Need to unroot and return to stock. - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Thank you in advance for your assistance here.
I am unsure as to what method I used to root my phone (2 years ago and I know it wasn't a one-step process).
I currently have one of Ragnarok's ROM's from back in the day (End of Days, I think).
In bootloader, this is what I see:
SUPERSONIC EVT2-3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-2.16-0001
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMELC03_ac
RADIO-2.15.00.0808
I am basically wanting to get the phone to a state where I can sell it on ebay and someone can activate it with Sprint.
To do so, is my understanding correct?
1. Download HBOOT 6.17 and flash in Recovery.
2. Download the Radio 2.15.00.11.19 from Calkulin's thread and install via recovery
3. Download unrevoked S-ON zip, Boot into recovery and flash unrevoked S-ON zip.
Is that correct so far?
I am trying step 1 right now. When I flash the zip in recovery, this is what I see:
Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
E: Can't find update script
Installation aborted.
What am I doing wrong? Corrupt file?

I have never used unrevoked, but the revolutionary s-on zip has to be flashed in bootloader after renaming it to pc36img.zip, might want to try that.

I believe that worked like a charm. When the phone rebooted, it brought up the Sprint splash screen and wanted to re-set up the phone.
Is there anything more I need to check to make sure it's in a condition that someone could take it into a Sprint Store and activate it? I don't want to sell it to someone thinking that they will be okay only to have them find out that it's not.
In the bootloader, it now says:
SUPERSONIC EVT2-3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-2.16-0001
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMELC03_16ac
RADIO-2.15-00.07-28

I tried that method and it did reset my phone to factory but I still have su, and Fresh Rom on the phone? How do I get both off my phone?

The PC36IMG.zip file should have been a stock sprint rom without all that [rooting files]. I think you made a mistake somewhere.

Stuck on HTC Boot

Hello, would appreciate a little assistance, thank you.
Flashed the gingerbread keyboard file from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9634029&postcount=10
There after my unit is stuck at the HTC boot screen.
My unit is a Telus unit. S-ON and rooted with ClockWork 2.5.1.2. Can boot to recovery.
Here's the specific HBOOT details in case it's important.
BRAVO PVT3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
TOUCH PANEL-SYNW0101
RADIO-5.11.05.27

I assume I have to flash an RUU and re-root. Can someone point me to the right one for a Telus unit.
Unless of course someone has a set of ADB suggestions to backing out the 2.3 keyboard. And, no I didn't do a backup, yeah, my bad there. The unit is actually a friends that I was working on, so being fresh out of the box, didn't see the need to Nandroid.
Latest Telus FroYo RUU:
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151557_signed.exe
wipe and reflash a custom rom from recovery. i suppose that you can get into recovery. again, wipe everything before reflash.
cheers.

Do you or anyone know if I need a goldcard for a Telus unit?
if you have a custom recovery put a custom rom in your sd card. wipe all, reflash. S-on has got nothing to do with it.

Thanks much. Figured I had nothing to lose so flashed CM nightly to resume.
Guess the gingerbread keyboard is totally incompatible with the stock ROM.

[Q] SU Binary Update dont Sucess

Hello Folks,
i have a problem with my Wildfire (was Branded with T-Mobile DE)
I have downloaded the Update for Superuser and now it always say that my SU Binary is too old. But if i want to update it, it get an error at the point to get the /System write rights.
How do i get it work?
Here are some informations from the Bootloader of my Phone:
BUZZ PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.80.0002
MICROP-0622
TOUCH PANEL-ATMELC03_16ac
RADIO.3.35.20.10
May 13 2010,22:09:43
The currently installed ROM is CM7 Nightly 199
and the CWM Version is 2.5.0.1
And sorry for my bad English, i prefer German
From what I could tell, the S-ON seems to be the problem.
and how do i make it s-off?
cause my h-boot is 0.80.0002 and Alpharev X only works with 1.00.0001
From i know you need to update to official 2.2 with a RUU and then s-off.
Check one of stickies in development for more details.

Hi, can't remember exactly my method but try to explain best I can.
I flashed safe not rooted rom from 3xeno's sticky page. Then I downloaded on PC the ruu. Exe and this is the part o can't remember but I got the rom image from the exe and turned it into a pc49 img then placed on SD root and rebooted into hboot? ( Power + vol down ). It did its magic then I just used revolutionary to s-off and did clean install of cm7 to replace revs su. Hope this makes sense!!! And is of help.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
To update the su, just flash the signed zip from here: http://androidsu.com/superuser/
With a RUU, you must be in Android. (so not fastboot or anything else).
Then, if it works.
You open Revolutionary (you found it on revolutionary.io) in admin mode. And then it's okay

[Q] Trouble rooting (Is your firmware too new, backup CID is missing...)

I have a stock 2.2 HTC Desire:
Bravo PVT4 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-0.93.0001
RADIO-5.11.05.27
And I have trouble rooting it using unrevoked. I've tried dozen times, and every time I either get a "Is your firmware too new", or "Backup CID is missing". Tried using different PCs, did a factory reset, and still dosen't work. Can anyone help me?
Thanks, Ivo
Use Revolutionary method (http://revolutionary.io). Read the info document (link somewhere down the page). Install custom recovery if asked. At the end install zip from info page to root your phone. You will be able to flash custom ROMs afterwards.
Best regards

Good sir, is your brain lacking the function of processing data captured by his eyeballs into useful things? Yes? Well that would explain why you had not noticed that the man is already S-OFF.
What you need to do is go to WWW.alpharev.nl , and download the bravo_stock PB99IMG and rename it to PB99IMG.zip. once you've got that, put it on the root of your memory card (as in not any folders), poweroff and boot into the BOOTLOADER (not fastboot), wait for it to check for files, then when it asks you whether you'd like to update select yes.
You now have a fully S-OFF phone with a patched Alpharev hboot that gives you a lot more.
Now what you need to do is flash recovery, there is a guide for you on my guide, look in the contents post to find it.
After all that you can boot into recovery and flash custom ROMs. Don't forget to backup your current ROM before you flash a new one!! And also before you do flash, do a full wipe from \moubts & storage (format: boot, system, data, cache)
Thanks a lot Bortak, everything is working fine now

[Q] I cant figure out how to get S-OFF.

I ran revolutionary a while ago which gave me access to superuser but when i went to install busy box it failed i looked at the phone in boot mode says s-off, looked thru some guides havent found anything exactly like this?
HTC EVO 4G
SUPERSONIC EVT2-2 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-6.17.0001

Busybox is integrated into most custom ROMs, like Diablo67 states. If you're S-ON, you're going to need to boot into recovery via fastboot, to flash your kernel/ROM simultaneously.
Your device is not S-OFF. It appears to be in the middle of the process to return it to stock. You'll need to flash a stock ROM to it to normalize the HBOOT version, and then you can re-root with Revolutionary.

You don't install a PC36IMG in recovery; it's flashed through the bootloader.
finally figured it out thanks for your help.

What you need to do is google the RUU for the .93 hboot. What I would recommend since I am most familiar [and easiest method] is to search for the radios thread in the dev section > flash the 2.10 hboot. After you flash the hboot, go to the unrevoked site > flash the s-on zip in recovery. Verify in your bootloader that it is s-on > afterwards, track down the 3.70 RUU [appropriate for that bootloader] > name it PC36IMG.zip > flash in bootloader. If you can't find the RUU, let me know; I have it on my dropbox.
Thank you for the reply! One question, if they won't swap it out, will it be difficult to reroot?

No it won't since its the 2.10 bootloader, you just need to run the unrevoked program, after enabling usb debugging, installing the unrevoked drivers. One of the easiest rooting methods. Just DO NOT take any firmware updates after you unroot.
Just flash a stock rooted ROM of latest ota...delete superuser apk make sure you have the sprint bootani and splash screen...as long as they dont get into bootloader menu you are golden....worked for me they didnt have a clue i was rooted...got home put custom bootani and splashscreen back on dl superuser again no harm no foul

Yes you can do that, though I've seen plenty of users do that and the service rep check the bootloader, then have their account flagged because of it.

For unrEVOked, the bootloader version doesn't matter - it's the Baseband version that needs to be supported. Upgrading HBOOT won't make the unrEVOked S-ON zip work.
I recommend flashing the 2.15.00.11.19 Radio from Calk's Radio thread. Then the unrevoked S-ON zip will work, and finally an RUU can be run, or PC36IMG.zip flashed in bootloader for the stock unrooted ROM version of choice.

See, I couldn't remember, so good looking out. And actually that is the best radio to use, just about every other one gives you that error. Thanks for your input.

For the record this worked PERFECTLY! FLAWLESS VICTORY!!
In doing all of that...Sprint said my device was perfectly fine, however they did give me a new battery. I guess I have to deal with it until Aug when I can get an upgrade. That said.....I'm on 2.2 Froyo...what's the easiest way to root back??
