Hello,
I'm use to the battery life of the KF on CM7-based ROMs. The KF can be in standby mode for a week or three.
I love the speed and features of the CM9-based ROMs but it seems like the battery only lasts 3-4 days in standby mode.
I don't use my KF daily, so it's nice to know if I pick it up in a week to check email, there's still some juice left.
What do you suggest in terms of the most battery-friendly CM9 ROM?

All of them pretty much have the same battery life.

I use the CM9-based Energy ROM and I've found it to be very good. However, battery life poor. Is there a way to improve battery life? Please don't leave trivial things like "Turn off WiFi", "Turn backlight down", ect. I've also tried Juice Defender and I've found it to do nothing.

Well that's pretty much the only thing you can do besides ditching ICS. You could try underclocking and using the conservative governor but that will give you terrible performance.

For what it's worth, I did an experiment. I am running GlazedICS with addins. starting at 100%, the battery drained to 94% just using the internet in an hour. I performed a backup and then restored to my rooted kindle ROM. Starting at 91%, I used the internet for an hour, and the battery drained to 86%. So, while there was more battery on ics, it was negligible. I never tried this on my kindle just reading and prior to rooting. But then I would never use a stock kindle the way I now use it. Some ROMs do drain faster, but the current batch is fine, at least I proved it to myself!
So right now I'm on AOKP, and this and every ICS rom I've had bad battery life, I have only gotten 2 hours of screen on time, maybe 2 hours 20 min. I came from Juggernaut when I would easily get 3.5 hours of screen on time, and I even find myself charging my phone a lot more often. So just wondering which rom/kernel has given you guys the best battery life

On GB: Juggernaut/Synergy
On ICS so far: Telus stock v4.0.3/stock kernel
Darkside Telus 4.0.3 build has fantastic battery life for me. I get about 2% battery drain per hour (when the phone is sitting idle) and on a typical day I will still have more than 50 - 60% battery left when I go to bed. That's after the phone has been on for 15 or 16hrs with moderate use.
If I use the phone more heavily I can get over 3 hours of screen on time.
If we're talking ICS rom's, I'd say 'CM9 20120620 Unofficial' gave me great battery life. I used it for almost a week. I had BLN disabled and was very impressed with the battery life. I could make it an entire day with mod/heavy use. I've run several ICS rom's, and by far it beats them all hands down. It might not be on par with our GB rom's yet....but it's getting close. They've now removed BLN support from the kernel because of the battery drain. But I found just disabling it was enough for me.
I'm getting ready to flash nightly 6/27 with bln disabled. I'll see what kind of improvement I get, if any, with it being disabled.

i put on darksideevolution v7 yesterday and after 10 hours i had 65% left. i did about 40 minutes on the phone, texting all day, wifi/data turned off when it wasnt being used (easy to turn on/off with the toggles)
Honestly I haven't had good battery life since I got this phone 2 months ago. I've been tinkering alot, mainly with Darkside and now AOKP with Eugene's kernel on lionheart. My wife's stock t989 gets great battery life, but I can't live in stock. It seems like I can leave my phone unused sometimes, maybe overnight, and the battery life is great (9% used in 10 hours) but as soon as I pick it up, it drops 20%. Must be that big screen. Anyway, I'm trying to get this worked out. I'm getting my preferred rom figured out and then hoping to let the battery settle into it. Always an experiment...
I switched to jellybean (android 4.1) recently. The system is great. However it drains the battery much more than cm7. During a night the battery can reduce from 80 to 60. Is it normal? If not is there solution to extend battery usage?
Unfortunately, that is normal. Turning the fire off can save the battery, but I just charge it everyday. Compared to rooted stock, battery usage increases between 10 and 20 percent for me under normal use.

According to Better battery stats, most of the drain on my Kindle is caused by AudioOut2 wakelock. I failed to resolve the issue and i'm not sure what is causing it. I would like to know if anyone else experienced similar issues.
IMHO, it must be sort of a bug since JB is fairly new and devs need time to resolve all the issues.

Same exact issues here. And I agree that it will (hopefully) get ironed out over time.

I don't seem to seem that terrible of battery life with mine. I'm running twa_priv's cm10 and during the night it might go down about 7-10 percent. I do have Wi-Fi off while in sleep which helps.

That's not normal for a standby... it should be <5% ...not the mention that device does not have to communicate with 2G/3G networks (unlike smartphones), and on my smartphone i get average of about 3days (medium usage, light on wifi) without recharging
It's a bug - some process prevents device to go to sleep (aka. wakelock) which causes drain. I expected at least 2-3 days on a single battery charge, and tbh, recharging it daily is little bit disappointing Something tells me it's a kernel bug since i encountered it on every CM10 rom so far :S

Well coming from an previous ICS build it's a major improvement. Typically the battery life from ICS builds(That I used, Energyrom, AOKP Kindle Edition, GedeRom) would drain 20-30% nightly like the OP said, so coming from there it seems like JB fixed whatever was killing the battery. I can probably go a week with light usage on my kindle before I recharge it. ICS in general drains the battery on any device. I used to get 5 days on my Droid 1 running CM7. With ICS I'll go through 3, though I never want to go back to Gingerbread, hahahaha.

My record for battery on a smartphone is 6 days... using ICS
Anything that drains battery more than 1% in 1.5/2 hours in standby is bad, no matter what OS version...
I also have the impression that on a fully working Jellybean ROM, battery usage is more intense than on a stock ROM. I still prefer the advantages of the new ROM, and also charge daily. Being mobile, I use the XTPower MP-10000 Powerbank, which gives more than enough battery life and charges the kindle while in use to 100% full. This has resolved the issue of battery drainage for me.
Hey everyone. I was just wondering what you people's battery life is like on a samsung galaxy s3 i747 att. My galaxy s3 is rooted, running 4.2.1 rom and the battery is bad. If i just watch like 20 minutes of youtube/ anime, the battery would go down about 5 percent. So i was just wondering is there any tips to save battery? or anything that i can do to extend m battery life. Thank you
The best thing you can do is to not use Max brightness and make sure no rogue apps running in the background. Cut sync times down. Cut down screen off time. Cut off unneccessary things. Like keyboard or device vibrating or making sounds everytime you touch it. Tons of things you can do to extend battery life.
The top thing you can do is buy an extended battery. So battery life won't be an issue for you. I'm rocking 4400mAh Hyperion extended battery. Ever since I got it, nbattery life is not an issue anymore. I even rum with Max brightness all the time and still get battery life with it. Surf the web, watch videos, and play games like crazy and battery still has plenty of juice yet. Check out the accessories thread on batteries. Great info on good batteries and battery life in there.

but the problem with extended battery is that the case is bulgy

Ever since JB upgrade my battery has been ****. I am on AOKP 1/15 right now and am at 30% battery life over 8 hrs with only 25 min screen time. For some reason or another, I am getting high battery drain from Cell Standby. It's not just AOKP but a few roms I have tried...Google Now disabled, sync disabled, auto brightness, etc...I have tried other modems as well...maybe its my phone, but I can barely get through a work day with minimal screen on time.
That drain sounds about right for streaming. On the stock rom here, after the initial OTA battery life was maybe 6 hours at the most. For some odd reason, its gotten better, back on stock ICS I got about 8-10 hours max,18 if I barely used it. Now its giving me a hour of youtube and a hour or so on twitter/web browsing, texting, getting 10-14 hours on a charge,26 hours with minimal use

are there any good roms for battery life?
Since there is no Q&A sub-forum for HD 8.9, posting here.
I am planning to buy Fire HD 8.9 for my parents and was wondering about battery life. How much of an impact do you guys see with CM10 or CM10.1 over stock with regular use?
I have an HP Touchpad with CM10 and battery life is really bad compared to original WebOS, which is okay with me as a power user but my parents might not like charging a tablet twice every day.
Thanks.

i think, with the new kernel, drivers and all from cm, the battery life wont change a lot but it would be better

If I understood it right, with latest CM the battery life will stay around 9-10 hours of web browsing, which is great.
Thanks.

No. Never more than 9 hours here. Usually I read stories with about 10% screen brightness for about 5 hours and 3 hours for web surfing before I see battery low. I renamed phone.apk and phoneprovider.apk as I saw cell standby is listed number 1 in battery usage. Some people say they don't affect battery but I disabled them anyay. The good thing is this one charges faster than ipad.

from my experience, battery life is good on normal use, on par with stock OS(less than 10%/hour on reading/web).
however, horrible battery drain happens on standby, about 0.5%-1% per hour -- the tablet loses 1-2 hours usable time each day when its in idle.
to compare, on stock OS stock settings, its about 3% per day,
and once I disabled most amazon services, the standby power usage is unnoticeable, sometimes I even see a battery increase when wake up....
Thanks. The battery drain on idle is an issue for my Touchpads as well with CM10, never lasts more than 30 hrs with just WiFi on and everything else off, including screen.
Since CM / ROMs are for power users I don't think battery optimization is much of a priority to the devs. My father isn't going to use it more than 2-3 hours in 2-3 days and then it doesn't turn on at all after 3 days even if it was 100% when he put it down, he might get alarmed.
Thanks, I'll stick to the stock if I go with HD 8.9.
