[Q] Rooting question - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a rooted kindle fire on 6.3.1
I'm just curious, under reset options in TWRP is it possible to erase the stock amazon software or does that always stay on the kindle?
I was trying to unroot and did a reset. Now I just get stuck at the kindle fire screen. I assume I'm stuck in fast boot mode. My computer won't allow me access to the kindle for the f drive, kindle fire utility will say the kindle is online but won't recognize what mode it's in.
Sorry if this topic is repeated. I am kind of a noob.
Thanks for any help,
Eric

Issue the following fastboot command:
fastboot devices
If you get a response with your kf number, then you are in fastboot mode.

do I type in "fastboot devices" while in c:\kfu ?
I tried adb devices but the returned list is blank.

You do it at the directory where fastboot located. Check the tools sub-directory as part of kfu utility.

I get nothing in return after issuing command

If I type in "fastboot device" it gives me a screen with lots of command options

3/ type the following. Fast boot -i 0x1949 one idme boot mode 4000
4/ press enter (it should say waiting for device)
5/ then switch on kindle
6/ fast boot -i 0x1949 reboot(this should reboot your kindle(if not then your not getting fast boot.
Let me know what happens
Edit.. it should be OEM after 0x1949 not "one"

Windows is not detecting your Kindle Fire properly. The "fastboot devices" should return some alphanumeric characters if the drivers have properly loaded and your device is really in fastboot mode. You need to make sure the right drivers are loading or fastboot commands are useless.
Read this thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552547
Pay particular attention to the second post because you NEED to get your drivers working right first. Then the correct fastboot command is...
Code:
fastboot oem idme bootmode 4000
You don't need the "-i 0x1949" if you have the FIREFIREFIRE bootloader and "bootmode" is one word.

It says it finished but i am in the same state as i was to begin with
GOT it working. Ignore all posts. Thanks to Everyone!!!!
Did you get the latest FireFireFire as well? ClockworkMid recovery requires a fastboot such as firefirefire.
Try the kindle fire unbrick utility first before anything.
Here, try this.
1. Power on the kindle.
2. While the kindle fire logo and the android logo are on the screen, Try to boot into recovery by holding three power button until the screen goes black. Then, let go. Let it sit for about two-ten seconds, and it should boot into cwm recovery.
3. Select "factory reset/ wipe data option, and after its done, reboot your kindle and it should work properly.
If that failed, try a hard reset.
1. Power off the kindle.
2. Hold there power button for a Full 20 seconds, even when it turns black.
3. After step two is applied, power on the kindle.

Got stuck in the Kindle Fire boot screen

My kindle fire runs on Rooted Kindle Fire stock ROM downloaded from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1569298.
Yesterday I tried to install twrp using KFU0.9.6 and it says the MD5 check sum failed deleting the files.
Then it worked fine. After that i turn it off my Kindle fire. And I turn it on after some time. From that moment it got stuck in Kindle Fire boot screen.
Then I tried to connect my device to PC and launched KFU0.9.6 and it is saying my Device is offline
Could someone help me to resolve this issue???
Hard boot then boot into recovery.....then flash your stock ROM backup. You made a backup, right?

Im having the same problem... How can i boot into recovery mode if the Kindle Fire utility isnt detecting the device unless its literally on?
try this
Hi
I had the same problem... Try this:
Download the 'Kindle Fire Utility' unzip it and run install_drivers.bat
Plugin the kindle and make sure nothing is unrecognized in the Device Manager
Open a command prompt and enter the following two lines
fastboot -i 0x1949 oem idme bootmode 4000
fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot
(If fastboot cannot be found switch to the "kindle fire Utility" folder into the Tools directory)
Afterwards you can run the utility and install the latest "TWRP Recovery" and "FireFireFire". I've been stuck there in the installation: Don't plug-out your kindle, just reboot it a few times (keep the power-button pressed for at least 10sec)
Hope this helpes

Kindle Fire HD 8.9 Looped:

After trying wallpaper fix I am looped at screen that gives you a choice of factory defaults or reboot
Shows a shows a robot with a red triangle on it.
Would I be able to fix this with a factory cable?
No, you don't need a factory cable since you are on a 8.9”. Simply open a command prompt and CD into a directory with a copy of fastboot, and run this command, "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product", after it says waiting for device plug your kindle in with the power off. It should go into fastboot, if it doesn't then you need to install the drivers for fastboot that are in my signature.

[Q] Stuck in fastboot mode

Hi, I successfully rooted my KF HD 8.9 with instructions found here
http://androidroot.org/watch_video.php?v=A7HRK4M23YG7
But am now stuck in fastboot mode (displayed on screen). I did have twrp installed and got the blue logo, but not anymore.
I tried KF First Aid, under the option “Display Fastboot Status” I get
“product JEM-PVT-Prod-04
6498000040002FFF fastboot
If you see output above it looks like fastboot is enabled”
Device Manager shows under “Kindle Fire > Android ADB Interface”
Have I bricked my Kindle?
Any help greatly appreciated
Its not bricked, though I would attempt to restore the system partition with kffa since 2nd bootloader is gone. You should be in fastboot mode so that's good at least.

Thanks for advice, unfortunately I'm not clever enough to do that without step by step instructions, could you help me?
Thank you

Download Kindle Fire First Aid, find the option about restoring, and if it asks something about is it in fastboot already say yes(or if it asks to put it in fastboot mode say no as it should be already).
tried that exactly as you said, everything seemed to go ok, but when it rebooted it sticks on the kindlefire (orange) logo
Try using SRT instead. Ignore the adb command it lists, that's only for if you have a working kindle that can boot up fully, just stick it in fastboot again and use this utility and see if you have any luck.

Hi, I've tried about 10 times to download KFHD_SRT_v2.0.zip which seems to be for my device, but it fails every time
with message ' the source file cannot be read'. I have downloaded KFHD_SRTv1.3.5.zip, which appears to be for the 7" kindle.
Can I use this, or will the imgs be wrong? There are 4 in the images folder, boot.img, recovery.img, system.img, and systym2.img
The 7" version is not for the 8.9 version, you would probably brick it even worse using that... The ones on that link I sent you are the compatible ones.
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire HD using Tapatalk
that is the one I'm having trouble with, KFHD_SRT_v2.1.zip. While in Kindle Fire First Aid I checked adb and got the message 'adb drivers not installed' so removed and re-installed adb drivers from Amazon, but I still get same message.
Since removing and re-installing drivers my device in device manager now only shows as 'Kindle fire > Fastboot Mode | HD 8.9. It used to say 'ADB Interface'

Fastboot cable not working!

I soft bricked my kindle fire hd 8.9 a while back (at least i think its soft bricked not hard bricked) currently when booting up it boots normally and then stops boots into recovery with a message saying there was a problem while booting a remember the way i bricked it in the first place was trying to edit the system framework.
I decided the only way to fix it was to get into fastboot and iv tried every method i could find to get it there but finally resorted to a factory cable.
the cable finally got here and when i plugged it in the kindle did its usual boot into system then recovery @ boot failure.
does anyone have any advice it would be highly appreciated.
Fastboot cable doesn't work for the 8.9" fire HD. Only the 7"

That has got to be the single most retarded thing i'v ever heard who makes two tablets of the same family and generation and only puts fastboot on one of them that doesn't even make sense though it does explain a lot of the problems i had

This is how to get into fastboot on kindle fire HD 8.9". The fastboot cable can cause damage to the 8.9". Just use these commands to get into fastboot and you can fix your kindle from there.
With the Kindle powered down, type the following command into a cmd/terminal window on your PC (should return with: < waiting for device> ):
fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
Then connect USB to the Kindle and reboot. It *SHOULD* show a Fastboot screen and your terminal window should show something like:
product: Jem-PVT-Prod-04
Type this to reboot out of fastboot mode:
fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot

My Cmd gives an error saying that it is an invalid command
You have to install the drivers for fastboot and adb. And in some cases the android SDK. I don't think you need it in this case though. Ill try to provide try drivers.

OP, were you able to resolve your problem? I have a similar issue, but my 8.9 Kindle registers and unregisters from the device manager upon boot.
I have also not had any success with a fastboot cable.

This does not work.
Here's what I did to restore a Demo 8.9 in Windows 10, it should work for you as well.
Use the KFHD System.img Recovery Tool
Download KFHD_SRTv2.1- 8.1.4 from the link on that page. Unzip it.
Download the boot and recovery images linked in the Downgrade section of that page. Place them in the KFHD_SRTv2.1- 8.1.4 folder.
Connect your 8.9 to your computer with a regular USB cable, turn the 8.9 off.
Run SR Tool.bat, Type 1 and press Enter. Type n and press enter.
Hold down the volume up button and press power on your 8.9. for about 3 seconds and then release the power button and continue holding down the volume up button.
Your 8.9 should display the yellow Fastboot graphic and KFHD will verify that you are in Fastboot.
After that I flash the system with Option 2.
Erase cache and user data with Option 4.
Open a separate cmd window in the KFHD_SRTv2.1- 8.1.4 directory, flash the boot and then flash recovery using the commands listed in the Downgrade section of the KFHD page.
Close this cmd window.
Go back to the KFHD window and select option 6, wait for your 8.9 to fully reboot and then enable adb and allow applications from unknown sources.
Return to the KFHD window and press any key to continue, it will install Google framework and then you are done.
Then do whatever you want, install a custom ROM, update to 8.5.1, sell it or throw it in a drawer and forget about it.
