or something like that. But Im okey with the Wonder, and I don't want to say it's a bad mobile, cause I would be lying...
But the Lockscreen, is the only point which is really annoying me hard..!
So, is there any possibility to install ICS Lockscreen on GB ? A Mod ? Which works well and don't gets stuck all the time ?
I'd appreciate help
Btw. Im not using ICS Beta 2, because the Batterie is really just a piece of... on my wonder. It lasts 4 hrs, while I do absolutly nothing. (well okey, sometimes i check the Time, but that can't use my battery that hard...) AND the WiFi Connection is awfully slow on my Wonder... So I want to stay on FAW. Just wanted to mention that..

Hi
to till now me also didnt find ICS lockscreen yet & i use all 3rd party apps like Holo Locker (sucks) iPhone locker or GO Locker (much better then others) but ICS lockscreen is very good, So there is no zip flash file that you want (in my view)
If u really crazy for ICS lockscreen then become as CM9 series ROMS such as inDroid RemICS, Digital AOKP, Bio Hazard, etc...
you'll able to see ICS lockscreen and all functions on ICS in your GTW.

I know, but I hate these Launchers. None of them works well. No one ! (in my opinion..) and I don't want to use CM9/10 because the WiFi Connection is really too slow for me..! +Battery drain...
So I want to stay on GB... Think there's nothing to do for me...
When I was still on GB, WidgetLocker always work without fail.
I've left GB, though. I'm on CM9b3 now with 'pristine' install, and couldn't be happier

I flashed the "MIUI 2.10.12 Jelly Bean v2.7" to my HT Desire (bravo), but I read it might not work right on older phones, due to memory/speed limitations (Desire is 1ghz processor, 576mb RAM). Given how buggy it has been, force closing on GO keyboard, Google Search/Voice, rebooting, etc., I'm starting to believe it, or any Jellybean ROM, might have greater requirements than the original Desire can provide. So which MIUI release would be best for the Desire, and in particular, allow me to solve the persistent problem of running out of internal memory? I'm very confused about all the flavours of MIUI! "MIUI Fresh for Fridays"? "MIUI XJ X-PART" ?? (If so, which MIUI XJ X-Part: Data2Whatever, D2Ext, A2SD??). Or will a Froyo ROM run better than a Gingerbread ROM on the Desire?

<Kudos for not making a one huge, incomprehensible block of text out of your post...>
If you have a quick SD card, go for MIUI XJ X-Part (the fastest of the lot).
It works, very, very well. Gets about twice as much Quadrant points as CM7, battery lasts on me couple of days, and the rom has almost everything included (like call recording, sms/call screening to name just a few).
Plus, it looks gorgeous and is not longer being updated, which means you don't have to worry of installing new versions.
I used to use CM7 for nearly two years, but this is just better in almost every respect.
The only annoying thing about GB-based MIUI is that you cannot have just pattern screenlock. It can be none, swipe, or swipe+pattern.

Download MIUI from official site for desire.
If U have fast, stable ROM. Don't use ICS/JB Rom, close to full stability, but some things do not work properly and often exist a lot of problems with apps.
Why MIUI ?
From my side, I recommend MildWild based on Oxygen.
One step ahea o' ya, bro. I downloaded the stock MIUI yesterday, and have been playing with it all day. I've avoided it up until now, because I read it was laggy, bad battery life, bloated, etc. So far, it's the best I've tried! Almost everything I touch on the phone responds instantly. I can actually get things done quicker. I have 247mb free on my internal data storage space (out of 288mb). Best I've seen on any ROM!
And yes, I used to have MildWild. And it was great and fast and all, but I missed MIUI. Why? MIUI has style. I can theme every part of it, and make the phone look just how I want. Yes, you can do that with shells to a certain extent (in fact, I don't use the stock MIUI launcher). But MIUI also comes with great features and really excellent built-in apps. I went out looking for replacements for all those apps, and I did not like the replacements as much. And one of main things I liked in MIUI I could not find elsewhere, is the toggles in the notification menu. I like that they can be arranged clearly in a page form, and not just a row of hard-to-decipher symbols that you scroll through.
They may be little things, but there are a whole lot of them in MIUI. Also, I like that it's based on iOS. Because it made it easier to transform my Android into an iPhone 4S. (Starting with... iOS splash screen, boot screen, ADW launcher w/ iPhone theme and enlarged icons, iOS system sounds, iOS wall, iOS lock screen (MIUI theme), iOS system setting/notification screens (MIUI theme), iOS-cloned SMS/Email (Innomail) /Calculator/Notes app, iOS-like system font (MIUI font "Black Ice"), iOS keyboard, iOS Siri-clone (AIVC), iOS-inspired Helvetica clock/weather widget (BeWeather), etc. etc!

hi
I have a 2 year old DHD and have been using stock ROM for all these days for office use. I do not play games on mobile or install many apps. So I am kind of used to the Sense layout and design which in itself is quite neat. But having used it for so long, i have rooted and started trying various ROMs available here. Is there a ROM that satisfies all these?
My daily requirements.
1. Neat dialer with perfect T9 option
2. Exchange mail with lot of search options
3. Fast and meaty key board
4. SMS to email option (like in Blackberry)
5. Speaker on and off while talking
6. Stock market widget
7. Weather
8. At least one day battery life
9. Auto screen rotation in camera, gallery etc
10. Full screen video
11. Shortcuts on home screen
12. Hotspot
13. Bluetooth
So these are some of my most used options on DHD. While some of the ROMs have full functionality, few options are missing. Since my battery is already old, I am not complaining about battery life.
Have used CM 7.2, JellyTime R29, CodefireX 4.2.1, Sabsa Prime 10, Venom DHD till now. Every rom has some quirks.
CM 7.2 stable- Best ROM of all. Except for the poor exchange mail. There is no option to search mails. When i click the search option, nothing happens. Is this a bug or this functionality is missing in CM 7.2? Can we flash JB Exchange mail APK over 7.2? What about CM 7.2 nightlies? What is the reason for CM continuing work on 2.3.7 when rest of the world is already moving on to bigger things?
If this exchange mail issue is solved, then I am going to use CM as my daily driver. Please suggest.
Seeing that you're used to sense, I'll recommend Blackout ICS, it is sense 3.6. Fast and stable, and I don't think there are any issues too

Thanks. Will try Blackout shortly. But in ICS ROMs, stock widget is missing. Its there in Htc sense 3 but missing in sense 4.

Vote for Venom
Venom DHD is working the best for me right now. I havent run accross anything not working and battery life is middle of the road.
I keep trying each of the jellys but they're just not all there. They work pretty well, but miss some important feature like, mute or BT. Once they get those nailed down, I'll seriously consider going that route.
You can't install HTC apps without having sense built in to the rom. Try the last two suggestions, you'll like one of them.
Btw, I used k9 email for my 3 work email accounts, it's better than stock plus it's easier to backup and restore.

I'll second blackout ICS. I find that sense 4.1 is way too heavy for the DHD. Sense 3.6 is a lot lighter and faster, you'll have less app force closes and annoying freezes due to not having enough memory. I personally like Nikhil's ICS, which is sense 4a. It's fast, but sense 4a has a lot of the stock widgets removed for lightness (the HTC One V (the original phone the ROM is based on) has even less RAM than us)).

thanks for the suggestion. Though I have not tried Blackout, have tried ICS via Sabsa Prime. Didnt like it completely. Now I am currently using Codefirex 4.2.1 and found it adequate for my use. I fell in love with native exchange mail and gmail UI. I have tried Touchdown, K-9 mail etc but they have very poor UI. Just deleted them with in few hours of usage.
Why nobody is answering my question on possibility of flashing JB mail APK on CM 7.2. In my view CM 7.2 is the most well developed custom rom for Ace. Sad to see that CM is no longer working on CM10.
I tried Sabsa Prime, Blackout, Sabsa Bliss and the others. Sense 4 is not suits me, I don't know why. I used Blackout 1 or 2 months but it wasn't stable for me. Then I gave a chance to S.Bliss and I don't think to change anymore. Sabsa Bliss is stable and fast. I don't have any idea about flashing JB mail APK on CM 7.2
