Why, oh why, is my A100 filling up the data/GPS folder with all this data? If I leave GPS enabled, it will fill up the 3.9GB of free space with txt file after txt file. I'm not that upset the GPS seems to have a major glitch, I'm just wondering what program is probably doing it. I have GMaps, GEarth and CoPilot and Geocaching installed (probably others that access GPS but these are the main ones).
Anyone?
I too have this problem, but I never found out why. My GPS folder got up to over 1 GB of txt files.
I was able to delete these files on my rooted A100 with RootExplorer, and there appears to be no detrimental effects.
I have heard that Copilot was the culprit.
Hopefully they will release an update to fix it.
It ain't copilot
I don't have CoPilot and it does the same thing to me. I have Garmin Pilot installed, other than that, just the maps app that comes with the tablet.
Disabling GPS locator does stop this so it is definitely a GPS issue. I hear it is not only a CoPilot issue too.
Mine seems to be caused by the weather.com app that updates the weather hourly using gps fix location

I have found out that it is copilot that was causing the same issue I was having. I have es explorer and I just go into that folder and delete all the txt files and I get my space back.

My TP2 keeps opening up it's data connection and I can't trace what it is.
I have turned off automatic updates for:
Weather
Facebook (manila & app)
QuickGPS
Is there anything else that opens up the data connection? I'm getting a bit concerned about it.
I have installed the following apps:
GSplayer
Tomtom7
Igo8
Coreplayer
Total Commander
S2U2
Also can anyone recommend a decent data usage counter for the TP2?
Use SPB wireless monitor. I think its awesome at keeping track of my data usage.
Wow that's actually really useful! Time to track down this rogue app!
Thank you.
i had the same problem.. i had Tomtom and CorePlayer installed...
I did a hard reset (for another reason) and i didnt install Tomtom yet... and so far i dont have my data connection opening randomly anymore.
It's strange. Is there a way to reset the stats in SPB Wireless Monitor?
I wanna start with a clean record so that I can see what app is opening randomly.
I had tomtom on my kaiser and it never did this. Whatever it is, it's not using much data.
I forgot to mention that I have google maps installed...and it could be this that's causing the problem..I will keep an eye on it!
You can use a couple of methods to stop your data connection opening at all. One I used to use is NOGPRS, which disables your data connection(s), or you can try Schaps Advanced Config (I believe he has released one for the Rhodium somewhere) where you can turn off your data connection(s) in the same way. I don't use either method now as I have an unlimited data plan, but it was really useful before.
I also have an unlimited data plan, but it has an AUP and I don't wanna exceed it by some rogue app downloading hundreds of MB of data without me knowing!
I am aware of NODATA and similar apps, but they're a pain when I actually want to use the net on the phone!
Beggars can't be choosers I know, but I just wanna find out what app thinks it has the right to connect to the net without me knowing about it!
Incidentallly, to reset stats in SPB Wireless Monitor, delete the files in \Application Data\SPB Wireless Monitor\ (though this deletes ALL stats, since the beginning of time etc)

Just a thought....
The latest version of Google Maps (3.0.1.6) comes with Google Latitude.
If Latitude is enabled it could be using your data network to send Location Updates to Google-Central (It would be low data volumes periodically).
To disable background Latitude:
When you exit Google Maps via "Menu->Exit", if you get asked a question: "Continue to share your location with Latitude?" answer "No" and this may sort out the Data Connection problem.
I've had the nexus toro (LTE) for 5 days now and have had issues with the GPS since the start. It simply says 'searching' all the time and will not lock. I've installed GPS status, and it shows that it rarely if every sees a satellite (one might pop up, be gray for a second, then disappear).
Here's a pic comparing my OG droid to the nexus right next to each other:

(sorry i'm not allowed to post links yet)
Anyone have any ideas? I've turned GPS on/off, reset the gps cache using GPS Status, and can't think of anything else.
I have the same problem gps locks less than 50% of the time.
Galaxy nexus s LTE.
Its the same on the GSM version. Not much you can do about it unfortunately.

Don't; that is not a solution. On my Samsung Fascinate soft restarts would help get a lock on, but shortly after the GPS would lose connection to satellites.
Having to restart your phone every time you need to use GPS is a ridiculous inconvenience. This seems to be a major flaw in the chips / radios that Samsung chooses for GPS.
i get gps locks in 2-3 seconds.works fine.
I'm glad to see others are noticing this problem. I posted a thread in another forum complaining about this:
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/ga...ssions/189067-problem-nexus-locating-gps.html
Does anyone know if this is definitely a hardware issue? Is it possible that it's a bug in Google Maps that's causing the problem with ICS?
It doesn't have to be Google Maps it self. I have it in other apps as well which use the GPS.
Might be hardware, might not.
One of the main reasons I upgraded from the Galaxy S (fassy) was that it's GPS chip went from working not very well to not working at all. If I'm paying for a smart phone, I would like a to have GPS and maps.
So far I have not been disappointed with the GNex's GPS at all. Maybe I lucked out. Try downloading GPSfix from the market and see if that helps.
I have the exact same problem here in Sweden, went for a run and it would not lock on to any satellites at all during half an hour. Really disappointing, thinking of returning it due to this...
Has anybody found a solution to the problem maybe???
was having same problem
Hello fellow GNex users having the GPS issue.
I was having a GPS problem as well where when using Google Maps or Navigation, the GPS status would say 'searching for GPS' forever.. maybe after 10 minutes it would get a lock and operate normally after that.
I downloaded an app from the android market called GPS Test to try to get some better idea of what could be going on.
When I ran the app, I noticed my phone would pick up a few satellites (satellites in view) usually 4 or 5 satellites, but it would never use them, they would just appear as in view without being used for a location, and the GPS test app was never able to report my location. From within the GPS app settings I was able to clear aGPS and update aGPS, but the same behavior would reoccur where the satellites would be in view but would not be used for location.
I tried toggling Wi-Fi, clearing out other location methods, and even going into airplane mode to use GPS only, but same behavior.
What I finally did was clear aGPS once more and then immediately power off the phone, pull the battery, wait a couple minutes and then replace battery and power back on.
Upon going back into GPS test, I did an update aGPS, and then I started to immediately pick up satellites and use them for location. Toggling all the same data connectivity settings (Wi-Fi, location using towers, airplane mode etc) I was continuing to get the same positive response.
I have tried to use google maps and google navigation again and am getting near immediate GPS locks. Comparing this to my Nexus One, the lock is much faster and with about the same accuracy.
This seemed to solve my problem for now, I hope it might help anyone else.
Phone information:
Verizon Galaxy Nexus
Stock Android ICS 4.0.2 Build ICL53F
subsonicbug got it right...
I had the same problem of never syncing GPS, I follow the suggested method and voilĂ 2 secs GPS sync...
You save my day
Thank you
My gnex was having similar issues, after reboot it would lock quickly, but after a while it would take forever and never lock
Been using this to reset / download agps and it helps a ton!
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2
subsonicbug's method was the only thing that got my GPS back to usability after several very frustrating days during which my GNex could barely see two or three satellites (and not get a fix on any of them) even under an open cloudless sky.
He or she is clearly on to something...now let's hope that we (and by "we" I mean people way more knowledgeable than me) can figure out why a significant number of Galaxy Nexus devices get so far out of whack that only a soft GPS state reset followed by a battery pull can get GPS working again.
there's actually an easier way that doesn't involve a battery pull. download the app "gps status & toolbox", press menu, tools, "manage a-gps state", reset, after a soft reboot go back into the app, follow the same process but instead of pressing "reset" press "download" after the download you should be good to go. hope this helps!
FasterFix works for me, make sure you have busybox installed.
The unit I'm currently using says location unavailable after resets, pulls, wipes. Hardware problem? I do get intermittent flashes of use.
Here is a fix that may work. I had the same problem and this worked for me, got a gps lock with gmaps in less than a minute. I have the VZW GNex, rooted bootloader unlocked, works with any rom.
Conditions needed:
1. Phone needs to be rooted, I believe, if you have success with out root please share.
2.file explorer, I use root explorer
Now follow these steps:
1. Open root explorer, or any other file explorer
2. Navigate to /etc
3. Ensure the system is mounted r/w, if using root explorer press mount r/w
4. Open gps.conf with text editor
5. The first line will say NTP_SERVER=north-america.pool.ntp.org. Where it says north-america it could list a different continent depending on your location.
6. Edit this line by removing the north-america
7. It should now read NTP_SERVER=pool.ntp.org
8. Save the file and exit
Now open open any app requiring GPS and you should get an instant lock, or pretty close to instant.
hmm my issues seems sorta wiered too -.-
http://g.co/maps/apn3k
tracks seem always loosing lock and so does navigation and other tools
Hi,
Has anyone managed to install Copilot 8 on the SG2? I have the program and the maps but when I install the app it can't find the maps and asks me to download them.
I suspect that this is an error on my part and I'm not installing the maps in the correct location on the device. I tried it on someone elses Sony Mini Pro and it found the maps no problem so it's not the saftware at fault.
The phone says it has 3GB of space in the location I've tried and the files are just over 2GB so the space shouldn't be an issue but I've tried it several times in different folders etc but getting frustrated now!
My maps re on sdcard - internal in one folder named copilot
But why not download again??
good luck
Try CoPilot /support / forum .
I have CP Premium and that requires a clean install from the market and followed by setup log in to your CoPilot account and download maps it will not work any other way .
jje
Every time I downloaded the maps it would complete and then say there was an error with the files.
Kept trying and eventually it worked and the maps are on there and working.
Thanks for your replies.
Keeping SG2 screen awake?
Can anyone using Copilot on their SG2 help?
I have it installed - working fine - even get satellites indoors, when my TomTom struggles!
The problem I have is when I use it in the car, the screen keeps turning off.
Does anyone know what settings to change to keep the SG2 screen on all the time Copilot is running? I have looked at all settings in Copilot and cant find anything that helps.
I am running it in the car whilst charging but I don't have the Samsung vehicle dock kit.
Thanks
JellyW
Try the CoPilot forum if no reply here .

Hi,
Recently my Lumia 900 is not finding it's location when I use apps like Bing Search or Yelp. When using the built in Bing search it finds my search request but when I click on the directions icon it is unable to find my location and gives me a No Location Information error.
The only app that consistently gets my location is Nokia Drive. I'm getting frustrated that many of the apps that use location are not working. I've enabled location sharing for the phone and all the apps to no avail.
Anyone else seeing this? Any suggestions?
TIA!

Mine is doing the same thing. It used to work fine. Over the last several weeks it has been getting worse. I've uninstalled most of the apps that have access to location to see if they were causing some interference with something but nothing is working. Local Scout fails to load anything half the time now, too. Nothing has changed with my phone. Never dropped, never abused, and used to work like a charm.

To be honest I can't tell if Local Scout works well or not. It never has what I want (like an option to search) so I just use better apps like Yapf or Yelp. I do know that it took a while for my location to be correctly determined when I was in NYC this past weekend. Today on a drive from southern Vermont to northern New Hampshire, my Nokia Drive lost GPS a few times. It took 5 or so minutes before it was back on track.
Do you guys also have issues with losing/having an incorrect GPS location while using Maps or Nokia Drive?
Hi Guys,
I have installed CoPilot Navigation on my gs3 and it takes up a BIG chunk of space.
I have searched and found many users have successfully moved their maps to their External SD Card.
For the likes of me, I cannot do it so that CoPilot runs!
I have tried so many ways....
Here's a link to where I have found some info that says it is possible, one just 3 days ago!
http://forum.copilotlive.com/copilotlive/topics/is_it_possible_to_save_maps_onto_sd_card
Any Guru able to figure this out ?
I, and many others would certainly appreciate it!
Mahalo, and Aloha!
Solved - with no input, but sheer determination.
Well, since nobody uses CoPilot Live, or could figure this out, I tried relentlessly to make it work. The final result is that it DOES work with the Maps (all 5 gb of it) is now residing on the 64gb external SDCard and the program executes from the main phone memory. I had to edit the user.cfg file more than 50 times in order to get it to work, and maybe I can get the footprint smaller on the phone's memory, but I'm satisfied at this point since I have almost 11.9gb usable in the phone memory now, as compared to a little over 6gb! ALK Technologies (the developers) said it would not work......... But it does.
I use CoPilot Live because it works without having a Data connection as opposed to the stock navigation app. I sometimes travel on roads in the boonies and without a data connection, I might end up never able to find a way out! I have the ENTIRE North America, Alaska, Hawaii and individual states downloaded and that is all anyone in North America would probably need. I already, more than once, have been without a GPS after "Data Connection Lost" occurred... Not anymore!
If anyone is going to use the CoPilot Live app, here is what you need to edit in the user.cfg file:

Hello bobolinko,
Can you help me please?
I followed your directions but still CoPilot thinks it is downloaded to the internal memory.
I have forced closed the app and cleared cache files but still the same.
Any tips?
