try using fastboot.exe instead of fastboot inside flashtool. are you sure it is rooted? although I'm sure you don't need your phone to be rooted to flash anything.

Hi. I read your posts, but it doesn't make much sense to me. Can you clarify the problem here in one post so I can help.
simply say...flashing the kernel via fastboot or flashtool is not working for me..it says my PLAY is not rooted even though it is rooted. thats the problem. i just cant seem to flash doomkernel.
btw i use jkkyyu enhanced firmware rooted and cwm installed.
You shouldn't need root to flash a kernel. Use the latest flashtool.

It could be driver related. Download usbdeview, unplug your phone and uninstall all drivers related to the phone and plug it in again.

Right, problem is, my PC has finally decided to stop doing what what it's supposed to. More specifically, it doesn't put my phone in fastboot mode anymore.
My question is, how do I root on the latest GB firmware? If I root on when .42 firmware, can I flash the .64 firmware while unticking the kernel option? Is that where root is?
I can usually do stuff without asking questions, but this problem is quite specific and couldn't find an answer Google-ing.

Flash the rootxperia.zip in recovery. Then, uninstall superuser and install a newer version of it from google play/market. Press thanks if I helped.
Note: This can be used on any Gingerbread firmware. Also, root will not carry over if you use flashtool.
Can I flash the .64 firmware then flash that?

Sounds like a USB cable problem, or maybe a USB port problem.
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk 2
It's a USB port problem.
I was using the dsixda kitchen when my computer switched itself off. I tried the same thing and it switched off at exactly the same point. Ever since then my main USB port stopped working (it was working minutes before). I can't get the drivers for fastboot installed on the other USB port.

no regardless you need root which is just a simple click you can't get CWM without it the auto staller will not work if you do not have root because it needs su permission
The only way to get root on the .62 firmware with a locked bootloader is to flash .42 and then flash the .62 firmware .zip file which is buried somewhere in android development. Since you can't flash a custom kernel(which root your rom anyways) you can't get into recovery on .62 as installing recovery requires root.
My bootloader is unlocked.
Sounds like a catch 22 situation.
I'll just stick with what I'm on now and wait for an ICS FTF.

It's not a big enough problem to get everything set up on somebody else's computer.
Does anybody know what the driver is called? Maybe I'm going to the wrong folder when trying to manually update it.
Also, when I uninstall the drivers, I get the S1 Boot (or whatever it's called) thing installed but that changes to something like SEMCflash. Is that supposed to happen? Because I read that you need update the S1 one, which disappears/gets replaced.
Sent from my R800i using XDA
If you root it, then OTA, you keep root. Only problem is you can't OTA with an unlocked bootloader.
Try with a different PC?
The drivers are on the Sony unlock site.
I can't install the drivers because the S1boot thing changes to SEMCflash. I get told that it contains no info about my phone or it can't find a better match.

For some custom roms you need to flash kernels via fastboot and for this you need unlocked bootloader.
if bootloader it's locked use Google and search there is official way to unlock but you will lose warranty and drm.

Considering you already have flashtool and your desired kernel follow this :
1) Plug in your phone in fastboot mode [S-Off, hold menu key and plug in to PC]
2) Place you .img on your desktop
3) Open up flashtool, select fastboot mode and select flash kernel and select it from the desktop
4) Once kernel is flashed un plug your device restart it open up CWM and flash desired ROM.
Hopefully i helped you out

If you have fastboot which is available in the apktool kit, you can verify bootloader status by putting your phone in fastboot mode (blue led) then open a shell and type "fastboot.exe getvar secure" without quotes. If it says no then you have unlocked bootloader. You can flash a kernel with flashtool or fastboot.exe. I recommend backing up your TA in flashtool prior to doing anything if you haven't already done so...could save you some trouble in the future.
I've successfully rooted my phone. I tried to install Slimbean Primo U, but I got stuck at the welcome screen with the red text. So I did a full wipe (cache/format), then tried again, but to no luck. So I tried flashing the hellboy kernel, did another full wipe following the steps of this guidline, and it seemed to work, but now I'm stuck on a black boot screen that says "Android" - there's a shining animation across it. I've been here for about 20 minutes already.
Did you use the latest kernel-
boot-HELLBOY-201212251747.img?
What command did you use for flashing it?
The correct command is
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Also, did you mistakenly flash it in Hboot, instead of fastboot?

How would I go about mistakenly flashing it in Hboot?
When I started the bootloader, I went into fastboot option and did it from there. Was that the right process?

Yes,go into bootloader by holding power for 10+seconds until screen goes black, then release power and hold volume down.then bootloader pops up.from there go to fastboot, connect phone to PC and see whether it says fastboot usb.

Whatever the newest Titanium KISS is.
Thanks a lot for your help tonight; thought I was going to lose more sleep than I did.
Yes,that's the sense kernel.I am sensing that your Hboot is upgraded, that's why you will have to downgrade it before flashing any JB ROM.but, try once more and flash CM10 or Paranoid Android and see whether it boots.
But,atleast,we have sorted out that you have no driver problems, you are able to flash kernels and ROMs with full wipes.
And,if you will try to flash a JB ROM,also format everything in the mounts and storage menu in the recovery.sd-ext format will give error, don't worry.but, don't format sdcard.
